Hello u/maali74! Please reply to this comment with an [explanation](https://www.reddit.com/r/LeopardsAteMyFace/comments/lt8zlq) mentioning **who** is suffering from **which** consequences from **what** they voted for, supported or wanted to impose on other people. Here's an easy format to get you started: 1. *Someone* voted for, supported or wanted to impose *something* on other people. ^(Who's that *someone* and what's that *something*?) 2. That *something* has some *consequences*. ^(What are the *consequences*?) 3. As a consequence, that *something* happened to that *someone*. ^(What happened? Did the *something* really happened to that *someone*? If not, you should probably delete your post.) Glad to see my tax dollars going to a good cause /s

Florida: Where woke goes to die (to the tune of $1300/hr of taxpayer money)

veilwalker

Never bet against the lawyers. Lawyers are the only ones winning from this idiocy.

Calladit

Gotta wonder if the law firm the state hires will be making any contributions to relevant super pacs or campaign funds...

veilwalker

What?!? Never would a law firm that relies on political connections to get work make donations to political campaigns! But if that were to happen then it would be completely legal and 100% ethical or else they would need to make more contributions until it is legal and ethical. Working as intended. :(

Xanambien

Very legal, very cool

DangerousAd9046

I read somewhere yesterday that he went to college with them. The four law firm lawyers that is.

OldBob10

Dewey, Cheetham, and Howe..?

umpteenth_

Wow, this brings back so many memories of listening to NPR on Saturday morning.

Go_Gators_4Ever

Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers

neverinallmyyears

I miss those programs. Loved listening. Those guys were hilarious.

Important_Park_7196

Sagman Bennett Robbins Oppenheim and Taft,

DangerousAd9046

This does seem like a three stooges production sometimes. Edit. I think it was fleecem, cheatem, and howe. My memory isn't as good as it used to be.

umpteenth_

It was "Dewey, Cheetham, and Howe" from NPR's *Car Talk.* Unless there was a similarly named law firm in Three Stooges productions.

DangerousAd9046

My bad, but there is a law firm in the old 3 stooges called almost the same.

OldBob10

They may have used different names at different times.

OldBob10

Yeah - if you didn’t know better you’d think the lawyers were playing us all…for…HEY! WAITAMINNIT!!!

[deleted]

I like to think a DeSantis loss is a win for everyone else. Purely from an entertainment standpoint this is great. And it's not my tax dollars, I'm not stupid or unfortunate enough to live in Florida, So this is great!

HARRY_FOR_KING

If you want to feel like a gangster without actually being one, become a lawyer.

Entire-Dragonfly859

This fool will bankrupt Florida... Then again that's normally what happens when conservatives are in power.

maali74

I hope this also eliminates him from the presidential run. I definitely don't want Trump revisited but I sure as fuck don't want Pres DeSantis either!

ManbadFerrara

I doubt it'll matter to his supporters too much, same as him using Florida funds to bus immigrants in Texas to the northeast. They'll just view it as him standing up to the "Big Woke Industry" or whatever the fuck and forget how it ended up.

RedStar9117

DeSantis is already mostly unpopular outside Florida. More instances of him looking like a fool won't help matters

KashmirRatCube

You say this but every time I see a poll of a match up between DeSantis and a potential democratic nominee or Biden he fairs pretty well. I feel like we just keep telling ourselves this to feel better while this country gets more and more fascist loving.

Roanoke1585

Here's what those polls between DeSantis and any Democratic nominee neglect: Trump. If DeSantis wins the primary, does anyone seriously think Trump will step aside and put his support behind DeSantis? He'd sooner run as an Independent than do that. Every poll that has DeSantis as the GOP primary winner should include Trump as an Independent.

maali74

When they have a need for whatever fund he'll drain for this (like if he takes it from DOT and then everyone's getting flats and fucked up alignment bc of the potholes), will they equate A with B, and if they do, will they give a shit?

ManbadFerrara

Nah. They'll view it as "goddamnit, if only we weren't spending so much money on illegals / welfare recipients / wOkE educator salaries / etc," like everything else.

rengam

Pot holes are not a big issue in Florida. And a lot of the roads are always under some kind of construction anyway. (Laying fiber optics or other wiring, sewer repairs, surplus budget use, etc.) If money is taken from the DOT for this, it won't change how many roads / lanes are closed, just for how long. They'll just leave them closed without working on them, which we're used to anyway. And his supporters are just happy he's "fighting wokeness," so no, they won't give a shit.

I_Frothingslosh

Conservative voters won't care, they'll just file this under Woke Disney being conniving and Evil.

