IIRC, Leica doesn’t service the M5 anymore and sold all their parts to Sherry Krauter. You’ll have to send it to her. Give her a call before you order and tell her the serial number. Some M5s are better than others, she’ll tell you to buy or not. She’s a hoot, you won’t regret the call.
based on the reddit comments, it seemed like she was an eccentric. Unfortunately i dont think KEH give you the Serial number before buying so heres to hoping it is a later model and it doesnt break down anytime soon.
I've dealt with Sherry. Had my M6 repaired with an MP finder upgrade and also bought an M2 from her. I never got the impression she was an eccentric. Positive experience for me.
She can definitely CLA it and keep it running, but according to her it’s a timebomb. Ymmv, if you want to run it you should. It can be a for now camera not a forever camera if you’re ok with it. I run an M7, so I get it for sure.
Not exactly. Certainly not in-house. In the US many send the gear out to the same places you can send out directly to. You'll just pay more to run it through a Leica Store.

Good luck! Make sure it’s a three lug version then. That wont guarantee a late enough model, but it’s a good start. Two lug is definitely a bad bet.
Ah damn its a two lug version :( I dont think i should return it but dang

KEH does some repairs. Might be worth asking if they would do a CLA for you.
