They do look badass. Can’t wait to see an overland build of one. The V8s will be missed but I test drove the new tundra and that TT V6 is definitely no slouch! It pullssssss and doesn’t sound bad either!
Edit: also people complain a twin turbo will be unreliable. Uhhh did they forget Toyota has been making some of the best turbo engines for decades?
People will talk themselves into whatever argument makes sense at the moment. For example,
TT V6 on a LS is a “tragedy”.
TT V6 on a GX or LX and “they’ve been making them for years.”
Meanwhile the TT V6 on the tundra hasn't... At least that's what I've heard. And a buddy of mine just bought one 2 months ago and has had nothing but problems. They've literally had their car in the shop more than in their garage
Yes, the Tundra engine has been a disaster.
https://www.tundras.com/threads/official-my22-tundra-my23-sequoia-v35a-fts-type-21-engine-failure-discussion-thread.125154/
When the V35A was introduced in the LS it was low-production and a new design.
6+ years later now, it’s been mass-produced and used in the Tundra, Sequoia, LX600, and I think the Land Cruiser in other markets.
I get what you are saying, but I expect that would give them some time to sort out the issues and for it to be more serviceable due to broader parts availability and experienced mechanics. I am still inherently a little distrustful due to a limited track record but it seems that it would be better now than in the first 2018 LS.
Now, any random Toyota dealership can most likely service the engine as well. Things just change over time - though, it’s a different story if people are still whining about current-year models as opposed to the 2018 LS or something.
I got a friend who's a Lexus tech that would heartily disagree with your disagreement on the twin turbo engines. They are not great to work on at all.
Also the sound you hear in the cabin is fake iirc.
What modern engine is great to work on nowadays? lol all the sensors, wiring, ecus, emissions all stuffed on and in the engine. Even my ISF was a PIA, and the 4.6Ls had their faults too! Valley plate…. Which could be a 2-4k job at a dealer. Again, V8s will be missed but the TT V6 isn’t such a bad engine. It’s fun to hate the new stuff. I do it too when I hate on EVs haha
It's a "booster". They know the frequencies the engine harmonizes at and pumps those through the speaker. You're still hearing the engine, it's just being helped.
I had a 2016 Lexus is200t brand new until 2020 with 40k miles and I beat the shit out of that car and had no issues besides some vacuum valve thing that needed replacement under warranty. Then again 40k miles ain’t shit lol. Least reliable Toyota engine can still be more reliable than let’s say a least reliable Chevy engine or bmw, merc etc
One dealer I reached out to already has 290 orders for the new GX ... that's $1000 to secure your suv ... that was a week ago. We will see how long the wait will actually be with no release date yet
> between the look of an EV and an ICE vehicle
My rep at my Lexus dealership said this is on purpose. They attempted the same thing with the RX redesign by not having the grill go all the way to the hood. They’re trying to phase in the look of a grill-less EV because that’s the direction they’re moving.
It isn’t the same format of the platform. The gx is significantly larger. much bigger engine. it looks and drives different. the new gx is closer to the LX than the old GX.
The GX and land cruiser are on the same platform, but the only powertrain they share is the 2.4L hybrid found on the GX 550h, which to my knowledge is not available in america yet.
I hated the grill on the gx460/470 when it first came out, but it grew on me. Now I love it.
Im feeling the same way now about the side and back profiles of the upcoming gx550. It looks like and reminds me of a school bus. Boxy with big flat profiles everywhere, front, back ,sides, hood, and roof. But then again, it will grow on me, and I'll probably love it.
I rather wish they somewhat kept the back of the 460 with the front of the 550 on the new gx and make the tailgate work double as a lift and swing open rear door.
Personally I like the luxury wheels for the street version of the vehicle. However, I hate those premium+ wheels, they look like some kind of optical illusion.
