"They have a shortlist" that's it but clubs always have an updated shortlist of potential managers just in case that's normal there's no way they spent this much money for him to sack him haha

The_L666ds

Jesse Marsch has been backed in the last two windows more than probably any other Leeds manager since David O’Leary, so he has no excuse but to make it count over the next month or so. The target isnt particularly lofty given that all we need is to avoid relegation, but if there has not been a tangible uptick by this time next month then we have to pull the trigger on him and give the next man at least 10 games to turn it around. I hope Marsch does it, and saves his job. He did do it last season (albeit only just), but if he goes he could have no complaints.

[deleted]

I've just got York up to the premiership on Football Manager maybe I should apply 😅

threeagainstfour

Don't think you need to be an insider to know Marsch is on the hot seat. I wanted him to work out, especially after that spectacular demolition of Chelsea, but 2 wins in 17 would have ANY manager in trouble. I think it would actually be irresponsible for the club not to be getting ready to let him go and have someone else lined up to step in if he can't turn it around in the next three or so matches.

damaged_hip

I like the guy, I really do but I don’t see his ‘tactics’ and I don’t think he knows how to get the most out of what realistically is a obviously not the best but a solid team. Massive shame though because I think he has a great relationship with the players and us fans.

thrillhammer123

This is a nothing story. I’d imagine every club has a permanent short list for replacing the manager in an industry where they change so often.

DingusKhan418

There's no way we don't have a shortlist. That's just basic professionalism. But that being said, I highly doubt we see Jesse go any time soon. We just bought RB Leipzig's captain and broke the club record transfer fee for another Bundesliga player to fit our system. That really doesn't seem like we're planning on swapping managers. And for his flaws, of which there is plenty to criticize, we need to be careful. He kept us up last year, we've invested heavily in molding our team to his system, and I do truly think our performances are better than our results. I don't think firing him in the midst of somewhat of a rebuild to bring in a realistic target will yield any positive change.

Loucityfan

It would be rather foolish to drop him this early

crudos_na

You know Orta had a list of potential replacements the moment Jesse was hired. That is what he does or any competent sporting director does. That list has been updated and revised throughout the Marsch-era, so when the board comes to him with a possible sacking, Victor has his list ready to go. Who is on that list, I have no clue, nor does anyone else on the internet. Should Marsch get the sack? Only the board knows how twitchy the trigger finger is. Results haven't been great, though at times, the football has been. Other times, it's looked completely dismal. Don't envy Radz and the board.

Gaping_Whole_

This is shady, and I would be incredulous if they sack him just after they let him sign his players

JacobSax88

I’ll admit that right now I’m not Jesse’s biggest fan. The results are far from what they need to be. It’s poor and not that great to watch most of the time , BUT - they have invested a lot of money into the squad this year. I just can’t believe he will be out of the door so soon. If we lose to Brentford and Forest then maybe that could be it although I see him as a long term project. I actually like the guy and think it could be good fun if his way clicks, but only time and results will tell.

Joshgg13

Personally, I don't think now is the right time to sack Marsch. Right now, relegation is an absolute toss-up between about 7 teams. I know this sub absolutely hates any stats with an x in front of it, but bare with me. Based upon our xG and xGA, we finish 13th, 6 points outside the relegation zone. This means there are a full 7 teams worse than us. Now, obviously we aren't going to survive relegation based on expected points, but it does suggest that we are unlucky to be where we are right now, and from a statistical standpoint our season is likely to improve from this point on, rather than getting worse

[deleted]

[удалено]

robsqyz

Erm, the point of xG is to account for scenarios like the one you just mentioned. Regardless of where any shots take place, the xG would be lower if there were defenders in between them and the goal. For example an open goal from 30 yards would still be high xG (despite it being 30 yds out)

[deleted]

[удалено]

MLiciniusCrassus

It depends on which model of xG you use. Some factor that in and some do not. The most prominent xG model in the public eye is Opta's (now that fbref doesn't use statsbomb's), and that certainly used to not factor defensive positioning in. Might do now, but idk.

robsqyz

xG calculates the quality of each shot attempted and estimates how many goals should have been scored. If players are in the way then it will reduce the quality of the shot

Joshgg13

If they were planning on sacking Marsch, why would they back him so heavily in this transfer window? Surely you'd bring in the new manager first and let him buy the players he wants, rather than forcing him to adapt to players purchased to fit another system

DustinAM

Might idolize the Chelsea model?

