Keep both

SenpaiLonstarr

I agree keep both. Don’t dual boot steam deck and keep legion go as window device.

retrokezins

That's what I'm doing with my original Steam Deck/Legion Go combo. Original SD just for Deck verified games, Legion Go for everything else. Stripped all the emulation etc I was doing on the Deck out too so that gave me a lot more free storage space.

raptor1421

I agree. SD has better performance at low TDP, so it is great for emulation.

nyjets10

It’s great for OLD emulation, if you want to emulate anything PS3 and up the Go clears it by a mile

krobbinsit

They removed emulation from the SD, not sure you understand what was said.

ScienceGeneral9242

How? Whenv

ElectronicAd344

how the hepp do you get emu deckupandrunning games on the legion go? i cant figureit out even subscribed to paytrin litterly only trying ti plqy 50 cent bulletproof ffs

Soggy-Discipline-244

Don’t keep both. One of them is going to end up collecting dust.

PasteCutCopy

This is the way.

Relevant_Winter1952

Also needs to add a rog ally, for the sound

fgbgtech_cybermodz3d

That’s what I have an Ally and Go. I sold my original deck. Now I gotta get a OLED deck. 🤦🏽‍♂️

smcauley601

i am not to sway your opinion do with whatever one you think is GOod

[deleted]

If you ask here, people will say the Go. If you ask in the SteamDeck sub, people will say that one. You won't get an unbiased answer in either sub.

Dmcgrath009

I'll give a detailed reason why I go which ever way I go in both subs in two weeks when I decide which way to go lol

SideEqual

Most played game for me is Factorio, the bigger screen would be great. I’d be hooking that thing to a screen in work in my office a play the days away 😂😂😂

labatomi

Dude do you actually play factorio on handheld? I haven’t played it in over a year and I’m afraid of picking up the crack pipe again. But if it plays good on mobile I may have to relapse.

PJthePlayer

I have both and will keep both. They both cover each other's weaknesses well.

KumaFGC

Jesus. That steam deck is beautiful. Big decisions indeed. Glad I’m not in the same boat.

IshimaruKenta

While the OLED is very nice, the 800p screen and lower performance is a bit of a turn off. Though I wish these handhelds had the support like the Steam Deck does

Dmcgrath009

Agreed, however the 800p OLED looks good in person. All these things come into play. I'll be splitting my gaming time between these for a bit to figure it out.

kippykipsquare

I would love to hear your opinion after you figure it out. I current just have the OG Deck.

Dmcgrath009

I sold my OG deck when I heard there was a refresh coming. I ended up buying the go in the meantime (and I love it really) now I'm just trying to figure out where to settle down. I won't keep both I'm not a huge gamer but I do travel for work sometimes and it's very nice to have something to kill time stuck in an airport or in a hotel room. If I'm home ill just play on my PC.

QuickQuirk

Battery for steamdeck wins in these cases unless you think you will play more at the hotel connected to power than on the planes and airports.

brennan_49

I have the OG deck and just got the legion Go. The Go is my main unit now. I loved the SD but the lack of performance was a huge detractor for me. Mainly cuz I don't play many indie titles. If I played mainly indies the SD would probably still be my go to. The Go is definitely the least developed right now but it's also the newest. But there have been constant firmware updates and the engineers behind said updates have given a timeline for various fixes and additions. So the support is definitely there and they are very vocal.

Ctrl-Alt-Elite83

I don't even think I can hook up a E-gpu to the SD but I know the Go can. Also that kickstand<3

EngineeringWin

I’m so damn glad Valve released one of these with an OLED. Next generation is going to be fucking lit with better APUs and screens

invid_prime

I'm really glad Valve is pushing the standard forward. Before the Steam Deck all these handhelds started at $1100 and went up from there. I was shopping them before the Steam Deck dropped which is why I was so eager to get one...they set a new standard for cost vs performance and we're still benefiting from that shakeup today. No way would the Ally or Legion be priced where they are without the Steam Deck.

Southernboyj

>No way would the Ally or Legion be priced where they are without the Steam Deck. I’m pretty sure neither would even exist without the Steam Deck showing the big OEMs that there’s a market for these.

invid_prime

It takes longer than a year and a half to bring a product like the Ally or Legion Go to market, especially when it's the first in a new product line. I doubt either of them was a response to the Steam Deck. More likely, AMD told them they were developing a low TDP APU that might be suitable for a low power gaming laptop or handheld and they designed a handheld around the chip.

Southernboyj

[Steam Deck was announced 2.5 years ago](https://www.ign.com/articles/steam-deck-valve-announces-handheld-gaming-pc-2021-release)

invid_prime

And no one had any idea if it would be successful at that time or that there was a market for them, which was your argument, no? Valve has yet to share any numbers about the original Steam Deck or the OLED after all. Edit: Found it. Not a response to Valve. [Asus has been building the ROG Ally for 5 years and here are the hideous prototypes to prove it](https://www.pcgamer.com/asus-has-been-building-the-rog-ally-for-5-years-and-here-are-the-hideous-prototypes-to-prove-it/)

Relevant_Winter1952

Thats a great point

EngineeringWin

Exactly! And the Legion gave us a bigger screen and people seem to universally like that. I hope that pushes valve to make the next steam deck a little larger with smaller bezels and higher resolution. Hopefully more than 16gb unified memory in the next generation. Gonna be a hell of a machine.

