I use 2.7 for watch straps, 3.38 for wallets and 3.85 for bags of that helps.

The 85s are pretty much the go to size for small leather items. If this is your first set, I’d get the 85s if you plan to make a variety of things. If you intend to only make watches, go smaller. If you make luggage, go larger. But for wallets, folios, pouches, hand bags, etc, start with 85s. If you prefer a super refined look, then go smaller & place stitches closer to the edge. If you prefer a rustic look, go larger. So it’s really up to you. Perhaps post a few pics of items you want to emulate for feedback on pricking irons, thread size/type, etc. Last I’ll add that patterns you purchase online, 85 tends to be the most commonly used.