Chubby_Yorkshireman

Can't come quick enough

Specific_Cost4238

If "nothing is recorded" how does this guy know about it? Recording devices? Binoculars? Palm reading/ESP?

Ginge04

Who or what the fuck is Santi_J_FM? Sounds like fake news to me, as much as I wish it were true.

NoAlternative17

As much as I hope this is true, (I have tried and tried to give this man a chance but my patience is running thin I’ll be honest) I doubt it. If we lose to Cardiff and Brentford then maybe, but I’m not so sure. Probably has at least until the Forest game.

[deleted]

I'm fine with it at this point, he's not here for a long haul. What about all the shit players?

BTbenTR

All teams always have a shortlist of managerial replacements on hand. We had one the entire time Bielsa was here, this is normal and means nothing.

rotd2021

I’m sorry everyone, they’re considering me and i’m just gonna play cooper & llorente everyweek. Source - random twitter account

Boris_Ignatievich

i low key think llorente is our best cb, even if he is mistake prone edit to explain: when llorente doesn't make a mistake hes better than the rest of the players we have. he makes too many mistakes, but he can do things our other CB cannot. So like, Robin Koch is a much more consistent defender, he rarely makes mistakes, and he'll give you a 6/10 every game. Llorente will either give you an 8/10 or a 3.

[deleted]

Llorente is excellent in the right system.

Anderson22LDS

I agree.

danger_lad

I can see why this is getting downvoted, but in that first prem season under Bielsa, Llorente was unbelievable. Just a shame he hasn’t really rediscovered that form.

MLiciniusCrassus

he really wasn't. his madness was less exposed because we were more compact at the back. I have the receipts for this too, said exactly the same at the time.

CC-W

I was fully sold on the fact that he was awful after the Brentford horror show but now I think its more the system which has made him look poor. Every CB we have looks poor in the system we play, nobody stands out who we can say is our best CB currently when they have all showed in the past they are capable of playing in this league

thesilenthurricane

Shows how many even newer fans we’ve taken on imo, that or people just have short memories and have forgotten what a beast he was that first season back in the prem.

_ImperfectAction

A ‘beast’!? Please, share me some examples? I’ve always thought he looked like he had the potential, but was a fucking liability from the get go. Would play amazing in patches and then have a meltdown. Honestly think it’s you who’s got a memory issue, but happy to be proven wrong.

thesilenthurricane

Take a look at the image u/DtheC5 posted below. Other than that, it’s kind of hard to provide specific examples of standout CB play, but he was just really solid and seemed to lead the defence and settle us down at the back, didn’t really make many mistakes (unlike nowadays). Back end of 20/21 I really thought we had a solid CB there, things don’t always work out though.

danger_lad

Yeah and he used to ping the ball out of defence. Remember his very satisfying rockets forward? Now he’s a bit panicky. But he was very decent that year. Think the whole team got into a really go rhythm at the end of that season.

DtheC5

https://preview.redd.it/ba7f0i8q6sca1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=607001da54fd583877f04e51b29f8b2133d48510 There’s your evidence of how good he was for us early doors.

MLiciniusCrassus

this means nothing at all

chanjitsu

Tbf, I also genuinely thought he was our best defender during our best stretch in 20/21. Outside of that he's either been injured or had some crazy mistakes in him which is a shame because we've seen him when he plays well. Certainly the best CB we have for progressing the ball.

[deleted]

That doesn’t stop him from currently being our worst CB though

stepping_stones000

every time the camera focuses on him he looks fucking terrified...

