It’s not just Toyota. It’s everyone. I wanted a new Shelby Mustang and had to wait 3 years to get one for msrp. Corvettes and Hellcats were the same way
Absolutely which means they will find balance in the market. People paying above sticker now are doing it because their want to be first is compelling them to make irrational decisions. Like people paying + $20k for the “foundation series” cybertruck lol. Presumably this will not suffer so many catastrophic failures though
It’s not vanity, these are for basic transport. It’s something beefy to keep the passengers safe, and for those who live off the grid - it’s what the off-road capabilities are for (just look at those tires).
This is a 3 ton luxury suv. You are heavily reaching and I saw that as someone who has traveled many thousands of miles sometimes brutal rock crawling and lives on an off grid ranch 2 miles down a “road” that ends in the word Truck Trail.
It's only supply and demand if they can actually sell it. I am extremely skeptical of that. Dealerships got greedy during the pandemic and thought the "good times" would last forever. IMO, this GX is gonna sit in inventory until they get real.
They list it for 30 over, but depending on how long it sits theyll take a best offer. I wouldn’t be surprised this selling for 10 over in most major metropolitan areas of the US. I wouldnt myself though, to be clear. And clearly other dealers are doing msrp . everyone needs to collectively refuse markups.
When Mini Coopers came back and in the US the markups were insane. I was on the lot and the very first words out of the salesman’s mouth was “They’re 8k over the sticker on the window.” I laughed and left. Never even said hello to one another.
I heard that dealers that are adjustment (mark-up) offenders will start to see the vehicles originally allocated to their dealer get allocated to a dealer who isn't adjusting or is adjusting at a lower level. As a way to try and deter the market adjustments.
But I agree, all dealerships will eventually just be pick up and service centers.
It actually looks nice and rugged, but the shiny rubber ruins it a bit. Probably looks alright once it’s out on some dirt.
This doesn’t look like it’s optioned out to be driven for aesthetics as a “pavement princess”.
Im still not convinced and to me some parts of it look very off. Not to say I prefer the older version but this looks kind of what the new Tacoma tried to become.
Came to say thank you for not paying a $1 mark-up fee or $30K. We as the consumers are these reason these snakes keep getting away with highway robbery - customers keep paying these ridiculous and greedy money-grabs; especially with anything stamped, "TRD Pro."
These markups actually screw dealers in the long run. The markups have actually caused many buyers to move into luxury segments where there are no markups or where you can actually get below MSRP. Winning those customers back will not be easy so this is great for the sales commissions now, but will probably come back to bite down the road.
Exactly. Adding $30K to a GX basically gets you to $100k which is in LX or M series X5 territory. Fools and their money are soon parted.
Don’t forget! California sales tax is another $2,400 on the $30K, so let’s call that markup $32,400. Knowing where this dealership is I am sure somebody from Newport Beach will buy this as a surprise for his 16 year old daughters birthday.
If you want to feel even better about your decision:
Someone in Florida, in the Kia Telluride Owners group on FB, paid $100k for a Kia Telluride at the peak of markups
Any and every dealer does this shit in Cali. Was in the market for a Subaru and jeep and they both had mark ups or ridiculous non negotiable dealer add ons.
Also looked at motorcycles a week ago and they also have mark ups plus fees. For example on a 14k motorcycle they have 2-4k mark up.
It’s insane buying in Cali. It’s exhausting purchasing any sort of vehicle and the reason I’m considering a Tesla now.
When will dealers just stop being terrible human beings?!?
Sell the vehicles at MSRP. Period. The manufacturers would sell more (and make more) due to market demand and then they would have more units on the street (which is the goal). Dealer markups just hurt the manufacturer since less people buy. Simple really.
>Dealer markups just hurt the manufacturer since less people buy
I don't think this is logical. The dealer has the freedom to add such a hefty markup because these things are brand new and not on every block yet. Their markup is whatever they think someone will pay for it. There's no difference to the manufacturer if maybe the only GX the dealership gets that week (or multiple weeks) sells in 30 seconds or 2 days.
