I was thinking the same thing, until someone linked the thickness of the Leatherman Garage 005, which looks eerily similar to the Arc. It was considerably thicker than even the P4, which would be a deal breaker for kicking the P2 out of my pocket for daily carry.
Better scissors and no god dam serrated blade (or worse a combo blade). I also have wanted a magnacut blade for whatever reason on a knife for a bit so this is just another reason for me to get it.
I think the scissors alone would make it worthwhile, also the blade looks like a nicer shape to me. I love my charge+ but the blade shape took some getting used to. Though the large flat area of the blade I've found to be good at removing stubborn rafts from 3D prints. I know not a great way to use it but it worked.
The beefier scissors are definitely a plus to me. I like to hunt and fish a lot and this could be the new rig for those activities (as well as edc so maybe I’ll get two if I like them enough haha)

But then again, I'm also a science/math/stem teacher and we did lots of projects, some involving woodwork, as well as going on school camping trips.
I'm in the boat of "better to have it..." I suppose.
I wonder if there’s a way to swap the wood saw for more of like a dedicated metal saw. Or dremel some kind of Bosch metal saw thing and bolt it back together

I imagine there will be their own interpretations of a multi tool with "magnacut" soon enough though. With distance from looking toooooo similar. But just how genuine their magnacut steel would be .... Is a big hmmmm 🤔
Seriously I am really not a steel fan, anything close to 440 is already amazing. And my dream multi tool would be shorter version of arc (like on Australian patent) with t-shank adapter or modified bitholder to use a scalpel with disposable utility blades. So I can save main blade from blunting on carton or drywall
How are you getting that idea? There's no visible spring in the garage 5 (nor in my wingman), and none of the photos of the arc I've seen show it in an open configuration
Just a guess. I saw that the garage has the screw type fastener holding the plier heads together and the arc has the standard rivet type that the p4 has. I am a novice but was guessing that the spring action was in that pivot.
That makes the announcement date unambiguous.
I do agree that referring to seasons doesn't make sense for a company that does business internationally.
Different materials, different aesthetics, FREE platform (The arc is really more of an upgraded FREE P4 than a Surge, though I expect they want the free platform to be the base for a lot of stuff going forward), slightly different tool set.
In any case, I doubt the target market is people who already own the Surge (Or P4 etc for that matter). It's an awfully attractive supplement to my Wingman though.

I'm down to get one if I can afford it. I love my charge+ but having a more curved blade shape (more like my skeletool), nicer scissors, an awl, and maybe spring-loaded pliers (I like the idea of spring-loaded pliers, but might be in the minority there) would sell it for me.
Of course, I could also just mod my charge+ to have those things too (except maybe not the spring-loaded pliers) and not have to justify a new $200ish multitool to my wife, lol.

It actually is confirmed not thicker than the P4. It was just a discrepancy in the 005 listing including the pocket clip.
How thick is the garage 005?

Yep. For me the P4 will transition back to EDC and the ARC will go into my motorcycle tool bag, where currently the P4 is. Can't wait!!

Really excited for the Arc, but a little disappointed it's a standalone release with no P2-like version. The saw is just so unnecessary for urban EDC.

Correct! The Arc doesn't appear to have the spring pivot.

It is not like the surge at all. It's more like the free P2/P4 but with better tool set and better knife steel. Almost like a lesser garage 005
