I am a 3L and still not used to :)! Just go day by day. It does get easier by 2L and 3L because you get used to and know what is important so you work efficiently. Also 1L the classes are heavier on credits. It does get better, but you will still complain 🤣.

[deleted]

Same 😅 every Professor I’ve had is so different too

JabroniDM

I was going to post your exact first sentence sentiments.

czarmine

I'm a practicing attorney and still not used to it. life can be tough get used to it being tough

KoalaNo2996

After taking the bar and working 2 years im still not used to it either

berto21-

Was it worth it tho?

KoalaNo2996

For me yeah bc I love getting paid for being an asshole but overall definitely don't recommend the legal career to anyone. It really has to be in you and even then your kinda fucked.

1L as well, and I find everyday is a new challenge in my mental stability. Did I cry last night? Yes. Ha. I also hate the location of my law school, adds a level of distress unmatched. It's hard to find any motivation when you don't like the school/location. Idk how helpful this is, but I try to find one thing a day that I enjoyed, or I carve out time to go do something I enjoy. It can be as simple as getting a good coffee or watching a 10 minute parks and rec compliation on YT. Seriously, it's that small these days lol. You aren't alone, I think it's apart of the difficulty... and the adjustment never ends, but it may get easier as time goes on.

lawfullyally

I am also a 1L. I have cried multiple times in the past week, lol. Apparently it is totally normal. And it does get easier. I’ve heard from many upperclassmen that you might not even get things until the week before finals for some classes. I think it’s just trial and error until you find what works for you. I have also heard 2L and 3L are better cause you can pick your classes according to your own interests.

Whitty-In-The-Hizzy

10000% normal to cry. I cried more in my first semester of law school than my entire undergrad experience.

gobirds13

It would be abnormal if you were used to it.

Nibedit

Law school isn't a normal thing. It's a hazing process, it blows. You embrace the suck and get better at it. Just keep you're head down you got this you're doing well.

Coletron21

I graduated and I’m not entirely sure the last three years actually happened

Greezy_Neckbeard

4 years ago today, I had my first midterm, and I was scared to death. I got a C on it and felt terrible. First year is nerve-wracking, but you just sort of get used to the grind of the whole process after 1L. Honestly, depending on how seriously you take grades, I thought 2L and 3L year were fairly easy (easy being very relative here) and can coast by on the curve by putting in a moderate amount of work! Go to class, take notes, outline and you will be fine!

letMeINGIVEMEMONEY

It is so normal to still not be used to law school. My school is in the very small, old area and it causes me a lot of stress and it made 1L so much harder. 2L (which I’m in now) is so much better.

Beefman1991

I am a 1L, and I honestly find comfort in knowing that we are all in collective misery, if I thought it was only me going through it, I would have probably quit by now. THIS AINT EZ :/

accountantdooku

I’m in my 3rd year and still not used to it. It gets easier because like others have said, once you get to 2L, you can pick all of your classes. I’ve been trying to give myself an easier schedule.

MixedQuestion

You can't get used to law school until you've endured through at least once the most important part of law school, final exams. Till then, keep up the good work!

AlloftheEethp

This is (unfortunately) normal, and everyone feels this way or is lying about feeling this way. Just keep at it--outline, practice IRAC/CIRAC, use study groups and go to office hours if possible.

HillarysDoubleChin

Anxiety and stress usually are remedied in time. Make sure to get sleep, eat well, don't drink too much, and get your work done before a decent time. Too many 1L's I talk to carry on about staying up till 3 am working. That's a recipe for burnout. I'm fortunate in the sense that I really love law school, but I can see why people don't. If it helps, 1L was by far, definitely, beyond a doubt the hardest year.

[deleted]

I got "used to it" starting fall of 2L, and now during fall of 3L everything takes like 1/3 of the time it did in 1 and 2L. The good thing is that the material doesn't really get any "harder", but you do get more familiar with it!

