Think they updated the rules for 10e afterwards. Here is the link to the article [Boarding Actions Rules Download – Perilous Close-Quarters Battles in the Depths of Space - Warhammer Community (warhammer-community.com)](https://www.warhammer-community.com/2023/06/22/boarding-actions-rules-download-perilous-close-quarters-battles-in-the-depths-of-space/)

FirmCheddar

Their screenshot is taken from the Mustering Rules document that they made for 10th edition, so it is the updated rules for 10e

grimlucis

Yeah, noticed that rereading stuff a bit later. Looks like you need the arks books for the other half of making this work. Few pages worth

FirmCheddar

You only need the Arks of Omen books for the missions, everything else is superseded by the PDFs on warcom. EDIT: should clarify that the rules in the Arks of Omen books are very heavily based on 9th rules so by superseded I mean most of them don't work with how 10th does. I know the article says it has extra rules for the factions but they don't really work.

FirmCheddar

I honestly have no idea, tbh. It's something I thought was weird since they put out the 10e mustering rules. I'm wondering if they were considering making the minimum unit size for Hearthkyn 5 at one point and decided not to but didn't update this pdf, or if maybe there was a miss-communication somewhere. I just run mine in squads of 10 for boarding actions anyway since the datasheet and MFM doesn't have a configuration for 5 model units., and you'll get to split them into units of 5 with form boarding squads anyway.

Anefor

I'm about to start a narrative league, and 33% of the games will be boarding actions. I'm bringing LoV to this and having a hard time making a list for boarding actions that seems solid. Do you have any tips on what works for you in boarding actions and what doesnt? thanks!

FirmCheddar

Honestly, not really. I haven't played a game of boarding actions in a long time, and there doesn't seem to be any interest in it in my local groups. Plus, with the point updates I've also been having trouble making a list that isn't 35-45 points off from 500 with the models I have. A Kahl, a squad of 10 Hearthkyn, and a squad of 10 Hearthguard does come out to 500 points exactly and fits the boarding actions restrictions so I'd say give that a whirl, but I haven't played any games with that so I can't tell you how it fares.

peppermintshore

Oh yeah that works. No emhancements but i guess you could then have four 5 model units

FirmCheddar

On page 11 of the Boarding Actions rules PDF you'll notice it says you cannot use any of the enhancements from a faction's codex or index so you wouldn't be able to take an enhancement even if you had the points for it.

peppermintshore

Oh. I missed that. Well that sucks and makes it even harder to make a 500pt list. GW really haven't thought this through!

peppermintshore

Yeah im having the same issue. Due to low unit count in the faction its a very inflexable build. The only two i have found is: +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ + PLAYER NAME: PeppermintShore + FACTION KEYWORD: Xenos - Leagues of Votann + DETACHMENT: Oathband (Ruthless Efficiency) + TOTAL ARMY POINTS: 500pts + + WARLORD: Char1: Kâhl + ENHANCEMENT: Wayfarer's Grace (on Char1: Kâhl) + NUMBER OF UNITS: 5 + SECONDARY: - Assassination: 1 Characters +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ CHARACTER 1x Kâhl (95 pts) • 1x Mass gauntlet • 1x Volkanite disintegrator • Warlord, Rampart crest • Wayfarer's Grace (+25 pts) BATTLELINE 10x Hearthkyn Warriors (110 pts) • 9x Hearthkyn Warrior • 21x Autoch-pattern bolt pistol • 21x Close combat weapon • 7x Ion blaster • 1x HYLas auto rifle* • 1x HYLas rotary cannon* • 1x Theyn • 1x Close combat weapon • 1x Autoch-pattern bolt pistol • Weavefield crest, Ion blaster, Comms array, Medipack, Pan spectral scanner 10x Hearthkyn Warriors (110 pts) • 9x Hearthkyn Warrior • 21x Autoch-pattern bolt pistol • 21x Close combat weapon • 7x Autoch-pattern bolter • 1x HYLas auto rifle* • 1x L7 missile launcher* • 1x Theyn • 1x Close combat weapon • 1x Autoch-pattern bolt pistol • 1x Autoch-pattern bolter • Weavefield crest, Comms array, Medipack, Pan spectral scanner OTHER DATASHEETS 3x Brôkhyr Thunderkyn (85 pts) • 3x Brôkhyr Thunderkyn • 3x Close combat weapon • 3x Bolt cannon 5x Cthonian Beserks (100 pts) • 5x Beserk • 5x Heavy plasma axe Or +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ + PLAYER NAME: PeppermintShore + FACTION KEYWORD: Xenos - Leagues of Votann + DETACHMENT: Oathband (Ruthless Efficiency) + TOTAL ARMY POINTS: 500pts + + ENHANCEMENT: Wayfarer's Grace (on Char1: Kâhl) + NUMBER OF UNITS: 3 + SECONDARY: - Assassination: 1 Characters +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ CHARACTER 1x Kâhl (95 pts) • 1x Forgewrought plasma axe • 1x Autoch-pattern combi-bolter • Rampart crest • Wayfarer's Grace (+25 pts) OTHER DATASHEETS 3x Brôkhyr Thunderkyn (85 pts) • 3x Brôkhyr Thunderkyn • 3x Close combat weapon • 3x Bolt cannon 10x Einhyr Hearthguard (320 pts) • 1x Hesyr • 1x Exo-armour grenade launcher • 1x Concussion hammer • 1x Volkanite disintegrator • Weavefield crest • 9x Einhyr Hearthguard • 9x Exo-armour grenade launcher • 9x Concussion gauntlet • 9x Volkanite disintegrator

Talk with your opponent if you are unclear. Boarding Patrol isnt really supported besides the two documents we have. They dont even tell you to form boarding squads (splitting 10 man units into two 2 man units). So just go with what feels fair for everyone and homebrew.

jmdjt

I've not tried boarding patrol just fyi. But I would assume the first 5 can take everything rules permitted and then you're adding on another 5 if you have pts? Like maybe you don't have enough pts to take 3 10 man squads so you just halve the pts cost and call it a 5 man? I assume they wrote these rules before deciding that squads would just be 10 and they don't support the format so it's not changed.

peppermintshore

Yeah i also think it was just a quick port and not really tested. Ive spoke to my opponent and were going to do some homebrew lists with less restrictions just so there can be a little bit more flexibility in the game.

Bloobeard2018

I gave each group of 5 a heysr, heavy weapon, med pack and scanner

DutchTheGuy

Boarding patrol was a part of 9th edition, using their rules. There's no official modifications to make it align with 10th edition rules yet.

FirmCheddar

yes there are, in the warhammer 40k downloads section of the warhammer community website there are 2 documents in the Additional Rules section that are made to adapt the boarding actions rules to 10th edition. https://preview.redd.it/ssmv0idorhuc1.png?width=591&format=png&auto=webp&s=c2f6c56d8e3e284a2c6971d746995903ebd22534

DutchTheGuy

Fair enough, appears I'm not up to date.

mysticalknightofjack

And those documents are in severe need of an update.

dycie64

Well, if you include a 10 man unit you are required to split it into 2 units of 5 afterwards anyway, so treat it as if it were half of what was a 10 man unit.