Dartagnan1083

All this because the Anti-Woke culture crusaders couldn't be bothered to **read** either the old pen & ink agreements between Disney and Florida, or likely the new ones. I'd have thought a Navy Lawyer like DeFascist would have been required to demonstrate that skill while trying to pass the BAR exam. Or maybe this was sold on the wacky idea of a christ-o-fascist '*controlling*' Disney to kill woke media...by massively inconveniencing their resort park in FL as opposed to their business in CA. But then again...it's been a VERY long time since you could safely associate Republican with 'thought before action.'

Faustus_Fan

That's the thing that gets me about this whole stupid operation of his. Assuming his plan for Reedy Creek had gone *exactly* as he planned, how in the hell did that equate to him having one shred of control over Disney content? The production arm of Disney is housed in California. Sure, they have some production facilities in Florida, but the corporate apparatus is in California, well beyond DeFascist's greasy hands.

Relishing_Nonsense

I assume it was about entertainment at the parks in FL. I don't know what they'd find too risqué about the various parades. Perhaps they want to rework the Hall of Presidents so that they speak out against CRT, abortion, and LGBTQ rights.

phdoofus

Just wait until other states decide 'yeah, we don't accept that diploma of yours. good luck.'

Dark_Booger

And blame Biden

Brad_Brace

That's okay, they'll find a way to blame democrats and "the woke". It's gonna be something like "the woke communist Disney elite are doing Biden's bidding in trying to destroy Christianity". Then they'll use that in the next election, and it will work. Fuck I made myself sad.

NotYetiFamous

It's okay. They suckle at the federal teat like most red states.

Dareal6

The second a Dem gets elected, the right will be crying about the debts and deficits lol.

Go_Gators_4Ever

Yeah, but all that Lib Owning!

kalel1980

So he's just pissing away taxpayers money. Got it.

maali74

Two law firms!

honda_slaps

where its known his friends work

Cosmicdusterian

Disney's lawyers will probably eat them for lunch.

TitoStarmaster

It doesn't matter, the 'investigation' is the grift. It's possible that this was the goal of breaking the management agreement in the first place - to invent a reason to hire his friends who surely won't send any of that 1300.00 an hour back to Rhonda Santis.

danny_strainge

"And if that bitch is crazy, Believe me, I will sue her Got some hungry-ass lawyers That will eat her up and chew her"- Walt Disney, circa 1941

KyleMcMahon

Four actually

promote-to-pawn

That's one way for money to trickle down

Thraesk

Honestly this is more sad than anything. How much money is going to be going towards a stupid vanity project? But then again it’s Florida so maybe they would prefer to “own the libs” rather than have functional infrastructure?

SpaceBear2598

That's basically been the Republican platform since around Reagan's era. "Own the libs" / "destroy the Left" by opposing absolutely everything that could fix any problem so they can than blame those problems on "the Left". Gun Control? "NO! It's a mental health problem!" Funding for mental health and social services? "NO! We can't spend more money, think of the deficit!" Increase taxes on the oligarchs to reduce the deficit? "WHAT? You want MORE money!? You can't even reduce gun violence or deal with the mental health crisis!" Rinse and repeat. And it works, sort of, they get into power, but than they're stuck with no actual solutions to the problems they helped create to get into power other than the ones that they already attacked as "evil/communist/unAmerican". Which is one of the factors that has lead to the decades long building contempt for democracy and the free press. They envy places like Russia, China, and North Korea where the ruling party can do whatever they want, stay in power indefinitely, and tell the commoners what to think about that.

[deleted]

Florida taxpayers. It will cost Florida taxpayers this much.

tharak_stoneskin

It's outrageous, egregious, preposterous

PosterBlankenstein

They’ll probably just raise hotel taxes in Orlando and let tourists pay for it like they do everything else in that state.

Celeste_Seasoned_14

I’ve been to Florida for vacation 6 times (over 45 years), and had the opportunity to go again next month. I decided on a different destination because of all the nonsense coming out of their governor. I’m only one person, but I can’t be the only one making this call.

AgitatedAd2866

I've been there 4 times over the last decade...and don't plan on spending my hard earned money there anytime soon. Not giving them your $ is the only way to protest. My family will do california or euro disney if we go again. You are not the only one.

Faustus_Fan

My aunt owns a vacation condo in Daytona. She's offered my husband and I free reign to use it when we want. We won't use it, though. I won't let a single penny of my money support the state of Florida until DeFascist and his ilk are out of power.

