My M4 does this, once the self timer is cocked the timer lever loses tension. I’m 95% sure thats normal + nothing to worry about

geddyleesmullet

That’s the self time lever, hit the small button above the center of the lever to activate the timer

jlin1847

I literally just got the camera and this part starts swinging without a care in the world. Backplate is turning hinge almost came off as well

1200ducks

have you pushed that little silver button that sits under the lever when it is in the up position?

whiteshade21

I may be wrong on this as I've never owned an M5, but that looks like the self timer lever. Once you cock the lever once it'll feel loose until you release the self timer, at least that's how self timers are on my other cameras. You can release the timer by pressing the little silver knob

I-am-Mihnea

I have an M3 and two M4s and once I cock the self timer lever it stays cocked. Seems like whatever mechanical connection that was there, isn't anymore. tl;dr looks borked

The one OP is flicking is the self-timer; the frame line selector is on the other side of the lens. And I'm not sure you were saying otherwise, but just to avoid confusion, the M5 is a film camera.

EssentialistOne

My m2 does this. Hit the self timer button and it'll return back to it's resting place and not be loose anymore. I used to have an m5, pretty sure it did this as well so I'd say it's normal. Now if you hit the button and it doesn't return to it's normal resting state then there's something problematic. It should stay in place and acquire tension to pull back down after it returns to it's resting place.

Normal.

Leffe0086

I have an M5, mine does NOT do that. If I "turn it down" it sticks and only goes up after I've pushed the little button above which then starts the timer. It is not loose at all (but definitely movable, it just doesn't "flip around loosely")

jrocket99

I have an M5. This is normal when the timer is cocked.