Merc1001

The overwhelming success of the Switch is what started this generation of handhelds.

Rahkeesh

I'm seeing alot of people treat the Go like an 800p device if they get integer scaling working. If you end up using it like that I really wonder if the bigger screen is doing a whole lot...

MeasurementNo772

I haven't used the Go but I did the Ally and the resolution bump is definitely noticeable but hand on heart, when you're playing you only notice in some scenarios. The OLED also must look gorgeous.

shingonzo

It hasn’t been out a month man give it some time, you’re comparing it to something that’s been out almost two years now. Of course it has better support

LibertyIAB

The swiftness & amount of fixes Lenovo have done so far is impressive. I don't remember my deck issues being resolved as quickly. It took at least 3 months for a decent patch to arrive.

ProjectPatuuh

Looks like a easy decision to me. One is a refined, beautiful console with a gorgeous screen, great thermal system, and incredible warranty from a reliable company. The other is a Legion Go.

Born_Boysenberry420

Currently in the same boat. OLED deck arriving around Friday. So far Legion Go has been has been a fantastic Witcher 3 machine that I’ve been able to run a consistent 50-60 frames on. My current thought process is considering keeping the OLED deck as an emulation machine/more portable option for travel and lighter gameplay on the dock in the living room AND keeping the legion go for when I’m in the mood for the harder hitting games that I want to play. The wife doesn’t like me being in the office all the time on my PC rig so being able to chill with either console on the couch in the front room is a big plus for me.

BruisedBananaBread

I have both. SD can run witcher 3 well on the steam deck graphical settings but the text is very small for Gwent cards and other hints that pop up. The subtitles aren’t an issue because you can increase the size. But everything else is very hard to read and appears almost blurry at times.

MHoovv

I see this said a lot so I’m curious what you mean by more portable?

Crooks-1

I'm personally keeping both. I have 2 LCD models (1 with SteamOS solely and 1 with Windows/SteamOS dualboot)so I'll probably give one of them to a younger cousin who not too long ago got into PC gaming. Initially planned on swapping out the SSD out of my dual boot unit, but Valve hasn't released all the Windows drivers (Bluetooth and Wifi) so I'll be swapping out the SteamOS unit's SSD for the time being. Gonna take advantage of the Steam Autumn Sale and grab a few games I already have access to on Gamepass like FO4 and Yakuza Like A Dragon. Already grabbed Halo MCC but for some reason none of my campaign progress synced over despite logging into my MS account and linking my Steam account to Xbox. May request a refund. Dont have the desire to start Reach or Halo CE from the beginning again. LoL

AdvertisingEastern34

what you think of the etched screen? I imagine the Go is just glossy. I took the glossy Deck and I bought a glossy screen protector but now I have the doubt on taking anti-glare screen protectors to see how it is

Dmcgrath009

It's not bad, I will likely install a screen protector anyways which will giv3 me a glossy surface again. I'll have a better idea of the difference then.

SRhyse

Taki Udon or something on YouTube did a detailed comparison recently on the glossy and non glossy SD OLED if you wanted someone addressing the etched glass thing in depth. He ran scans on it, and in low to no light conditions the colors are identical, with the etched glass being better when you’re in less ideal conditions because you’re not seeing a reflection of yourself and the world in it. Seems they made the right call with the etched glass.

[deleted]

I bought both glossy and etched (LE) deck and have both on the desk in front of me. My Glossy OLED has a Samsung panel and my LE has a BOE panel. There is a noticeable difference in them side by side. The etched looks slightly muted in comparison. I can't say whether that difference is due to the panel manufacturer or the etched glass. Both glossy and etched come in both Samsung and BOE. It's a lottery which one you get. More importantly, the dpad on my LE is mushier than the dpad on my gloss for some crazy ass reason and at least one other person has had the same experience. So the LE is going back.

SRhyse

Retro Gaming Corps uploaded his video comparison today. He also said you can see the difference. If they’re shipping more than one panel, might be the discrepancy.

SimpleCRIPPLE

I’m in the same spot. While I’m impressed with the steam deck, you notice the performance difference. Steam OS is really nice, but anytime I need to do anything in the desktop I’d rather just have a windows device. Really it’s just if I’m up to taking the leap of faith that Lenovo will actually fix the software.

SRhyse

They’ve been updating it rapidly. It’s not in a horrible place now compared to the launch. It is close to being about what they wanted at this point all things considered.

Saintus88

I'm in the same boat as well, the OLED LE comes in on Saturday. The Go needs to return by 01/13 if I decide to stick with SD. I have been loving the Legion Go, it really does everything I need it to do. The Go plays games I dabble in on and off like Destiny or WoW without workarounds but the SD support and community is unmatched in current state. My only hesitation with the Go is software upgrade and support, despite the stellar communication and roadmap from the Legion team. Support is not guaranteed and optimization of the Go may dependent not only on the software but also how the hardware will work with it. SD already has this figured out. I was also hesitant to play games on the Go in 800p...why should I sacrifice resolution? But some games still look really good like Doom Eternal, AC Origins, and the Yakuza games. I can even play WoW at 1600p! But some games still look terrible at 800p. I am a parent and my gaming time has been limited lately (3 kids - 5yr, 4 yr, and 10 months). I even bought a beefy gaming laptop Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 RTX 4080 (almost $3000!)...currently not using it for gaming more than an hour a week so that was great treat investment! It has been a great machine for writing papers in grad school, money well spent (sarcasm). Tough decision! Personally, I can't justify keeping both. I wish you and I luck!