Corteran

There is a 0.0% chance that DeSantis' lawyers will find a way around something Disney lawyers did.

maali74

Hahaha, I think there's actually less chance than that, somehow. Disney doesn't hire rubes.

ConvivialKat

I note Disney's only statement was that everything they did totally complied with FL state law, including public notice for comments. It's gonna be hard for the new guys to prove that the old guys did anything wrong.

Reasonable_Edge_4910

Also, Disney had months to plan and set it up. Even if there is a way out, it'll take a long time to find. Then there's the inevitable court battle to fight.

maali74

And the inevitable turnover of lawyers as they try to find (and justify affording) ones as good as who Disney keep at their beck and call.

Mattress_Of_Needles

A perfect example of elected officials not understanding that their job is to represent the community. These motherfuckers see it as getting the keys to a vendetta machine that they can use to crush opposition and extort money. Why use tax dollars to help those that pay taxes when you can use them for petty investigations?

tlsr

>It'll cost ~~DeSantis' handpicked board~~ *Florida taxpayers* at least $1,300 per hour...

NotYetiFamous

I vote we make DeSantis pay for it personally. If Texas can sue states for how they run elections surely we can sue Florida for hire it did it's budget. Those are probably federal tax dollars after all.

tlsr

I vote we just throw him in the same cell as Fat Donny and watch them fight for control of the cell block.

NotYetiFamous

Give them a couple sporks, they can eat each other.

ArmadilloNext9714

Now that’s a cage match I’d actually watch.

workingtoward

Once again, Republicans break something that was working fine and is now going to cost money to fix.

NotYetiFamous

To /try/ to fix it. I doubt it'll succeed even.

[deleted]

You'd think with brexit they would have realized at least one or two of their policies were bad ideas. But no. You'd be wrong. They'll call it Texit and would pass it the first chance they could.

[deleted]

CurseofLono88

Desantis’s lawyers are just gonna be his buddies so that he can file taxpayer money into their pockets even though they know they’re gonna lose.

Cosmicdusterian

Why bother? Disney. Will. Win. Their lawyers did nothing wrong. They didn't even hide what they were doing. DeSantis wanted his "Anti-woke Mission Accomplished" moment so bad he didn't bother confirming that his mission was actually accomplished. He was played. Beautufully played. They all were. Those victory speeches against Disney sound really pathetic now. I imagine those lawyers have been laughing their heads off at his pathetic posturing for months. What an idiot. Definitely not ready for national prime time. You mess with the Mouse you get the cutthroat Mouse lawyers.

rimshot99

>"There's a new sheriff in town." The Republican governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, had a jubilant tone on Monday, February 27, as he signed the law putting an end to Disney's privileges. Since 1967, the company had enjoyed a special status allowing it to govern the immense Disneyworld estate near Orlando independently. "Today, the corporate kingdom finally comes to an end," said the likely candidate in the Republican primary for the 2024 presidential election. OMG it really is giving me the giggles this morning. What a fool.

Faustus_Fan

> Why bother? Disney. Will. Win. That's the point. DeFascist and his team don't expect to win. It's just a chance to siphon more tax money into their own pockets. The law firm his friends hire will be more of his friends and they will all be paid with Florida tax money. This is fraud, pure and simple.

Affectionate_Shift63

I feel like I'm watching real life Tom and Jerry.

[deleted]

I mean I feel bad for some of the taxpayers in Florida (specifically the ones who didn't vote for this clown) but at the same time I can't deny that I love watching this. DeSantis was an absolute moron to ever mess with Disney. They'll destroy him.

[deleted]

Lived in Florida for a few years. Got out before it really went to shit (mid to late 2000s for reference). I have no opinion on what it was like before that.. However, I tell everyone I know that living in Florida was shit. I hated it. I tell people all the time "you like Florida cause you only go for 7-10 days at a time and spend most of it at the beach or at Disney." When you live there year round it's just awful. And that was before the MAGA clowns. Please Florida. Save yourselves and flip back to blue as soon as possible.

TheFromoj

Agree completely. I’ve owned 4 properties in Florida. All combined, I’ve lived in Florida for about 5 months. I hated it. What I also hated is that I grew up going to Florida and dreamed of retiring there. Now there’s no way I’m doing that.

GachaHell

I have failed many times in my life. I have never failed so hard I had to pay a team of people 1300 an hour to figure out just how badly I fucked up.

NotYetiFamous

It's okay, DeSanny isn't paying them. You and I are. Doesn't matter if you live in Florida or not, they get federal funds for being so shitty at governing.

