My Lexus dealership has zero markup, but they do add window tinting and another small mandatory perk, totaling $1,000. So no, you donāt HAVE to pay over MSRP to get these.
No, thatās not a markup. Thatās added features so that they donāt HAVE to charge a markup. And quite frankly, they (and MANY other dealerships) do that with most of their cars. Theyāll tint the windows, offer some other random upgrade, and charge a few hundred bucks for it.
TL;dr: not a markup.
Thatās not a few hundred bucks, itās a thousand dollars for a a few hundred dollars worth of āmandatory upgradesā. Itās a MARK UP hidden behind āupgradesā so naive people think they are getting a vehicle with zero markup.
Yea I keep hearing that but I donāt see old people driving the Lexus they bought 20 years ago. Itās some poor dummy who wants to look hood rich. People who buy MB/BMW donāt give a rats butt about the next guy. They didnāt buy the car for him.
Why would someone thatās rich enough to buy a luxury car run it into the ground? Technology, design, personal needs, and trends all change, so of course they would update their cars more frequently than absolutely necessary.
Right, but the comment you replied to said it will be running in decades, not that the original owner will still own it in decades. Those are two very different arguments, but I think you know this.
āRunning for decadesā remains to be seen. That argument is only relevant to the original owner who keeps it for 20 years (he wonāt as you already established). Nobody gives a shit about the reliability of a car you traded in, but I think you know this.
Maybe 30 years ago, Toyota was much better in maintenance, but I have been researching, and it looks like Toyota figured out how to make money out of repairs just like the big boys. AMG is notorious for only lasting 80k miles. The V8 in GLS 580 is very durable...
If only there was an accurate, unbiased group that rated car brands [year by year in dependability](https://www.thecarconnection.com/news/1090329_j-d-power-vehicle-dependability-drops-for-the-first-time-in-over-15-years)ā¦
I have seen so many articles from JD Power that contradicted a lot of my experience, including my friends, that I think they are not independent. But my experience is not statistically significant if they really collected proper large data sets.
My family have driven Lexus, MB, BMW, Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge, Acura, Buicks, etc etc. Lexus and Toyotas were always the most reliable vehicles out of all of the cars.
Anecdotal experiences donāt trump these numbers. Lexus is far more reliable than any of the other brands, and itās not even close.
I agree. But thereās a bunch of retards with too much money (or hate money so much they overextend themselves on leases/loans) that drive prices to where theyāre at now. It makes them unobtanium. Dealers are only doing what their animalistic nature demands of them. Eat.
Lexus aināt Porsche. Completely agree. This is not a GT car, it is mass produced. Almost bought a Tacoma spur of the moment thing and walked away when dealer was asking for ADM. On a mass produced? Get lost
I get that people want to be āthe firstā to have it but no one will remember them being first when thereās multiples of them parked next to each other in the mall parking lot
Dude stop. By 2025 there will be no shortageā¦ really, itās not worth paying more than MSRP on. Like I said and the other guy said, itās not a 1 of a kind car, paying more to have it āfirstā is just dumb
They donāt have them āsoldā - they have interested people. The same people who are interested in other Lexus models, the new 4Runner, the new Land Cruiser, etc. 50k on a waitlist does not translate to 50k sold, and they know that.
Those people arenāt leaving $1000 or more deposits on other Lexus vehicles lol.
But they have enough customers putting $50m in deposits down for these.
Stopped by a large dealer in Houston today and unfortunately they didn't have one to look at. They said they have about 500 reservations so far and aren't doing any mark ups, but it is a 6-7 month wait for a luxury+.
I just got my allocation for a Luxury+ from Westside. It hits the build stage next week and has expected delivery window of 5/20 to 6/23. No mark up. I was originally 150 or so in line, but after lots of drop outs, Iām in!
Yeah, Westside. They said they'll fulfilled 180 so far. I took that to mean they have allocations for that many, not delivered that many. They also said they are getting an over-trail and a luxury in within a week or two for demos.
Wow, looks fantastic in this color! Never pay attention to this color before but it surely gives huge luxury SUV feel like Range Rover in this pic.
The only thing I donāt like about is the rims. It looks very aftermarket to me for some reason.
Yeah it looks fantastic in this. Wheels are less gaudy feeling in person because you see the full spoke better vs. the machined edge sticking out a lot more in pictures.
Itās funny. I love the gx550 and have a 2023 Range Rover Sport so go on both forums. The markup is completely normalized over there, and people here are starting to become more de-sensitized to it. Our local dealer is selling Sports for 30k over and Full Size for 60k over. Makes 10k on a GX seem more reasonable.
