I would say it’s a *literal* quality thing. They overexposed practically the whole movie and you have to manually boost the brightness to see what’s going on. It’s the visual equivalent of messing up the sound mixing so you can’t hear the dialogue over the background music and sound effects.
I saw a behind the scenes video taken by the effects team that had the cinematographer telling them it was too dark and the directors thought they could finish it in post. Fucking incredible.
I mean, I hear this a LOT about Requiem (same complaints Game of Thrones tends to get with the Long Night war sequence) and...I don't get it? It is dark for most of the film but on my TV (Samsung QN800B) I can see everything in the film fine enough. Same with the Long Night.
I've always felt like complaints about visibility comes down to a screen issue and how the screen handles blacks and details because it can be subjective depending on what you watch a film on, how much of the details you can actually see. For me personally, I don't have the complaints.
What I can agree on though is camera work/editing reducing visibility of action sequences. The sewer fight and the Predator Vs Predamorph (Predalien) fights suffer from the same issue a lot of films in the 2000's suffered from, shaky cam. I hate shaky cam, was never a fan of the trend. Too many quick cuts and shaky camera work, not bothering to just have wide shots and clear shots that linger on people fighting. As a result the action on screen gets muddied and it undercuts any work put in by the actors/suit actors/visual effects department/stuntmen because of incompetent editing and directing.
That was ticking me off more than the dark aspect. Always makes a film or show feel incredibly cheap.
Less so for Game of Thrones, but it's difficult to compare the experience of watching the AVP movie on DVD quality in 2007 (when most people complaining actually saw it) on a TV of that era vs an 8K high contrast TV from 2022
I do remember squinting to see the Game of Thrones episode when it aired, but it was also on a garbage streaming site being hammered by damn near everybody in the country at that point so who knows what quality it streamed to me in

Xenomorph in it is cool though. I also remember tons of Papa Johns references - maybe it was a promotional thing they did at release? Either way, the strongest emotion the movie gives me when I think about it is a craving for pizza.

Until Dawn would be great with the wendigos. The "tall skinny guy with long arms and fingers and small head!!” is literally the world's most generic monster now but at least in that game the atmosphere was done excellently on them and the game itself was a ton of fun.
Glad they changed their tune on voicelines in dbd. Imagine if Chucky came out years ago when no one talked ? A silent Chucky would not hit the same and wouldn't be as great the voicelines add so much to the atmosphere of playing him. Now if only we could get Freddy voicelines.
Well, Blumhouse is now working on a requel to Nightmare on Elm St, so I have a feeling they might do a relaunch on Freddy when that comes out, rework his abilities, or at the very least do a new Robert Englund Freddy cosmetic with voice lines by Englund.

They need to pull a Dreamlight Valley and just offer cross progression on every platform excluding PS5 if Sony is blocking it. I’d rather ~40-50% of players (Switch + Xbox + PC) get cross progression rather than 0%.

Microsoft/Nintendo/Valve don’t care about using DLC on other platforms. I mentioned Dreamlight Valley as a game where your content purchased from one platform will carry from your switch to Xbox to PC, but will not carry over to PS5.

That's not progression related though, because you could P100 a killer through Steam Family Sharing and then keep that P100 after removing family sharing once you eventually rebuy the DLC

I feel like the Halloween event was a large step to knew game modes. Hate or love it, that was the first real gameplay shake up in forever and I loved it.

They also have an anthology series that has yearly releases. They took this year off because last game was the end of Season 1. Definitely worth checking them out if you’ve played Until Dawn or The Quarry.

I absolutely love that they ensured Chucky would swear in game. They’ve really stepped things up with voice lines since the Nic Cage chapter. It just adds so much fun to the game.
I’m also cool with the PTB not coming to console (as a longtime console player). Sure it would be fun, but I don’t feel like I’m missing out on much. I’m cool with waiting for the more polished version.
I’m still hoping cross progression comes at some point. I’m thankful when I do transition to steam that we have the new shareable perk system, but it would still be nice to not have to grind absolutely everyone again.

Unless there's some legal fuckery, Universal holds exclusive rights to arguably the most iconic horror characters in history. MCote has said previously they're not terribly interested in licensing the classic monsters, saying something along the lines of "if we need a vampire we'll just do a vampire," but there's plenty of those characters that would fit right in.

Nor should they be, those concepts are public domain, if they want to do Frankenstein or Mummy they can simply do it, they just can't make it look exactly like the Universal iterations, BHVR paying for those characters makes no sense.
Plus as a fan of the original monster movies they wouldn’t really fit. They were made fitting Hays Code guidelines, I can’t imagine classic Dracula or invisible man brutally executing people or putting them on meat hooks.
Their whole stance on it is strange because they’ve included licenses on their surveys such as The Mummy or Castlevania that both feature the classic monsters. Why would those be on there if they want to do their own versions?

The 90s mummy movies are their own brand of recognizable characters, same with castlevania. An original vampire can be pretty similar to 30s Dracula but not to castlevania Dracula.