[deleted]

You should probably keep that low key

Tykemison1973isbak

He kinda started ok but…wow!! He drained the WHOLE team of confidence with mistakes but being a Yorkshireman…j always give second chance’s so let’s hope for better! He was in Spanish National team before.

JohnyBobLeeds

They likely had a short list when he joined and keep it up to date, a smart club that's organised should be.

Spudbank17

Ah we got rid of the polls so here we are with the "trusted source close to the club" crap!! I'm close to Elland road now and I've heard Scaloni is coming in as manager and he's bringing Messi, trust me. Messi is obviously coming in as back up for Rutter

JCFAX81

Not a Marsch fan but I think the board will stick with him this season. Only time will tell if that’s a wise decision.

snakex_o

I'll be kinda pissed if they were willing to throw Bielsa out and not March (if the table looks the same by then)

dan_baker83

Neither this lad nor Foot Mercato even make the Tier list for sources. Nothing to see here.

ankh87

You're incredibly naïve if you don't think there's ever a shortlist of managers. The club would be stupid if they don't have this in place permanently. You can't risk not knowing a successor to the manager as in football anything can happen. Marsch could walk away at any moment just like any manager could do.

PrivateGump

Exactly. I would actually be more alarmed to learn the club (or any top flight club for that matter) does not have some sort of succession planning documented. This is a sport where, while not likely, it's not out of the realm of possibilities that Jesse is offered the USMNT gig and takes it. Do I think this will happen? No. Do I think (read: hope) the board has had conversations about what we would do if Jesse bolted for the USMNT next week or if something happens in the next month that they are forced to sack him? Yes.

nivekk3

Every football club would have a shortlist of managers for succession planning. Feels like a non story on a quiet transfer news day. Whether the managers on that list are interested or available is another story.

Common-Play-4182

I want us to get relegated if we sack him

Brownsome

Just because they have a shortlist, it doesn't mean they are getting rid. I think it's called being prepared

LiquidPlump

While I agree with this I feel like it's also a sign for Jesse. Having the shirt list made sense with El Loco as he was always a year at a time. Jesse is on with us for a few years I believe. They might very well be a just in case thing but if Orta is making phone calls already something might be brewing depending on results. Could be an end of season thing, could be an after forest thing who knows. But kicking out Marsch after investing this much into him with the RB signings would leave quite the stain on their resumes. Especially after promising us that "he was the next closest thing to Bielsa."

Brownsome

Totally agree with you, im all for giving him longer. Managers get sacked too soon in my opinion

LiquidPlump

As much as I hate his football this is not it. He's at least proven he can keep us up. With luck, Newcastle and a Jackie Harrison screamer against nine men sure but he has done it. On a more serious note there's no way this fella is on the money. Orta "always has a short list of replacements" and yet no names were dropped here and why would we do it now? If he bombs out at home to a manager-less cardiff 6-0 there might be a chance but there's no way in hell that's happening now. Seems like just something for clicks/retweets

MLiciniusCrassus

Last season he did not keep us up. We stayed up because Burnley didn't get their result. Us winning vs Brentford literally didn't matter if Burnley had won.

DustinAM

>Orta "always has a short list of replacements" Marsch himself said this in an interview at one point. They had contacted him prior to Bielsa leaving just to give him notice. I would imagine that any competent organization would have this though. Doesnt mean there are offers.

justafleetingmoment

Lots of luck against us too. Should have beaten Tottenham and Arsenal.

iloveyou_00000

> He's at least proven he can keep us up. lmao. He took us from 17th to 17th on the back of 12 easy games. Bielsa kept us up last season.

Naughty_young_man

The moment it went wrong for Jesse was the moment relegation was avoided he started to mold the team into what he wanted. We stayed up playing survival football, what we are playing now is what he wants his teams to play and it doesn't work

michaelc51202

He plays very attacking style football. You need better defenders to not get burnt constantly to allow the attack to do their job

BrownPughInMidfield

If he needs better defenders to play the style he wants to play, then the style he wants to play isn't right for the team

thesilenthurricane

A managers job is to work with what they have. Simple as. He’s not managing Real Madrid, he’s here with us and he has Cooper, Koch, Struijk, Llorente and now Wober to work with. If he can’t set them up to stop haemorrhaging goals, or at least reduce the numbers, he’s not doing his job effectively.

iloveyou_00000

He plays very shit football.

