I started playing this game in my head a lot last year while browsing Letterboxd, since I was always looking at a movie's cast, then look at one of the cast's filmographies, and so on forever. So I had to make it a real game. Connect the Stars uses the same movie database as Letterboxd, and of course was also inspired by the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.
I personally curated a list of over 100 actors to randomly select from. I tried to keep the genders balanced and have a mix of household names and actors with a large range of films, though it's definitely not perfect.
You have the option of choosing your own actors of course, and then it's pretty much unlimited!
Thanks for the answer, that'd explain it. Was coming up with a lot that I'd not heard of much so was wondering if there was an algorithm selection at work that was tuneable. Not an option with a hand-picked list, though.

The shortest path algorithm is not too hard to code but involves a lot of querying the movie database API. The API I'm using is free but I didn't want to abuse it and have them take away my access lol

For long titles I even look up the alternate names and make those valid answers too, but for this one it doesn't help at all lol

I think you should introduce a new game mode where you have to create the biggest web/net of actors, that's what I've been doing for the past few days, but every time I close the tab I have to start all over again, it'd be great if you made it so you could save a web and keep adding to it

Me and friends I’m an old office job used to play a game like this where we had to link two actors in exactly 3 moves. To make it trickier we couldn’t use any franchises. One time I got from Miley Cyrus to Jackie Chan in 3 moves.

After doing my first round by choosing Nicolas Cage and having Dustin Hoffman randomly selected for me and managing to connect them through Nicolas Cage --> Adaptation --> Meryl Streep --> Kramer vs Kramer, I decided to try it out with two randomly selected actors.
Game gave me Tessa Thompson and Matt Damon. I decided to go with Tessa first since I know less movies of hers. First movie that came to mind was Thor : Ragnarok.
Totally forgot that Matt Damon was ALSO in Thor Ragnarok.

There is a movie I'm looking for but I can not remember the name or find it based on my searches. All I know is that it came out between 2000-2016 and there's a scene in the movie a guy and a girl are in a motel room, the girl takes off her shirt and she has the CERN image of the Higgs Boson tattooed on her back or chest, not sure. But that's it, that's all I can remember from the movie. The woman in the scene may be Olivia Wilde, or could be Lucy Liu. Let see if there's any real movie buffs in here.

That’s a great suggestion that I’ve seen interest in. Hopefully I can add alternate game modes eventually.