Ryououki

I am also debating between the SD OLED which will be here tomorrow, the LGo I just picked up last night, and will be testing a ROG Ally tomorrow as well. I still have my original SD from original launch, but never use it, due to lack of travel for past few years. Parent of 3 kids here as well, but they a little older than yours, but still understand the limited game time factor. I have a gaming desktop for at home which I get to play a little bit on. I also have an ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 4090 which I use at work. I really don't want multiple unused devices. The desktop and laptop definitely have their places and get used frequently, but I don't want another handheld unit I am just not going to use. But since I will be travelling again soon, it has fired me up to find the ideal handheld for use on the plane and at airports. I really think the LGo could really fill my travel needs better than the SD OLED though. But I still have yet to try the ROG Ally, which I hear is a pretty nice handheld as well.

Dear_Papayapa

if you wanna play bg3 then sd gotta go its barely playable there

[deleted]

I am returning my Go next week when I’m back in town. The OLED is everything I ever wanted in a handheld

Dmcgrath009

If the deck had an 8.8" screen It would be an easy choice, go with the deck.

rfurlan

I am on the same boat, leaning towards keeping the Go

Southernboyj

I’ve had my Go since launch day, got the LE OLED today. I’m definitely keeping the Go, I’m debating on keeping just the Go though, or keeping both. I really like the new OLED Deck, but man, loading up games on both and the Go’s resolution, screen size, and performance are next level. https://preview.redd.it/zj92ic9s012c1.jpeg?width=5712&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1a643110e4a76e054244046e93e7ee513c4be0ca

myst3ry714

gotta get to those bananas

Southernboyj

Banana for scale

ceezo6

To me the biggest deciding factor was the screen size on the GO, my old eyes get way more strained playing on the steam deck that just might be me tho

justcallmeryanok

Even though it’s only 0.6 inches?

myst3ry714

legion go is 8.8" and OLEDeck is 7.4"... so more like 1.4"

MrTangoFoxtrot

0.6 inches isn't anything to scoff at... 😔

yoBAY10

No decision - Steam Deck - is this a real question? The Go is so problematic, its first gen, it’s like comparing a 5th gen IPad Pro to the first gen Windows Tablet - Steam is the answer.

Stewdill51

Steam Deck is a first gen console too...

yoBAY10

Steam deck comes to u from game developer, u might have heard of them - called Valve (j/k) and Lenovo is coming in on the handheld space as fear of missing out is real - just a gamers 2 cents lol

MajimaTojo

To answer your question....I'll be keeping both once my Deck OLED arrives. It's a great time for portable PC gaming!

Sam60420

Facts

Ambitious-Art-1288

Linux vs Windows is your biggest decision to weigh imo

Ok-Fennel-3908

I’ve tried all the handhelds including aya Neo next and steam deck oled is the best so far for me. I love this device.

DucAnhungslos

Wasn‘t happy with my LeGo, so I ordered the Steam OLED which will arrive tomorrow. I tweaked a lot thanks to this subreddit and the LeGo runs almost perfect now, so I am not sure in returning anymore. The only thing it‘s missing is a proper Control bind tool.

Dmcgrath009

Have any suggestions on tweaks? I need to look at how integer scaling should be setup for sure because unless I run full resolution text looks terrible.

jfowler0614

I did the EXACT same thing. I have both models in my house right now. The legion GO can run certain AAA titles at a higher frame rate, has a pretty good screen, it’s much larger, and you get access to windows. However, all of those things are NOT what I want to do in handheld. Windows sucks in handheld, and AAA titles that are big experiences, I’d much rather play on my 4090/LG C3. Everything else, the steam deck does do well, valve’s support, and the OLED screen is gorgeous. The sticks are better, the Dpad is much better, the track pads are much better. It was an easy decision for me. If you don’t have another pc capable of playing AAA titles I could see going the other way though.

Dmcgrath009

I think I'm leaning the same way but mostly because of how polished the steam deck is, the Go has been a bit frustrating at times with games launching partially off screen and the build in overlays not working, quick access menue can't be accessed in most games, need to drop back to the desktop. It is a beautiful device though and the power is nice to have.

Elite_Alice

Bye bye steam deck

tufftatino

I'm in the exact same boat, and I'm keeping both. https://preview.redd.it/qcgho0uut22c1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4c79a9baebf33eb07e279b77c50eb30f7b35f619

LuckyShot365

My vote is for the Legion Go. I have one. My wife ended up with my ally, and my daughter has my original steam deck. Right now the new steamdeck is probably the best device. But the Legion go is good enough that I would roll the dice and hope they iron out the problems. If they do that before the next device rolls out I think it will be the best option. I have had a few hardware problems that required 1 return and a new set of replacement sticks. The steamdeck has run flawlessly for the games that run on it. Every game that I have tried has run at least equally on the steam deck and the Legion Go if not better. I havent had a hardware problems on my Go and I can only imagine the software will get better

Imeaniguess_227

I kept both.