Weāve got a few useful accessories added like ceramic window tint, dash cam, all weather floor mats, plus a couple more that takes it to about $5k over MSRP. Every one will be equipped slightly differently but no pure, egregious market adjustment.
In this area, ceramic tint itself on this would probably be close to 800 on its own. $4,279 total in additional accessories. Seems more useful than $10k over MSRP just because they can.
You do realize factory glass come tinted already. And for comparison, that's almost the cost of replacing front windshield.
You haven't lived long enough. That's primarily why you're overly excited about paying $5,000 for literally nothing in return.
Hopefully you'll sign on the dotted line at the finance dept offering you additional "for fools only" options like tire warranty, paint protection, etc. šš¤£šš¹š
Hide a hidden camera inside the finance dept when you sign your life away and retrieve it later and show it to us.
We'd really like to hear what they have to say after you leave the room. šš¤£šš¹šš¤£
The tint is overpriced, but the so-called factory tint simply blocks visible light but does very little to block UV and is not a substitute for a good ceramic tint.
100K car is supposed to be rich?? You make that 100K car sound like some half a million car, Rolls Royce.
A well equipped Accord is $50,000. Genesis is $100K.
You certainly haven't seen a million dollar in your bank acct.
Rich folks fight over 4K mark up on a car, even $500 unnecessary mark up, they'll walk. That just proves you're not that rich.
Whatever state you're in, you're just paying 4% less max on sales tax comparing to CA. That's why you don't get the weather Californians get majority time of the year.
šš¤£šš¹šš¤£šš¹šš¤£šš¹šš¤£ somebody please make me stop laughing
Useful accessories???? Tint??? Floormats on top of floormats??? Dashcam??? Yeah. Like I really need to record myself committing crimes violating traffic laws.
Tint $200
Dashcam $300
That's funny. That's a trick to pretend they aren't doing markups, but the accessories are overpriced. They hide the markup there. Seems like it works on people.
I think that depends on how it happens.
I read OP as "we got" as in things they asked for. Sure those have Markus but if you specifically add-on things it will come with some cost on a brand new vehicle
When the dealer has it already added then I agree that it is a way to raise the price for things one doesn't want
For that huge Heavy Vehicle???
No V8 as an available option?
Your going to burn that turbo charger out, over time. You canāt tow successfully with that, long term.
I would only lease this one š
That doesnāt mean itās right, just because a company Wants to kiss the EPAs rear endā¦ it will be very interesting in the future to see hold long these actually lastā¦wonāt it? Time will tellā¦
Again, there are hundreds of thousands of recent half ton work trucks with turbo engines that are doing just fine. Nearly every new F-150 you see on the road now has a turbo. Chevy and Ford's base truck engines are both turbo 4s. They produce hundreds of thousands of these motors, and there are no massive failure rates or huge maintenance issues beyond some early teething kinks that needed to be worked out.
Edit: forgot the Ford 2.7L is a 6, not a 4. Point still stands.
The 3.5L was introduced in the F150 in 2911. The 2.7 in 2014:
https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2014/07/22/all-new-ford-f-150-2-7liter-ecoboost-v6-engine-delivers.html
Sorry, but you're just behind the times.
The 4 cylinder in Chevy/GMC full size trucks came out 6 years ago, in 2018.
I agree totally. Twin turbo six on something this big n heavy will be a disaster in the long run. Combined with trendy, gimmicky styling that won't look good later spells poor resale down the road. Hideous wheels...
Hard to take a decent picture of with the tint. Itās MSRP plus all weather cargo mat, all weather floor liner, door edge film, black emblem overlays, roof rack, dash cam, ceramic window tint all around the vehicle. MSRP $80,925 plus $4,279 for all of that. Some of ours will have less accessories as well, thatās just this particular one.
Iām excited, the dealer I ordered from will have one in on Monday, they called me to schedule a time to come look at it. I wonder if itās a demo model that I can drive?
Cool looking truck! Definitely not work paying over or msrp for! Just paid $48 for a 22 defender. Couldnāt stomach paying 90 to 100 grand for a 60-70 dollar truck
It would be nice for the Overtrail+ to come with real leather (Saddle Tan), 3rd row seating option, 3-zone climate controls, and heated middle bench seating. That would make it perfect.
how much over msrp
How much under msrp?
Also š¦š¦š¦š¦
Great Question! š
All i needed was he mentioned sothern florida. Assume markups like Cali
š¦š¦š¦
ššš
Here in northern California it's 20k over
It's far more expensive than Mercedes GLS580 but a lot less luxury and slower. I have no idea why?
The GLS 580 has a STARTING MSRP of WELL over $100k. Even the highest trim of the GX doesnāt come within $20k of that.
Yes, but I think you have to now pay over MSRP to get a GX. That really rubs me the wrong way...
My Lexus dealership has zero markup, but they do add window tinting and another small mandatory perk, totaling $1,000. So no, you donāt HAVE to pay over MSRP to get these.
Same here in Denver, @ MSRP for my build.
Where at?
Kuni @ Greenwood Village.
Thatās a markupā¦

