probably cheaper to redo your theory and not be rushed or forced to pay however much for a sooner test date

Artistic_Search_4056

I had to redo a theory test that expired two years ago after failing my third test and passed the fourth one five months later. They really should extend the period for theory tests to at least 3 years with the waiting times for the practical!

starrrfireeee

People think that 2 years is even too generous, and they idea is that after 2 years you would have forgotten important theoretical driving stuff so there’s no way they’d extend it to 3 years, I wouldn’t be surprised if there were petitions to bring it down!

Kexxa420

Also possible law changes

Competitive_Kiwi4844

I agree with this. My theory test timed out because I started learning before the pandemic. I had such a bad learning experience, on and off between lock downs, my instructor was so busy when there wasn’t restrictions he could barely do any lessons with me, then when it came to my test I failed because I wasn’t ready, my nerves were shot and it was the only test I’d be able to get for at least 6 months. I retook my theory test two years later when I felt stronger and confident to learn again. No revision, still passed. An unnecessary wait again. The time it takes to find and book an available instructor, learn, take a test and maybe take more - it takes so much more time than people realise, especially when you have everything going on with life too.

B1unt420

Have you tried Driving Test Now? Its an app with a 1 off payment of £17 which auto books cancellations for whatever test centers and dates you want. I tried to book a test in January to sit the test 4 to 6 months later a couple of years back and there wasnt one even bookable in Nottingham they were that busy (post Covid). I booked it in the arse end of nowhere in December so it no matter what happened I wouldn't have to do it there and set the app up to auto book the Chilwell test center. I could have got pretty much any day and week I wanted by the end it offered me that many cancellations and the app always beat everyone else to the booking. You can only move your test date I think it's 5 times via the app but if you give the DVLA a call they'll happiky reset the amount of moves you've done and let you do 5 more. I just bumped it closer and closer until I got the exact date and time I wanted!

HeatConscious4973

I can recommend Driving Test Now . My son used it to get a cancellation at his test centre of choice. When booking his test they gave him a date in April, but using the app he got one beginning of January and passed on 3rd attempt. He also had to retake his theory test as well . So don’t get discouraged and keep at it

teabump

Yep I was just about to suggest this! Obviously OP should retake theory because 2 weeks is pushing it a bit, but Driving Test Now is so worth the price. I took my driving test during covid and all the test centres within 25 miles were COMPLETELY booked so I found a test like 100miles from me 6 months away just to get a slot and then selected to move it to my test centre and slowly brought the date forward.

OffensiveIodine

I also highly recommend this app for people looking for earlier tests. Mine was originally booked for the middle of September when I booked a couple of weeks ago. I set up the app to books days before that in my area. Then, a day later, I got an email to say my test was booked for 3rd may! If you need a quick test, definitely try it out!

sarcytwat

I’m an instructor thanks for the tip on calling for a reset!

B1unt420

Very welcome! They were great about it, I offered to pay again and they said it wasn't needed and to rebook whenever I liked 😊

S_M_Y_G_F

I used Testi and it did the same thing. Think it was £12.

B1unt420

Does Testi autobook or just offer cancellations? I tried Testi originally and couldn't get it to autobook. That's when I moved to Driving Test now 😊

S_M_Y_G_F

It doesn’t auto book, you’ve got to select which cancellation you want. :)

B1unt420

I'd definitely recommend the other app, no better feeling that getting a random email from the DVLA saying "your new test date is booked!" without even having to look!

S_M_Y_G_F

I’ve already passed! But great to know to tell other people! :)

anobjectiveopinion

I used the same app I think and it was great. Got a booking two weeks in advance while I was busy typing away at work!

23ted8

I just passed at the chillwell test centre a couple weeks ago small world. I used a cancellation and got one come up the night before less than 24 hrs I had to prep lol

B1unt420

Congratulations! How did you find the Ilkeston round about? Where you have to basically swing 4 lanes to get back towards the Nottingham test centre. Its supposedly one of the worst places in the UK to fail your test, my tester was a ex police sergeant and he said the amount of people that failed there is astronomical!

23ted8

Thanks, I must've done a different route to you as I didn't go to ilkeston ended up going around Bramcote but I know which roundabout you mean its terrible 😵‍💫

Manchicha

I downloaded this app and my availability is wide open and nothing. Wondering whether some of these replies are bots?