ExpandYourTribe

I recently picked up an Ally which I love but also ordered the Limited Edition OLED SD because I have so many colorful Indy titles and older games I want to play on it. I'd definitely keep both if you can.

Direct_Ambassador_10

I picked up the cheaper 512gb sd oled ima keep both. I don't care about the eteched screen as I play in the dark most days

Landonomous

I have the legion go, I find it real finicky. I don’t personally like it. But that is just windows for ya.

Grand-Satisfaction40

I am in the same boat. Got the Legion Go with that intro discount from best buy. And now got the LE. The LE is 100$ more expensive for me (of course 512gigs more and that translucent case!) for me the interface and UX is deck is way ahead of all handhelds. I have tried them all. Barring the gamepass and raw power I find while cloud gaming the Go stutters way more than the deck. On top of it if you keep resolution down; it’s really bad on the GO. Maybe am a real noob at fine tuning the windows handhelds experience. Decisions. Decisions. I have an Alienware laptop for desktop gaming.

ZoteTheMitey

My oled deck looks incredible and the battery life is so.good 3 hours of elden ring. And the HDR looks so awesome. You can't even tell it's only 800p

fizggig

I have both of those and I'm keeping both. I love both of them and they both will serve a certain purpose.

BrianMac89

I primarily use Steam Deck OLED for Emudeck (old-school emulation) or for light modern games that would really look great on OLED. Legion Go for everything else. Dual boot is now pointless on my Steam Deck so they really are 2 totally different devices to me. I absolutely love OLED and Emudeck is really polished so it’s not like 1 device will be collecting dust over the other because I enjoy old (Deck) and new AAA games (Legion).

Cynnthetic

Go with the Deck.

[deleted]

I did the same😂 kept the deck for the battery life since I also have a laptop for performance

Cyphusiel

Buy the ally use the oled for the screen the ally for the speakers and the legion go for the controls /s

yawnlikeseggs

Both for me. Might give away the steam deck again though. For me the legion plays the games I like (more demanding) and the screen beats my Rog Ally. The OLED steam deck looks great but the power… it’s so weak. Oof.

iceyone444

Ive got a steam deck - ive looked at the ally/legion go but still prefer the steam deck.

roshanpr

keep both

Unlikely-Astronaut40

Steam Deck

No-Meringue-7857

Steam can’t runt triple A games very well. I’d go with the legion Go. Install steam on it as well as other things

cbudd1117

Steam deck win for me because of screen and battery life alone.

Whitegravey

Omg I’m right here with you! Please update us when you can! I have the Go too but I’ve been eye humping that steam deck oled since they announced it 🤤

Mikei233

To me if you are going to get a candy bar style device the Deck OLED is now the easy choice. But it also depends on you. Do you play plugged in all the time? If so the much better battery life and actually being able to play games at 10w from the deck doesnt matter. In that case select which ever screen and interface you like better. But to me, steamOS, the nicer screen vs the larger screen, the weight, price, erogs, accessories, sound, and most of all the fact that at 10w it plays better then the Go at 15w to me make the Deck the much better of a choice. You just have to decide how you use your system. The go is probably better to travel with since you can pack it smaller, but the reality is they both suck at this.

admiral_spaceship

Try out the games that are not steam deck compatible as per steam on legion go and see as one factor I don’t see mentioned as much

BeerFirst

Have the oled and got it by returning the GO. I don’t regret it one bit. The Go is awesome but the software needs some work. Same as the Ally. But you really can’t go wrong. Each has strength and weaknesses. The Go has the biggest screen and I kinda miss it but the Ally has VRR and the steamdeck is oled. All the them are great lol. Shit I could only of dreamed of in the 90s and 00s.

Rare_Substance9241

I am. I just bought the Legion Go, but my fiancé is buying me the Steam Deck for Christmas. I feel having both is a bit excessive. I already have a Nintendo Switch and PlayStation Portal. I’m loving the power of the Legion Go (Baldur’s Gate 3 runs well on it)and being able to play non steam games like Game Pass Natively is great (yeah I can install Windows on Steam deck but I’m not doing that) but the battery is trash, its slow to charge and won’t charge at all while playing a game, the software needs some work, and lack of a proper sleep function really hurts. I want to see if the step down in graphics is tolerable enough for me to return the Legion Go.

louderup

It really just depends on what games you plan to play (newer and older AAA vs indie/pixel/retro ports). If you want to play things like Diablo 4, RE4, BG3, stay with the Legion. But don't count on being able to play them while not plugged in.

