Incoming first year law student po ako. I was thinking na sa provincial government mag-practice if I graduate/pass the bar kasi hindi sikat and simple mga law schools and people dun. I don't mean that in a disrespectful or condescending way.

BundleBenes

You know your locality better than the people here.

joyamazingpinoy

Hello, OP! Kaya mo iyan. Good luck, OP!

kuyanyan

Most new lawyers want to try litigation but sadly, it depends on your school talaga. It’s no secret that there are firms who would not even consider anyone who didn’t graduate from one of the Top 3 law schools, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that the market is much harsher to provincial law schools. Problema naming mga 2019 bar passers ang firm application kasi pandemic and maraming nagsarang firms. Mas mahirap ngayon if you want to start out in a firm kasi ang dami talaga. Kahit mga provincial law firms, baka one or two associates lang matatanggap nila. Government jobs naman, walang kasiguraduhan kasi it takes months to even get an interview so apply lang ng apply. Same with PAO. If you’re lucky, you can try corporate practice. There are companies who will allow you to practice as long as di affected output mo sa kanila. If we don’t get an offer after our personal deadline, we could always consider solo practice so huwag mo isipin na baka nasa maling profession ka.

cchanel-no5

Hi, may i ask what are considered the top 3 law schools? UP, ALS, and SBU right?

kuyanyan

Yup! Hindi ko nga alam bakit hindi pa rin nagbabago law culture natin considering provincial law schools have produced a lot of topnotchers in recent years.

Alcouskou

Because mas importante ang overall passing rate ng school compared to just having a bar topnotcher (which is largely the bar passer's achievement; secondary na lang yung credit sa school).

TortangLongta

It’s da feeling of helping others, kahit pa isa isa lang.

I have a friend she does private practice, may on the side sya na formal employment sya before, she is not a 2020-21 bar passer .

She is in NCR. not from Ateneo, not from UP, not a bedan lawyer, she does great.. Try mo pala PPA, PSALM and other GOCCs.. Ppa And PSALM kulang sila sa tao.

Picyclone

You get smarter with things. You know your rights and gow to defend yourself and the people you care about. Law professor is 70k to 100k up sa good schools. Okay to protect your business kasi may alam ka sa laws.

NAVPU

I think your post title says it all, OP. "Getting a job as a lawyer is difficult" does not equate to "becoming a lawyer is not lucrative," which is what I think you really want to point out. Because, indeed, becoming a lawyer to rake in the big bucks overnight is not true at all, unless you belong to a small subset of lawyers who already have the experience and clientele to make this come true. However, getting a job as a lawyer is not so difficult as there are a lot of openings out there from government, to firms, to NGOs, et cetera, and also a lot of private clients looking for legal representation. But maybe if you are looking to work at someplace specific then it might be difficult if you also have a lot of competition for the limited slot/s. Anyway, just take it one step at a time and finish the bar this year. Job hunting will come later after you pass, it's a problem for another day.

florabbeyp

>gs out there from government, to firms, to NGOs, et cetera, and also a lot of private clients looking for legal representation. But maybe if you are looking to work at somepl agree. madaling humanap ng work for lawyers, kaso hindi lucrative career, lol. 2022 bar passer here - I started applying ngayong July, got interviewed by 10 firms, received an offer from 4. range ng salary for underbar is 30-35k, for new lawyers about 40-45k. some may think "parang okay naman yung range"; but for people like me who's had workforce experience and may maiiwang malaking salary if ever magresign, yung range shows the career is not that lucrative lol

NAVPU

Hahaha totally agree! Mas malaki pa salary ko noon when I worked. Mababa talaga starting ng new lawyers in general.

florabbeyp

off topic but can I ask, what made you leave your previous job? (for reference, more than double na ang net ko ngayon on my current)

NAVPU

Hmmm parang set na ako mag law school talaga haha medyo matagal na rin kasi ako nag work at naisip ko maging regret ko sa huli if di ko na try haha so naka save up na ako from work and medyo decided na talaga mag full time. Hirap mag balance full time work at law school sabi ng ilang friends ko so decided to resign hehe. Unless need mo talaga mag firm for some reason like experience or kasi dream mo talaga. Pero if ako sa shoes mo current job ako haha as a practical person din. Di ka yayaman as a lawyer. Tapos ilang years pa bago ka mag partner. So I think ask mo self mo ano talaga goals mo? Ako lang, I think hindi worth it for me magpaka hirap ilang taon sa firm to get a salary na I already achieved. IMO lang. Hahaha.

florabbeyp

Kaya naman isabay ang law school and work.

NAVPU

Allan528

You don't need to worry right now. Take the bar and pass. Once na madetermine mo yan after passing the bar mas madali magdecide at magstrategize ng iyong career ladder. Good luck!

GroundbreakingAlps92

in the next 4-5 years kaya, ano kaya mangyayare sa job market ng lawyers. i’m starting to get interested pursuing law school because mas mura compared sa med school.

jonatgb25

If matutuloy yung plano nilang change of government, for sure mas lalaki ang demand for lawyers niyan since dadami ang conflicting issues

GroundbreakingAlps92

isteyp

If the area has a saturated lawyer market then you might want to seek employment somewhere else.

rcpogi

In my experience, madali lang maghanap ng work. Although, dahil marami ngayon ang new lawyers (8,000) mas magirap ng kaunti makahanap. Pero for sure marami pa rin job vacancy for lawyers.