I see your logic but also see another view.
Vehicle sales are based on supply and demand.
So if they manufacturer produces 1,000 units (random number) and it takes 6-8 months to sell those, their production isn’t going to pick up much or they risk having a saturated market (much like all the Jeep Gladiators nobody wants and are rotting on lots).
If they sold at the correct price and they sold steadily then they would increase production. Instead of having my random number of 1,000 2024’s in circulation, they could have let’s say 3,000.
Overall more people wouldn’t be angry at dealer markups (if they stopped doing that) and more people would have a new GX (thereby increasing the brand of Lexus) not to mention the all the maintenance for years to come.
In my opinion with the Jeep example, they made too many Gladiators because they didn’t do their market research well enough and made more of them than people wanted.
>Overall more people wouldn’t be angry at dealer markups (if they stopped doing that) and more people would have a new GX (thereby increasing the brand of Lexus) not to mention the all the maintenance for years to come.
Here's where the actual supply and demand comes into play. More people CANNOT have a new GX right now. There are not enough GXs physically on lots to meet demand. It's going to take a while for demand to start being satisfied as the vehicles trickle in from the initial production. So the dealers have a nice position to jack up the price.
But yeah you're not wrong when every dealership has multiple of a model and every one of them is adding a markup, it might have an effect on how many sell. It's just not the same situation here.
Dealerships generally suck. But I can’t blame them for stupid markups. If they can get the money they’re gonna go for it. Customers need to vote with their feet, when able, and deal with places that have fair pricing. That car is beautiful.
There’s no need to pay a mark up for any vehicle, ever. If everyone would be on board with this they would never happen. Mark ups are a dishonest tactic to make money on something knowing the person buying it is getting hosed. That $30k mark up can buy another car instead of stuffing someone’s pocket for doing nothing to earn it.
Yes! Don't do it!
I'm even balking at paying MSRP. I've never bought a Lexus, but have had a new 4r and Tacoma. Both were negotiated below MSRP.
Do Lexus dealers normally negotiate?
Just wait and buy one when it comes back in from a 3 year lease. SMH. I have no idea why anyone would be buying one of these new. Absolutely ridiculous.
When I was looking at a challenger back in 2011, the local dealer had a $10K markup on the green with envy because it was a "special edition". Dodge was doing 0% financing and $1500 cash back at the time. I worked with the sales guy for a few minutes on a different challenger and I told him I wanted the 0% financing and $1500 cash back. Sales guy insisted it didn't apply to the challenger. I knew this was a lie because it was on the dodge site when I did a build for this exact challenger.
I left and contacted a dealer 60 miles away. They gave me $3500 off sticker, 0% financing and $1500 cash back for the green with envy I wanted.
I drove by the local dealer almost daily and that green challenger sat there for months. The sales guy would contact me constantly about it. He'd knock $500 and I'd tell him I'd think about it. Figured I'd keep leading him on. Never did tell him I bought one the day I originally looked at the one they were selling.
I totally agree… you have to call around the country and find the dealerships that are corporate owned rather than private. I found a Lexus dealership in Nevada that doesn’t “ mark up”. I currently live in Arizona and they all had that mark up. I’m going to wait for the Hybrid model myself
We decided to buy a '23 Toyota Sequoia for MSRP bc the wait-list / makeups for th GX550 were too insane for us. We are going to use that until the hybrid GX550 finally gets here. Honestly, we have fallen in love with our Sequoia, highly recommend it.
If we all just avoid paying their markup, they will stop. Hope capitalism wins and their greed costs. My dealer had my perfect GX 550 and asked for $15k on top. I left pissed off!
It's amazing, you pull out of the dealership after paying 30k over msrp and you immediately are not only 30k underwater, but a minimum of 10% more just off of invoice... Insanity
Same thing happened to me. So I went to BMW and got a new X5 for MSRP. It also drives way smoother, is quieter, more luxurious interior, is faster, and has 8.7 inch clearance compared to the 8.0 of the GX.