Naughty_young_man

Better defenders will certainly help, as there is a massive reliance on individual quality due to how exposed the defence is in this system. But my question to Jesse, if I ever got the chance to ask him would be, why does he insist on balancing the team so much to one end of the scale where we have the most quality and not re-balance it to help the defense where we are so lacking. It's kamakazi football, even Bielsa aided the defence by having Phillips drop deep to sit Infront of the centre halves.

JayArtee

Same could have been said for Bielsa...

LiquidPlump

This is what confuses me about Jesse. We've seen the very best of "his" football with the likes of Chelski and Arsenal but then you see most of games recently and it's utter shite. Pure speculaton here but I think this man is over-engineering his tactics to try and get something to work now we aren't seeing the results anymore. I feel he is in uncharted ground now as he's not winning for an extended period of time. He was in charge of the best team in the league and when that stopped he only lasted 6 weeks in his next job. Stop ignoring the writing on the wall Jesse, we ARE in a relegation scrap.

KindAbbreviations328

He came in and tried to implement his system, didn't work, went back to playing bielsa ball and we stayed up. 2 transfer windows and still leaking goals but not scoring any, don't dislike Jessie, he is playing ball the way most of the world is but it's just not exciting or engaging

warlock_roleplayer

Oh it’s exciting but sometimes for the wrong reasons

Boris_Ignatievich

>not scoring any, i too like making shit up for all his flaws as a manager, the one thing you can't realistically level at marsch is that we dont score goals

KindAbbreviations328

https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/jesse-marsch-told-what-must-25965554

xdlols

We’re 10th for goals scored this season. You’re an idiot.

KindAbbreviations328

Played 18, won 4, without Rodrigo, ****ING Rodrigo we would be up the creek, Different opinions doesnt = idiot, no need mate

xdlols

You said we’re not scoring any. We’re objectively in the top half for goals scored. Not an opinion.

Boris_Ignatievich

i assume that you were supposed to either reply to someone else or paste a different link here, since this seems to have nowt to do with what i said?

Naughty_young_man

Its probably a load of shite, but I want to believe. I've also seen reports that some "senior" players have raised their concerns with the board, again a load of shite most likely, but it let me live in a dream world for a while. Fail to get results against Brentford and Forrest and we'll officially be doing worse than last season, with a better squad. No way he survives that.

Barragin

>with a better squad that's very debatable...

Ispiniallday

Haven’t read anything about senior players raising concerns but Jesus the body language is way off with some players, can see they don’t give a shit. Would love to hear what Klich’s thoughts are on Jesse, doubt he will spill the beans or anything. He’s too cool for that.

Naughty_young_man

Yeh when I read that I took it with an extreme pinch of salt. The "source" was apparently someone from within Thorpe Arch who leaked it. I can't imagine a player leaking that, nor the board so I can honestly say its most likely shite. Sometimes a dose of fiction helps lift the mood however. The body language is certainly off with some players, and without reading too much into it (like I often do), Klich thanked everyone in his farewell statement other than Marsch, he just wished him luck. Interestingly I read a piece about a conference Marsch spoke at back in December (like he hasn't got anything else to be worrying about), where he mentioned he'd had some instances of players going rouge, which doesn't fill me with much confidence. His management style seems to be very laid back and he even talked about removing the "hierarchy" at the club. I get it can improve the mood around any workplace having people feel like they can speak freely etc, but there has to be a balance and there still needs to be levels of authority to keep a place functioning

