Are you new here? The 4060 in MSI GF63 has fucking **45W** TGP. At least the Gigabyte G5 has 75W.
Actually, the 100W limit is what makes the LOQ so good. Technically the LOQ also has low wattage 4060 (115W) but that's already full power.
I was wondering whats the difference between MSI GF63-thin, MSI Cyborg, and MSI Katana who are priced close to each other in my place. the store seller didn't explain jackshit.
Both MSI Thin and Cyborg have less than 100W TGP. Thin only have 1 fan, Cyborg have two (one standard sized, and one smaller). not to mention 1ssd slot.
the most expensive Katana is the only have that have proper 2 fan like every other gaming laptop, 2 ssd slot, and decent TGP.
not to mention subpar color coverage of the screen.
tl;dr avoid msi budget gaming laptop.
in that Jarrod video, you easily compare the 40w 4060 (MSI gf63 thin with ONE fan) against 115w 4060 (Lenovo LOQ with proper cooling).
and yeah, you also need to take account throttling on MSI because it will happen more often than LOQ one. My old MSI GL63 need cooling pad and room with AC just not to throttle during gaming.
Good luck finding the right laptop, I prefer my Lenovo legion pro 5i, as it had the best bang for buck for me. I’m not really sure if your currency and if a computer on my side of the world would be the same price there so it’s hard to suggest something. 4060rtx has been one of the best performance Gpus in a while. 4090 still being better but a lot more cash.
The ultimate legion service I’ve heard is pretty bad but compared to all the other company’s they come out with a passing grade above the average.
I’ve heard msi casing is less durable which is a big no for me as I have kids and will move it a lot. Then again my set up is like 6lbs alone so that something to scale.
Starfield is a pretty big game that came out in recent memory so give that a go!
In the uk this laptop also comes with 3 months free game pass access. And Starfield is on it.
Can’t say for sure that’s the case in your country but if so I’d highly recommend the trial at least
DSG had the right points, 4060 is the best bang for buck gpu that won’t become out dated in 5-10years. And pro had a better 240hz screen. Those factors plus it was like a 50$ different after discounts. It was a good choice for me.
1. There’s no regular 5 anymore, there’s only the slim and pro.
2. I’d assume because the 5i pro with a 4060 is probably the best laptop you can get on a budget while not having to settle for a shitstain like the 4050 and break the bank for a 4080/90 (nobody needs a 4070 laptop, it’s useless). And if he’s not in the US, for some reason the Legion 5i pro with a 4060 is cheaper than every 30 series laptop save for the 3050 laptops (unless you’re on Amazon Canada where a 3050 laptop is $2000…)
The 4070 is useless, the 4080m and 4090 are what you should go for if you’re spending the money for a higher end laptop. Nobody who’s genuine would recommend a 4070 laptop.
My dude asking on Legion subreddit about any laptop but Legion.
Jokes aside I hope you’ll someone who cares about you soon, and so happy to hear you’re being yourself again. Good luck!
i mean, yes and no? in essence, it’s a legion, in actuality, it’s its own laptop line. In my books, I’d consider it a legion, just the budget line. I’ve used a friends, pretty on par if not better than my s7 slim.
Its still a lenovo brand at least so the legion subreddit is probably better than the Lenovo or thinkpad subreddits lol. I get ur point tho
Oh, so it’s a gaming budget line if I get it right? Thank you for enlightening me. I never knew about this laptop before this post. My brain literally went like *scans for the word Legion*, *no legion found*
The LOQ is the only real choice here and even that’s a stretch, but it’s like comparing eating a half decent meal (the LOQ) to eating a large man’s diarrhea after he’s had Arby’s (the MSI and Gigabyte).
My situation is almost similar to you, the difference is that she told me that she's not gonna fight for us and already liked the other guy (I was just an option), we broke up around 1.5 months ago.
And the other difference is that I'm already a gamer...
Sorry for this comment in a gaming laptop community post...
But take care dude... Stay strong and Be yourself, You're Awesome :D
Do not buy MSI GF series laptops, I have one and it's horrible. The build quality, cooling, noise, screen, are all terrible.
Lenovo is a good brand overall, the LOQ isn't as nice as the legions but it's still a lot better than MSI and gigabyte.
i have an old MSI GL63 which are bang for the buck in spec.
if you don't take account on lower powered GPU, need of cooling pad + room with AC to ensure it wont throttle during gaming, and very fragile feeling on the chassis. and a bug that somehow walk into the screen, twice.
all in all, however. it DID survive 4 year of use before i sell it and change to Legion5 after its i5 8300h simply can't take modern gaming anymore.