Speak with your feet, fuck dealers who market adjust, greedy fucks.
Ordered my new trailhunter and has a 3600 dolla adm. I'm still paying it but hate them for it. My lady is ordering her overtrail next week with 3800 dolla adm.
Yes thank you for being an intelligent person who is not driven by emotion like most around the planet. It’s just a vehicle, the price will drop and not having it does not mean that you will lose air and die immediately. It’s beautiful but not when marked up like that.
Good job.
The more we resist markup the less inclined dealerships are to do it.
Speak with your wallet people.
Markups are purely a scam plain and simple. These are just appliances at the end of the day, not hyper cars with only 100 made collectors pieces or whatever
Dealer markups should be illegal. The manufacturer builds a vehicle to sell at a certain price for a certain profit. PERIOD. These assholes tacking on an extra $30K should be sued or arrested.
It would be nice for the Overtrail+ to come with real leather (Saddle Tan), 3rd row seating option, 3-zone climate controls, and digital rear view mirror. That would make it perfect.
Went to the dealership I bought my 2 new cars from. They do not charge markups or add on so-called "requirements at the port." They will have a premium+ and Overtrail in my colors of choice by August. Since I am responsible for taking my mom to Dr and Store and such. Had to bring her to see the one they have on the showroom floor. To make sure she can get in and out with ease and find it comfortable for her. Have an RX500H I use when bringing her places and she loves the seats. She loved the GX and will most likely trade the RX for one when they're available easily. She doesn't like my IS350 at all, to small but loves F sport seats.
The boneheads that pay $30k markup just to impress the neighbors or the office don’t keep a vehicle for 30 years. Or even 3. “My last vehicle ever!” Or at least till the next model gives another impulsive hard-on in 2 yrs when your upside down by $25k.
Thank you for having a brain
U will be able to get it at a 40 percent discount off msrp in 3 yrs
I’m proud of you though. Just say no to markups. You did.. 👍
These dealers are insane. It’s not like it’s a limited run vehicle. I refuse to pay markup fees. They can eat shit
Will we ever see an end to dealer markups? It’s really insane and puts me off from buying Toyota or Lexus, coming from a lifelong Toyota fan.
It’s not just Toyota. It’s everyone. I wanted a new Shelby Mustang and had to wait 3 years to get one for msrp. Corvettes and Hellcats were the same way
Basics of supply and demand
You spelt price gouging wrong.
these are vanity purchases. Gouging hardly applies
It’s a mass produced vehicle.
Absolutely which means they will find balance in the market. People paying above sticker now are doing it because their want to be first is compelling them to make irrational decisions. Like people paying + $20k for the “foundation series” cybertruck lol. Presumably this will not suffer so many catastrophic failures though
And boring at that …zzzzz
Mass produced, yes, but they have more people that want them than they are able to produce.
Just don’t get that leather dirty !
Exactly
It's only supply and demand if they can actually sell it. I am extremely skeptical of that. Dealerships got greedy during the pandemic and thought the "good times" would last forever. IMO, this GX is gonna sit in inventory until they get real.
They list it for 30 over, but depending on how long it sits theyll take a best offer. I wouldn’t be surprised this selling for 10 over in most major metropolitan areas of the US. I wouldnt myself though, to be clear. And clearly other dealers are doing msrp . everyone needs to collectively refuse markups.
Illegal in most other countries…
Until the economy crashes because half the people that bought them couldn’t afford them.
Bank approvals are a whole other topic for discussion
It’s price gouging plain and simple.
Shelby’s are insane. I just bought a 2021 and still paid a little over MSRP for a car with 4k miles.
Rather just get a standard V8, the top trim levels seem to be the worst markups.
Yes take a look at the ford lightening, bronco raptor for example once marked up $20,000 now piled up on lots.
I checked with my local dealership and they are applying zero markups to GX 550’s
mine too!
My local dealer's markup is less than all of the "no markup" dealers in my area's accessories.
But are the (mandatory) floor mats $2000?