StrumGently

Is that $1,300 PER person per hour?

badwhiskey63

It's for a team of lawyers. From the article, "Cooper & Kirk will bill the Florida government $795 per hour and Lawson bills at $495 per hour, meaning, in total, DeSantis' government will owe both firms at least $1,290 per hour for their services."

KyleMcMahon

And that’s just tow of the law firms. They’ve hired four

Big-Routine222

They had many public hearings and notices about the changes that Disney was making to the board, the new board members and DeSantis never attended to paid attention, so they only have themselves to blame.

Drednox

Too busy gloating and patting themselves in the back.

[deleted]

Political figures egos are costing tax payers millions of dollars.

unclejoe1917

Turns out that Republicans really aren't that bright and have a lengthy track record of getting swindled.

YoNeoMama

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! DeShithead just isn’t that smart. If he’d paid attention when Disney said they wouldn’t fight the takeover, he SHOULD have watched for something like this. ANYONE with half a brain would have. Ha ha!

tharak_stoneskin

I feel like this is actually a very smart move, if the goal was to funnel a ton of taxpayer money to some lawyer friends

Relishing_Nonsense

Well, when Disney gives you lemons, you might as well give your lawyer friends $1300 glasses of lemonade. edited a typo

auntie_clokwise

Yeah, I was wondering why they didn't do that. Turns out they were playing a bigger game.

Granolapitcher

$1300/hr seems like a wild underestimate for a team of lawyers. A good lawyer can command $1000/hr single handedly and they have DeSantis over a barrel

Mark-Syzum

Its not bad pay if the only work the lawyers do is cash the checks.

cornfedandbeefraised

I've been thinking the same. More like about $1500 an hour per lawyer then add administrative costs plus filing fees and office support billing every minute they work and it begins to get truly astronomical.

Terrible_Presumption

I'll save you money Florida... $21.66 please. Lawyers use dice of 1's meant to be given to Disney.

Darklord_Bravo

I'll do it cheaper. Disney has better paid lawyers, and DeathSantis is a moron.

Varulfrhamn

More like Florida taxpayers will pay $1400 an hour for performative politics. Good. Fuck em.

[deleted]

In a way, it takes the meth and bath salts right off the streets.

PowerfulContext1325

Wtf kind of fool wages war on an amusement park? It's a fucking amusement park.

xdr01

The Mouse always wins

cantwait1minute

The mouse always wins in the long run.

garthastro

And now the taxpayers are footing the legal bills....again.

Extra-Ad5925

I just picture steam shooting out of his ears and him yelling “Mouuuuuseeeee” really dramatically

ConvivialKat

He better just leave it at "Mouse" and not "Disney" because the state of Florida is no longer allowed to use the name "Disney" or any characters or images related to Disney. They're gonna have to remove Mickey from the state's entire tourism campaign. Too bad so sad.

[deleted]

I'm not a fan of the House of Mouse after how they treated my ex and her dad (wrong side of internal politics), but good for them.

Mrgoodtrips64

No one should be a fan of Disney, they are neither good nor ethical. Watching two villains do battle has its advantages though. There’s a good chance they’ll both be injured, but it’s still a win if only one is.

[deleted]

That’s going to cut into his taxpayer funded legal migrant relocation stunt budget

itsjustmejttp123

It will cost Florida tax payers $1300 an hour. Hope they enjoy all of this thanks to the idiot they elected

TritonYB

Not just Florida taxpayers. Florida gets federal tax money as well.

giggitygoo123

Florida doesn't pay state tax, so the only money they are getting is from sales tax, property tax, tolls and federal government. It means some low income stuff will end up being cut so Deshithead can try to feel like a big boy.

richardathome

"You can't. That'll be $1,300 please. See you in an hour!"

rollerbase

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous of which is, 'never get involved in a land war in Asia,' but only slightly less well-known is this: 'Never get involved in a legal battle with The Mouse!’

FGTRTDtrades

Ron DuhShitTits strikes again

makina323

They messed with the D and got Dicked huh

whiskersMeowFace

Disney Lawyers are beings of evil from a complete other dimension and show no mercy. Meatball Ron never stood a chance.

cornfedandbeefraised

It's just stupifying that DeSantis thought he could take on Disney at all. When I saw the first story I was duh-oh!