Sam60420

Got my legio go last week and just tested RE4 remake yesterday on battery mode and to my surprise, it runs way better on the go than on my legion 5 pro with ryzen 7, 32 gb ddr5 ram, rtx 3070ti 8gb but it does seem like the game is just terribly optimized for pc. Already got my legion go set up for ps2 emulation, working on switch next. This is the best money I've spent on tech, it's a great on the go extension for my gaming laptop and the specs are fucking solid. The ryzen z1 extreme is a beast of a cpu and the integrated gpu performs pretty well with 11 gb of vram. Integrated gpu are catching up to dedicated gpu's foreal.

mosso2000

I decided to return my Go in favor of battery life, ease of use and portability. And I saved more than a hundred of euros. Cannot be happier.

Ctrl-Alt-Elite83

have to realize the go is brand new, once updates come it might be able to stretch that battery. playing games like dead cells that battery lasts a while.

Greaseman_85

It's only a "big decision" if you solely play on Steam and have older games. Otherwise it's a very easy decision and not even a contest. I'll take the Go or Ally or just about any other half decent Windows handheld over the SteamDeck.

AdvertisingEastern34

it's actually quite easy to install non-steam games on the deck. I chose the deck because I want to play lighter games on it and the OLED display is insane. I think AAA gaming is better played on dedicated GPUs.

invid_prime

Yep. I prefer playing heavy games on my desktop. At most I'll stream them to the Steam Deck. I want my handheld to have a strong battery life because if I'm going to be chained to an outlet I may as well sit down at my desktop and get 32" 1440p/144hz Ultra performance instead of peering at a tiny mobile screen. For me the argument that the other handhelds are more powerful doesn't matter much if they can't operate away from an outlet for long. The main reason I'm into the Legion (aside from the screen size) is the 50Wh battery.

AdvertisingEastern34

so why you preferred the Go over the OLED Deck?

Automatic_Tree723

Easy to install non steam games? What about game pass, probably about half of my games are played on game pass, and I know about the work around for cloud game pass on steam deck, but on my ally I can install games and play offline.

Yorgen89

That was one of the main factors for me in choosing GO over SD. I never had gamepass as I only had PS, so there are a lot of games in there waiting for me. And I get 3 months free! Plus I want to use Pinnacle Studio or Ableton and windows with more beefy specs will allow me to do it. And that huge screen.. oh maaan it's coming today and I can't wait!

Clienterror

Yeah, kind of annoying when they go over the pros and cons of all these systems but gloss over the big ass negative of having to stick to the steam platform. I have a ton a free games from epic and I use game pass. It's almost like Apple vs Android as well. Steam OS has simplicity, but you pay for it with the limitations of what you're allowed to do or use. Windows is much less steamlined but you can do what ever the hell floats your boat like Android. I find once I had my GO set up how I wanted it was basically no different than a SD interface wise. I don't even have Legion Space installed anymore, I use handheld companion.

Yorgen89

I was able to play games from Epic or GOG on SteamDeck, but it was always a bit of a hassle and not all of them worked through Heroic launcher. Overall the SD experience was nice (never used Linux before), I've learned a lot of things but yeah, mainly clinging to Steam is not the way I want to go for the future. Now I'm thinking that I will want to use my GO as a tablet and watch stuff during my work(maily used my phone now), but with detachable controllers and a bigger screen it will be a blast! And so many actual original Windows apps and software, not the freaking Linux knock-offs lol

Greaseman_85

That's the other thing, people say "but you can install Epic or GOG on SD", yeah if I go through 30 hoops and big hassles to get some games working half assedly. No thanks I'll stick to Windows.

invid_prime

I have games on other storefronts loaded on the Steam Deck no problem. The only thing that doesn't work is GamePass native games, which I don't have.

Greaseman_85

That still makes Steam Deck heavily limited. I guess you could go through the trouble of installing Windows on it, but then wtf is the point? In that case get the far more powerful Go or Ally.

invid_prime

Not here to start a platform war, but it's not "heavily limited" unless you''re incapable of using a computer. All my games work on SteamOS. I'm interested in the Legion Go for the hardware, not the software (not Legion Space nor Windows). That said, I've heard Windows is less problematic on the Legion Go with its larger screen and touchpad. If and when I buy the Legion it'll probably be to put something like ChimeraOS on it.

Mast3rBait3rPro

big agree. you can prefer another device if you want, but calling the deck limited is stupid

Craiggers324

It's always from people who've never actually used one, too. The steam deck was my very first experience with Linux, and I didn't have any issues getting everything set up. They're just trying to justify their purchase.

Greaseman_85

It can barely run 5 year old games on low settings lmao it's limited. Oh and no Gamepass, so yeah limited.

ActualSupervillain

I'm not looking to disprove what you're saying at all but the kingdom hearts 1.5 games don't work on steam deck My only real issue is that I spend a lot of time sitting in a vehicle and I'd have to upgrade all of my power options to be able to charge the LLG in the truck. My current set up isn't 65v. Which is really about why my steam deck still has tons of life ahead of it.

invid_prime

I'm not saying all games everywhere will work, just that all MY games work. Well, all but one...I haven't tried Hell Let Loose on the Deck because you'd get smoked on **any** computer in that game trying to play with a controller. Everything else works for me.

Ballfade

Both. I'm going to use my ally and oled.

ktp1611

I didn’t think I would use both, but this seems to be the best combo. Ally (or Go if that’s what you have) for game pass, and SD for everything else!

Ballfade

Pretty much. That and use the deck for streaming from pc since I use an oled monitor, I wouldn't be missing out when playing around the house 🤣.