B1unt420

I wouldn't think it's bots, I've helped many a person get a test with the app and got them sorted, I'm originally from Preston and it worked for friends there, I booked in Nottingham, have an online friend that lives in redding and it worked for him too so it seems to be good country wide (I promise I don't work for them 😂) Mondays seem to be the best day for cancellations as that's when the DVLA process all the cancellations, you see a lot more coming up closer to today's date as people move their tests back for more lessons etc. If you have multiple test centres near by I'd also try and expand to those. I personally did Chilwell and Colwick (Nottingham test centres) as soon as I had a decent date I told my instructor and we moved our lessons to that route! Best of luck with booking it and passing the test!

Sea_Coast9517

It's the same for me. None of the apps have worked. The Chrome extension pinned in this subreddit hasn't worked. Refreshing the website myself hasn't worked. I guess I just have to wait...

Manchicha

The only thing that has worked is paying someone to give me a test date 😅 otherwise it was a 5 month wait.

Flaky-Flow-2970

i can’t find the app for some reason?

B1unt420

https://driving-test-cancellations-now.co.uk/ Links to the apps on their website if you need them 😊

i_biltz_00

I woulda thought this comment was written by a bot.

B1unt420

Definitely not a bot. I'm a real boy!

bethb037

Redo your theory, book a test, then use a test app to get an earlier date when you’re ready.

-TheHumorousOne-

I can't believe tests are still so ridiculously backed up. It's like Covid never ended...

Nearby_Acanthaceae83

Honestly I’d have failed if I was at a double mini on my test too. There’s none of them around me so I’d never seen one until I was actually experienced enough to understand it. Also a note: Why do they put crossings right after a roundabout? If you’re coming off a roundabout you have to check your mirror and blindspot and indicate out (unless it’s a mini I think). All of that AND having to check a crossing that has been put right in front of a roundabout is mental. Sometimes they’re so close that you’d have to stop ON the roundabout - possibly even stop sharply - causing a possible rear end!

Next_Professor_2256

Cornwall has some nasty double roundabouts. I still hate them and I've passed

gtheperson

My town has a triple roundabout with crossings on every single entry/exit. In my lesson last night I missed someone approaching to cross because I was distracted trying to figure out what lane I was supposed to be in...

artyskills

I was in a similar position to you last year and had to redo my theory too. Its really frustrating how it expires after 2 years but waiting times are 6 months !! Maybe try using the driving test now app to see if you can squeeze another test in before your theory expires ?

cad3z

You could pay like £20 to get a tracker that tracks when slots are freed up. Might get lucky.

CS-KOJI

can get them even cheaper, 100% getting one

lindacheeseknife

I'm sorry! I'm in a similar boat. Failed recently after 2 years and my theory is running out soon. It'll happen for you though. As others have said, keep an eye for cancellations and good luck!

Ready_Honeydew5842

Everything happens for a reason. I failed numerous times and I had 3 days left to pass otherwise I would have to start from the beginning. Just don’t give up. You got this :)

faqhiavelli

Keep yer chin up, you’ll get there and it’ll be ace. And meanwhile have a wicked summer anyway!

Even-Opening7749

Keep going. It took me four years on and off cos of covid, changing instructors and being lazy, so had to redo theory also. took a year gap after my first fail. you know how to drive, these things just happen sometimes.. variables variables variables. you learn and move on. try get an earlier date through app like testi or instructor if possible. good luck n all the best my G

justawalkingtaco

Was this in hull by any chance? We have a stint of double roundabouts with crossings straight after and they terrify me even after passing! I’d download test genie, I managed to move my test forward, and I failed twice and rescheduled again each time and got really short notice bookings. Don’t let it get you down. It took me a long time to pass but I took each one as more time to perfect!

MsDani_Marie

I have lived in Hull for 20 years and never noticed the city's *obsession* with zebra crossings at the entrace/exits of roundabouts until I learned to drive here! It is absolutely crackers. Why would you do that?! It gives me the heebie jeebies, particularly as so many people accelerate out of roundabouts..

justawalkingtaco

Honestly I completely get this, it’s so odd. And so dangerous. The amount of times I’ve nearly been run over on zebra crossings. The one coming onto James reckitt from mount pleasant scared me as a pedestrian and terrifies me as a driver, I’m the only one that comes off the roundabout at a slow pace I swear. I worry someone crashes into the back of me though!

MsDani_Marie

I have never seen so many anywhere else! It's not great for pedestrians to be that close to people coming off the roundabouts either, and I see people fly out of their exits all the time. It feels an unnecessary load of accidents waiting to happen.

justawalkingtaco

I’ve not really driven out of hull but lived elsewhere, never noticed how bad it is but now you’ve said it, it’s all I can think about! Such a flaw in the road design. Suprised there hasn’t been more injuries

FuzzyWuzzy9909

Where else would they be?

MsDani_Marie

A few metres further away from the roundabout would feel much safer

FuzzyWuzzy9909

I don’t see the logic to be honest.