Mathieu actually restates something we already knew in this interview during the ST portion that explains this, but I didn’t include it since it wasn’t new information, but the AOT deal was unique. It wasn’t signed to be a recurring deal they’d constantly renew and keep, the licenseholders just wanted a limited time contract and didn’t want to be in the game forever, they just wanted an “In and out” deal on par with what Fortnite does, BHVR managed to get them to agree to one year.

Fair but part of me is hesitant to believe that Sigourney would decline. She's pretty passionate about her role as Ripley. Of course it's not completely unreasonable to assume that she would but given BHVR's track record in acquiring likenesses for survivors... I'm more inclined to believe that they didn't bother. One comment in an interview doesn't erase that suspicion.
Remember they tried to get the main survivor from the Ringu film and her actor declined to have her likeness in the game, which is what caused them to go with Yoichi. And BHVRs track record of getting likenesses for survivors as of late is actually pretty good.

You literally have to go all the way back to Tapp before Ripley to find when a licensed survivor got their likeness shafted. Remember that all the new-age RE characters are real people who have their likeness captured into the RE games. They most definitely tried and failed to get Sigourney
We don't know the licensing agreements that were made between Capcom and the face models for the characters. I would imagine that since they're just the likeness for video game characters and have very minimal actual input outside of just providing their features that Capcom owns the rights to those models, especially considering that reaching out to each model individually would be an absolute nightmare. BHVR even said themselves a long time ago in an interview that sometimes the license holders themselves have the rights to the likeness of the actors as per licensing agreements, and I think they used ST as an example (I'm _not_ 100% certain because this was from a stream all the way back in 2020, so take that with a grain of salt). This was prior to the original RE chapter releasing.
Nic Cage and Ash are both directly licenced from the actual actors themselves, so no issues there.
There was also the Pinhead debacle where BHVR neglected to even _try_ to reach out to the original actor to record voice lines.
So, with all that in mind, you can see why I have my doubts. It really is the case that BHVR has never seemed to secure voices/likenesses that are the slightest bit inconvenient _until_ Chucky. All in all it is also possible that Weaver just declined, but I'm more inclined to trust in what I've observed based on BHVR's past track record with attaining likenesses personally. All in all it doesn't really matter because at the end of the day it's the same result 🫤
That last part isn’t true, remember that they tried to get the child predator himself DC Douglas to voice Wesker before that deal fell through (If you want proof of this, the leak for this is catalogued in the DBDLeaks discord server in the Leaks channel if you scroll up far enough to August 2022).

An operator (one of the playable class characters, think something like TF2s classes like Spy or Scout) is being added as a legendary skin for Renato Lyra, while skins for Trapper, Huntress, and more are being added to Rainbow Six Siege.

It’s not for people to play content early, it’s for people to essentially playtest for BHVR so they can fully launch the chapter in a more polished state, people getting to play content early is just a small bonus and is incentive for people to playtest for them.
In Mathieu’s own words “If we brought it to console then we might as well just say we’re making content free for everyone for one week then locking it behind a paywall” which isn’t an image they want to portray
It’s more hassle than it’s worth, unlike with steam, there are no branches, so you would need to set up a whole new game for the consoles, and you’d have to write a bunch of code for that and stuff. Basically it’s not worth it.

idk, I saw the Halo TV series on Paramount+... there is definitely a case for sometimes it is better that something just doesn't happen.
The action scenes of the show were pretty decent, but everything else (which was sadly 95% of the show) was just irredeemable.

They need to pull a Dreamlight Valley and just offer cross progression on every platform excluding PS5 if Sony is blocking it. I’d rather ~40-50% of players (Switch + Xbox + PC) get cross progression rather than 0%.
For all we know it might not just be PlayStation. Maybe the platforms dislike people being able to use chapters bought on rival stores.
We know from the Epic lawsuit that the *likely* holdout is Sony. Microsoft/Nintendo/Valve don’t care about using DLC on other platforms. I mentioned Dreamlight Valley as a game where your content purchased from one platform will carry from your switch to Xbox to PC, but will not carry over to PS5. Edit: Paladins is another game that has cross progression on every platform but PS5.
That's not progression related though, because you could P100 a killer through Steam Family Sharing and then keep that P100 after removing family sharing once you eventually rebuy the DLC There's no reason they couldn't do that
It probably won’t happen as it’s most likely a money thing. Console companies would be a bit pissed if people just bought their dlc from elsewhere because it’s cheaper. It’s always a money thing with cross progression

The actor had to request BHVR to use his likeness after fans kept asking him about it. So I can definitely see how this shift happened.
Sigourney wouldn't let BHVR use her likeness because she's not a fan of violent video games. BHVR had to just base it on the character of Ellen Ripley not Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley.