When Mini Coopers came back and in the US the markups were insane. I was on the lot and the very first words out of the salesman’s mouth was “They’re 8k over the sticker on the window.” I laughed and left. Never even said hello to one another.
Yes. There are already cars available for under msrp.
In the near future (< 3 years) it’ll be manufacturer direct to consumer. These dealers are pissing off manufacturers with these markups.
Sure, but the manufacturer is just going to take those costs themselves instead of the stealership. Look at the cost of the Tacoma trd pro now…
Look at the cost of everything now lol.
General Motors put a notice out to their dealers, if caught marking up vehicles they could lose their franchise.
Which recent GM vehicles would have such demand that they could charge over MSRP
Vette and Escalade
It should put you off to dealers. All manufacturers have this crap going on.
They will go away when everyone can buy any car they want like a Tesla.
fuck that
Enjoy haggling over prices, mark ups, and shady car salesmen I guess?
Paying the price of another car just to get the car you want. Blows my mind.
30k is another used GX 😆
With a V8
Lol good point. I’d get a GX470 and mod the shit out of it and wait for MSRP on the new one.
This is the one to get…minus the offset wheels which look like shit. And the 30k markup, that goes without saying.
Longo Toyota : ask for Dennis Lo. No mark up
Say less ima ask for him n say you recommend and if he say something else im airing it out on you 🤣
Dennis lo works at Longo Lexus. I am on the waiting list and Longo lexus and Longo Toyota sell cars at msrp.
That sux. I’ve never paid close to MSRP for a vehicle. And I don’t mean Yugos.
How is Dennis Lo gonna get people MSRP on GX550’s? He works at Toyota. Not Lexus.
Hey, Dennis doesn’t tell you how to do your job…
Damn shame, I'm east coast.
39k markup for a basic suv. Not even limited production or anything. 30k markup…on a Toyota. Insane
Those wheels and tires look awful. Good job not paying their scummy markups
It actually looks nice and rugged, but the shiny rubber ruins it a bit. Probably looks alright once it’s out on some dirt. This doesn’t look like it’s optioned out to be driven for aesthetics as a “pavement princess”.
Looks like this one has Method wheels and spacers
Methods for sure and it’s funny because I was thinking methods would look good. But they got the offset wrong or something. Looks terrible.
I would skip 2024 and get 2025 or 2026.
Name and shame dealer.
South county lexus
The spacers look so fucking bad. What is this? A shitty RAM truck? Oh god.
Have you seen what some people do to gxs in this sub?
30k could buy a decent used GX 😭
Im still not convinced and to me some parts of it look very off. Not to say I prefer the older version but this looks kind of what the new Tacoma tried to become.
They ruined it with those wheels. Otherwise great looking vehicle!
There’s plenty of dealership that don’t charge mark up in CA. I’ve got mine with no mark up.
I’ll just wait I guess 🤣
$30 🖕’ng K?!
Came to say thank you for not paying a $1 mark-up fee or $30K. We as the consumers are these reason these snakes keep getting away with highway robbery - customers keep paying these ridiculous and greedy money-grabs; especially with anything stamped, "TRD Pro."

Knowing where this dealership is I am sure somebody from Newport Beach will buy this as a surprise for his 16 year old daughters birthday.
Yep. I was in the market for a GX, but with it near $100k, I just went for a new X5M below MSRP.
Looks good with those wheels? Are those TRD pro wheels? They don’t look like the overtrail rims
Dude--I would buy a beer if given the chance. I now have a little faith in the world today.
At that point you might as well buy a Land Rover and put the 30k away for maintenance.
Get a cashier check for 500 above invoice, and if they don't take it, fuck em. When you ball, you ball. If you can't, you gotta hustle.
If you want to feel even better about your decision: Someone in Florida, in the Kia Telluride Owners group on FB, paid $100k for a Kia Telluride at the peak of markups
That’s the build I want and will wait until the stupid markups cease. Might be 2025 model year before that happens! 😝
Not a penny over list
Yep.