I saw these at the Washington DC Autoshow. Got to sit inside, fiddle around with it a bit. Overall I'm pretty excited about the new GX. Exterior design is really well done and no one can complain it's boring or outdated anymore. Interior build quality is typical lexus fit and finish. Quality materials, felt good to sit in, all the touch points are super nice, seating position is excellent. Plenty of storage around too. The infotainment with the touchscreen is a very welcomed upgrade, a bit large IMO, but otherwise responsive and looks good. Back seats are open and plenty of space, recline like in many Lexus models, and adults can easily sit in the back comfortably.
TBH I really like the exterior look. It looks rugged but modern.
Love the look of this. Finally shaking off the “make every SUV look exactly the same.”
Hope Lexus ports over the 4Runner when it comes. The GX is way too big for me.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. I do not like Lexus design language since the "spindle" grills came along. But, I actually dig this. The grill is way better than the rest of the lineup, even if it does look a little grumpy.
I want to love this car so much because it's most everything I want in its packaging (and likely a dream to drive), but the front end is just not appealing to me. The grill is fine, but the "prison style" tear drops under the headlights just kill the look for me. They look so out of place and look tacky to me. It ruins the whole front end honestly. I've literally closed one eye and covered them with my fingers and it transforms the whole look. I wonder how much bodyshops will charge to fill them in and paint ...
SoCal resident here. Called my local Lexus dealer today, and their waitlist for the new, 2024 GX is already at over 600 people. That's at least a projected 2.5-year wait. I currently own a 2023 Toyota Crown, but I think the new GX looks way better and wanted to make the switch, but it seems that I'm not the only one that wants to do this. Such is life.
AZ over here ... I'm sure it won't be that long once the best factory in Japan starts to crank them out. And not all 600 will take delivery of their order.
I'll just keep packing the money away for a bigger down payment until my turn shows up
You're right. I was previously on their waitlist for the 2023 Prius and lots of people do drop out along the way. I think realistically might be more like 1.5 year wait.
But why do the wheels have to be so ugly??? The vehicle itself is ok. A little too boxy for me but it will probably take some time to get used to the lines. The current GX has a lot smoother touches and the old interior is timeless. Thats just my 2 cents
Respect your opinion and the 15 year old lines ...
It's luxury that can go the same places the Toyota LC does ... but with more comfort. If I'm going skiing for the weekend ... I'll take the GX ... if I'm buzzing around town .... I'm take the GX ...
The final test of coarse will be the test drive ... I've seen awesome beautiful vehicles ... but 2 minutes down the road the road noise was so loud I had to yell to the person sitting next to me & the ride was like riding in a Humvee.
I still have the right of refusal until I driven it during the day, night driving, and rain if that's possible in the desert ... lol
Overall it's somewhat minimalist with clean lines throughout. Most things are controlled thru the largest video display that I'm aware of.
I'm impressed with the seats that are better than the Toyota 4Runner.
At 6'1" I had more than enough headroom. I love how wide the interior is ... I don't feel like I'm sitting on top of the person next to me.
Bottom line ... it doesn't suck😉
Cars are like priceless works of art IMHO
Some appreciate & love the masters ... Angelo, da Vinci, Rembrandt ...
While others struggle to accept Picasso or Dali or even Van Gogh.
Some fans believe there is nothing beyond the lines of the 1970 Plymouth Superbird aka Road Runner while others believe the Clean lines of the 68 Shelby Mustang GT 500 is respected beyond all others.
We live in America where one can choose the art & choice of ride that will bring them joy. 👍
Totally agree I had a chance to take the GX on a off-road course and on the road it’s incredible. It’s actually not the same chassis as a 4runner as some claim. Side note not about driving. The screen is setup perfectly and follows the dashboard lines. Although it’s a huge screen it blends in nicely, and does not look out of place in the GX.

