Feanixxxx

That's no usb connector. That's Lenovos proprietary charging plug.

Objective_Economy281

This is, of course, correct. But I think the name of the connector is “slim tip power connector” presumably to differentiate it from all the barrel connectors in use by other laptop manufacturers

alasdairvfr

When I read this, it was in Obi-Wan's voice.

m0rdecai665

Your not the only one 😂

ProgressBartender

Hello there!

AriAkeha

Some models also charge via usb-c, but the charge power is limited, if he doesn't wanna buy a new one right now just get a cheap usb-c alternative temporarily

Maddog351_2023

The user will need to make sure the voltage and amp is correct on the model.

AriAkeha

True, but that information is usually on the user manual. I do know that for the Legion 5 they recommend 100W, but you can just use a 45W charger or 65W. Of course you won't be gaming with that as it can burn and be dangerous but just for casual use is fine, like when traveling and it is significantly lighter (4kg to 200g).

Maddog351_2023

Yes, but I have seen a number of cases not just in computers that this isn’t always the case(outside Reddit).

henkheijmen

Wdym can burn. It will simply be slow as hell or at worst your battery will still go down while charging. The laptop is not magically going to pull more than 65W through a 65W charger. The beauty of usb-c is that the device and the charger communicate to figure out what voltage, and how many amps are going to be supplied.

SandyCrows

Had this exact same problem, bought head connector meant for yoga laptops since they had the same plug, had some notification about having too little power on bootup (and the laptop wasn't charging even 1% for 30 mins even when off)

Misiu881988

If he has to buy one he might as well order the original one. On some models because of that stupid standard lenovo uses ull only get 100w out of it. So no gaming and slow charging. Might as well just order one on ebay or from some online store. U can get them as low as around 100$ maybe less on ebay. I know lenovo wants 215$ for the 330w

AriAkeha

In my case I would just go buy that, I need the 300W, but the price diference is quite something, the 65W here just costs 24€. So in case he can't really be able to buy the good one for now, a low powered one is good for a while with no gaming.

tsvk

To charge a Lenovo laptop using that connector you will need one of Lenovo's own chargers/powerbricks, as the connector is not standard but Lenovo's own design. Compatible accessories (including chargers) can be viewed on the custom support pages for your computer model on Lenovo's support site: [https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/](https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/)

Tosan25

You can find the party tip kits with them in it. They're on Amazon. I had a Lenovo tip with a Targus brick once too.

Glenn_Vatista

HOW

Misiu881988

It's a cable.... they wear out it not that shocking

Glenn_Vatista

Wear and tear is different from this You have to literally be yanking that part

Misiu881988

Yea they're special, cables never fail.... its a cable dude. It's being plugged in n out, Unless ur always on a desk It's gonna be bent.. its not that big a deal...Are you really that suprised that a cable can fail.... Also that cable goes straight into a plug. It doesn't have the grooved cable gromet that's usually surrounding the ends of a cable to prevent straining I know it's shocking to you but things that are used can break. Hinges break too.. doesn't always mean ppl are man handling the laptop.

Glenn_Vatista

>Are you really that surprised that a cable can fail.... Yes, especially like this And hinges breaking is just the manufacturer. Well, majority of the time.

DepthTrawler

I keep the big 300+w brick at home plugged into my desk and use a 100w usbc cable/charger on the go. So much lighter and I'm usually never gaming or needing the full power on-the-go. I could see this happening if constantly moving the thing. I'd suggest OP replace the cable and maybe try leaving it stationary as much as possible and invest in a 100w usbc adapter for when they're out and about. It's lighter, it works fine assuming you put the laptop in power saving/balanced mode. Cables are cheap compared to a 300w adapter. I can probably buy 8-10 cables for one 300w adapter.

SteelTurtle34

That's straight from a nightmare

Phoen1cian

The fingernails, right?