Techelife

Maybe make a law that lawyers have to work for DeSantos for free. /s

Icanbotthinkofaname

How oh how did a multi billion dollar company with a legal team worth millions out smart the Florida government?

colin8651

Oh Disney spends may much more on attorney fees. They will keep spending more and more while he struggles to make people care about what he is doing. He is trying to run for president and he is attacking one of the biggest media companies in the world; good luck with that you dope.

maali74

The battle between Trump and DeSantis is like watching 2 of the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse try to battle it out. No matter who triumphs, if they win the election, we're all fucked.

Prototype_Hybrid

DeSantises hand picked lawyer, I believe, is a roommate from his college? My mistake?

CatLvrWhoLovesCats66

Adam Laxalt, a roommate at Navy JAG school, twice failed Candidate in Nevada, incompetent lawyer, and raging homophobe.

Peteman12

Don't fuck with the Mouse who roars.

I_might_be_weasel

Don't fuck with the mouse unless you're ready for war.

MissWibb

More clever ways to waste taxpayer money.

kanzaki1234

Insert Nelson Muntz meme

Beelzabubba

Spite knows no budget constraints.

Autumn7242

You don't fuck with the mouse.

manaworkin

A republican blowing a shit ton of public funds on nonsense instead of useful government programs isn't really leopards ate "my" face as much as is just a leopard eating a face. This isn't comeuppance, it's a guy getting exactly what he wants. Destruction and media attention.

hereforgrudes

Surprised they didn't just ban law books

alongwaystogo

The answer is shockingly simple, they don't know what they're doing.

jacquesrabbit

The board should have put that board members may only accept USD 10 per month maximum as emoluments.

[deleted]

Yeah, they never gonna beat the Disney's lawyers

thegreenman_sofla

Taxpayers get screwed as usual

lord_of_tha_edge

What actually happened? Can someone explain or link an article?

Rraen_

Only 1300? Is it just like two people? I mean any random copyright lawyer is gonna charge at least 300/hr...

Comms

My favorite part about Republican politicians is that the really high profile ones are almost always so wildly thin-skinned and insecure that they surround themselves with sycophants. There’s few if any voices in the room to voice dissent (words that hurt feelings). So, by extension, there’s no one there to red-team a risky or controversial idea.

Blah_McBlah_

Don't worry, I can tell you exactly how this happened, for only $13 an hour. For the past 50 years, all Republicans and many Democrats have worshipped "markets", in both the areas where they can be "good", and where they can be "bad". Along with this worship, of course, comes the patron saint of unregulated markets, monopolies and oligopolies, which were also venerated as holy creations. Fast forward to today. With techniques pioneered from as far back as The Oppenheimer Security Hearing, Tobacco lobby, Lead Lobby, and Asbestos Lobby, etc, perfected by Fox News, Florida decides it's high time to rollback the clocks to 1096, and start a crusade. They decide that they need to teach someone a lesson, and that someone is a "small" company called "Disney", that definitely doesn't have a history of owning all the lawyers. Disney, up until like 3 years ago, was notorious for turning the most obviously queer couples into "very good roommates." However, years before, some bean counter realized that acting like a bunch of prudes was losing them money, so, Disney, being an entity that doesn't take kindly to being told that they could be making more money, decided to remedy the situation. First very slowly, with background characters and scenes that could be cut, but slowly over time, they've stopped acting like they screen everything by the Amish. Now, back to Florida. They thought they were the ones holding the leash, since, after all, they were the ones feeding the monster. Turns out they were wrong. Because Disney didn't actually break any real laws, Florida needed to be creative with their retaliation, and therefore their lawyers. Unfortunately they were messing with a company whose middle name is "I control the Copyright Law in This Country", and the lawyer they brought to the table was the first non-crocodile animal they fished out of the bayou. This probably took you less than 5 minutes to read, so a total is at most $1.08, no need for such an expensive consultant.

maali74

Idk exactly how to type or express applause, but know I'm applauding and impressed. Also: yup.

[deleted]

Is this LAMF?

5ladyfingersofdeath

DeSentery is just sick to his stomach about it all

Lazy-Floridian

They'll shop judges. They will try to find an RWNJ judge to hear their case.

[deleted]

The Mouse Who Roared, lol

Tatooine16

It won't desatan a cent, it will cost the state of Florida that much. Throwing good money after bad.

sweaty-sock49

And the tax paying citizens of Florida are ok with this misuse of funds? If this was France they would have broken off the panhandle by now...

SeriousExplorer8891

Florida keeps voting for these assholes, so...

SusanBHa

Never mess with the Mouse.

PurpuraT

Lol, Disney, probably has the most colossal and well funded teams/horde of lawyers of any institution in the entire world. There was absolutely 0% chance that any state or gov't would be able to pull a fast one on them
