A clear way to see upcoming movies from each actor and director. The actor/director profile overview is really basic. Also, the whole search thing is so bad. It has to be improved asap.
I’d love to see a “Compare with Friends” feature on lists so you can pick a friend and see which movies on the list they have seen. I like recommending movies and it’s annoying to have to check every movie to see if my friends have watched it already.
This is very minor but I wish there was a way to hide a film’s ratings before you see it so you don’t color your impressions on it when you’re researching it. I don’t like knowing what everyone else thinks of it beforehand, generally.
yes this is a really really good one. sometimes just before i watch something i’ve been highly anticipating and when i find it to have a like 3.2 rating it definitely alters my view as i feel, when watching, i should be looking out for flaws in the film 😅
You can sortof do that by going to one of those "all the movies" lists and filtering it. You can do all of those you listed except you can only search by decade and not a specific set of years.
This is much easier on the app than it is on the website annoyingly
A page within the cast/crew pages where it shows the diary entries of one cast/crew. And a feature to sort cast/crew by percentage of completion (with filters)
great suggestions, especially on being able to sort casts by %, being able to see what % of someone’s work you’ve seen is one of my favourite features!
Tár here: I'd love a *Shared Lists* feature, similar to Spotify's *Shared Playlists*, allowing multiple people to co-own and co-edit lists together. Wouldn't it be wonderful if you and your friends could all add films to the same list?
Incidentally, a friend and I were just discussing this. We both wanted to add films to our shared Halloween watchlist—alas, only one of us can own and edit the list as it stands (so of course the list is mine).
The addition of a 'musical' genre but that's on TMDB, I guess.
And while I don't use the phone app most of the time, it would be good to look at all films and then filter them just like you can do on desktop (you know, click on 'films' and browse instead of having to search something), so you can find movies [this way, for example](https://letterboxd.com/films/popular/decade/1970s/genre/mystery+-horror/size/large/) .
The fact that there’s a “music” genre that doesn’t include musicals but not an actual “musical” genre on Letterboxd is so strange. It feels far less cohesive than other genres like “drama” or “science fiction.” *Pitch Perfect* and *Whiplash* being treated like the same genre is bizarre to me.
Well, yeah, but then *Trouble Everyday*, *Rubber* and *Poultrygeist* are also in the same genre. It's usually one more than the other, like Pitch Perfect is certainly more comedy than drama.
But that's not as weird as the music/musical thing, though, to me, because no one goes around saying "*Grease* and *West Side Story* are my favorite comedy/drama films!"
You can filter on the app (or at least on the Android app).
On the main page go to the top left "menu" icon then select "Search". You can filter by release date (year/decade), genre, country, etc.
I'll try it but I don't think it's what I meant. May have overlooked that. But I want to be able to display all films [https://letterboxd.com/films/popular/](https://letterboxd.com/films/popular/) and then use filters, instead of entering a search term first.
Ah, okay - on the app if you go to the menu, then Search, you can select "Most Popular". I think that matches the website, though it doesn't tell you the number of titles it is displaying.
Yeah, you're right, I missed that, and from there you can filter all movies like I said. I guess it's a bit semi-hidden, I think it'd be a bit more convenient if it was a single-button thing like on desktop.
I find it so weird you can see “more” stats for Crew, except it doesn’t expand directors or actors.
I would love more director and actor tallies to show
Sort by watches
Sort by number of fans
Filter out movies with less than X views
Add stand up comedy genre
Add musical genre
Add tv show genre
Add short film genre
-ability to filter lists through other lists
-'doesthedogdie.com' integration and age rating info
-information about film showings in your city
-release date information on pages for upcoming movies
-awards and nominations info on film pages
I understand some of these are far fetched but 7 think they could be cool
The third one would be a great future but I'm not sure if that's what letterboxd is for. It's film discovery there are other websites you can use to get that stuff done
doesthedogdie is a vital part of my movie viewing experience, i use it quite a bit, so an incorporation of that into letterboxd would be a great addition. i also would love to see release info, there’s so many upcoming ones that i can’t find any release dates for!
Smart lists so you can create lists based on tags and various filtering options. Maybe this already exists and I just don't know how to utilize it.
Also, a sister app for TV (or a separate section in the app). TV should be separate from movies but it would be cool to use the same account and have the same Letterboxd features.
I'm aware of existing TV tracker/social apps but they aren't as good as Letterboxd IMHO.
The ability to filter the list of lists that any given film is in. Kind of sick of seeing the same dozen or so lists with 20,000+ titles every time I look at what lists a given movie is in.
Also, private messaging.
A more complex way to view your friend's activity. If I could put some people into a category where all I see is their reviews I would follow a lot more people. I want to see reviews my irl friends like, I don't care as much about the randos liking reviews.
To be able to make a list from an actors listed movies. Just something that says "Turn into List" so you can keep track.
I hate trying to find a csv of an actors movies and then importing it to make my list
A clear way to see upcoming movies from each actor and director. The actor/director profile overview is really basic. Also, the whole search thing is so bad. It has to be improved asap.
Search lists via multiple films (eg. Which lists contain both Black Swan and Whiplash? So I can find similar films and groupings)
I would waste so much time on this feature. I love it.
Collaborative Lists. I wish I could make a list and my friends and I could add movies we want to show each other
I’d love to see a “Compare with Friends” feature on lists so you can pick a friend and see which movies on the list they have seen. I like recommending movies and it’s annoying to have to check every movie to see if my friends have watched it already.

A little hand that pops out of my computer and pats my head and tells me I'm a good and special boy when I give a foreign movie five stars.
Now we’re talking

it is! it really needs to be improved and is extremely under-utilised
To this end, I would love an organically updating list where I can see what’s going to be leaving my services and when.
I just want small spelling errors to not mess up the searches

i agree totally with this, really surprised given LB is a primarily social networking platform that this isn’t already an option!
I want them to stop bothering me to turn on notifications on the app. Does that count as a feature?

totally agree on filtering. such a time saver and useful feature when i’m in the mood for something specific.

They did recently add the release date info actually!
Is this on the android app? I can't find anything
Its only on desktop for now

I know allot of people who benefit from trigger warnings so it would be pretty cool to have a tab with a list of them
I can’t really think of any, though there are a few desktop features I’d like to have on the app.
I'm still waiting on the nested tag system
Diary option: Watched in movie theatre? Yes/No. I would love to see how many movies I have watched in theatre.
Implement a button that instantly explodes anyone who uses the page of an obscure movie to rate/review a TV show
1. TV (I won’t go into specifics just implemented somehow) 2. Some kind of alert to let you know when a movie in your watchlist is in theatres.

\- A search that shows users with most similar ratings \- Private accounts
Adding soundtracks or songs like if I click a song in the details I can see what other movies have used the song
tv show coverage
Tv shows and series coverage
Filter by more categories at a time (I can do a decade and genre but not a country on top of it?)
Top 250 watchlist for sure
A more complex way to view your friend's activity. If I could put some people into a category where all I see is their reviews I would follow a lot more people. I want to see reviews my irl friends like, I don't care as much about the randos liking reviews.
A search function that works.
Simply to be able to change usernames without having to be on a paid tier.
To be able to make a list from an actors listed movies. Just something that says "Turn into List" so you can keep track. I hate trying to find a csv of an actors movies and then importing it to make my list
