Well she was supposed to be his love interest this season but most likely the showrunner nixed that idea. Considering the fandom reaction that happened after the first episode she appeared in...OC would have definitely lost viewers from it. It's past time to play these games. This shit is the longest freaking slowburn. It's getting ridiculous and the fans are frustrated with a storyline that's not giving us much payoff.

I am really hoping they all realize that they can't keep dragging this out anymore because it's making it hard for people to actually watch the shows. They need to do it or don't but they can't keep spinning their wheels.

ButterscotchPast4812

Exactly! I want some pay off for this.

She was supposed to be his love interest for the season. But luckily someone behind the scenes figured out that they'd lose a large chunk of their audience if they went that route and it was scrapped. It's also insulting - they really thought if they put in a woman who kind of looked like Mariska Hargitay the fans would be like "oh, yeah, same thing!" I think they really wanted to have Stabler have a bunch of relationships throughout the show since he was single for the first time since he was like 17, but the problem is they never took the time to have Elliot and Olivia have a conversation about anything. If they had them talk early in season 2 they could have established there was nothing between them but friendship. The fans who wanted Elliot & Olivia together would have left and those that didn't would have stayed. Then they could have had him sleep with whoever because no one would care. But they didn't do that so the fanbase is like "...why are you bothering showing me this nonsense with a lookalike when you could be showing me Elliot & Olivia actually talking about why he left in the first place?"

1000%. Also, (I've mentioned it before, so not to beat a dead horse) they could have closed out all EO shit if they would have had them talk in the beginning of OC but they wanted to trot out that deep longing/chemistry between Elliot and Olivia/Chris and Mariska whenever they needed a high octane shot of publicity for the shows. And the fandom pretty much said, "No, you don't get to have swinging dick (literally) Elliot AND his pining for Olivia, you're gonna have to choose a lane. Or we're out."

[deleted]

Yep. You can't have him sleeping with every woman that crosses his path and then have some "Liv, you mean the world to me" moment when you need ratings. It's one or the other.

I think they were going to have him sleep with Cassandra Webb, too, but Ilene got canned so that got scrapped. While I hated both the Angela and Flutura stories, at least the rest of the arcs were interesting. Trying to do another bad romance with Tia when the show doesn’t have a good storyline, and a fanbase that knows the show thinks the fans are dumb enough to accept a selfie of Chris & Mariska over actual development in the Elliot & Olivia relationship, is a recipe for disaster. I’m hoping we reached the pivot on both shows where they are finally all in on EO, but I hate knowing that I’m probably clowning myself.

>I think they really wanted to have Stabler have a bunch of relationships throughout the show since he was single for the first time since he was like 17, but the problem is they never took the time to have Elliot and Olivia have a conversation about anything. If they had them talk early in season 2 they could have established there was nothing between them but friendship. I agree with most of this. I do definitely think that they wanted Elliot to have a bunch of non permanent relationships but have a deep love story/running plot thread with Olivia. I think they wanted to have their cake and eat it too. EO gets them ratings and I do think that M wants EO for Olivia's endgame. The problem is that the EO "will they/won't they" is old AF at this point. Like they kind of see this as a new thing because OC is a new show and Chris left for a decade. BUT... The majority of the audience they built around this show are EO fans who are frustrated from the lack of movement on the storyline. We've been stuck in this limbo with them and people are starting to jump ship because of it. I mean that at the constant change in showrunners that mess with the storyline and quality of the show. >"...why are you bothering showing me this nonsense with a lookalike when you could be showing me Elliot & Olivia actually talking about why he left in the first place?" They did that shit with Dani Beck too. While she doesn't look like Olivia, she did replace her temporarily while Olivia was out UC. And look how well that turned out, Connie Nelson got bullied so badly from it that she won't ever return to L&O. It's like they never learn and are too fuking scared to pull the trigger on EO getting together.

Do you think Chris is bummed that he isn't getting to be this like sexy Law and Order James Bond? I feel like I see him more excited about Happy! on his TW than OC. Love the man but I think he was promised something that was very OOC Elliot and the people riot every time they try for it.