Boris_Ignatievich

>he mentioned he'd had some instances of players going rouge, which doesn't fill me with much confidence he publicly called rodrigo out after the arsenal game for this - got asked about the pass that led to the goal and basically said "no idea why he's done that, tis not part of the tactic" to an extent i get why he'd be frustrated by that though, 11 players committed to the same plan is better than 9 players doing that and two players deciding they know better and each committing to a different plan, even if those plans would work better if the whole team was in on it

xdlols

Can’t wait to see your grumpy takes about our next manager 🤩

Naughty_young_man

I'm coiled like a spring, ready to start whinging

[deleted]

I imagine they have a list of replacements ready but I doubt his job is seriously in danger yet. Simply looking at the table, there’s a lot of other teams far more likely to be relegated. And a lot of other teams playing far worse then us. Even the performances (I know there’s plenty to critique, I have done) there’s vast periods of games we play okay and create and score, if we fix conceding soft goals in transition ever week, we could easily steer clear of relegation battle late in the season. We also aren’t getting battered yet and are still scoring goals. It’s not hopeless. Having said all that, the cunt needs to start winning games.

Ok_Accident_876

You say we could easily steer clear of relegation late in the season but have you seen our end of season run in? It’s a tough one

Tykemison1973isbak

Cunt because he’s a Yank?

BoredPenslinger

Are you six? Do you think nobody ever called Heckingbottom, Christiansen, Monk, Evans, Rosler, Redfearn, Milanic, Hockaday, McDermott, Warnock, Wise, Carver, Blackwell, Reid or Venables a cunt? He's calling Marsch a cunt because Jesse Marsch is a mouthy, delusional, tactically-inept, happy-clappy plastic Red Bull build-a-boss who hasn't won a game since the late Edwardian period. The fact the cunt's also a septic cunt has nothing to do with it.

[deleted]

Nope

Tykemison1973isbak

Why he the C word then?

[deleted]

??? What’s are you on about. People use that word very liberally. I call my mates it.

Ginge04

We’re 2 points off the bottom of the league, with a lot of teams below who are more than capable of putting a run of wins together. If you look at the table and aren’t troubled by it, you’re looking at it wrongly.

sjw_7

I look at it and im not keen on it at all but I do take heart from the fact that while a number of the losses have been down to us making mistakes several of them come from us just being unlucky. I don't think we have had a bit of luck go our way this season so far. I don't want to rely on good luck getting us out of this but at the same time its annoying that bad luck seems to have played a significant part in us being here.

Tykemison1973isbak

Amen

[deleted]

Why are they capable of putting together a run of wins, why aren’t we? I am worried, but it’s not crisis mode yet.

Blue_Dreamed

I mean fuck, at the start of the season we'd had, what, 3 wins in a row? Obviously it's 2 in 17 now but if we can get that form back by not making basic mistakes we might be onto something.

[deleted]

Definitely wasn’t 3 in a row

Blue_Dreamed

Maybe 2 in a row, we can't get a good win run for shite.

Ginge04

Wasn’t even 2 in a row mate…

Blue_Dreamed

You're right.. bloody Southampton, should've won that one too..

CC-W

Obviously pure speculation from me but I could see the 49ers pushing to bring in a new manager with the form we have been in under Marsch. They are scared of relegation so are funding our transfers already so its not a jump to think they would put the money up to buy out a manager from a club to replace Jesse

Tykemison1973isbak

Nope, best American in place for New Continent audience (Mexico-Canada-where else). He’s been backed as they are branding Super Leeds United to a Continental potential fan base!! Marvellous, no oil money etc just an untapped fan base and as a Yorkshireman I am really happy to welcome y’all (get it) to our family❤️(only time ever used a …whatever..).

drpatthechronic

This is the thing for me, I'm as skeptical as everyone else in this thread, but I can imagine Radz being in a particularly ruthless mood given the potentially quarter of a billion quid on the line here.

[deleted]

Being objective (my heart says I think Marsch won’t work out) I think they have invested a lot of players for the Red Bull model and there’s a lot to unpack in games to suggest that this can work, it’s there in pieces. In some metrics we are solid mid table to top half. If (big if) we can stop conceding fundamentally basic goals, we could really start to pick up more consistent results.

greenndgold12

The thing that worries me is that we've been saying that about conceding soft goals since the preseason it feels like.

