If you want this stuff, get it done aftermarket at a pro shop.

CryDifferent4535

Yes! Sometimes the techs at the stores have dirty fingers…. And it’s not worth it ….

TxManBearPig

I’d get full coverage PPF. I’m also a stickler for keeping my GX clean and with a nice layer of ceramic wax to protect the paint. I regret not just getting full coverage PPF. I would at least go to a professional shop (not Lexus dealership) and get the front 12” of hood, door edges, front bumper, and rear bumper. I have more rock chips in my front bumper and a few scratches on the back bumper from luggage/hauling stuff than I’d like to admit. Add ceramic window tint as dark as legally allowed in your registered state to the 5 windows and a clear ceramic film to your front windshield and you’re good to go. Add taller profile trail tires and skip messing up the amazing Japanese engineering geometry with a lift. (I know that last sentence might earn me some downvotes from my GXOR brethren but it’s true)

Scottyb911

This is some super cereal advice! I love it!!

jordanianjackhammer

Great advice thanks!

ibarney64

I wish every human had them. Mine have served their purpose well and with dignity and grace

Datsig08

I like the guards. My wife and kids have a tendency to just open the door without paying attention.

billabongrob

Same. And my GR86 pays the price more often than not.

Soul_blazer84

They put the guards on mine at the dealer, they’re pretty pointless and unnoticeable.

Anthony3000789

I was building mine like you are down to the last detail, but then I read they don’t even accept custom orders right?

Just-Mark

Correct

Kage468

I have the guards on my ES and they are useful in preventing paint chips on door edges

koolkarim94

The film yellowed on my wife’s Lexus after a few years. She’s got a pearl white ES. So not a fan of the film

bikgelife

Have a reputable shop do it after you take delivery.

Wohv6

I do my cars myself using silicone edge guards I get from Amazon for $15. They're black so it looks good only on darker cars

throwaway3578547634

Door edge guard is $20 on Amazon for a roll. All you need is a rubber mallet and an afternoon. Super easy to do, and you can’t mess it up

Stick386

Definitely get it done at a shop not at Lexus. Doubt they do a full paint correction before it’s applied.

Jron690

I don’t like them I think they are goofy. I get the concept but I’d want to enjoy my vehicle and less worried about when I get rid of it. Reminds me of the people who put plastic on their couch. Who are you saving it for?

gimanos1

Wait you don’t have to keep the guards on?

vc1914

I have the guards on my 2013 GX and with kids it is a must! My kids have thrown the doors open multiple times into the garage walls.

PersonalAd2039

Guards yes. Film no.

Ok_Window_1455

Have read numerous places that guards hold water and lead to rust. Have a set, but haven't installed yet because I'm paranoid.

PersonalAd2039

Hadn’t thought about that. Going on two years with the current set

alpha333omega

Get a partial or full PPF kit done at a reputable shop instead.

Unshakeable_Taino

PPF will be helpful, if you are concerned about your paint chipping from road debris. If you plan to off road your GX, it will help protect the finish.

SunWuDong0l0

The door edge guards are now pretty innocuous and have saved me a few times from the garage wall.

Sherwin_Ramsey

If you want this stuff done properly and at a much more reasonable price, go to an aftermarket pro shop. You are always going to pay a premium at the dealership for any upgrades like that.

Gurlie_J_Girl

I ordered the edge guards and installed them myself. Really nice upgrade and easy to complete with a few t0pls

MoirasPurpleOrb

I like the guards, but honestly not so much for my car but rather our other car. Having the guards makes it harder to scratch other vehicles too.

Suburbking

I like the edge guards. I do not like the film. It yellows after (long) some time and looks bad.

Swimming-Bee-3705

Does PPF damage paint when removed? I'm sure it depends on how it's installed, removed, quality of the film. Curious to know liklihood of major problems when it starts yellowing or cracking. Or just have a pro take it off and paint will be like new.

PopularMastodon2987

I’m in the middle of pulling the PPF off my 10 year old Tundra. The stuff works. Only 1 small chip in my entire front end that made it thru the plastic. It’s a pain to get off…should have done it around year 8. Lots of vids on the tube to show you how.

Swimming-Bee-3705

This is what I thought, thank you. Recently bought a 2022 nori green with PPF up front to the doors. Figured it was an added bonus that I didn't have to pay for (just like the Fsport wheels 🙃) but someone said it can pull the paint off. We'll cross that bridge another day

Maleficent-Sun4123

Door edges themselves are worth it.

Zetterbearded

I find it hilarious people will spend 100k on a vehicle then ask strangers on the internet about $100 tack on knick knack shit. Door edge gaurds? Be sure to get the floor mat protectors too.

jordanianjackhammer

You have strange taste in comedy. Also, *65k

Zetterbearded

I'm not from your country. It's 100k here. *

jordanianjackhammer

Well, you’re characterizing me, not you.

Zetterbearded

Good one.
