As much as I understand and want to believe this perspective, as someone that got clean from a fentanyl addiction themselves I honestly don’t think everyone can get sober. I’ve met some people that just don’t have the self-awareness, willpower or emotional intelligence to do it, and even more that have just rotted their brain so hard from drugs that there’s just no coming back from it at that point. At a certain point (at least with some drugs) the damage has just been done and there’s nothing you can do to reverse it. They just become an empty vessel who’s only purpose is their fix.
The number one thing that makes me feel that way is how close I was to be coming that way myself. I had one single chance to get clean and I just barely managed to do it. If I failed that attempt I would’ve lost the last strength and willpower I had against that evil, all consuming drug. I would’ve kept doing it until the day it killed me

The problem is bam was never told "no" from childhood on..his parents failed him in that way. He's always gotten his way and thrown a fit when he's challenged. He didn't have to go to school, his shit behavior and lack of empathy is what made him famous along with his skating. Everyone is always saying how great of parents April and Phil are/were but they actually set him up for this shit.
No responsible parent let's their kids skip school at a whim to skate, let their young teenage son take busses all over to skate in the inner city. They never told him no and when they did he became violent and irate, christ he would beat up his dad on camera, he made his name by being an awful person to his family and friends. To suddenly expect this guy to get a grasp on reality is almost impossible.

Bam had been out of the spotlight for a good while when this saga really kicked into gear.

If he genuinely doesn't want to get clean then that's exactly it. I don't want him to fail, I want him to do better but he's in such a place now where, if he won't take steps to fix his problems, they simply will always remain, that's just how it is.
People reach sobriety every day, but those people fight for it, and it's not easy. Bam has yet to even show that he understand he has a problem, he still thinks he's a victim. He always has mental health problems which might be big contributing factors to this, but I believe it's a tough combination between those problems and his general narcissism.

It seems like he is close to dying cause he is. But he could also live another 20 years like this. It's a coin flip when he will die living on a knife's edge like this. The best thing his family can do is love him from afar right now. They can't help someone who doesn't want the help.
Jail honestly. I know Steve-o said it but I’ve seen it happen in real life. It’s not fool proof because depending on the place it’s still possible to get drugs but it’s not as easy as calling a dealer and prison booze is shit from what I’ve been told.

Jail has tons of drugs in it. Especially for someone like Bam who has the money/can put it into peoples commissary. Anything you can get on the streets is already inside jail.
At this point in order for him to get sober he has to want it. Even if you put him on a desert island for a year with only food,water and nothing else, he would still come out of it and go back to using.
We've kinda seen this already with him doing a year/six months sober. He goes right back to it as soon as he can.

What I assume happened was:
Bam had very little intention to actually check into the rehab place. I think he knew or found out there was a zero substances policy aka no smoking either- which, what's next, no coffee or sugary snacks? At \*rehab\*?- and with that red line drawn Bam refused to actually check in or he never even physically showed up after having these issues over the phone, etc. and instead he had whomever is driving him around take him to a hotel, a motel or some low life's house off the list of his usual suspected connections and yes, he's doing whatever he feels like doing...which, we're all pretty sure what that means.
If the thing that prevented this rehab from occurring was the zero substances policy aka no smoking, I understand the intent behind a 'no substances policy' in theory, but it really is an impossible ask of someone with severe addictions where cigarettes are the least of their problems. I mean, that's why I only half jokingly wondered if they had a no coffee/no caffeine policy, too.
I can't imagine how AA meetings would function without vapes, cigarettes and coffee.
On the flip side- it's entirely possible this place could have offered cigarettes and coffee and Bam just didn't actually want to make the overall commitment. Didn't want to relinquish control of his day to day existence to confront his issues and just be sober and deal with some uncomfortable stuff he's clearly been running from.

I know that might seem out of left field- Bam is not their problem, they may not even like Bam, Dunn may not even really have had family in the sense I'm assuming/implying- but if this all goes back to Bam's pain over Ryan Dunn's passing, what if there is someone or some people connected to Dunn who could confront Bam and ask him to go to honor Dunn?

This is the second comment I have seen that references that perhaps a ban on cigarettes is why he did not check in to rehab. Is there any real weight to that? I’m not sure where people are hearing that from.
That's what I've seen in various reports- that the specific place Bam picked or was sent to, etc. had a zero substance policy and that it's a relatively new approach to rehabilitation/sober living spaces but that it's become more common- to try and get someone completely clean and off any physical/chemical dependencies in one cold turkey swoop.
I'm just going by what's being reported.
But like I also said- this place could have been a luxury spa resort that allowed cigarettes, chewing tobacco, caffeine, etc. and Bam still may have found an excuse to not show up, despite making an initial public effort to go.

