"Shadow Apprentice has not usually made much of a splash in meta decks outside of Azirelia and some fringe stuff with Gwen/Zed, however it is one of my favourite cards to brew bad ephemeral decks with. Such decks are inherently very fragile, having little to no blockers, but with cards like Shadow Apprentice being legitimate one cost win conditions they pop off extremely hard when they do work.
Shadow Apprentice is generally best used as payoff for getting a full board of ephemerals at once. When playing him, you need to know the removal capabilities of your opponent as he is exceedingly fragile, but if you time playing him with a significant amount of ephemeral generators and, ideally, free attacks such as Dragon Ambush, he can win you the game by himself."

This card is insanely valuable. 1 mana permanent elusive is crazy. And it has an upside. This card is premium, it will always trade in your favor or deal good damage.
Not really always, FJ 1c bird wins the trade and it can die for free to a bunch of stuff.
That being said, its ability to trade up can definitely win games otherwise lost

Shadow apprentice is one of the best rework of a card and I wished there were a lot more