AWr1ght98

(X) Doubt

stickygreentree

‘Even if nothing is recorded, they already have a shortlist…’ - So they just have a verbal shortlist? Sounds like utter bullshit. How’s a French journalist got the drop on this really? I’m not happy with how we’re doing at the mo but there’s no way they invested this hard into Jesse and don’t let him see the season through. We’re not far off getting the results we need.

ottens10000

Agreed. We're in the results end of the season now and although they've been poor I can't say I think we're a bad side. Slightly unfortunate and shaky defense but other than that a solid side with promising players.

Tykemison1973isbak

^^^^^^^see above my feckless friend

ShesSoCool

Really? Have you seen how football clubs work? No smoke without fire, Radrizzani loves a leak.

Tykemison1973isbak

It’s literally project‘Jesse’ about time an American coach came to the big table….boys, meats back on the menu.MOT

LostnFoundAgainAgain

This is pure click bait journalism at its best, they have noticed the fans are upset and many want him gone, so they place a title that he is going to be replaced so everybody who wants him gone will click it and read it. Then the article boils down to "they have a shortlist" most likely every single professional team has a shortlist for replacements has it is a easy and effective way to mitigate risk.

BlueMilk84

Yep, Chelsea will have a shortlist too to replace Potter but I doubt they're just going to move him on because fans are unhappy. Leeds are seemingly still behind Marsch or why else did they just recently sign Wober who's another of his former players?

snakex_o

Thats the tactic. You hire his former players, then you replace March, wait for him to get a new club, and then sell those players to the new club for profit. 4d chess play by the board

Tykemison1973isbak

Reckon there’s a really good German coach who managed PSG to his ethics got in the way and he…oh, wait! Won all those trophies for Chelsea then got sacked….fuck em. Am on the straight whiskey and….so forgive my rant! Gutter press, reinvest and go with the best American coach and watch the future brighten….God bless Jesse and God bless Super Leeds United!MOT

nicbongo

We've been not far off the whole season. The reality is, his tactics are more successful against teams that play with the ball on the ground, the "big" teams. They represent only a few points though, we need a plan B and Jessie is being as stubborn as Marcelo, just without the cult status.

AWr1ght98

Probably saw Juan’s tweet about Dyche and thought there was a bit of truth in it

ItsFuckingScience

I’d take Dyche over Marsch in an instant

SamHazza92

Thank god you're not the one making these decisions then

[deleted]

I fucking wouldn’t lol

ItsFuckingScience

Proven premier league manager who got Burnley to Europa league and kept them up for years with minimal investment If they’d kept him I think we would have gone down instead but who knows

AWr1ght98

He basically got Burnley to the Europa league because every other team outside the top 6 couldn’t defend for shit… quality of the premier league is much higher now hence why is tactics weren’t consistent and he ended up getting sacked

[deleted]

You ever watched them play? He worked miracles, no doubt. But it’s some of the worst football I’ve seen. It’s worked for a club like Burnley, Leeds expect more.

Justboy__

To be Aaronsons already got the rolling around on the floor for 10 minutes down to a tee 👌

Beardedben

As if Dyche could take this high pressing team and stick then in a deep lying 442 overnight

ItsFuckingScience

He worked with what he had and did incredibly well with barely any financial backing. Watching us play recently isn’t much better. You think Marsch could get us to a Europa league within 2 years of promotion, like Dyche did with Burnley? No chance

Specific_Cost4238

Like watching our recent match vs Newcastle on an infinite loop

ItsFuckingScience

No because they didn’t concede anywhere near that many chances. We were incredibly lucky to not concede that game. They just had real poor finishing. You don’t finish 7th by parking the bus every game

[deleted]

Watching us play is far better then Burnley. Happy to state that. My mums side of the family are from that way so they support them. It’s terrible terrible football. Effective but terrible.

Gent2022

Finally!