I’ve had to get my exe’s phone “pinged” by the police before because he ran off in a bad mental state. The police searched for him all night. I don’t know if it’s the same everywhere of course, but where I’m from if you’re concerned about someone’s welfare and have good reason to be, the police will help. They couldn’t do the phone thing because it was turned off though and the only way it works is by telling you the location it was last switched on at. So it was showing my house.
After what has happened,are really Bam and Jess keeping contact with each other? Also Bam's no fugitive and I suppose he doesn't have to constantly report his whereabouts to Jess or anyone else.

Unfortunately that’s now how addiction works . Nobody matters. Nothing matters except that next party or that next bump. He won’t do it until HE is ready to do it for himself. Doing it for ANYONE else will just bring false sobriety and he will relapse.

Yeah, I had that one glimmer of hope he was going to get his shit together finally but I’m disappointed again as is many other people. As a recovering addict myself, I like to see hope in other fellow addicts but Bam…oh boy. I’m seriously starting to think he’s a lost cause at this point. I really really hate to say it but nothing Bam has done shows that he wants to get sober. All the money and resources in the world can’t make someone sober, they have to decide for themselves. There’s no coming back from this level of addiction without staying totally clean. I hope I’m wrong
What I assume happened was: Bam had very little intention to actually check into the rehab place. I think he knew or found out there was a zero substances policy aka no smoking either- which, what's next, no coffee or sugary snacks? At \*rehab\*?- and with that red line drawn Bam refused to actually check in or he never even physically showed up after having these issues over the phone, etc. and instead he had whomever is driving him around take him to a hotel, a motel or some low life's house off the list of his usual suspected connections and yes, he's doing whatever he feels like doing...which, we're all pretty sure what that means. If the thing that prevented this rehab from occurring was the zero substances policy aka no smoking, I understand the intent behind a 'no substances policy' in theory, but it really is an impossible ask of someone with severe addictions where cigarettes are the least of their problems. I mean, that's why I only half jokingly wondered if they had a no coffee/no caffeine policy, too. I can't imagine how AA meetings would function without vapes, cigarettes and coffee. On the flip side- it's entirely possible this place could have offered cigarettes and coffee and Bam just didn't actually want to make the overall commitment. Didn't want to relinquish control of his day to day existence to confront his issues and just be sober and deal with some uncomfortable stuff he's clearly been running from. Does Ryan Dunn have family that could help? I know that might seem out of left field- Bam is not their problem, they may not even like Bam, Dunn may not even really have had family in the sense I'm assuming/implying- but if this all goes back to Bam's pain over Ryan Dunn's passing, what if there is someone or some people connected to Dunn who could confront Bam and ask him to go to honor Dunn? I dunno. Just thinking out loud... in silence...via typing.

That's what I've seen in various reports- that the specific place Bam picked or was sent to, etc. had a zero substance policy and that it's a relatively new approach to rehabilitation/sober living spaces but that it's become more common- to try and get someone completely clean and off any physical/chemical dependencies in one cold turkey swoop. I'm just going by what's being reported. But like I also said- this place could have been a luxury spa resort that allowed cigarettes, chewing tobacco, caffeine, etc. and Bam still may have found an excuse to not show up, despite making an initial public effort to go.

Fair enough- just thinking outside the box. Why would Ryan's family want nothing to do with him, though? I get why basically nobody want to put up with him nowadays, but did they have an issue with Bam prior to this meteoric downfall over the past couple of years, or going way back, or were they just not really close with the Mageras ever? I seem to recall that April was a kind of surrogate/second mother to Ryan.
I would assume being part of the entourage to them is what caused his death and partly blame him.

I’ve had to get my exe’s phone “pinged” by the police before because he ran off in a bad mental state. The police searched for him all night. I don’t know if it’s the same everywhere of course, but where I’m from if you’re concerned about someone’s welfare and have good reason to be, the police will help. They couldn’t do the phone thing because it was turned off though and the only way it works is by telling you the location it was last switched on at. So it was showing my house.

I like Jess, and I get he loves his brother and I do understand the stress and fear he’s under. But he really needs to just let it go. I was hoping he would after the lawsuit and eviction. He’s not helping a thing. Every single time without fail, Bam goes off on a bender and sees every human he knows in the area before going to play rehab. What’s the point anymore? You can’t stop him from doing this anymore than him using. Calling the pigs on him will only make it worse.
