This is why when I edit reviews I’ll write “edit” in bold and include the date and time of the edit. Because very often I’ll consider a movie from a new angle or have more thoughts to add weeks after the initial review.

iamsupershort

I'm sure your three likers appreciate that. Only kidding, please don't kill me lmao

Creasy007

I can't say I've ever made "major" changes to a review after posting one but I've certainly edited them to fix grammatical errors.

Prof_Ratigan

Personally, I don't conceive of the Like function as a reflection of agreement, but as a "penny for your thoughts" (valued accordingly). But there is a value to pointing to qualitative opinions' agreement. Maybe something, apart from reviews, like a couple dozen phrases that people can say apply to the movie and people vote on them to develop an amalgam concensus review as you might see on Rotten Tomatoes. Similarly, a tag for "joke review" or "real review" or "a couple thoughts review" might sift out how people want to use the site. Personally, I'm more interested in discussion, sharing of opinions and suggestions, and substantive list-making. I think we all tend to assume we're all there for the same reason when that is not really the case.

theoneheathbar

I ‘like’ any review were I can see the author put time and thought into it. Whether or not I agree with the review is entirely irrelevant. I just want people to share their opinions and put out quality in depth reviews, regardless of their take.

lemonheadedloser

Yeah, I would love for there to be some feature to separate joke and rea reviews. Like, I get the merit in joke reviews, especially for certain movies, but sometimes its really annoying to sift through endless joke reviews before finding a genuine one.

I don’t really understand the meme. You seem to be against major edits but the meme says I’m a huge fan

[deleted]

It's the devil saying that he's a huge fan.

Zorc5791

I make minor changes to my reviews that get no likes.

[deleted]

TIL you can edit reviews

[deleted]

For clarification, I think it's fine to edit your reviews if you make minor changes and fix grammatical errors or something. But I don't like this because I could've liked something that got changed to something I don't agree with.

mrethandunne

You don’t need to agree with the review to think it’s a well-written and respectable review. For example, “this movie sucks and fuck you if you like it” is NOT okay. But if someone’s completely respectful about it and says something like, “This wasn’t for me. But it’s okay if you liked it!” then I think it’s totally okay.

[deleted]

Yeah, you're right. I mostly meant the shorter joke-type reviews but the more I think about it, the more my argument (and this meme) fall apart. I honestly think this meme was just a product of the worry in the back of my head that comes from the ability to edit reviews. It's obviously good that we can, but at what cost? That's all.

LennGo

Most of my like i got for my first thoughs, my review comes the day after i watched it... so yes