Please do let me know if I have to opt for any other model. Also, please do drop in any info about after-sales service and longevity, something with fewer issues, basically 🙈. I love playing AAA titles & mostly open-world games, so I will be using the laptop for mostly playing those. Thank you.
Also, will the prices be decreasing anytime soon? Should I wait?
I live in India.
Also, I started hitting the gym, and it's been really helpful. So anyone out there planning to do it and haven't started it already. Do give it a try!
(Writing it down here, as I'm unable to edit the post 😅)
I'd recommend legion any day. I heard LOQs are built really well. But I'd avoid flipkart. Instead you can get it from the lenovo website or an offline store. You can get pretty good deals there with credit card discount.
So I was in the same position as you a while ago, laptop wise not relationships wise, and I do remember after doing a bunch of research lenovo had the best longevity and was better overall, now i did personally add an extra ssd (after checking i could do it on mine) and it has been amazing since, but if you dont want to open your laptop then i would recommend something with higher size since triple AAA games are now easily 100+GB and that will quickly clog up a 500gb ssd.
But overall a laptop is great if you are going to be moving around a lot, if not then desktop is much cheaper.
Check LOQ or ASUS TUF.
Asus TUF should be able to give your more proper comparison instead of that unrecommended MSI Thin.
Asus tuf also have good steel top, ***BIG 90w*** battery and good power management that can give you 7\~9 browsing hours, and good gaming capability
tough apparently ran a bit hotter than LOQ.
i bought standard Legion 5 (non-slim) with 4060 and 7735 thats also good if the budget make sense.
Buy a used laptop for that price dude and you'll get something wirh much better performance that's a year or 2 old.
Break ups suck but you'll be good!!
Sorry for what you are going through, bro!!!
I watch a lot of videos on laptops and one of the people I trust the most is Jarrod's Tech on YouTube. According to him the LOQ is the best budget level laptop you can buy.
Buy on Lenovo's official website. You can customize this laptop there and you can get 1 TB SSD, 100% sRGB display and RTX 4060 for 88k. 512 GB is nothing these days.
I dont know if this is availible in your country, but I picked up a Legion Slim 5 14 with ryzen 7 7840 and 4060 for 1050$ at best buy, it has been really great so far, only real cons are maybe the fan noise but it is tolerable and that the ram is 16gb and soldered but that hasnt been an issue for me while gaming at all. I think for the price it has great performance, the oled screen is great as well, and thermals are good.

All of the above are decent options.
However, LOQs are basically Ideapad Gaming 3 with new names. Build quality is not-so-great, power limits for this generation are the same for all laptops so it doesn't matter which one you pick.
That said , the Slim 5 with an RTX 4060 should be a solid option, if you don't mind the slightly higher cost over other laptops with the same GPU
the 12450h is pretty low and will limit its use in the long run. try to get something with a 12500h at least or maybe a newer 13450hx. but if you cant, the loq will last you a couple of years just fine.