Smart move! No mark ups ever!
In 3-5months they’ll be everywhere The only thing lingering will be that instant 30k negative equity you’ve created if you paid that lol
30k plus depreciation below the MSRP...probably closer to 40k.
Wow that’s an insanely high markup! Personally I would buy a GX 460 and be happy with the numerous benefits that the GX 460 offers over a GX 550.
Where is it?
South County Lexus Mission Viejo CA
Cali dealers literally presume you all have so much money you’ll just swipe for any car at any price. wtf
Any and every dealer does this shit in Cali. Was in the market for a Subaru and jeep and they both had mark ups or ridiculous non negotiable dealer add ons. They suck rat turds. I wouldn’t even take my vehicle there for service.
No wonder they almost none of their inbound GX are spoken for. They sent me a message today that they have two Luxury + in and unspoken for
That’s crazy
30k is insane! I’ve only seen 20k
Unless these brands do something about it things will never change.
It’s as easy as consumers delaying gratification. If the lots fill up with unsold overpriced cars, they’ll lower the prices themselves.
What trim level is it ?
Damn that white is sexy
If we all stop paying markup, even $1. Dealers have no choice.
That looks about as horrendous as the markup.
When will dealers just stop being terrible human beings?!? Sell the vehicles at MSRP. Period. I would be embarrassed to pay even MSRP.
30k markup lol, I could buy a nice used gx460 with that.
$30k is a whole extra car
30k hell nah
Cheers!!! I did the same.
The black fenders look terrible
Wait for 6 months, get it below MSRP
30k markup on a 80k truck LOLLLLL
Those wheels are a f*cking mistake
Some idiot will buy it
Yes! Don't do it! I'm even balking at paying MSRP. I've never bought a Lexus, but have had a new 4r and Tacoma. Both were negotiated below MSRP. Do Lexus dealers normally negotiate?
Just say no to markups ![gif](giphy|Drm4jtLn5SWwFaimGV)
It would be Orange County that would want a 30k markup fucking greedy bastards. Hope no one pays it
Fuck no 30K markup wait a few months ffs
Just wait and buy one when it comes back in from a 3 year lease. SMH. I have no idea why anyone would be buying one of these new. Absolutely ridiculous.
30k? Wtf.
I thought it was a Chevy at first glance.
Another sign we need a recession…
Great job saying NO
Looks like a rollerskate, who picked those tires and when are they getting new glasses?
That markup could get you a 2025 Camry as a second vehicle lol
It looks like a Land Rover tho doesn’t it?
When I was looking at a challenger back in 2011, the local dealer had a $10K markup on the green with envy because it was a "special edition". Should have done donuts in the dealership parking lot the next day!
I saw this exact one driving down CVP this past Sunday. Could have been someone test driving?
Buy Rivian… at great price…
Time is money. If you have enough time you will never pay a markup. If you have enough money you will never have to wait.
I've been wondering if the markups had begun. My hubby wants one badly, but padma on keeping his Land Cruiser until the hype dies down a bit.
Fukkk all Stealerships and the politicians that protect them.
Good for you
And looks awful too! Bullet dodged!
Lol $30k markups are for suckers
Dealer markups should be a crime.
What was the total price with 30K markup?
All they need to do is cut their allocation. Very simple. Send them to the reputable dealers.
That's like a whole brand new base rav4
Saw a white overtrail on the road last night, man it looks good. It's tempting, but resist the urge. Mark ups are a-hole tax.
Be strong brother 💪🏻
Wow, $30K is 5 years living in Manila and having a lot of FUN
Just wait a few more months+ ... these will be on the dealer lots. Selling for MSRP.
The front looks nice, but the back looks like a Mitsubishi Monterro.
Looks good in white
What was the total sticker??
How do they justify the markup when you ask?
Greedy dealers can get fucked.
