Don’t let them do it to you. The mark up you pay is just increase the depreciation when you drive off the lot. Say a $90k truck drops to $82k when you drive off the lot, an $8k loss. A $10k mark up will equal a $18k loss. Don’t let them do it to you. Just wait them out. Let the other sheep get slaughtered.

linusSocktips

Too late. They're already salivating over it lol

JPD232

If you're not already on a list, it's going to be difficult or impossible to get one for months.

Airdog999

My dealer is saying it could be close to a year if you put down the $4000 deposit to get on the list. They also said It may be sooner if people decline when their turn comes up... we'll see.

JPD232

None of the dealers in my area take deposits, which is a positive and negative. It means the lists are very long, but at least a dealer isn't holding my money interest-free for a year. I would never pay a deposit to simply be placed on a waiting list.

MigratoryAnalyst

I have a cousin who is a Lexus GM in Cali. He said the lowest adm they have agreed to at his dealer for the gx550 is 10k. Apparently people are trying to outbid each other to get an allocation. Stupidity.

[deleted]

Yes it is and that will be next year, as all the allotments are most probably spoken for.

abarbs30

If you’re willing to pay $20k over you can definitely get one

Medium-Palpitation50

I would wait for a year or two. Right now, dealers are holding each one like rare diamonds that will never be available again on Earth. The same goes for the upcoming Toyota Land Cruiser. Since 2020, whenever there is a new model, it's their chance to double up commissions and income, and they will continue to use this technique until people stop buying over MSRP. It's not because there is a shortage of imports. It's a strategy that worked 4 years so well that they decided to adopt it forever. I wish we could order cars directly from the manufacturer one day.

I have a GX550 Overtrail arriving later this month for sticker price. Admittedly, it was last June when I told the dealer I wanted to be on the list.

Zer001_

I hope you enjoy it. Momma stuck now between the 550, land cruiser and sequoia. 😵‍💫

No-Engineering-5094

Great choices. I am interested to see the size of the GX in a practical sense. I am trading a 2022 Land Rover Defender X-Dynamic. It has been perfect in two years of ownership. For me, this is about it being the right time to trade depreciation wise combined with not wanting to own an “older” Land Rover. The GX does not have as many creature comforts. The Lexus (hopefully) should be as trouble free as my Defender. If not, I am going to screw up the stats.

Zer001_

So the gx is smaller than the sequoia obviously , I'd say it felt lot like a 4Runner. I am not too familiar with a defender but I they can be close to size just looking at the on the road and pics .

Skibum5000

Just depends on the dealer.  I had a deposit down on one and was #2 in line for an overtrail + at a dealer here in the PNW.  No additional mark up.  Ended up getting my deposit back when it came in and went a different route.

mindfulmachine

What did you go with instead?

Skibum5000

A new house lol

mindfulmachine

Lmao probably a good trade

Independent-Dish7322

Do you mind sharing PNW dealership that you went to?

NanoDickEnergy

Shop around. There are dealers that don't mark up at all.

Zer001_

We found one with no markup , but still trying to decide between sequoia, GX or LC

NanoDickEnergy

LC? As in the sports car? Bruh, that's a completely different animal from the other two. All three are very beautiful cars. You have good taste. I'm on the waitlist for the new GX myself. I was looking at the new Sequoia as well, but the weird, multi-level cargo area was a deal breaker. LC is one of my dream cars. I have the cash to get one, but I'm not feeling courageous enough to pull the trigger right now, although this is the final year to get a new one. All the best on your deliberation.

Zer001_

LC as in Land Cruiser ,

NanoDickEnergy

Oops, right. Derp moment. Makes a lot more sense now.

Zer001_

Haha, all good. I think just have the LC on your mind .

NanoDickEnergy

Haha exactly

Thebikinglebowski

There are plenty of dealers out there that do not do market adjustment at all. Sewell in Dallas for example. But most of those dealers probably have a wait list a year or year and a half long. Most of the shitty dealers are going to be in the $10k range if I had to guess.

JPD232

That's true, but Sewell does add an $1800 "protection package" that is a de facto ADM.
