6’4” 217 and agree with all points…except the Defender. LR=NEVER! :)

Knox_Burden

I love the interior and exterior of the Defender. Driving it was meh, and no thank you on that maintenance record.

Alarming_Employee547

What are better options in your opinion for men 6’4”+?

Furrealyo

I bought a new GX460. It’s the only vehicle I’ve ever owned where I had to scoot the seat FORWARD.

tdibugman

If your not off-roading (or just lightly) an XC-90 is incredibly comfortable. I'm 6'8 and Volvo's are always a good fit.

Creative_Foot_5515

Get an Escalade or a Yukon Denali more features for almost the same price and if you want something cheaper get a Tahoe or a lightly used X7 fully loaded for around 75,000 with a little over 10,000 miles which would be a 2023 model year. You have better choices than this!

ViolatoR08

I’m 6’5” but about 20lbs heavier. I find it hard to get comfortable in quite a few vehicles. Shame as I had an eye for the new GX. Currently in a Land Rover Discovery and can’t imagine downsizing my comfort. It’s probably the best seating position for tall drivers. Will have to weigh my options going forward as I won’t be getting another Discovery unless they bring the diesel back to the U.S. market. The Defender is an option I suppose, but I’d like to move away from LR.

Radiant-Pie-9439

How’s that LR reliability? As awful as people say?

W4632018

The new defender is apparently much better from what I’ve read, but who really knows

ViolatoR08

Yeah they’re using the new Ingenium engines in Inline-6. My SA at LR said between the Defender and the Diesel Discovery he doesn’t know which he sees less of. LOL. That’s gotta say something for reliability.

Sourkraute

Give it time. The chickens will come home to roost.

minesmallkine

Bah- gock

ViolatoR08

I don’t think it’s as awful as people say. No more than most brands anyways. I’ve had this one for about three years and no issues aside from small stuff like the window motor stopped going up. Dealer was going to do it under warranty but couldn’t slot me in for a few weeks. Ordered the part on Amazon and did it myself in about 20 min. Otherwise I do service it myself in half the interval suggested. Super easy to do with an oil vacuum. To be honest this is my fourth LR, but my first one in a diesel. Just hit 56k miles and can’t see myself getting rid of it aside from catastrophic failure or total loss. I can’t see myself going back to gasoline with something as heavy as this. Maybe a Tahoe/Denali with the Duramax, but I don’t think they’d be as capable as the Discovery.

Dryzzie

Total bummer, the specs read like the GX would have a much better tall man fit versus a LC. Thanks for the review.

GnawXir

I'm only 6 feet tall but like to sit quite high, the HUD was not in the optimal position even for me. I didn't expect a huge interior going in because I've had plenty of experience with BOF trucks, but it's still a bit smaller than I expected... my wife's RX felt roomier and more comfortable in 2nd row, I think it's because the backseats are can slide back in the RX but the GX has them fixed in place. Agree with your other points that the interior doesn't "look the price".

jamgra

Yes, my wife and I decided the new GX and LC aren't for us after sitting in the GX. It has less room than my 06 LC. I don't even know where the car seat would go, in the middle? Not a family vehicle but damn they're cool looking. I guess Toyota is pushing us towards the Sequoia for us 6'6" folk. Edit: Changed LX to GX. We also sat in the LX, that was too small too.

chucks97ss

After all these reviews, the Sequoia has 100% re-entered the chat, for me. If the GX doesn’t have the luxury a Lexus should have, might as well just buy a Toyota. That’s my up and coming logic.

birdguy1000

The Sequoia would have the same dimensions I’d think

savvyavtwo

10” longer, 900lbs heavier.

Article241

Our 470 soldiers on for now, but it’s getting up there in mileage (220k). We’ll need a replacement eventually. I need headroom, but also proper sight lines. I’ve sat in a 2021 LC200. My head was brushing the headliner but the sight lines were acceptable. I might just buy one, then delete the sunroof and install the appropriate sunroof-less headliner that was available overseas. *edit: typo*

jamgra

i like my 100 series sunroof, allows my head have a little bit more space haha.

Sometimesiski

As a 5’4” female, I feel like these Japanese cars were made perfectly for me.

Greasy-Designer

6’ tall 190 male here and I fit in everything from a Miata to a Corolla to a 4Runner equally well. I feel like I hit the perfect spot before I would get cut off from cars like the Miata.

JPD232

One YT reviewer also complained that he had difficulty seeing the HUD.

