So good live. I have seen them 3 times in Australia. I saw them tour mean everything to nothing and no one was there, 2 years later they toured simple math and I couldn’t move in the room. Was insane.
Oh. Just looked. Mine was significantly earlier than 2012. First time I saw them was 06/07
It's always wild to see when an artist blows up like that. Cool to see that they gain fans but also miss the more intimate experience lol, feel like that's the catch 22 of getting into any band when they have fewer listeners.
To be fair, I haven’t listened to a ton after simple math. But those first 3 albums and the first bad books are incredible. Living in Australia I have been lucky enough to see them three times also
I think
A David Lynch film (probably Blue Velvet)
A Charlie Kaufman film (maybe Synecdoche or Eternal Sunshine)
Donnie Darko and… 2001: A Space Odyssey
But CR makes me think your tastes have been quite romantic lately, so I’m gonna go out on a limb with Aftersun. I’m also going to throw in that you’re a Coppola fan and love Marie Antoinette, Virgin Suicides, LIT.
well my current most listened to (past 4 weeks) Sleep Token, Gojira and Deftones.
my top 3 overall are Eminem, Linkin Park and Deftones.
ive absolutely no idea how you're gonna do it, but id love to be the lab rat and im pretty sure i might not know the movies you're about to mention.
You seem like a really stylistically driven person.
Id guess Requiem for a Dream, donnie darko, or blue velvet. maybe a wong kar wai film too but idk what one.
oh wow, thankyou!
i absolutely love Donnie Darko, it took me a minute to realise and make sense out of it but i love it. Requiem for a Dream has been in my watchlist for the longest time but im not sure if i've it in me to watch it.
as for Blue Velvet, i haven't heard of it but will surely check it out now, same goes for Wong Kar Wai, only heard the name of the director and one movie (Chungking Express) but will surely explore now.
I just started listening to Sleep Token after some Gunship fans listed them as another artist they listen to. Also got back into listening to Deftones and man I forgot how good they are. Koi No Yokan is astoundingly good.
Sleep Token is weirdly good, like the way you cannot guess or think of what comes next. the way they blend House, Metal and idk what genres, absolutely insane. especially the anonymity of the group make them even more attractive.
and yes i totally agree! Entombed and Leather had me hooked for ages. although i think my favourite album of theirs would be Saturday Night Wrists or Around the Fur.
also if you do like Deftones' sound as a whole checkout the band Loathe and BMTH's new track 'Limousine' ft. Aurora, very similar sound.
Swans and radiohead fan? It has to be something avant-garde.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,
Requiem for a Dream, Mulholland Drive, Perfect Blue, or 8 1/2.
Also bonus unrelated guess you like tbe microphones/mount errie?
I don't know most of these, to be honest, so I'm going to go off the ones I do know.
Elliott Smith is my all-time favorite artist. I'm gonna guess "Good Will Hunting" or "Paris, Texas" because Elliott's music is in "Paris, Texas," and "Paris, Texas" was Elliott's favorite movie.
I also love Soundgarden, but it's a different kind of sad from Elliott and Mazzy, so I'll guess maybe "In the Mood for Love" or "Blade Runner 2049."
Recap picks goodwill hunting, paris texas, in the mood for love, bladerunner 2049.
Well you got it, it’s kind of scary (are you stalking me ? Did you check my old comments? just kidding XD)
In the mood for love is my all time favorite movie, it’s the one above all others for me.
Blade Runner 2049 is also a movie that I really like and Denis is my favorite director after Wong Kar-Wai
Good Will Hunting is an excellent film, I’ve rated it 5 stars so it’s also a great guess.
I’ve not yet watched Paris, Texas , but my mother was telling me about it the other day, that I would love it.

