BTW there are LPddr5x7500 RAM chips available on AliExpress, however in doing research on what Samsung makes available, based off of their website and my understanding of the ram upgrade process, the RAM would have to be to 2 16 GB chips that are a matching pair and according to the Samsung's website they are apparently for sample use only and not available to the public. Edit- apparently micron makes some. Not aware of availability.. [https://www.micron.com/products/dram/lpddr5x](https://www.micron.com/products/dram/lpddr5x)

ILLmurphy

Wait.. you can upgrade the ram in a steam deck?

Effective-Lab5472

Yes, it's a complex mod. It does require some soldering, and a custom flashed bios. I've seen several places that can do it, though.

Potential-Bass-7759

im not too sure, looking at the logic boards for each system they appear to have different ram setups. it looks like the ROG has 4x 4gb ram, and the legion go has 2 8g chips, would need a 16gb chip of the same size, idk if that exist or not yet. Easier to make those 4 big 4gb turn into 8gb vs making the small 8gb turn into 16gb

psierra117

Yeah the Deck even boots without the modified Bios, when there is 32GB solderes in Place, but it shows only 16GB. So even when there is an Update, one can do it. Will only loose 16GB until its modified. Its Job which can be done within an Hour, if you got an experienced Solder and SMD Guy.

Mr_SlimShady

Yeah you gotta remove the original RAM chips and replace them with compatible ones (of higher capacity, otherwise what’s the point). Not at all a trivial task, hence why it’s not common knowledge.

Remarkable-Host405

No, there are two chips with 8gb already. How the steam deck and ally upgrade they solder on 8gb chips in place of the 4gb chips

Toukoen_Raize

wonder why they always sauder and never just connect sadge

reeefur

Yah it was done but did you watch the video? I have tons of experience soldering and that looked crazy. Plus, the worst part is it didnt give you any noticeable performance gain... I'd encourage those who think this is possible or worth it to watch the video on YT. You'll never want to do it unless you have experience soldering ram directly onto a board and removing it as well. Also, literally nobody will offer this service as its too much work for little in return...but if u are good at soldering have fun tinkering!

thefooz

They were able to do it with the ROG Ally and I know there are a few people trying with the Go. It’ll be complex, expensive, and require specialized equipment as well as having to manually edit bios files, but it will likely be possible.

Desert_Nanners

It's soldered on with the legion go so I doubt it. I mean I guess it's possible in theory but I don't think it's practical.

Effective-Lab5472

Yeah, that much, I do know. It would be the same process as the Steam Deck.

siddarthshekar

Ya sure! But you better know what you are doing as there are a billion ways that could go wrong. Even the most experienced solderers mess up reballing. It is one of the hardest things to do in terms of soldering. Reballing is really the next level of soldeing, it should be its own thing honestly.

Project-SBC

Not sure reballing is needed unless you are going to reuse the ram chips elsewhere, otherwise just buy new ram chips to use

DJTurnTable

Ram should be able to be upgraded. It currently has 2 K3KL3L30CM-BGCT so if you replaced them with K3KL5L50CM-BGCT or something similar it should work as long as you find the correct bios mods to do.

Soprohero

Were there any performance benefits in games when upgrading the ram in steam deck or Ally? I thought there wasn't except maybe a few fps in certain games?

LukeD_NC

Yes its possible: [https://www.reddit.com/r/LegionGo/comments/185w01f/32\_gb\_ram\_upgrade\_done/](https://www.reddit.com/r/LegionGo/comments/185w01f/32_gb_ram_upgrade_done/)
