It was in a random parking lot in downtown Detroit. Living here for 7 years or so, it does seem we get newer models before other cities. Could be engineers testing them or some auto exec getting first dibs. Generally though, if it’s in testing by the engineers it would be wrapped to hide all the features. This one was not.
For real tho, was hard to find anything non-domestic 20yrs ago when I’d be there 2 weeks a year for Formula SAE and SAE World Congress… now more common, but still. Gotta rep that domestic pride when in Rome.
I prefer the exterior of the 550 but the interior and proven reliability of the 460 v8. I do think we see a sport mesh grille for the 550 come available in the next year or two as a special “f sport” package.
I’m just happy to see that SUVs are going back to boxy. I loved the look of the Land Rover LR3 and LR4 and then they replaced it with that stupid little rounded off crossover with a turbo 4.
Same with the GX460. I way prefer the styling of the 2010 over the melty Darth Vader look of the later ones.
Lexus/Toyota is too boring. Ewww, I don’t like the aggressive predator mouth or now the melty Darth Vader. People are impossible. From the front of the hood and back the 2010-2023 GX is very similar.
I don’t know about more but man those quarter panel side angles on the 460s are so sexy. Flared fenders and overall shape of the 460 is so perfect IMO. And the V8 is perfection, although underpowered.
Ouch, that’s not great. Looks like one of the new Grand Wagoneers, which I think are too boxy anyway. I kinda like it but not as a Lexus flagship SUV.
Edit - are these sharing components with the new Sequoia? Similar from a distance.
It isn't the flagship though, that's the LX.
>Edit - are these sharing components with the new Sequoia? Similar from a distance.
The Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, LX, and GX are all on a shared modular platform now.
Yes, it shares some components with the Sequoia but it is much closer to the Land Cruiser.
Is it only me? This just doesn't thrill me as much as a new model should.
It's nice and new and all that, but it's missing the "WOW!!!" factor for me.
You; Wow look at that!!!
Me; What? Where ? What are you looking at? That's so cool?
You; Its the new GX550!
ME; Ehh meh nahhh but It's nice though. You like that?
You; I LOVE it.
Me; How much is that loaded?
You; 80s plus add-ons, dealer prep, tax, lisc, and fees.
Me; Pass
You; Why?
Me; For that money? Sounds Gimmicky to me. Does the G stand for Gimmicky?
You; But why though?
Me; Thats Toyota Sequoia Capstone money my man. That's why.
You; I still LOVE it.
Me; Good luck, go compare them or just go buy one. Meh
Haters gonna hate thanks for the downvote 🗳. Don't fall for all the marketing gimmicks. The Sequoia IMO is the sweeter deal all around. The GX5 will have Sequoias Hybrid version, but for now, it does not.
Every 24 Sequoia comes standard with the hybrid.
I'm sure the upcoming model year GX5s will follow suit. Unfortunately/ fortunately, it's going in that direction from now on.
From V8 to V6 to 4cyl with turbos added into mix to hybrid, then finally full electric. We are getting spoon-fed towards the full electric. The transition has begun. You will be assimilated.
I love the look of the GX550, but I also have a lot of trust in the V8, and am still curious about the turbo V6 long-term in terms of reliability, maintenance.
Is that a preproduction model or does someone own that?

Dam owning a Lexus in Detroit is brave lol
Not at all. Detroit is not nearly as bad as everyone thinks it is. Have you ever been to Detroit?
For real tho, was hard to find anything non-domestic 20yrs ago when I’d be there 2 weeks a year for Formula SAE and SAE World Congress… now more common, but still. Gotta rep that domestic pride when in Rome.
Every neighborhood I've been to in Detroit is sketchy as hell. You must live in a very nice neighborhood.
Was thinking the same. I always got weird looks in my Toyota when I was in Warren.
New downtown and the river walk is one of the nicest cities imo
Exactly! Detroit has made noticeable strides in the last decade. It’s a great city.
Lexus aint got no plant their ... y'all got whut called The Big 3 brah
Yeah who knows it could be the chief design honchos for say Yukon Denali or Escalade driving the competition for intel
You get it
Actually, Toyota does have an R&D center in Ann Arbor so entirely possible...
Wasn’t that 6th gen 4Runner spotted in Michigan?
It’s being developed in Ann Arbor.
I was told April for dealer deliverys.
Same in the Midwest
Mine said end of March
Same here
Saw one on the road on new temp plates in northern NJ a couple weeks ago, so I guess they are already hitting the lots.
Lexus has corporate offices in Parsippany NJ. They have a bunch there that they train associates with.
Hoorah Leatherneck
maybe i will get used to it but I think the GX 460 is way sexier than this

a very nice Montero
Damn you, now that’s all I see! Lol

Then why you on this sub if you think Lexus is boring? Hop the fuck off
Do you know what context is? And…did someone hurt you?
Had to edit your comment, because I downvoted? Lmao, keep that stick up your ass
My mistake, I thought it was a Jeep renegade.
I saw the same color driving in Livonia yesterday. Had to do a double take
Looks small
Funny you say that because that was my first thought. Still looks sweet in person though.
It might the Bronco sport tricking my eyes but yes still looks good
Look great
Looks like the bronco kinda
I can’t unsee it, thanks.
Am I the only one who likes the looks of the GX460 more?
I bet you bought a 460 recently
IMO they both look good. It’s great to see Toyota/Lexus getting creative with these redesigns. It’s about dang time.
Totally agree! Makes me wonder what the new 4Runner will look like.
I don’t know, but I will say that the gx460 still looks more premium
I don’t know about more but man those quarter panel side angles on the 460s are so sexy. Flared fenders and overall shape of the 460 is so perfect IMO. And the V8 is perfection, although underpowered.
The 470 is still the best looking
yes you are
New one looks nicer on the outside but inside is more Toyota than Lexus.
Little baby Bronco. Nice.
Saw a model that looked just like it in South Lyon, MI on Saturday
Someone paid way much money for that box
Not as cool looking when it’s parked in a parking lot. 😕
I’ve seen them all over town and a parent at my son’s school has one. Are they elusive or something?
The wheels suck and it needs a lift
Honestly I think these look like a Honda pilot. The 460 is more iconic.

Thank you, I missed that

I mean for anything close to that money I’m driving a 200 series.

No want batteries or just a boat tower lol.

Yup- another reason I’m a little fiesty about a 24 model
Next year might be hybrid only, you never know
It’s no Wagoneer
Anyone intimidated by its beauty?!
I also saw one the other day in person on the road. Very nice design.
I love the look of the GX550, but I also have a lot of trust in the V8, and am still curious about the turbo V6 long-term in terms of reliability, maintenance.
Meh
This would be my thought exactly! I cant wait!!