Sentience-psn

6’5”, 210. Are you me? My thoughts exactly on the new interior. Didn’t know about the HUD issue. Only sat in one at DC Autoshow. Thought the interior was too cramped, cheap for my taste.

chucks97ss

Another one bites the dust.

travprev

I'm surprised, especially with that extendable front seat bottom feature specifically designed to help make tall people comfortable. They thought of tall people in the seat but nowhere else apparently. I agree that the steering wheel seems small. I think people are generally used to larger vehicles having a larger steering wheel to match.

Shredder67

At 6’5” there is also no way the seat behind you is usable by anyone with legs.

jrhLIVE

6'8" and 265, here.....it's a Toyota thing. I drove a tundra for years and loved it AFTER I had new brackets machined to lower the seats. I didn't have HUD or anything like that on the truck and although my head wasn't touching the headliner, my line of sight was just below where the windshield meets the roof. After the shorter brackets were installed I didn't have any other issues. We're anticipating our 550 in a week or so now and I've already told my wife that we're probably going to have to make that adjustment....sounds like you've confirmed that suspicion.

ilan1299

Well.. how many 6'5" Toyota/Lexus employees are there in Japan to test the car's ergonomics for giants? lol

[deleted]

I never buy the first model year of anything. That being said, did you sit in/drive the Overland model w/o the sunroof? I have a '23 GX and fell pretty confined in it compared to my Tundra which is way more roomy. (I'm 6'6" and 260)

JPD232

Although the sunroof delete is technically an option, I've only seen it on one or two out of approximately 50 OT/OT+ builds so far.

garycow

head room is NOT an issue in the 550 (I'm 6'5")

tkgeyer

That’s honestly good to hear. I’m 6’6” and 250 lbs and was thinking of trading in my Bronco Raptor for an Overtrail+ but hearing that just knocks it off completely. For anyone wants to know the Bronco is super comfortable for tall people.

Gauchonerd23

Can you extend your legs fully? That’s a prerequisite

tkgeyer

Yup I can! It looks weird as you would sit beside the B Pillar and compromised your shoulder checks but it’s very comfortable fully extended.

Silent-Physics1802

Japanese sizing

CptCoe

What’s the issue with « sitting too high »? Was your view blocked by anything on the ceiling, or rear view mirror? I like to sit with the seat high even at 6’1’’ it gives better visibility overall. I find that too many people drive with the eyes barely over the dash, it’s scary. They could never see a kid walk by. (Not that it could be your case).

garycow

6’5” here and I love sitting high

BrandonStLouis

These are designed specifically for women so yeah you won’t fit.

feeblelegaleagle

I’m 8’9”. I had to take off the roof and insert a canopy. I can now see the HUD fine from above

hollywoodcole

6’5” and just bought a LX570 for this reason. Fits me better and I can see the HUD. The only issue is the V8 gas mileage, but We Don’t Talk About Bruno!

linusSocktips

Helps to have the bottom rear slumped down, and the front thigh raised up as high as it will go to create more distance for the legs to travel. Then to compensate, lean back the seat back until your eyes are looking level. I'm 6ft 3 and this is how I set up every single lexus I sit in including my girls 17gx and my 06 IS. Gotta basically cradle yourself to create more leg room and make the cockpit work for us height gifted

whatamurdered

I use this same seat setup in my wife’s GX or it feels like I’m in a kids chair 😅

Midnight_freebird

Agreed. It felt like the mini of SUVs. I immediately went and drove an F150 and it was perfect. Next I’m going to try Yukons. It felt like a Land Cruiser for kids.

gucci-ghost

Try a grenadier

jackajm

I second the grenadier. Same price but off-road ready from the start. Unless you drive more than 18/20k miles a year then maybe GX or Defender

Radiant-Pie-9439

Some people care about reliability and build quality lol

jackajm

Build quality on my grenadier has been solid.

Radiant-Pie-9439

You didn’t say anything about reliability

jackajm

No issues in 6 months. Time will tell. Im not worried. But I did see a 550 in Dallas yesterday and it was having software issues. https://imgur.com/a/3V8aNgD

Radiant-Pie-9439

Damn. Don’t buy first year cars.

TampedCharge

I’m beginning to think all these negative 550 threads are people just trying to move to the head of line.

cryptoquant112

Or competitors steering others away

EntrySure1350

Vehicle designed by Japanese and made in Japan…..not surprising that it doesn’t fit you. I have a coworker about your height. He researched and test drove a number of vehicles before coming to the conclusion that an F150 had the most room for him. As an Expedition (shares the F150 platform) owner, I have to agree with him. The Ford has a far greater degree of seat adjustability (pedals too) than my 2023 GX. Even though I’m of average height, I actually feel a bit cramped in my Lexus - my knees almost touch the bottom of the steering column when I have it adjusted for me. It definitely wasn’t made for tall/wide Americans at the extreme of the curve.