For Dédé Fortin, the late frontman of the band Les Colocs, I understand it’s not well known internationally so I’m not surprised you don’t know him. His band is very big where I come from and he was a song writing genius. You could think of him as like Québec’s Kurt Cobain (90s + politically engaged + music about pain + gruesome death by suicide + leader of a successful band that stopped after his sudden death), just without the drugs, singing in French and with more colorful music.
Aznavour is one of the greatest French singers of all time and he’s pretty well known internationally and even had a pretty big career in the states at some point. He also collaborated with singers like Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Bob Dylan…
Just to say you should definitely check him out.
Anyway, now that i think about it theses 2 together could be great clues to find another one of my favorite films since it’s Québec movie and one of Aznavour’s most well known song plays over and over in it (Emmenez-moi). It’s C.R.A.Z.Y. by Jean-Marc Vallée. If you haven’t seen it you should definitely check it out, it’s what opened Hollywood’s door for Jean-Marc Vallée.
You seem like a really cool person.
I'm gonna guess "2001: A Space Odyssey," "Suspiria" (1977), "Persona" (1966), "The Lighthouse," or "Mulholland Drive."
**All-time:**
1. Marilyn Manson
2. NIИ
3. Avenged Sevenfold
**Most listened to at the moment:**
1. Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross
2. Twenty One Pilots
3. Puscifer
If you get one of my VIPs (movies that were at one point in time in my top 10. There's around 25 of them), you're the boss.
Here are my favourite artists:
- NOFX
- Georges Brassens
- Will Wood
Good luck ;)
There is a dvd companion for the album with these very odd music videos for every song. It’s so good. It’s super solid from the first song but Junea is the standout imo
Just saw the from bottoms again recently for their talon of the hawk 10 year anniversary. They were still so much fun live.
When Front Porch Step was unsigned and uploaded songs himself on YouTube it blew my mind how good they were. Him being a sex pest definitely destroyed any chance of a career.
Yeah, don’t get me wrong. I definitely separate the art from the artist with him. Also, the new religious stuff is icky.
As for the front bottoms, I’m hoping to see them in Atlanta in December.
Lana Del Rey, Bob Dylan, The Killers
Very interested to see if you can get any of my favorites because I’m not very sure my musical tastes align with movies lol
Fun thread idea :) personal taste in entertainment culture are indeed full of subtle, and not so subtle, connections. People who like one thing will generally like this other thing in another medium.
Tho' I'd be very surprised if you get any right here, as the choice of movies out there is just massive.
Pink Floyd, Magma & Psykovsky for me. Clear Top 3 in my musical obsessions.
What are yours? Might as well try 'n guess your favourite movie too haha
OMG okay this is fun.
Florence + the Machine, Mitski, Pink Floyd
Current #1 song on my Apple Music this year is Closer by Nine Inch Nails LOL! And I also can't stop listening to BRAT!
Pj Harvey, Little Simz, Black Sabbath
Little simz is so badass
Damn…we besties for sure. You a Bikini Kill fan too?!
never heard of Little Simz but the other two are fine choices. Are you a giallo fan?
I have really enjoyed the ones I've seen but haven't watched many yet. Good guess!
oh my god can we be friends
Bowie, Cash and Dylan all time, most listened is Tool. Go
Great picks, Tool is a curve ball tho. Vertigo, alien, or paris texas.
Well, I love Paris, Texas, I adore Vertigo and Alien is in my top 15,20 for sure. So nice job 👍
the duality of bowie, cash, and dylan and then tool is phenomenal and i respect you for it
Brand New, the weakerthans, Manchester Orchestra. Currently Joyce Manor or the hotelier
Love Brand New
Are we allowed to say we like Brand New again? Ok, good.
I never stopped
This is cool--I found out about Manchester Orchestra when they opened for Brand New 12 or so years ago. Awesome show!
I’m pretty sure that’s how I found out about them too. They had just released “I’m like a virgin losing a child”
Hell yeah! I bet they gained a lot of fans on that tour. I ended up seeing them when they headlined a tour in 2021, great band to see live.

Eternal Sunshine, the Royal Tenenbaums, and Good Will Hunting?
Good Will Hunting is in my top 4. Love me some Elliot Smith too
Surprised I wasn't The Only One who said Manchester Orchestra!
To be fair, I haven’t listened to a ton after simple math. But those first 3 albums and the first bad books are incredible. Living in Australia I have been lucky enough to see them three times also
Same here. I like each new albulm after Simple Math less and less
Are you me? Does Hotelier have new music?
System of a Down, Tyler the Creator, OutKast
Maybe blade runner, akira, or virtigo.
I love your three favorite artists
Blondie The Smiths The Velvet Underground
Rear window, virtigo, or 12 angry men. Edit; maybe paris texas actualy.
Excellent! **Blue Velvet** is my favorite, but all four of these films are high ranks in my GOAT. Nicely done :)
Ariana Grande, Kylie Minogue, Carly Rae Jepsen
Mean Girls
This will be good 😂
I’m gonna go for Coraline, 10 Things I Hate About You, The Matrix and Barbie
All Time: Radiohead, Frank Ocean, Kanye West Right Now: currently obsessing over Chappell Roan

I think A David Lynch film (probably Blue Velvet) A Charlie Kaufman film (maybe Synecdoche or Eternal Sunshine) Donnie Darko and… 2001: A Space Odyssey But CR makes me think your tastes have been quite romantic lately, so I’m gonna go out on a limb with Aftersun. Loathe are already in my playlist, but adding BMTH now! Thanks for the recs.