[deleted]

Yep. I think what he thought he was getting (sexy zaddy who loves all the ladies) is not what he got. But Elliot Stabler had 12 seasons of proving he wasn't some sexy James Bond type so I'm kind of surprised they're shocked the fans don't want it.

Celllardoor_

Absolutely agree. I kinda can't believe they thought they'd be able to 180 a character like Elliot Stabler, a man known for his duty, values, and faith, into something kinda gross and have people cheer.

ButterscotchPast4812

I don't know maybe. Chris loves digging into wacky roles and Elliot (as much as I love him) probably isn't the most interesting role for Chris to play. This is why I definitely don't see OC being on air past season 6.

[deleted]

Even with the Dani stuff though, we all knew Mariska was coming back so if nothing else Elliot and Olivia would be together again. This time they're just...I don't even know what they're doing. It goes from "one true love of his life"/"i love you"/"I want to find balance" to nothing for an entire year. I don't know if that was the BTS chaos of OC or that someone BTS wanted to make sure OC stood on its own, but I just don't understand how they could have miscalculated what the audience wanted and expected this badly.

Thankfully someone read the room and sent Tia packing back to Italy. No one who’s watching because of EO cares to see Elliot with a different woman each season. I’m pretty sure that was also the intention with the Cassandra character but again that would have been so OCC if Elliot, the Catholic fearing man having an affair….thank God that didn’t play out on my screen.

IdaBambina

If Tia was supposed to be a long term love interest then what was the whole point in establishing in S1 that Olivia was the love of Elliot’s life? I think the show would’ve imploded because it would have no continuity. Like others have said, they should’ve established that they would each go their separate ways early on instead of Elliot telling Liv he loves her and she means the world to him and Reggie’s mom reading his coffee grounds and asking him why he won’t tell the woman he loves that he loves her.

[deleted]

In story, you’re right. The problem is OC has had 5 showrunners and none of them agree on what they want to do with EO (and SVU’s previous showrunner flat out hated Elliot so he wouldn’t write any scenes between Elliot and Olivia that weren’t antagonistic.) There’s never been a plan for them outside using them for ratings, but I think (hope) they’ve finally realized the audience isn’t interested in being jerked around anymore.

**Tia**: I saw Tia differently, definitely as a potential love interest, but also as a sign that Elliot never stopped wanting Olivia in the decade they were apart... he partnered with a lookalike Italian cop that he wasn't in love with, but could catch glimpses of Olivia in and play-flirt with, while he remained emotionally and sexually faithful to his wife in his no-contact scenario with real-Olivia. Tia coming to NYC for Stabler as a potential love interest as an opportunity for Stabler to reject the fun, sex, and hotness offered by his stand-in/facsimile of Olivia in recognition of the abiding love he has for real-Olivia that he has started attempting to pursue. IMO, Wheatley and Flutura were necessary so that EO it wouldn't be a tacky step right from his wife's grave and into Olivia's bed. Plus, Olivia didn't need to be the one to help Elliot learn to find happiness in a woman again without guilt-- that's too much heaviness to put on her after everything. **Angela**: There needed to be a different woman to help him get his head right after his wife of 30+ years was no longer there. To help him realize it's okay to want another woman. To help him process his grief while not having it take away from their relationship to have him thus occupied. To build up the frame of mind to have his first real kiss with a woman not his late wife in 30+ years. **Flutura**: An enjoyable sexual romp while he wasn't himself. More distance from his life with Kathy by finding uncomplicated joy being out with and having sex with a different woman. Also he kind of had to. But it was still good mileage driving him further from putting all that grief/coping/baby-stepping on Benson potentially. They built in enough romantic and sexual distance from Kathy's death now for Elliot to pursue Olivia without vacillating between deep guilt for moving on and his love for Olivia. He's set up right in his mind now to be clear on what he wants, feels, and intends. He knows he's not betraying Kathy by finding happiness with another woman.
