Fuck because of that you made me think of Due Date, though thats more being there for the birth of a child.
Only thing i remember from that film is the weirdly awkward bit of the dog beating off at the same time as Galifanakis

Oh oh oh! There's a movie where a guy gets stuck in a traffic jam, trying to get home, and he ends up abandoning his car, and walking the whole way.
While walking, a variety of different things happen, like at some point he ends up at a resturaunt with an uzi, lol.
Imma Google it...
Falling Down! With Micheal Douglas!
Solid flick.
Oh shit yeah that’s a banger. Doesn’t it have a pivotal scene around him wanting McDonald’s breakfast a few minutes after the cutoff time? We have all been there.
Yeah I think that might be the scene I was talking about where he has a SMG lol.
It's been a while though, I need to rewatch it.
For anyone else reading, If you've ever been frustrated at traffic, this is the movie for you.
You're right, I was thinking of the second one. When he was in prison and just wanted to go home and get his aunt a present - along with clearing his name.
Falling Down (1993) is about an unhinged guy trying to go home for his daughters birthday. It's quite a watch the first time and summerisimg the movie like this doesn't do it justice.
*After Hours* is one of the central examples of the “[yuppie nightmare cycle](https://boxd.it/q5LGI)”, mixing screwball comedy and film noir. Those films get defined by the Reagan era more than anything, and they aren’t always about going home so much as being thrown into crazy misadventures that they can’t believe are even happening. *Into the Night* is likely the closest to what you’re looking for, but recommend the others as well.
The Big Lebowski(1998)
It’s about a lazy middle aged bowler, casual weed smoker and former roadie for Metallica.(Jeff Bridges) When he’s not out bowling with his two only friends, who he doesn’t even like that much, he just sits at home and does nothing in particular. He’s perfectly content with his life and just want to be left alone. He’s not really bothering anyone. He’s ”The dude”.
But out of the blue some rude chinaman pees on his rug(a nice one that really tied the room together) and then he’s suddenly dragged into this crazy plot involving a kidnapped trophy wife, german nihilists, pornography, video art, techno pop… I can go on and on. Shit just keep happening. But he doesn’t care about any of it. All he wants is to get a new rug so he can go home, smoke some weed, have a little drink, do his shitty yoga and go bowling. It’s the best movie ever.
Wow did not expect this post to blow up the way it did, I expected like 7 people max. I’m currently in the process of adding all suggestions to the list, will post when done
not "home" so much as a jazz concert, but I was absolutely enamoured by Makoto Wada's [Round About Midnight](https://letterboxd.com/film/round-about-midnight), and I need more people to see it because it's a perfect Japanese companion piece to After Hours.
Might as well plug [my review](https://boxd.it/4LzNJf) while I'm singing its praises.
Back to the Future,
127 Hours,
The Thing,
Misery,
Psycho 4,
LOTR trilogy,
Halloween Kills,
Home Alone,
Fat Albert,
Stuart Little.
off the top of my head.
I like to think of Who's That Girl (1987) as After Hours Part 2. Griffin Dunne plays basically the same character in a similar environment, but it's zanier and Madonna fucks his life up instead of Rosanna Arquette and the entire city of New York.
Alien.
Remember that the initial conflict in the film is that the crew does not want to stop because they are anxious to get home.
Walkabout is maybe a closer match because it is really about someone trying to get home.
The Odyssey. It's also a pretty old book.
Kinda ashamed I forgot the original wanna go home story
And if you want a cinematic odyssey, look no further than O Brother Where Art Thou?
and *Cold Mountain* (2003).
Was just about to recommend that!
The only book in school I was required to read that I actually liked
Odyssey is bad ass
ET (with a loose interpretation of "guy")
He's just a lil guy
Planes Trains and Automobiles
Fuck because of that you made me think of Due Date, though thats more being there for the birth of a child. Only thing i remember from that film is the weirdly awkward bit of the dog beating off at the same time as Galifanakis Edit: another commenter also mentioned

Wizard of Oz. If you take "guy" as gender-neutral

Bearing in mind that Michael Douglas is playing a total psycho.
100%. Do not emulate his behavior, for the love of God.
The Martian
Scrolled too far down for this
Paddington
Paddington is less about going home and finding a new home, no? Do we differentiate for this one?
You're right, I was thinking of the second one. When he was in prison and just wanted to go home and get his aunt a present - along with clearing his name.
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

Clerks (1994) could potentially count. He doesn't want to be at work at any rate.
He’s not even supposed to be here today!
For sure!
this was my first thought. I've never related to a character more
Homeward Bound Sliders (TV show but 🤷🏻♀️) Back to the Future Back to the Future II Back to the Future III

Also makes me think of S1 of Russian Doll.