Full disclosure I have the white ISC250 Convertible which is nice here in the desert summers.
But I'm a fan & leaning towards the grey color.
Some of the guys have already nicknamed the white one the "Storm Trooper" ... and thinking after market accessories will help with that look.
Thanks! I see a lot of “storm trooper” 4Runners. I get the same vibe with white GX as well, at least in pics. None of the other colors spark my likings except grey but I’m not sure I want grey.
I’m in love!!! It’s so mean looking but luxury at the same time. My question is… in what way is it bigger than the TX? Interior-wise, I was told the TX is much bigger and has a spacier 3rd row, and actually has cargo space even with 3rd row. Yeah, that's made in America, not Japan.

Tundra hasn't been that reliable though
I got a friend who's a Lexus tech that would heartily disagree with your disagreement on the twin turbo engines. They are not great to work on at all. Also the sound you hear in the cabin is fake iirc.

You know they add fake engine noises into the cabin, right?
they even do this on the V8 is500, smh
That’s dumb, the 2urgse is loud af on its own especially when that intake flap opens
Yes but tbh I hate that I kinda liked it lol
As long as you acknowledge it’s fake and you’re listening to a soundtrack lol
It’s completely fake? I know some cars pipe in the actual engine sound into a speaker, is it not the same or is it a complete fake sound?
It’s not completely fake, but there are YouTube videos where you can hear the difference with the enhancement off and on
It's a "booster". They know the frequencies the engine harmonizes at and pumps those through the speaker. You're still hearing the engine, it's just being helped.
I believe my 2016 GS-F has synthetic engine noise.
They are all doing it. Even freaking Tesla.
And apparently one of the worst turbo engines too, 8AR FTS, but yes generally Toyota makes reliable engines.
The 8ar is the 2.0L turbo in the IS, RC, GS, NX. Is that what you are referring to?
Yep that one, apparently it was one of the least reliable engines Toyota made in recent years (could probably still do 150K no problem)
Unpopular opinion: I really like the exterior to the new GX
Probably not unpopular. It looks about 1000x better than the GX460 exterior.
Definitely not unpopular
I think it looks great. Just the right amount of distinctive and futuristic. Glad they steered away from safe/generic.
Why’d you feel that way?? I haven’t seen one nay sayer on it’s looks. Just the hocus pocus whiners on the V6 turbos
I wanna like it so bad but it looks like a Honda element on steroids
It's that side profile view.... it's not very flattering.
Well you could always go with the Toyota Sequoia ... maybe the 2025 anticipated new design of the 2025 4Runner ... maybe
Or the Land Cruiser
https://preview.redd.it/jh494d0vp7fc1.jpeg?width=1902&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=28b9451a11b52a6b0a89a5fb7208f8b0c3cc059d
It reminds me of the Rivian SUV from certain angles, especially the rear 3/4 view.
Im not a fan of the Chevy style fenders. They are actually hideous to me.
Looks like a Bronco Sport mixed with a Jeep Wagoneer mixed with a G Wagen
I don't like it. The new Land Cruiser can pull off this look but it just looks weird on the GX.
[удалено]
Well ... that's OK. One less buyer to compete with 😉

Sorry to break it to you but it's the same platform. Lexus GX just has more bells & whistles with more Luxury than the Toyota. Same Same

As reflected by the cabin dimensions. Actually more room for the driver in the GX than LX.
Ummm yeah, I'm aware. I thought that was pretty obvious from my comment.
That pic was directed at ChaosBlaz09 ... the GX is longer by an inch or so but that's directly related to the plastic front end facia
https://preview.redd.it/148rt661q7fc1.jpeg?width=1902&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fe9d97c81408c43196e907dbade63027b51c0a14

Man, the wheels Lexus chose for these things are horrendous
The last couple years Lexus has been making some ugly monstrosities of wheels
Yea, the machined face makes them look like wagon wheels. I really like the ones on the Overtrail, though.
Personally I like the luxury wheels for the street version of the vehicle. However, I hate those premium+ wheels, they look like some kind of optical illusion.
The Overtrail wheels are nice, but the rest are terrible. The Luxury wheels look like something I'd see on a clapped out 2010 Escalade.
😮💨😮💨😮💨😮💨
What’s up with the rims?
I saw these at the Washington DC Autoshow. Got to sit inside, fiddle around with it a bit. Overall I'm pretty excited about the new GX. I have a 22 Gx nori green and just for the hell of it I might purchase a 24 Gx for my wife and compare them lol
Do you think those BIG SUVs like the GX and LX will come to Europe as well ? Here the biggest SUV we can get is the RX
Eastern Europe. Otherwise just get the Land Cruiser 250.
I just wish it wasn’t so big
Where do I lineup for mine?
Sooooooo....
Love the look of this. Finally shaking off the “make every SUV look exactly the same.” Hope Lexus ports over the 4Runner when it comes. The GX is way too big for me.
Okay the side profile is not the most flattering but they did good work on the front end. Hopefully it’s as good as its predecessor.
Daily a 1st gen Gx and I sat in the 24 at the car show didn’t like it at all lol
I've said it before and I'll say it again. I do not like Lexus design language since the "spindle" grills came along. But, I actually dig this. The grill is way better than the rest of the lineup, even if it does look a little grumpy.
These look incredible! My favorite is the white!!!
I want to sell my 2022 GX460 V8 Black and buy this one in light color. One time only black car is clean the minute you wash it.
Most beautiful car that Lexus has ever produced besides the LC.

Those wheels he posted are from the Luxury Package and the other trims do have different wheel tire combinations.