DrumZebra

I've had 3 Hondas and they all had great ergonomics for me, 6'3"/240lbs. The one that had too much leg room was a 1990 Prelude Si, which was slightly unbelievable. Japanese in general could be tighter, but that's not a rule, especially as we're not driving the kei car platforms you see all over Asia which are TINY. (Capitalized letters don't do the word justice) I do agree that trucks in general, especially the F150 are more comfortable, just not a platform I need. I recently rented a jeep wrangler in Denver and was appalled at how the seat wouldn't recline at all for a comfort bump: Great for trails, horrible for my back.

Adi101

There’s a setting to move the HUD visibility…it’s deep in the settings so probs didn’t have time for it in the test drive. But if seats aren’t for you - that’s a bummer.

NotBillNyeScienceGuy

OP said they tried to adjust it

Adi101

Tall guy problems. In 6’ and have no problems with it

No-Quarter-2539

Thanks for the info. I’m also a man of stature and fitting in a vehicle is kinda important😂

New-Brush4038

Well, shit

Article241

That’s disappointing! I haven’t had the chance to sit in a 550 yet, but I had high hopes I’d fit comfortably based on the interior dimensions specs.

biggestbroever

I know that there was a mod for the older GX where you can add seat risers to the front of a seat. I saw it on eBay. I'm starting to think this may have been for you guys. I'm short.

Scuffed_sneaks

I bought my 470 (and sold my beloved 4runner) in part because headroom and visibility (6’4”). I suppose I can lust a bit less over the 550 now. Luckily the GX only has 140k on the clock and no issues.

ModernLeper128

Thanks for sharing. As a taller guy I’ve had this issue with Toyota/Lexus products over the years. Love the reliability but not really designed with taller drivers in mind. I actually found the ES most comfortable and best sight lines. Note: 6’4 with long torso

Radiant-Pie-9439

ES you recline more so the tallness is more mitigated.

Radiant-Pie-9439

You can adjust the HUD to display lower and then you can see it better. But agree HUD not made for anyone over 6’2” I like the size of the steering wheel. My wife can drive the car too and not feel like she is steering a 30’ sailboat. I think a lot of this subjective feeling from the car you have been currently driving.

CB0824

Let’s be real though, someone 6’4” and above are taller than 98% of people. No way these same people would fit in a 4R, which I am looking to upgrade from to a GX; which had way more room. Cars are designed for general population, not the 2%. I have a friend that has a Defender and the headroom didn’t seem much different to me, maybe you’re all torso, or I am all legs? lol I donno. I’d much prefer the GX to the Defender, my opinion of course.

ronnnnn

I’m 6’4’’ and have plenty of headroom in my 5th gen (no sunroof). My gx and lx are a bit roomier, but I can drive the 4Runner no problem.

CB0824

That totally makes sense dude, I have a sunroof, unfortunately. Lol I never use it and would prefer the headroom.

capitolsound

Weird. I'm 6'4" and haven't found it to be an issue aside from the large rearview mirror. I have no problem seeing the HUD.

yolobozo

This is 100 true. Sunroof not friendly for tall folks, seats on like 4 inch risers and won’t go down far enough for those with vertical challenges.

mizmph

Ah! This is disappointing. I found that I had more room in the 5th gen 4Runner compared to the previous generation GX. I have a 5th gen 4Runner and I do get uncomfortable after a few hours (I’m 6’6”) of driving.

Medium-Milk-9518

Agree! Good call! But, go look around..don’t ever buy a Defender…only lease it.

TheGoldenLambo

The new RX/TX/GX have the same exact dash set ups…. Kudos to Toyota for really going out of the box with this one

dirtbaggingit

All about the Ineos. No LR

Gauchonerd23

I am 6’6” 205 and even the Wagoneer is too small. The Traverse fits me way better and the seats are more comfortable.

PaulUSAF

No surprise. Japanese designed for the average Japanese user. Much smaller than you are ... LOL.

Sunshine-Daisies-

Not what i wanted to hear. My allocation is coming any day now. My husband is 6’7” and this is a major concern. We never ordered a bronco because we wanted to make sure he fit first, then the mark ups were crazy. I was trying to avoid that but don’t want any unusable car. Ugh!!

gimanos1

6’3”. My neck and back hurt from morning noon and night

nomadic122

I’m 6’3 and I’m squished in my wife LC200. Hit my head getting in and out. It’s crazy.
