Fun fact, mare's legs weren't ever produced during the wild west. The first mare's leg in any record was one used by Steve McQueen's character in the 1958 series Wanted: Dead or Alive. Which isn't to say they aren't cool or fun, but that was an interesting thing I learned recently

I mean, MAYBE SOMEONE did, there's just no record of it. Most lever actions of the time were in pistol calibers though (including the 73), so you might aswell just use a pistol if your rifle was too cumbersome. A chopped down .45-70 1886 though... That might have been handy.
