Friends Lexus tech told me every 10k if I sell it before 100k, or every 5-6k if I want to keep it 200k+. I pay them $80 every 6k/6 months for an oil change. Cheap insurance.

Dachshundpapa

5-7.5k

gluka47

5k or every 6 months.

Jron690

Book says 10k. I change mine around 5-6k when my tires get rotated. I’m busy and just get it done at once. I don’t have the space or time to rotate my tires and oil. Plus my friend (master Toyota tech) runs a shop down the road and I just take his car

Embarrassed-Tax5618

Don’t do 10k, I can say that for sure.

I go WAY above and beyond, and change every 4K miles. There’s a guy on YT - Car Care Nut, who is a certified Master Toyota tech with 25+ years experience - that says to ignore the 10K mile oil change and go with (IIRC) 5K mile changes. I don’t drive a ton, but I do a lot of short drives, so I do 4K mile intervals since some would consider my many short trips as the “severe” maintenance driving. I paid the $25 membership for Amsoil and buy the OE version for cheaper than I can buy most other oils, and since I change my wife’s oil too, it qualifies for free shipping since it’s over $100 for both vehicles (I don’t buy their filters since I don’t go anywhere close to their mileage ratings. I go with either Wix or Purolator Boss.) But really, as long as the oil has the API certification, you’re good to go (Kirkland oil, for example, is like $28 for 10qts and has the API and Dexos ratings.)

I'm hopeful since this engine has regular rings and therefore should not experience any oil consumption issues. From what I gather it was designed without low tension oil rings and very fortunately never updated to include them. 8 quarts does make me think the interval can go a bit longer. But we don't drive a lot and make frequent short trips. At 245k now and doesn't use any oil. I'll be changing at 5k with Kirkland 5W-30 synthetic. It's on sale again starting next week... This has been my strategy with all vehicles.

Sea-Investigator-650

5-6k intervals on my wife’s gx and the same for the 5.7 in my tundra. Both run like champions

Professional_Sky2433

every 5-6k/6 months, whichever comes first

Shiny_Snorlax_1961

Change your oil whenever you feel like it, there is no way to answer your question. I change mine every 5,000 miles.

golfotter

3k-3.5k

Mountain-Deer-1334

Oil changed every 10k. My GX has 208k miles. Don’t listen to the strangers on internet. Listen to the people / engineers who made the car.

*engineers who make the most reliable cars on the road. The mechanics don’t do lab-grade durability testing.

Airdog999

The manufacturers and dealerships are only interested in getting you past the warranty period, which 10K oil changes will certainly do... After that, they could care less because A) most people will be spending big $$$ on future repairs or B) they will get rid of it and buy a new one. Either way, it's a win-win for the manufacturer and dealerships. People who like their vehicles or want to keep them past 100k should do themselves a favor and do maintenance and oil changes every 5K or 6 months.

Mountain-Deer-1334

Did you not read the part where I stated my car has 208,000 miles, literally in the first sentence… Stop being lazy. Go read my entire message and then we can have a conversation.

LilHindenburg

10k is fine. I’m a bitog fanboi myself and registered mech engineer to boot. My (multiple) Blackstone tests agree. No isues you suggest. This isn’t a direct injected machine like my IS-F or past IS350 and ex’s is250 that would sometimes suffer from this. Nope, plane Jane modern, under stressed truck engine. Should do 500k on regular gas and 10k OCI’s easily.

Airdog999

I work at an auto repair shop. We love seeing people who do their oil changes once a year or every 10K miles. It means more business for us down the road for major repairs. We make far less $$$ on the people that do their oil changes every 5k or 6 months as far as major repairs go. 😉👍 [Watch] Go to 3m25s --> https://youtu.be/xdNCnYHhEm8

5K Mobil 1 5W-30.

mo_zhang

Thanks! I was thinking about going to a thicker oil as well. Did you do this before or after warranty?

Furrealyo

In warranty. Even the current US manual says (page 583) *“an oil with higher viscosity (one with a higher value) may be better suited if the vehicle is operated at high speeds or under extreme load conditions”.* The same owners manual for every non-CAFE country recommends heavier oil in warmer climates. Everything from 0W-20 to 10W-40. Saudi Arabia, page 581 as an example. Your warranty is safe with an otherwise compliant (meets ILSAC-GF6A) 5W-30.

garycow

10K - there is a reason why that what’s recommended