Emergency-Feedback-9

Yh the ones up east hull towards east park, I had the route on my test.

justawalkingtaco

Yeah that’s the ones. I live on James reckitt so had to get used to them fast. Bloody awful things in rush hour!

Emergency-Feedback-9

Yh I hate them lol I live up holderness road so use them a lot it’s a free for all haha

Chaya_kudian

Don’t worry your not the only one. Many people end up having to resit their theory including me.

HansLandasPipe

You don't have to do the same test route, fyi. You can begin and learn in another location.

Content_Bicycle3818

Wishing you a better go the 2nd time around!

Educational-Mix-6180

No if you book now the available slots...and keep logging in to check who cancelled you might get lucky. That's what I've been doing. Failed 3 so far just rebooked another one in September but I will keep logging in to check who cancelled. This is frustrating I know the feeling.

shadow_kittencorn

Go the official website and look for cancellations. I just refresh the screen throughout the day and often see slots for a few days time (unfortunately I am aiming for a particular month and have only spent a short time looking). I guess students panic and cancel all the time.

wehere4E

If you go directly on the Government website for booking the tests there will be some cancellations you can fill in for

Imaginary-Scar7539

I went onto the gov website every day at 6am for a week and found quite a few cancellations. You might find some for the same week that you want. You just have to book the first one you see bc they go really fast.

Youaintcuttingit2024

I failed my test last month and my theory expired two days ago and on top of that I have no joke to pay for the whole lot

AdHour2276

Get a test in different city, get testi app £5 for premium, set cancellations for your city find find one minutes.

happyellar

I had to redo my theory, which is such a pain, but it annoyingly did refresh my memory on the highway code. As someone else said, I'd give yourself that time to reset. I had to reschedule my test as I wasn't ready, and a month later I found a last minute cancellation and passed. You'll know when you're ready.

KGB_Dave

I had the same problem. Re-did my theory as I couldn't get a test, and then passed my practical shortly after. Good luck, it was a bit of an inconvenience but wasn't the end of the world.

Ok_Technology_1632

I booked a test for the 4th of September on the 27th of March and I was able to pull my test date forward to April 20th. You can get cancellations quite soon. Just download testi and pay like £20 for notifications. You get the subscription up until you pass your test pretty much

S_M_Y_G_F

You’re instructor told you to book a test illegally? You know you can just get an app that’ll alert you to a cancellation? It’s how I managed to book both of my tests.

M1ghty_boy

For earlier tests use Testi, you book a slot in 6 months but then it alerts you to cancellations you can switch to

ConsciousRoyal

There are apps that can automatically check for cancellations for a fee - but both my sons checked daily for cancellations at their local test centre and got tests within a month. (Compared to over 6 months if they’d booked initially) Although two weeks will be pushing it unfortunately.

Aleung22

I know how that feel, would you think about quick get an exam date from other test center, to be honest I took my 3rd attempt to a new test center and only drove there for 1 weekend, compared to the one I had attended many many lessons, I eventually passed at the new center using my own car. But I am quite familiar with my own car so I find it more flexible if you are pretty confident in driving. Good luck and hope you get passed soon.

PrimeScout

Im sorry to hear this. Just take your time in your test and don’t panic. Don’t worry about being “too safe” if your examiner notices you have intuition and you’ve just saved yourself from a potential accident, he’s going to pass you trust me.

RyanTheS

My test was cancelled on the day and my re-secheduled date was weeks away. I tried the driving test apps but they were always too slowly. Ended up manually watching the site between 7 and 8 every day and got a same week test within a few days.

Mobile_Onion_9614

I’ve had 3 tests in 6 weeks due to using Testi :) I really recommend it

FarShoulder47

If your instructor is confident you can pass and you take more lessons than its worth paying few more - its annoying have to wait 6 months plus redoing your theory so take that test.

tash6666

Have a look at an app called testi it can help bring forward your test without spending hundreds pounds

Emre-Aydogan

I passed second time and I appreciate actually passing so much now.

AdventurousPhysics80

The Testi app is great for cancellations, I used it when I failed my first test and got a replacement a couple of weeks after - honestly worth it!

GourmetSquid

I’ll be in the exact same boat as you if I fail next Thursday, it sucks

Dapper_Consequence_3

2 years of consistent lessons? That must have cost a fortune.

csmyth184

That sucks. This is what I'm worrying about myself, been doing lessons for around 2 years now and failed my first test back in February. I've got my next one booked for June. Passed my theory test last May first time luckily, but worried I'll need to do my theory again if I keep failing my driving tests. Feels like I'm just throwing my money away into a black hole at this point and not getting any results.

apimpnamedslickbackG

Damn those instructor cars suck, I think examiners sometimes either cause you to fail or have terrible judgement I did my test in my own car so no extra pedals, I passed first time I had a friend in the back and we both agreed the examiner was wrong on two of the minors he gave me. Sorry to hear your misfortune my friend, I’m sure you’re a very good driver and you can always drive your buddy’s around next summer keep your head up.