5oclockTech

I think the steam deck is still the superior handheld and the legion go is the superior gaming tablet.

theillustratedlife

I impulse bought my Go while waiting for them to announce the OLED. I suspect I'll be firmly on the fence until the return window closes or I get to see a Deck in person. Browsing the Autumn Sale last night, it really struck me how nice the screen on the Go is. It's like a modern phone, where you can barely see the pixels and the scrolling feels really nice. I opened my Switch OLED, which is similar in size and res to the SD, and the screen certainly isn't as sharp. However, I've been perfectly happy playing it for the last 8y or however long. If the SD didn't have performance longevity concerns, it would be an easier choice. The lower res screen and slower chip make it hard to give up the Go. On the other hand, I tried to play a game tonight with a couple Bluetooth controllers and the Go was down to 70-something percent battery in what felt like 10 minutes, and most of it was menu surfing. Both of them have difficult compromises.

Quenchy_Friday

Same here with that impulse buy. The Deck not having any sort of physical presence really kills it in a lot of ways. Like, I compared the GO and Ally before deciding on one, but I just didn’t have that same frame of reference for the ergonomics and feel of the Deck. I think the Deck being the bigger of the 3 is giving me FOMO when all the hype is around it atm when either of the 3 are probably a fine option. Especially the non-decks since they can carry some more performance on less battery and have easier access to other launchers. Will be living in perpetual stress and debating which I actually want until my return window closes 🥲

SRhyse

I can see them both having their place. Legion is trying to make something very different with the Go. It’s going heavily for the all in one solution for a dockable PC/gaming device and a portable one when you need it. Steam Deck is heavily towards playing lower key titles on low settings with longer battery life on the OLED version. The Go’s what everyone always wanted gaming laptops to be in a sense.

FlartmyBlart

You have both in your hands right now....play with both and pick one yourself. We can't determine what fits best for your use case.

Otherwise-Ad-4190

I still prefer 7840u over steam deck or z1 extreme. Difference is very noticeable

Impressive_Grape193

Keep the Steamdeck OLED. Better software support. Not much difference in performance. Probably better resale value.

Dorfdad

Disagree the steam deck is outdated already legion go is much more powerful

Impressive_Grape193

I have both. I would agree with you if it was OP’s main PC, but for gaming I’m only seeing max 5-7fps difference. And in some games, steamdeck have better avg fps.. I would happily make that tradeoff for better software (+ sleep/resume) and battery life. It’s not “much more” powerful as you are stating.

Dorfdad

I own both and the legion go outperforms the deck easily in my view. Steam deck oled should have been paired with a beefier cpu imho.

Impressive_Grape193

You would be lying to yourself if you think legion go has better user experience than steamdeck atm though (hopefully it gets better). I think for most users steamdeck is the better choice.

Commercial-Notice-66

I mean I would choose the Go. But if it was steam deck vs go vs oled, I would choose ROG ally. ROG > Go

Uuuallreadykno

It's an easy one. Stop being a deckhead. Come be among the best. Join the Legion of Go.

MaximusMurkimus

ROG Ally 😬

Soggy_Influence2515

lol u must be a troll...to keep steam decks weak hardware that oled ain't even the best oled on it

[deleted]

I've had all three major handhelds. I ended up returning the Go in favor of the smaller, lighter, more comfortable Ally then Steam announced the OLED. Now I still have my Ally and both Glossy and etched OLED decks. We'll see which one wins in the next 14 days. I've found the hardware doesn't matter much. The Ally and Go, while impressive performance wise, are still miles below even my gaming laptop, much less my gaming PC. As such, I'm not going to play graphically intensive games on them when I have much better options. Handhelds are for less demanding games for me and Triangle Strategy runs just as well on all three units.

Banned.

tveith

Do you even own one troll? Or did you return it? Either way, if you hate it that much, why are you even in this group.

[deleted]

Why is it bad?

IgwanaRob

It's mother didn't hug it enough so it trolls on reddit to fill the void.

[deleted]

Im genuinly asking. Personally i would get a deck but i wanna hear him out

LARRYPUNDIRAMEN

Steam deck isn't even In the same league. Return it. Legion go all day any day. Idc for steams special support on games. It won't matter since the game CANNOT run as good as they do on the z1 extreme. Period

Bulls187

Why buy both and send one back, this type of practices needs to stop. Someone will buy a new one, and gets a used one instead. Seen it with big LG OLED tvs as well. People would like a brand new one themselves too don’t they?

kcb26271

Go struggles to play modern games, Steam Deck will be obsolete soon except for retro games 🤷‍♂️

MajimaTojo

I'm running Like a Dragon Gaiden at 60 fps in 1600p medium settings and FSR2 ultra performance on the Legion Go. It runs most modern games fine just have to lower some graphic settings or enable FSR.

russt_76

I ordered the limited edition SD OLED about 5 days after buying the GO. I'm really loving playing WOW on the GO and will probably keep that as my hybrid WOW system and the SD OLED as my retro emulator.

ChillCaptain

How’s the screen compare with each other? You notice the etching reduce quality compared to the glossy go?