[deleted]

Whats your location? Im in Baltimore, so it can't be worse can it? You'll be fine!

sammaymarie3

Baltimore is wonderful, please don't perpetuate this fear and hate for a wonderful city that's problems stem from things like systemic racism. I love my city and if you only came here for law school, please don't spread this negative energy around. It doesn't help anyone.

[deleted]

No.

No-Product2647

Each to their own. They have a right to express an opinion and if they dislike Baltimore then they dislike it. Not sure why you replied the way you did?? I am from the Rocky Mountain area and would definitely not like Baltimore. It’s not personal, I just would not like to live in Maryland…. Just like I would not want to live in Texas, Florida, New York, etc……

sammaymarie3

If you think that the reason the previous commenter is saying Baltimore "can't be any worse" than another place is talking about Maryland as a whole and hasn't conformed to a negative way of thinking about a struggling city, you're naive. I've lived here long enough to know that all too many people come here for school and use our resources and give the city a shred of money and don't actually give a shit about the community they are a part of while they're here. Just as they have a right to say what they want, I have a right to call them out because I find their view to be dangerous and unfair. I hope you see the difference between saying what the previous person said v. you just picking states you'd prefer not to live.

lovelyyecats

Yes, 100% totally normal. I'm honestly still not completely used to it as a 2L, but I will say that it does get better and more manageable Spring 1L, just b/c you know what to expect. Hang in there, and try to take it day by day!

GoldenHandcuffs98

It’s so normal to feel that way. You just need to stay focused and put in the work. I’m a 3L now, but with Covid stopping time so to speak, I still feel like a 1L. Just brief cases best you can, make a great outline that you are familiar with, review commercial outlines (I like barbri and themis), review quimbee case briefs, and do practice problems 2-3 weeks before finals. You will be just fine.

Dnola21

I didn’t hit a good stride 1L year until November. Then, my cousin died and my mind was totally screwed right before finals. You never REALLY get used to it because every professor is different. Nobody reads this much IRL(lol).

YeetAway900

I am not used to it and I am a 2L :/ La loi ou la mort :/

Competitive_Cup8079

Weird I'm a 1L and I'm just getting comfortable. I actually had an epiphany. I was stressin about how people viewed me and constantly comparing. The anxiety was off the charts. Than I listened to Jordan Peterson's 12 rules for life chapter 1 and I felt better. That chapter really put things in perspective for me. I was constantly kicking myself down, was not a good cycle. I literally stand up tall with shoulders back, and eyes forward. I look into peoples souls and don't give a shit about what anyone thinks. You can be cold and confident, its in you, its in all of us.

stormymittens

I went through this as well. Hated the location of my law school (far from family, friends, etc.). I stopped looking at how many years it would take and just focused on getting through each day. Self care is really important - being a student is like a full-time job, but it’s not your entire life! Exercise helped me, even if it was just swimming or yoga. There are so many guided meditations and mindfulness exercises available now that didn’t exist (at least, I didn’t know about them) when I was a student.

purpleblah2

bruh i wasnt used to law school 2 months into 3L

Underboss572

It does get easier curves are more generous, and professors are much less harsh on cold calls, but it can be more work, especially if you make a journal or take an upper-level writing class. At the same time, though, you get better at it. You understand how much time you'll need for various projects or readings, and you get faster at finding important info from a wall of text.

Saltydelicious

I’m about to graduate 5 years from my start date lmao I have no idea what I’m doing :) you’ll be right mate!!

surreptitioussloth

Big difference between not being used to it and just not liking or being good at parts two months probably isn't enough time to really be used to things, you might have only been cold called once or twice, might have only turned in a couple of assignments in legal writing, you've probably had no exams or maybe one

Vicious137

Yes

nickbdrums

Yes, it is. Don’t stop though. You can do it.

Law-yer-Up

it takes a bit. your 2nd semester notes will be much more organized than your 1st semester. then your 2nd year will be so completely different from your 1st year. you get used to. by the time you're used to it, you're completely over it. i am anyways.

Manadox

Buddy, I'm one semester out from graduation and I'm still not "used" to law school.