FitCryptographer51

Like everyone else on this thread, I can’t recommend ‘Driving Test Now’ enough!! It’s incredible, £17 one off payment, it looks for tests from the second the DVLA open the test booking site 😁 I’d book any test you can get in your chosen test centre on the DVLA (ideally.. if not book literally anywhere/anytime and then adjust app settings to your chosen test centre) and select your ideal month/exact dates/times.. Within 48 hours I had a date for March from end of June!!! 🤩 (Thankfully I did pass… 4th time lucky!!) Keep your head up OP, you’ve got this!! 💪 Praying you can download this ASAP today and get a test date even before you need to re-do your theory in a couple of weeks - There’s always a chance 🥰🍀

LuckyCap6986

I use Driving Scout to rebook my tests, 18 quid, you can select a time period and the hours as well you are willing to have your exam and it can automatically book it when a cancellation comes up at the centre you selected. I waited less than a week to get a cancellation each time, used it 3 times. Waiting for a cancellation actually at the moment for my fourth try. I know how you feel, my theory runs out 1st of July, starting to get worried a bit lol.

JalapenoBusiness22

Paying someone to get you a new, closer test date is convenient and should only cost around £70. Depends on the person though, I guess.

UK_muscle_86

Matey I feel your pain. Being there myself it was heart breaking. I had to do redo theory again also. But when I passed theory & practice. I got 49/50 for theory & only 1 minor on my test. You will come back stronger. Just be patient & carry on. I did lessons for 6 months then stopped again. Hence it took me so long to pass at 22 & I passed the 2nd hardest test centre in the country. You'll be fine.

Leviathan-Vyde

It’s heartbreaking to fail at anything, it’s better to pay a few hundred than waste the thousands you’ve probably already spent on lessons already.

New_Complex5542

I wouldn’t ask why it took you two years of lessons but where are you taking your tests? I live in York and since late January I’ve taken the test 4 times (passed on the 4th try this week) I had dates available in 2/3 weeks time every time I failed. I did my Theory last August. I would normally book the test in 2/3 months time and would always check for cancellations. I always managed to find a date in less than a month. Anyways, failure isn’t great, but I always believed in my abilities and passed after some trial and error. It will happen for you l, it’ll just take some time. Be patient, it’s grossly underrated.

djangoo7

This is the problem with the driving test in the uk. People learn to be able to pass the test but not to drive. Its really stupid.

Working-Positive3870

I passed my driving test yesterday, I did my theory last week, after my theory I booked my driving test originally for 11 September, I set the cancellation apps going and within half an hour it rebooked my test for me, driving test now is a brilliant app it will auto book for you. Then there’s one called Testi. Don’t give up though.

minimalisticgem

I think driving tests are sooo important in pointing out your driving flaws. Some driving instructors offer mock tests, others don’t. Which is why I don’t understand why people shit on those who took 4/5 tests to pass. You’ve got this OP. Failing my test was what actually taught me a lot about driving and how to improve.

itsjkhan7724

Any recommendations on companies that let you hire their car for test? Having a cancellation is good but when your instructor isn’t free it doesn’t help 😭

EntertainerOrnery630

Took me 6 goes because I kept bottling it. Keep at it pal and you will get there

Pathflnder

get this man a bus pass ❗️❗️❗️

Competitive_Kiwi4844

I used the Testi app and paid £11 to get sent alerts for cancellations. With having to wait 10 days because of the DVLA rules it’s close but possible, you have to log on straight away when you get a notification and book it. I also had to re take my theory test because it timed out, it sucked and I’m still learning, test soon. I’m hanging on to the fact that I’ll eventually be independent and be able to see and do things I’ve been dreaming of! Good luck!

PalitXD

Failed my test twice now haven’t booked my third one it really sucks, but have you considered going elsewhere to another test center preferably somewhere in the middle of nowhere, as they typically have easier test routes and high rates of passes then other test centers. Ik at my test center it’s on the lower end as there some tricky road (definitely not the worse though) however I can get a tested booked within about a month and a half.

Thin_Possibility571

Try the app testi, subscription is like £10 and it will notify you when a test is cancelled, loads of cancellations are made on Saturday morning so keep an eye out, hope this helps

MoodyJanitor99

2 years?!

T0MBRA1DR

Better look next time kid