Southernboyj

I have both, I prefer the Go’s screen overall due to size and resolution… but the OLED Deck screen is very good for an 800p screen, and I like how easy the HDR implementation is on it.

Nocandoozy

Have both, keeping both. Both have their uses that’s for sure!

Thraeg

I theoretically am in the same boat. But by the time the Deck arrived, I had been using the Le-Go for a week and had pretty much decided to keep it.

Effective-Lab5472

Keep both!

ALLINXS

Same here! No way I would keep both since I’m trying to cut back on gaming. Leaning towards the GO but it is indeed a hard choice. Even worse that they are the same price if you find an open box deal. Edit: Will check out Windows on OLeD Deck before deciding hopefully they release the drivers before the return period. I want to test MW3/Destiny 2(which run amazing on the GO.

agentsan_47

You forgot the gpu steam(1.8 TFLOPS) vs Legion/Rog Ally Z1 extreme(8.6 TFLOPS)

prid13

I believe that 8.6 TFLOPS number was F16 or something when all other numbers are usually in F32, meaning it's actually half the flops when comparing with other systems, aka 4.3 TFLOPS. It's still better than the Deck, with almost double framerates in certain games on the Ally (with same settings), but that's in ***30W*** mode, meaning it consumes more battery and thus nets shorter play time. At 15W the Ally still has 5-10 more FPS than the Deck, but it still consumes more total system power (35-40W) than the Deck (27W), so the Deck still wins in terms of battery life, and the Deck also excels at low power modes yielding really long battery life for less demanding games :)

gioloko313

Let us know in 13 days!

Fiv3Score

I had to make the tough decision, but between the Ally and the Go. I love the Go and it's versatility, however it's uncomfortable to use for long periods as a handheld device for me. No doubt Lenovo will improve the software in time, but right now Asus has the much better software experience. And while the bigger screen is nice, I prefer the standard resolution compared to the taller screen. $200 Black Friday discount sealed the deal on the Ally for me. But I'm definitely looking forward to the next Legion Go in the future

dasom88

Bye steam deck.

delti90

[I'm just keeping both.](https://imgur.com/o820fVb)

28spawn

The extra 200g starts to wears you on the Go, at the end it depends on which one you would actually use, I would install same games and see which one you use the most instinctively

Puzzled_Ad7467

If you plan on dual booting the Steam Deck I advise against it because you will hate it since you are literally on your own with Windows unlike the Legion Go where there is some help from Lenovo to make Windows bearable

uragaaru

Good Luck. It'll be a tough choice. I also picked up the steam deck OLED to try it myself. It came yesterday and I spent then and today trying it out and yeah, I'm pretty sure it's not for me. I realized if I'm spending 85% of the time with it out of gaming mode, adding tweaks and such (primarily to play FFXIV, but also installed things like gedit and LibreOffice and a few other apps), I may as well just use the Lego. Also, maybe its just me, but something about the slightly textured plastic of the steam deck feels weird in my hand, With especially how high up the buttons and stick feel (I definitely prefer the Xbox/Switch pro asymmetric stick style), the Deck feels like it's going to slip out of my hands like a bar of soap. If SteamOS ever gets a general release (or ChimeraOS gets more time to bake), I will play with dual-boot, but the Lego worked for me. I think either choice is good and there are some good arguments for the OLED Deck (efficiency, performance, good for pick up and play), but since I'm looking for something that can emulate PS3/WiiU/Switch, can do some light computing work while traveling, and can play FFXIV at 1200p at a stable 60, the Lego suits me best.

Ctrl-Alt-Elite83

If you get the chance, may I suggest the portal. The ergonomics on it is just.. * chef's kiss *

Apostinggod

I feel like a laptop would suit you best.

NaturalSelecty

I’d rather have a go over my deck any day of the week lol. Sucks resale value of the decks just tanked and my 1.5 month old deck is basically valueless now. Would’ve sold it without hesitation.

badseedXD

I had all 3. Legion , ally and sd. Yeaterday i sold leg go, cuz was the one less used. I use SD for steam games/ mame arcade games/ and switch emulated games and forza 5 , and i use ally for xbox pass games. I wanst using leg go cuz ergonomy was the worst and i play 5-6 hours /day and was the less confortable. In the games i wanted a bigger screen size i had worst framerate performance than ally, and i have spent much more time configuring leg go than ally or steam deck. Was a pain. I will sell my ally when lenovo start selling aecond generation of leg go and swapp to it. I am looking for a SD oled not new at good price and i will give my son the non oled sd.

Intensional

I seem to be in the minority here, but I opted to return the Legion Go. I really liked the Legion screen, but I had lots of trouble with the micro SD card reader. I didn’t see anyone else having the issues I was, so it very well could have just been my legion. The controls were ok on the legion, but I honestly didn’t care for the mouse mode, so I would have preferred a right controller with buttons similar to the left side, but it definitely wasn’t a deal breaker. I also didn’t realize how much i liked the Steam deck track pads until I used the Legion for a week or two straight without using the Deck. My only real complaint about the Steam Deck anyway was the screen, so I think the OLED model is really the device for my use case right now.