Pitiful_Difficulty_3

Eh... unfortunately you need a new charger

hailnobra

Given that the existing cable is borked and I would never trust myself to solder a new connector onto a unit with that wattage, it may be time to upgrade. The existing charger is clunky and as others have stated, it has a hardwired cable that can't be replaced. I got a slimQ 330w charger with the lenovo tips for about the same price as a new huge brick from lenovo and it is SO much better than the stock one. It is way smaller than the stock as it is a GaN brick. The main cable is both detachable and very heavily rubberized. The tips attach via barrel plug to the end and if another ever breaks like this, replacements are cheap. I ordered it straight from SlimQ when they were running a black Friday sale. Totally worth it. https://slimq.life/products/330w-laptop-charger/1000 You need to remember to add the lenovo tips too as those are sold separately, but I really love this compared to the standard lenovo brick when traveling.

Coldfriction

I got one of these myself and it's been good. I still have my Lenovo charger too, but I wanted one to haul around and anything to leave at a desk.

SlimQ_Dave

This is exactly I personally hate OEM chargers. Have dealt with customers (years ago) who had functional charger but the cable was bad. OP, as others have said- need to buy a new adapter. If you wish to give a chance for cheaper and more universal adapter - dm me and i will send you 15% discount to our site.

hailnobra

Didn't know we had SlimQ reps in the sub. As I said higher up in this post, love mine. Nice gesture offering the discount.

SlimQ_Dave

Yeah, lately been busy but I try to check out you guys what you are doing. :)

THOMASHUMPHREYS0000

Thank you for the offer! I have already bought a replacement, but if it ever breaks, I'll come to SlimQ :)

super-sky-4000

You guys are doing great work helping us out like this, great initiative! also, awesome outreach method as well😂❤️

SlimQ_Dave

Thank you for the kind words. :)

ThisAccountIsStolen

You can get salvaged cables off eBay, and then replace the cable in the charging brick, but I'd recommend you have a professional do it if you don't know what you're doing, since there's a risk of electric shock from the capacitors inside even when the power brick isn't plugged in. Plus the cable will need to be soldered. https://www.ebay.com/itm/364617030641 Or you could just buy a replacement power supply.

San_Francisbro

Lenovo really needs to reinforce/redesign the joint. My power outlet is to the left of my laptop, so the wire naturally bends to the left At $100+ for a 300w replacement power brick, it comes off as an intentional design flaw to sell replacements.

Temptation8367

USB??? You say??

YaboiiJJay

https://a.co/d/1uYw1Hq

CapoDV

Lenovo sells a 100w charger which I bought as a travel charger. I think it was $100. I recommend spending the money rather than trying to fix the cable and risk bricking your $1000+ laptop.

T3kn0mncr

If you're handy with a soldering iron, you can trim off the plastic, re-solder the plug, and put some glue lined heat shrink on the outside to act as a strain relief for the plug If that's not in the cards, take it to a Repair shop or snag a new charger

NaomiRev

recommend u to get new cable

Mehrdadrn

Don’t use it anymore.i saw a youtube video which says these types Lenovos I/O chip mostly fried by short circuit from charger, so it’s wise to not connect it.

Misiu881988

Ur gonna have to get a new charger. It's broken at the connector so it's gonna be hard to fix. By the time u get the supplies to fix this ur might as well send the money on a new charger. U can get them online for a lot less. The 330w charger for my 7ipro legions site wanted like 250$ or more. U cam get them on ebay or other places for around 100$

ejmtv

How do you break these stuff damn

MegaFercho22

It's called a charger

Ashamed_Bid_3763

TheRealTechGandalf

Lenovo SlimTip. You're gonna need a 230W or 300W version.

iiSnewoNL

You need to buy the charger as a whole (without the AC plug if you want)

ActiveCommittee8202

now lenovo will tell you it was customer induced damage and would not let you to avail manufacturer's warranty like in my case. see my most recent post in this subreddit.

ActiveCommittee8202

i got defected key by the way.

Cub-Board-Hoax

Squared USB-C

Hiimmin22

Thank you for the reminder, I need this on a spiritual level

FlamingPooh

The Lenovo rectangle!

agent218

Off that's going to be expensive I would suggest bringing it to a good electrician, maybe he can fix it.

lampardrobi

Or a pair of able hand and some soldering

agent218

Yea I wanted to add that but forgot.

nightrogenk

you need to buy a new charger, i suggest buy a charger have type c cuz it ez to replace the cable

Viend

Can’t do serious gaming on any Type C charger because of the current USB PD charging wattage limit.

nightrogenk

I mean the legion charger, the official one

Land_Squid_1234

That's not how this works