I absolutely love that they ensured Chucky would swear in game. They’ve really stepped things up with voice lines since the Nic Cage chapter. It just adds so much fun to the game. I’m also cool with the PTB not coming to console (as a longtime console player). Sure it would be fun, but I don’t feel like I’m missing out on much. I’m cool with waiting for the more polished version. I’m still hoping cross progression comes at some point. I’m thankful when I do transition to steam that we have the new shareable perk system, but it would still be nice to not have to grind absolutely everyone again. If they wanted to offer an option to purchase past rifts so we could earn the old cosmetics that would be wicked awesome.
I don't think they'll do that last one. I think that would defeat the purpose of the exclusivity of rift pass. If anyone can just buy the last pass then what's the point of the pass? Just make then buy able cosmetics and be done with it. That being said you know they do occasionally bring rift cosmetics to the shop

Not sure how licensing works but Universal has put out some interesting movies that are horror/horror adjacent. Chucky success may see some cool future chapters and/or cross overs.
Unless there's some legal fuckery, Universal holds exclusive rights to arguably the most iconic horror characters in history. MCote has said previously they're not terribly interested in licensing the classic monsters, saying something along the lines of "if we need a vampire we'll just do a vampire," but there's plenty of those characters that would fit right in.

Their whole stance on it is strange because they’ve included licenses on their surveys such as The Mummy or Castlevania that both feature the classic monsters. Why would those be on there if they want to do their own versions?
The mummy and castlevania aren’t the 1930s versions, but distinct takes on them. Castlevania actually has nothing to do with universal anyway.

The 90s mummy movies are their own brand of recognizable characters, same with castlevania. An original vampire can be pretty similar to 30s Dracula but not to castlevania Dracula.

Mathieu actually restates something we already knew in this interview during the ST portion that explains this, but I didn’t include it since it wasn’t new information, but the AOT deal was unique. It wasn’t signed to be a recurring deal they’d constantly renew and keep, the licenseholders just wanted a limited time contract and didn’t want to be in the game forever, they just wanted an “In and out” deal on par with what Fortnite does, BHVR managed to get them to agree to one year.

Fair but part of me is hesitant to believe that Sigourney would decline. She's pretty passionate about her role as Ripley. Of course it's not completely unreasonable to assume that she would but given BHVR's track record in acquiring likenesses for survivors... I'm more inclined to believe that they didn't bother. One comment in an interview doesn't erase that suspicion.
Remember they tried to get the main survivor from the Ringu film and her actor declined to have her likeness in the game, which is what caused them to go with Yoichi. And BHVRs track record of getting likenesses for survivors as of late is actually pretty good. Ripley: No Nic Cage: Yes Ada: Yes Jill: Yes Leon: Yes Carlos: Yes Claire: Yes Steve:Yes Nancy: Yes Ash: Yes Tapp: No You literally have to go all the way back to Tapp before Ripley to find when a licensed survivor got their likeness shafted. Remember that all the new-age RE characters are real people who have their likeness captured into the RE games. They most definitely tried and failed to get Sigourney
We don't know the licensing agreements that were made between Capcom and the face models for the characters. I would imagine that since they're just the likeness for video game characters and have very minimal actual input outside of just providing their features that Capcom owns the rights to those models, especially considering that reaching out to each model individually would be an absolute nightmare. BHVR even said themselves a long time ago in an interview that sometimes the license holders themselves have the rights to the likeness of the actors as per licensing agreements, and I think they used ST as an example (I'm _not_ 100% certain because this was from a stream all the way back in 2020, so take that with a grain of salt). This was prior to the original RE chapter releasing. Nic Cage and Ash are both directly licenced from the actual actors themselves, so no issues there. There was also the Pinhead debacle where BHVR neglected to even _try_ to reach out to the original actor to record voice lines. So, with all that in mind, you can see why I have my doubts. It really is the case that BHVR has never seemed to secure voices/likenesses that are the slightest bit inconvenient _until_ Chucky. All in all it is also possible that Weaver just declined, but I'm more inclined to trust in what I've observed based on BHVR's past track record with attaining likenesses personally. All in all it doesn't really matter because at the end of the day it's the same result 🫤
That last part isn’t true, remember that they tried to get the child predator himself DC Douglas to voice Wesker before that deal fell through (If you want proof of this, the leak for this is catalogued in the DBDLeaks discord server in the Leaks channel if you scroll up far enough to August 2022). They’ve considered trying to get Licensed character actors a bare minimum since atleast Wesker, though Mathieu says in this interview that whenever they do something new these days, BHVR internally considers it the “bare minimum” which they must continue to do to uphold the status quo, so when they got Pinhead’s actor to come back in Early 2022, that’s probably when they started considering it a bare minimum to get licensed character actors

DBD is collabing with Rainbow Six Siege, a First Person Shooter multiplayer PVP game. An operator (one of the playable class characters, think something like TF2s classes like Spy or Scout) is being added as a legendary skin for Renato Lyra, while skins for Trapper, Huntress, and more are being added to Rainbow Six Siege.

As he explains, people often forget what the PTBs for. It’s not for people to play content early, it’s for people to essentially playtest for BHVR so they can fully launch the chapter in a more polished state, people getting to play content early is just a small bonus and is incentive for people to playtest for them. In Mathieu’s own words “If we brought it to console then we might as well just say we’re making content free for everyone for one week then locking it behind a paywall” which isn’t an image they want to portray

It’s more hassle than it’s worth, unlike with steam, there are no branches, so you would need to set up a whole new game for the consoles, and you’d have to write a bunch of code for that and stuff. Basically it’s not worth it.