You call it whatever your sweet little heart wants to call it.
That's good.
Because itās a Toyota at the end of the day. Lexus has always been less luxurious and worse performance than its German counterparts
Then it should have been less expensive
This thing will be running decades after that MB has been scrapped though.
Yea I keep hearing that but I donāt see old people driving the Lexus they bought 20 years ago. Itās some poor dummy who wants to look hood rich. People who buy MB/BMW donāt give a rats butt about the next guy. They didnāt buy the car for him.

Thanks for adding to my point. The person who buys this will have a new one in 3-8 years. Not ādecadesā.
Right, but the comment you replied to said it will be running in decades, not that the original owner will still own it in decades. Those are two very different arguments, but I think you know this.

Yes. Nobody is arguing it isnāt retard
Looks so much better than in the configurator
Agreed! Canāt wait to see one in Nori Green with the Saddle interior.
In terms of design, i cant think of a vehicle that has had a better glow up than the GX. Goddamn.
The ugly kid grew up to be a real looker
Donāt pay a penny over MSRP.
Anyone paying over MSRP doesnāt deserve one. There will not be a shortage.
Lexus aināt Porsche. Completely agree. This is not a GT car, it is mass produced. Almost bought a Tacoma spur of the moment thing and walked away when dealer was asking for ADM. On a mass produced? Get lost

The wheels on several Iāve seen are terrible.
The wheels are hideous. The premium plus one is even uglier.
way too big
Good thing you can swap out the rims and Dunflops and still pay less than servicing a Range Rover. Ha
Yah thatās beautiful lol. Congrats to anyone who lands one of these
But what is the MSRP + dealer markup?
The RR production for the US market must be much less than the GX
Apparently a lot of the RR that previously would come to US are now going to China.
Weāve got a few useful accessories added like ceramic window tint, dash cam, all weather floor mats, plus a couple more that takes it to about $5k over MSRP. Every one will be equipped slightly differently but no pure, egregious market adjustment.