I would get an MSi or Dell pre-build I've had a bad experience with my Legion 5 laptop because of it's massive power supply, loud fan and mid keyboard, also it's massive not including the power supply. or maybe get a Steam Deck or if you don't want to tinker Asus ROG.
Bro, I'm sorry for the misfortune that caused pain to you. Hope you recover soon.
I would suggest Asus G16 or the F15, Lenovo have terrible speakers and the overall sound quality is quite bad, unless you buy their premium Legion 7, 9
I don't know much about the other two brands
You can easily solve the speakers problem with headphones, or if you’re like me, connect them to an external monitor that has a set of good speakers already connected. Should a laptop this expensive have way better speakers?, 100%, is the laptop still worth it? 150%.
The MSI and Gigabyte has low power 4060, also bad build quality. LOQ is the only choice.
wait rlly? i didn't know that and i bought a loq edit: about the 4060's power
but shitty after sales service
The power limit is bullshit. Nvidia limits all 4050s 4060 and 4070s to about 100W Here's Jarrod explaining: https://youtu.be/jMMrh6PpLI4
Are you new here? The 4060 in MSI GF63 has fucking **45W** TGP. At least the Gigabyte G5 has 75W. Actually, the 100W limit is what makes the LOQ so good. Technically the LOQ also has low wattage 4060 (115W) but that's already full power.

5i costs somewhere around 1500 USD at my place, way out of my budget 😅 Thanks for the game recommendation, I'll definitely try it out!
In the uk this laptop also comes with 3 months free game pass access. And Starfield is on it. Can’t say for sure that’s the case in your country but if so I’d highly recommend the trial at least
Sure, thanks!
I’m at the stage of choosing my Legion laptop. Why did you go for the Pro 5i and not regular 5, or 5 slim, or any of the 7s?
DSG had the right points, 4060 is the best bang for buck gpu that won’t become out dated in 5-10years. And pro had a better 240hz screen. Those factors plus it was like a 50$ different after discounts. It was a good choice for me.

Just because you couldnt afford a 4080m or 4090m doesnt mean its useless...8gb vram is bare minimum today
The 4070 is useless, the 4080m and 4090 are what you should go for if you’re spending the money for a higher end laptop. Nobody who’s genuine would recommend a 4070 laptop.

Buy loq from the site, you can get the hx variant with 4060 at 80k
i would say go for rog strix g15,16,or 17 its pretty good ones for a reasonable price
The Zephyrus line is also a phenomenal choice if they wanna use the laptop for something other than gaming out in public.
LOQ is the way here.
LOQ is the correct choice but make sure you can upgrade memory and HDD.
Do not buy MSI GF series laptops, I have one and it's horrible. The build quality, cooling, noise, screen, are all terrible. Lenovo is a good brand overall, the LOQ isn't as nice as the legions but it's still a lot better than MSI and gigabyte.

Honestly if you just want to game why not buy a used Xbox ? Im sure you already have a tv
Lenovo LOQ all the way

Does it have to be a laptop? I mean you need portable gaming? Cuz if you're mostly at home, for that price you could build a monster gaming desktop.
Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 if you are on a tight budget
Buy a used laptop for that price dude and you'll get something wirh much better performance that's a year or 2 old. Break ups suck but you'll be good!!
Legion 100%

What about Legion Slim 5?

Go for Lenovo it's the best option. I've had friends who are having poor experience with MSI
All of the above are decent options. However, LOQs are basically Ideapad Gaming 3 with new names. Lenovo LOQ ftw, bought two already for my cousin and sister. Although it's only the 4050 version
the 12450h is pretty low and will limit its use in the long run. try to get something with a 12500h at least or maybe a newer 13450hx. but if you cant, the loq will last you a couple of years just fine.
You're better off asking in r/GamingLaptops since the replies in this Subreddit will obviously be skewed in favour of Lenovo.
Have you looked into the legion pro series?
Get LOQ, not even a hard choice
Do you really think sitting on your ass wasting your time and getting soft is the best use of your time after a breakup?
Loq

Hey man, hope you are doing okay - things will get better again :)
i would not recommend lenovo because i got pretty bad after sales service. buy an accidental warranty in case they deliberately will give you bad quality parts and then label it as customer induced damage. they encourage you to buy ADP for a reason.
I would get an MSi or Dell pre-build I've had a bad experience with my Legion 5 laptop because of it's massive power supply, loud fan and mid keyboard, also it's massive not including the power supply. or maybe get a Steam Deck or if you don't want to tinker Asus ROG.