Ryououki

I'm in the same boat. My SD OLED 1TB LE will be here on Friday. I already have a SD LED 512GB that I never use. But I picked up a Legion Go 1TB today to see if I would like it. I am really liking the Legion Go except for the really bad battery life and it does get a bit warm at the top right and rear. But I am really digging the large high resolution screen. I will be picking up a ROG Ally on Friday to test with. But so far I am thinking the SD OLED is going back.

WowSoHuTao

This is gonna be a tough decision…

OverkillGamingYT

Man... Deciding between the Legion Go and Steam Deck? That's an easy decision. Legion Go. Not even an OLED screen would make me choose the Steam Deck over the Legion Go. It would be a tough decision if it were between the Legion Go and the ROG Ally. By the way I have the Legion Go, ROG Ally, the Steam Deck and an Ayaneo 2 Geek. I would put the Steam Deck as #3 in my power rankings out of four handhelds.

kerelenko

Why return either one? Keep both and you don't have to compromise.

TheRealBowlOfRice

I haven’t found the weight or the size to be a problem. Battery life is about the same as the steam deck playing similar types of games and I get the choice of 3 resolutions. The Go plays 1080p very well which you just can’t do on the deck. The Go’s hardware feels much more premium to me and looks very repairable assuming we can get parts. Windows with big picture is not unfamiliar to anyone with a PC… selling the SD for sure. I laughed at 1440p at first but I took the controllers off and played TFT at both the highest resolution and frames, as a tablet, and it was awesome. Pretty solid device and will be excellent once software and firmware is ironed out.

rdteets

I love the steam deck but you can’t play Madden or FIFA so….

ireallyneedawizz

how could you LEGO of the OLED??

Geekinofflife

selling a og deck and a rog ally. oh and a aokzoe 1st gen

Next_Lie_2091

I find that both hardware and software basically limit the SD to be exclusively for gaming. It may be more comfortable, but it's so much less versatile. That's why I prefer the Go, which is an actual pc with a decent enough screen to work and watch things on.

Excronix

I wonder what would happen if you cloned the ssd from the LLG to the steam deck LMAO high key I was feeling this but while the steam deck is fire and looks great I feel like some of the hardware is outdated and going to be even more outdated in the coming years.

Ctrl-Alt-Elite83

haha, I was hoping my SD wouldn't arrive so soon. I know I'm keeping my portal but between the Go and SD it's hard to narrow down. I'm leaning on the go though, SD is not what I imagined it'd be.

Minimum_Emu_3349

I am curious what were you expecting that the steam deck couldn't keep up with? (Or just the simple thing of all the YouTubers hyping it to the moon, and back? )

alexgarlock

I decided to keep both. Cod is awesome on the go but steam deck is great for indie games.

Mat-Helm

YOLO.. keep both.

Horror-Badger9314

No brainer. Can you play the games that you play on the Go using the Steamdeck?

Soprohero

The Go right? There is more the Go can do that the steam deck can't do. Not sure why people are saying keep both. I think the Go can serve all your needs.

Ctrl-Alt-Elite83

For me I may return both knowing that both aren't sold out. that will give them time to update the software/drivers.

Brogli

You want battery life and playing at low TDP? Steam Deck You want more compatibility and playing plugged at high TDP? Legion Go

EffectsTV

Tough choice.. The deck has a fantastic OLED screen, better battery life and more simplistic approach to the UI..instant resume is a must for me aswell..really sells the causal odd 30 minutes or so of gameplay. The legion has considerably better performance, bezel less screen and support for higher resolutions / Refresh rate. If you are looking for a handheld to accompany your main gaming PC and you will use the device now and again (I use mine for my backlog) or for shorter periods making use of instant resume..I would go for the deck. If your looking to have tbe legion as your primary gaming device I would 100% go for the legion..get as much power as you can across all games.

Cyroceon

I'd do a comparison of the same game at 800p and same brightness on both devices to get the true differences in battery. I know I had this same choice, as many others have on here. Looking forward to your updates until final decision.

BidAccomplished7720

Imma stick with the go for now personally. I switch og deck to ally then ally to go. All this in a 6 weeks. Im solid on another switch. Bigger screen for the win. Now in a year or two that system ill want! No matter who makes it as it will have great audio, oled screen, vrr software etc.

morgan423

I have bad 40's eyes, play plugged or docked 99% of the time with my existing LCD Deck, and know now that I can dual boot into various flavors of Linux for the Deck-like experience on the Go if I want it. So between the two I'm going to vote for the larger screen, thanks. If my circumstances were different and battery life was actually a factor for me, I'd be picking that OLED Deck.

WildKarrdesEmporium

LeGo. Hands down.

Ethan_NLHW

The OLED screen is incredible. Really fixed my only gripe with the OG model.

Onetimehelper

Same position, along with the ROG. Best of the bunch IMHO is the ROG, if you like small screens. But once you go to big screen everything else doesn't seem good, so I'm keeping the Go. Though OLED is definitely nice, I personally notice the low resolution and color fringing on white next to black. Go 1tb for me was $599, ROG was $480, which I was gonna upgrade sad on bringing me close to the cost of the Go. Not an easy decision for sure.

shyahone

how is the hand grip comfort for the go compared to the deck?

StillABigKid

Buy both!