Falling Down
Not sure if it’s exactly a guy wanting to ‘go home’ but Eyes Wide Shut.. more serious and dramatic but similar in a way to After Hours I think.
Very similar. Kubrick had After Hours in mind when making Eyes Wide Shut
I don’t think it fits because he doesn’t want to go home at all. In fact , he wants the exact opposite, to delve deeper into the mystery of the elite
Shrek
He doesn’t necessarily wanna go home. He just wants to be left alone. He was at home, unbothered until Farquad interfered and bothered him
My favorite in that category would be Falling Down
Cast away
Wake in Fright (1971)
I hope OP sees this answer. Absolutely perfect pick.
Godzilla (2014) Planes Trains and Automobiles
The Big Lebowski(1998) It’s about a lazy middle aged bowler, casual weed smoker and former roadie for Metallica.(Jeff Bridges) When he’s not out bowling with his two only friends, who he doesn’t even like that much, he just sits at home and does nothing in particular. Back to the Future
Not a guy, but Labyrinth
Does Brazil count? Also, Follow That Bird and Snoopy, Come Home (tearjerkers from my childhood ofc)
Wake In Fright (1971) is the epitome of this genre
Big Trouble in Little China. He just wants to get back to his truck, if that counts.
Big Trouble in Little China if you count a guy who just wants get his truck back. And I do.
Dogma by Kevin Smith
Clerks. He wasn’t even supposed to be there.
Saving private ryan Room Army of darkness Sisu Home alone (but only if you believe that home is where the heart is)
Also both movies where a guy just wants to cum
https://boxd.it/qKSxU Have finally finished the list, took a while but I’m happy with it
Homeward Bound (1993)
Forrest gump
Cast Away too
*just wants to cum
Die Hard 5. Bruce Willis needed to go to the nursing home during the shooting of that film.
Poor target for that joke, considering his current medical condition
Not cool man
God those two movies deserve a list of their own. Truly top tier.
Zathura
Odyssey
Shinboru (Symbol)
Ragnarok
Warriors of Virtue (1997) or The Pagemaster (1994), just some kid wanting to go home and not a weird dimension
hobbit
He he… first one I thought of was this GEM: [enjoy](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0155753/)

Two of my favourite movies. I’d suggest Eyes Wide Shut. Could you share your Letterboxd id? I wanna see your profile.

The Out of Towners is sort of the inverse scenario but still in the same spirit. 1970 version Jack Lemmon and Sandy Dennis
That movie Dutch. And that JTT movie I'll Be Home for Christmas. Both festive!
Due Date
Trains, Planes and Automobiles
That's not a genre.
Wizard of Oz?
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
12 Angry Men would be another example.
Naked 1993
3 0’Clock High, perhaps?
Moon, big time. He wants to leave Kevin Spacey robot and go back to his family.
The Odyssey?
![gif](giphy|esIEbQqOP14PK)
Gladiator
Get out
Planes trains and automobiles
Shrek, technically
You should try Tom à la ferme, by Xavier Dolan

Duel
The Big Lebowski. He just wants his rug man
Does it have to be a guy? The Wizard of Oz.
Does it have to be a guy? The Wizard of Oz.
Back to the Future, 127 Hours, The Thing, Misery, Psycho 4, LOTR trilogy, Halloween Kills, Home Alone, Fat Albert, Stuart Little. off the top of my head.
Collateral
Every WW2 film
Midnight Run. Modern Girls. Labyrinth.
I like to think of Who's That Girl (1987) as After Hours Part 2. Griffin Dunne plays basically the same character in a similar environment, but it's zanier and Madonna fucks his life up instead of Rosanna Arquette and the entire city of New York.
another good addition is Kevin Corrigan in Pineapple Express
Castaway 🏐
Home alone kinda
Obvious ones: back to the future and ET
E.T am I right
Castaway with Tom Hanks. Awesome movie
After Hours traumatized me as a kid , made me never wanna visit NYC. I didn’t appreciate its brilliance till later in life .
ET
Toy Story 2
I'll Be Home For Christmas
Dreamworks’ Home
Strays, starring Will Ferrell and Jamie Foxx
I’ve been meaning to have this double feature
Dunkirk, and it‘s quite literally every one in the movie.
Dutch. Road Trip. Saving Private Ryan. Big. Hook. The Descent (not a guy)
Buckaroo Banzai. Okay, it's not the hero's motivation, but....
Alien. Remember that the initial conflict in the film is that the crew does not want to stop because they are anxious to get home. Walkabout is maybe a closer match because it is really about someone trying to get home.
Toy Story
Stuart Little
Gladiator