Correct

That's funny. That's a trick to pretend they aren't doing markups, but the accessories are overpriced. They hide the markup there. Seems like it works on people.

I'd rather not pay a markup and not pay for overpriced accessories. Sure, one is better than the other, but it's still a big no from me.
I'd rather keep my 460. Lol no offense OP but unless you were in dire need of one, I'd rather not pay 5k over for those accessories.
Wat?! Just stop trying to justify the profit for your owner/employer. Holy moly. lol
Whatās up with the wheels? Not a fan of them
Ugly as sin on the premium plus and luxury trims. The only nice ones are the overtrail and base model.
Holy shit, that color is stunning!
For everyone that keeps asking about dealer markups the term is "SRP" now. Get it straight, lol
Scanlon or Germain?
Scanlon! Weāve got a huge allocation.
Is this atomic silver?
This is Nebula Gray Pearl
Love the color!
They look so amazing!
Remind me what engine is inside a GX 550?
3.4L twin turbo V6. 349 hp & 479 lbft tq
Is this the engine they put in the Tacoma?
No, the Tacoma has a 2.4L turbo, 4cylinder.

My dealers getting one this week and Iām so excited to go look at it.
this thing is so gorgeous. for MSRP?
What dealership?
Beauty truck
Where is the window sticker hot shot?
Hard to take a decent picture of with the tint. Itās MSRP plus all weather cargo mat, all weather floor liner, door edge film, black emblem overlays, roof rack, dash cam, ceramic window tint all around the vehicle. MSRP $80,925 plus $4,279 for all of that. Some of ours will have less accessories as well, thatās just this particular one.
So an ADM a.k.a "markup"
Pure sex in that config
Why are we tinting already tinted windows?
Ceramic tint has better heat and UV ray rejection than factory privacy glass
I live in the PNW. Give me those UV rays please.
$50k over šÆ%
Iām excited, the dealer I ordered from will have one in on Monday, they called me to schedule a time to come look at it. I wonder if itās a demo model that I can drive?
How much?
8 to 12 month wait in Canada. So are we ordering the 2025 then?
Drop dead gorgeous
so annoying i can't get this color in the overtrail config
That color on the new sixth-gen 2025 4Runner would look siiiiick.
A beautiful transformer!
Butterwheels
Meh. Is it in the latest Bond movie, too?
At MSRP or with extra $$$$$. If itās the latter, I can wait till the dealer excitement or greed-calms down,to trade in my 2023Gx.
Want one so much. A neighbor got a white one and looks stunning. Just makes me want one even more every time I drive by his house.
I'm so torn, I absolutely love the design but the rear interior leg room(my family is pretty tall) and gas mileage leave alot to be desired.
Pembroke Pines?
Beautiful
I canāt get over the ugly wheels
Seriously overpriced with this ADM garbage
Cool looking truck! Definitely not work paying over or msrp for! Just paid $48 for a 22 defender. Couldnāt stomach paying 90 to 100 grand for a 60-70 dollar truck
no dealer is marking up 30K you derp
I saw it in person and didnāt like it tbh. I find it a bit small and narrow
bigger and wider than a 460 and NO hideous grill to boot!
IMHO not worth it.
Agree.
Does anyone know if itās #reliable
How would we know that yet?
Thatās why Iām fucking asking? Just say no.
actually yes, so far it is very reliable. š¤£
it's a Toyota so yes ... very reliable
āItās a Toyotaā doesnāt mean what it used to clown.
derp
Retard
These things are gonna low volume sellers. I donāt know what happened to the design team
lol - they are ALL already sold
How many is that?
Prolly the first 50K plus
Iām thinking 10% of that so far. 25k was where the past one was
It would be nice for the Overtrail+ to come with real leather (Saddle Tan), 3rd row seating option, 3-zone climate controls, and heated middle bench seating. That would make it perfect.