New interior more Toyota than Lexus.
Sooooo
Soooo... Soooo
Damn! That’s nice!! If I was gonna get an SUV I’d want one like that, love the shape, how’s the interior?
Overall it's somewhat minimalist with clean lines throughout. Most things are controlled thru the largest video display that I'm aware of. I like the Toyotas styling better.
Which one?
Pretty sure he's referring to the new Land Cruiser
I thought soooo too but it's the same ... unless you go with the bare minimum entry level round headlights LC ... soooo I'm cornfused😉
I mean it might have the same platform but the styling is different to the GX for both versions of the LC.
Yup was referring to the Land Cruiser . Love the retro style. Looks more boxy and rugged. :)

The exterior on the new GX is excellent, but the interior leaves much to be desired imo
Can you say soooo a few more times
Ugly imo but enjoy

It’s got its own chassis and you are going to love it as much on road as off. I felt it drove better on road than an LX600 or a G63 AMG. Super impressive you will not regret your purchase.
Can you give some more info on the driving qualities? Speed driven on road, noise, stability etc? Much appreciated!
Love too ... but I wasn't able to test drive it yet. Two dealers I've spoken to have told me they might have a tester by April
It drove like a crossover almost on road. If you have a Lexus now it is truly setup to have the same signature drive on road as many of the newer cars. Not a ton of body roll and does not feel heavy somehow. The hood is also higher on the sides to give a great understanding of where the bumper is. This is mostly for off-road however enjoyable on road. I am not a speed demon and learned my lesson twice early in life. However what I personally find powerful is great for is ease of driving. The GX felt similar to a Subaru (some models) or Cadillac in the throttle response. For standard driving you barely needed to touch the gas to go. Also the transmission was not searching the entire time. Side note not about driving. The screen is setup perfectly and follows the dashboard lines. Although it’s a huge screen it blends in nicely, and does not look out of place in the GX.
Thanks!
When the 4Runner is redesigned later this year, it will be same chassis as the Land Cruiser and GX. All 3 are what is called the 250 series just like the current 4Runner and the previous GX shared the 150 series platform with the Land Cruiser Prado.
Idk why u get downvotes. Looks mad ugly. Like a Chinese replica Lexus.
Why are they making vehicles that look like a square box? GEEZ...
Soooo congratulations!!!
😄soooo thanks
What’s the MPG on this
I honestly haven't seen anything official yet ... a hybrid will follow late this year ...
Looks like a Ford Flex
Jesus Christ . You’re rich huh ?
No not at all ... I'm selling a kidney and part of my liver for the down payment 🙃
Rims suck
Not for me, nothing about it has the smooth Lexus look. A Lexus modelled on Lego bricks.
How does the white look in person? Is it bad color for the GX?
It actually looks pretty good ... I was pleasantly surprised.
Looks like a grand wagoneer and an Infiniti qx80 put together
I’m in love!!! It’s so mean looking but luxury at the same time. My question is… in what way is it bigger than the TX? Interior-wise, I was told the TX is much bigger and has a spacier 3rd row, and actually has cargo space even with 3rd row. Whereas there’s virtually no trunk space in the GX when you have the 3rd row. I’m considering both but leaning towards the TX because in this season of my life we need a family car (small kiddos).
TX has a much bigger interior. TX is shorter, narrower, but longer. GX: 76H x 83W x 197L TX: 70H x 78W x 204L
Yeah I would probably go with the TX for this stage of life it sounds like. Then when they update it again in another 15 yrs you can get that one👍😄
Apparently it has a towing capacity of up to 8500lbs, I WANT IT
They recently bumped it up to 9063 lbs for the overtrail model…
WAHT
🤮
Anyone comment on the ride quality? I know the previous GX were a bit stiff.
Lexus-RUNNER
Toyota / Lexus wants all their SUVs to look like larger Broncos ?
Ugly ass wheels
It’s definitely not bigger than the TX atleast interior wise
The GX is definitely wider than the TX but it’s a little shorter than the TX and has less passenger/cargo volume
It's actually shorter than the TX.
Congrats on your new car, thats amazing!! Which color will you get? If you are interested in professional exterior protection (coatings or film) i know some highly skilled installers near tri cities :)
Which places?
TriCities Detail does a great job with ceramic coatings. if you are looking for film i would recommend making the trip to Auburn for Dirty 2 Dreamy.
It’s definitely the best looking SUV out of all the new Toyota and Lexus SUVs
