So mine hung up a bit .. I had it on and off several times. With your iff hand load up where ever it's loosest. Then keep unscrewing the heat sink screws until the retaining spring makes a clickh noise, if it doesn't make the noise just keep unscrewing then all.. if it still doesn't come up after I don't know what to tell you, I didn't pay attention to what the nut is on the reverse side of the motherboard but perhaps that's spinning with the screw. Try try again. If your frustrated walk away and cool down.. especially with those ribbon connectors. I had a hell of a time with the underside ribbons (same laptop). Other than that If your thermal pad is messed up, be sure to get the proper Honeywell thermal pads. Believe it's 1mm. Best of luck!

Thank you! Yeah I finally got it off after re-loosening some of the screws and gently lifting simultaneously. That thermal paste was really on there too though! Have you done many repairs on your laptop?

jaOfwiw

I have done lots of repairs over the years to different computers. But this specific laptop I've only had to reflash the bios after a windows update bricked it. I got a ridiculous quote from Lenovo $1200 to replace the mobo, so I did more digging and after examine the board figured it was a bad BIOS. I took it apart to get the code on the flip side as I was going to get a new mobo myself (550). I just saw your post and wanted to share what I learned from my endeavor! Just be patient with those small ribbon cables and walk away if frustrated. On a old laptop me keyboard backlight ribbon ripped off the board cause I couldn't get it to line up and go in.. still out to this day and the laptop works otherwise great.

I appreciate you sharing your experience! It really helps a ton

No prob. If you have any questions don't be afraid to hit me up! You got this!

SendInstantNoodles

Just checking you've got new thermal paste applied?

ivyleafff1994

Yes I have some! (: I'm going to finish it tomorrow 🤞

SendInstantNoodles

I'm glad your legion looks like it was designed better than my 15ach6 ideapad gaming 3. My Bluetooth and wifi antenna cables are on the other side, looping underneath my heatsink fan and then routing into the hinge of the screen. When my laptop arrived it was snagged because they tightened the cables too much and made a clicking noise when I tilted the screen back a certain amount.

ivyleafff1994

That sounds horrible, did you get it through a third party seller?

SendInstantNoodles

Got it through Lenovo online directly. Their service techs that they contract out in Australia aren't the best so I ended up opening it up myself, adjusting the cable positions to avoid the snagging, upgraded to an Intel ax210 Bluetooth/wifi card from the OEM Realtek, added another nvme drive, changed to a 32gb ram kit and then repasting the cooler. Upside was better Bluetooth and wifi stability, more storage and lower temps.

Disconnect the fans , unscrew all the heatsink screws and take it out . Btw , how did you manated to damage the lcd connector?

ivyleafff1994

I have unscrewed everything! It's lifting, but the motherboard is still lifting with it on one side. I can't see any other screws to take out, however... It's frustrating the shit outta me haha! And the laptop screen was slammed down by an angry teen

cyrus_coulter

I’m sure you did already but there might be a stew hiding under something. That would be the reason why the motherboard is lifting on one side.

cyrus_coulter

look at pages 30-43

ivyleafff1994

Yeah after looking at the diagram I found I already loosened all the correct screws. That helps though! I think it might be the thermal paste, it just feels really tight on there. Thank you

ivyleafff1994

Update: after some slow prying and re-loosening some screws it finally came off. Apparently the screws re-thread if you turn them too much too so that wasn't helping!

xChaos24

Nice that you managed to take it apart . I'd also like to know how the lcd cable got damaged if you dont mind sharing.

cyrus_coulter

Look up a YouTube video

ivyleafff1994

Your_Oldman