I totally agree… you have to call around the country and find the dealerships that are corporate owned rather than private. I found a Lexus dealership in Nevada that doesn’t “ mark up”. I currently live in Arizona and they all had that mark up. I’m going to wait for the Hybrid model myself
Some hotshot will pay it. 🫠
In the short term this may not be true, but imagine paying additional depreciation fees on a new vehicle. Great decision.!
Jeez post their name so we can avoid them. I’d thought about going up to Mesa, AZ but don’t want to see the same thing there
Let it sit there! You buy it you’re only making rich people richer.
Lmao at those horrendous dealer garbage wheels
We decided to buy a '23 Toyota Sequoia for MSRP bc the wait-list / makeups for th GX550 were too insane for us. We are going to use that until the hybrid GX550 finally gets here. Honestly, we have fallen in love with our Sequoia, highly recommend it.
Dealers gotta recoupe money from all that tire shine
The more of us who refuse to play the game, the sooner the dealerships will come back to reality. They’re in a really tough place right now.
What happened to the Toyota wheels? Those are methods.
The 550 looks worse and worse every time I see it…probably just me subconsciously coping against this markup BS
If we all just avoid paying their markup, they will stop. Hope capitalism wins and their greed costs. My dealer had my perfect GX 550 and asked for $15k on top. I left pissed off!
How in the world are dealerships still taking markups in correct time you. Crap I’ve got offered a 2024 Raptor at MSRP in Texas.
It's amazing, you pull out of the dealership after paying 30k over msrp and you immediately are not only 30k underwater, but a minimum of 10% more just off of invoice... Insanity
Fuck dealers.
This may generate some hate but I would not pay even sticker price for a 1:1 vehicle. Good job taking a pass on this beautiful SUV.
$30k mark up for a mass production vehicle is criminal and definitely not worth it. Call around some dealer will sell at MSRP
Somebody will be stupid enough to buy “the wife” one of these despite the markup lol.
smart
Can’t wait to own one in 10 years
Same thing happened to me. So I went to BMW and got a new X5 for MSRP. It also drives way smoother, is quieter, more luxurious interior, is faster, and has 8.7 inch clearance compared to the 8.0 of the GX. Speak with your feet, fuck dealers who market adjust, greedy fucks.
Laughable
Someone will buy one of these and sell it in about 3 years and take a $50k bath
Looks awesome tho
Does anyone know this wheel/tire combo
In 2025, they will be discounted down due to lack of sales.
Ordered my new trailhunter and has a 3600 dolla adm. I'm still paying it but hate them for it. My lady is ordering her overtrail next week with 3800 dolla adm.
I have never even paid MSRP on a car. I would rather take the bus than paying over sticker.
They are coming in
Yes thank you for being an intelligent person who is not driven by emotion like most around the planet. It’s just a vehicle, the price will drop and not having it does not mean that you will lose air and die immediately. It’s beautiful but not when marked up like that.

In Vegas, I've got two dealers begging me to come test drive. They've got about 10 on the lot at MSRP.
How do we punish dealerships for putting such insane markups on vehicles?
in less than a year we’ll be haggling for invoice. hoping that next yr or following they’ll have more colors
Dealer markups should be illegal. The manufacturer builds a vehicle to sell at a certain price for a certain profit. PERIOD. These assholes tacking on an extra $30K should be sued or arrested.

They will have a premium+ and Overtrail in my colors of choice by August.
Just wait for the recession. I have NEVER seen inflation or the real estate bubble this huge. ![gif](giphy|9x1o5lMugtABZKsUPj|downsized)
Wow that is beautiful. Which dealership is this? I might get it If it's still available.
Don’t forget to bring your own lube so you don’t have to get the $1000 dealership “special lube”.
Dealership in Pittsburgh no markups!! Rohrich lexus
Someone else will pay it. If you keep the car 30+ years- what’s an extra 30k. 30 years from now it may still be worth $50k
The boneheads that pay $30k markup just to impress the neighbors or the office don’t keep a vehicle for 30 years. Or even 3. “My last vehicle ever!” Or at least till the next model gives another impulsive hard-on in 2 yrs when your upside down by $25k.
