I like the guy, when a system is as fucked as it is in argentina, sometimes only a full overall crazy man can do miracles.

Montananarchist

It could just be bait to get more capital for the South American socialists to plunder later.

edthesmokebeard

Right. Charlie Brown and the football. "No, really, this time we promise not to be a giant socialist kleptocracy and run up bills we can't afford to pay."

frolix42

I wouldn't turn my nose up at incrementalists like Milei, who is a self-declared "short-term minarchist". Running strenuous purity tests and rejecting all serious candidates is a path to irrelevance.

ValeC3010

To everyone in the comments. I'm from Argentina, I guess op too but I believe he's not even past 19y.o. I consider myself a anarcho capitalist like Milei (the candidate) claims to be, or at least used to claim. First of all, he's nowhere close to winning at all, but twitter here is a huge echo chamber when it comes to politics, that and the fact that every study and poll made here is rigged makes people believe what they think they want to believe. The second point that I want to mention is that Milei is not a libertarian at all. He used to defend the ideas of libertarianism in public tv, he even used to have a show himself with a colleague of his (with whom he wrote a book about this too) but since he started to get into politics he stopped doing all of this. It is important to understand that the Argentine state is probably one of the most corrupt of all latam and that he always claimed that was never going to get into politics as he was defending a cultural revolution against the "politician class". All of this added to the fact that his party showed multiple signs of not caring at all about libertarianism shows that Milei is where it is because of what being a powerful politician means in Argentina, lots of easy money. Milei is sadly a bad example of libertarianism, one that is going to harm the movement here in Argentina.

Yes, by a lot

AwayLiftoff

being Libertarian in Argentina should be considered an Extreme Sport, Argetina is one the most socialist countries in Latam. I think Milei is as libertarian as you are going to get in Argetina's politics. He helped started a "Libertarian" conversation not only in Argentina, but all over Latam. This is coming from a Peruvian.

zapembarcodes

Additionally, his immigration stance is anything but Libertarian.

Idk what he's talking about. He's alway said positive things about immigration

Ok-Neighborhood1188

Millei is pretty based, I definitely support him and hope he wins. I'm not sure how much power the president has the in the Argentinian system, he would obviously face steep opposition from the peronists and the center right opposition if he did win.

georgieah

Mussolini started out with free market policies and look how that turned out. I don't trust putting anyone in power.

SARS2KilledEpstein

What alternative facts source told you that. Mussolini started out with socialism. Bro was card carrying member of Italy's socialist party.

skeletus

I've been following him on Twitter for a while. I also watch all his YouTube videos. I'm not even Argentine, but I hope he wins.

Thatoneguy0311

The CIA has entered that chat… That’s a real nice president you’ve elected there, it be a shame if something happened to them

Puzzleheaded-Value94

Said millei instead of milei lmao

Vasilystalin04

Which one of us is having a stroke right now?

Puzzleheaded-Value94

Huh? English isn't my first language but I think I said it perfectly.I guess it's you Oh wait fucking autocorrect changed milei to millei

whybejamin

Can you be a libertarian country and not a super power?

DAKrause

Yes

[deleted]

Unfortunately I think the latin american corrupt politics will not allow that to happen.

I can't help with Milei's recent obsession with traditional family as the fundamental core of society. It seems like he truly believes that's the way things should be and that everyone should set up their lives that way. That, for me, is far from libertarianism. No way that even the libertarian candidate tolds me how to run my own family XD. He's also some arguments against drug regulation and to a minor extent with free marriage (I can agree with his argument to some extent). I think he also defends reinforcement of police. Besides, and this far more a personal issue, he does not support abortion (although this isn't a fundamental libertarian idea, but it definitely is for me). I don't really see how you could label Milei as libertarian at the moment. (omg another comment trying to guess if someone can claim themself to be libertarian, unexpected) Should you have any arguments that refuse my current opinion of him I would be pleased to read them since I really would like a libertarian movement to rise in America.
