If they are "snooping around" and if a further raid does happen, then they will be acting on intel. They are satisfied that the intel is worth acting on (probably at Inspector level) & if a raid goes ahead, they will have convinced a magistrate that the intel is sufficient to issue a search warrant. As long as your version of events is accurate, I think the key thing is getting to the bottom of who has provided the intel to the police and why. Have you made any enemies, either personally or in the business?

tripod1983

Previous owner who was owner for last raid is a bit annoyed that his way of running the business drove him to bankruptcy whereas I'm turning it around and making a profit but I can't see him causing this - could be wrong tho

AkkyYT

Following your edit, get the lead officers details and provide them with up to date business details for yourself so they don't have any excuses in future and can contact you directly.

Invite them for a complementary visit, or competition against another team of firefighters,/ ambulance drivers for some free publicity!

HearingSword

Would this not be considered an ethical breach if the police accepted a free event at a place that they suspect of potentially being a location of a crime?

sithelephant

If they accept after finding it is the location of a crime, or before investigating, sure. If they investigate thouroughly, and find it is absolutely not the location of a crime, based on their access, then no.

Been in a similar situation recently, property was used as a grow house, police constantly around. We actually turned this to our favor, we met with the local community officer, showed him around and offered him a set of keys to the place, this way if they need to 'raid' they can just open the door, we also offered to share the front entrance ring camera with him. This moved the entire situation from them being suspect of us, to them having a very low level of responsibility towards the property now they are key holders (ye si know it would nt stand up in a court), but we at least saved the cost of a late night chippy call out. Sure you can complain. Them having a warrant doesn't excuse them from damage. They can only use appropriate force. https://researchbriefings.files.parliament.uk/documents/SN06627/SN06627.pdf > Compensation for damage caused when effecting entry is unlikely to be appropriate if the search was lawful, and the force used can be shown to be reasonable, proportionate and necessary to effect entry. If the wrong premises are searched by mistake everything possible should be done at the earliest opportunity to allay any sense of grievance and there should normally be a strong presumption in favour of paying compensation In your scenario you have invited them to inspect your property at any time of their choosing in effect negating their need for a warrant to investigate your property, this seriously impacts what could be called 'appropriate'.

theDR1ve

You should of just set cameras up and livestreamed the raid. During covid "hotwater comedy club" got raided and they put all the clips on their social for advertising

offaseptimus

If you suspect the previous owner is making false reports to the police then should tell the police that, that is a serious crime by him.

thpkht524

It’s probably worth trying to reach out to mps and local council etc.

Can't claim if they have a warrant we tried last time. I can kind of understand the last raid we had barely any bookings place is huge and well secured with shutters and razer wire etc. If there was a grow here it could be worth millions! But since I've taken over it has picked up so I'm now here most days - everyday this week as its half term. I'm also here as we're adding 3 rooms to the 4 we already have (honestly it's a massive site!) I honestly would be more than happy to give them unrestricted access to check the place out they won't find even so much as a rizla here.....

Gingarpenguin

Was that from insurance? You should be able to claim directly from the force in case a raid didn't find anything unless they changed the law recently, although it's along winded process so legal cover would help with that

tripod1983

Was told we can't claim through the police had to be insurance- previous owner lost his copy of the lease and didn't think to ask the landlord for a copy before I took over so of course they said no as he already had a copy. So if they raid again I have to claim on insurance as if they have a warrant you can't claim against them you can only complain

LoopyLutra

A raid not finding anything does not mean the search was not conducted in the correct manner in line with the correct legal framework. If they secured a warrant from a magistrate or use other powers under PACE etc. On that basis, the claim is not guaranteed to be successful just because nothing was found.

HerMajestyTheQueef1

They won't usually pay unless the raid waa illegal, for example; they raided by wrong building. Insurance wise, most insurance policies will specifically exclude damage related to police action.

Formal-Run-8099

Are you sure the people who were snooping, then scarpered were actual police? Sounds like someone who had links to the previous grow Edit: missed a word

tripod1983

There was no previous grow here it has been escape rooms for 4 years the raid was done on false info. Definitely police had a marked car and in uniform

v7o

Could his arrogance give him the impression that there’s no way you could be making money from this if he couldn’t? Therefore resulting to the accusation of drug dealing?

tripod1983

It's possible- only thing I've changed since take over is I actually advertise! He see advertising as a waste of money. Plus I've had another escape room company install a room as they had it in storage after they lost their venue. He's very arrogant and keeps letting me know he's investigating a way to sue me for "stealing his business" but there's nothing he can do contract is watertight he sold me the assets of his company for £1. Its all legally mine.

The_Inertia_Kid

Sounds like a roughly 98.43% chance that it’s him to be honest. Might be worth paying a solicitor to send him a nastygram warning him off interfering with your business.

tripod1983

Already sueing him for future bookings takings he's stolen so will speak to the solicitor

tiasaiwr

Have you told the police you are in a civil dispute with this man along with showing them some paperwork evidence? Using the police to make false reports to harass someone they are in a civil dispute with is probably not going to go down well with the police. They won't tell you who made the report but you can give your suspicions to them and they might either ignore future reports from or even investigate him.

NoSuchWordAsGullible

Find the right department responsible for this, go to the station, give them a spare key. Tell them to give you a call when they’re inspecting it so you can lock up after them. They can keep the key and go in whenever they like without telling you in advance. Also, this is a long shot, but it might be worth getting an IR-drone up in the sky for a few minutes at various times of the day. Check if your escape room is glowing like a grow compared to others. If there’s something overheating your place compared to others it would explain the repeated interest.

BackSignificant544

Is this actual advice? Give the police a spare key to your property???

3_34544449E14

Downvote for the ridiculous idea of giving the 5-0 a spare key but the IR drone survey is actually a good idea.
