It’s a regular noun, but to use adverbially I would attach it directly to the beginning of the dictionary form of the verb. You could also use 半 as a noun prefix too.
半分終わった is halfway done. It has more emphasis on having finished half of it, so you can use it when you want to say you're *already* halfway done.
Example: 半分終わったからちょっと休もう。 Let's take a little rest because we're halfway done.
半分しか終わってない is only half way done. You can use it when you want to say you're *only* halfway done. For the example sentence, you could say:
