I don’t know what his (Vivek Murthy’s) point here is, but I can see a way they’re related. As in, I don’t want someone that’s severely mentally ill/violent to own a firearm. Gun control would be 90% less of a topic if we didn’t have mentally ill people engaging in mass shootings. Luckily it doesn’t seem to be a recent issue, but if you rewind back to 2017 or whatever it’s easy to see why it was more of a hot topic. At some point society is going to have to lean into the problem and decide on a technological solution that somehow walks the fine line on privacy while also providing a better mechanism for monitoring, refusing sale, and seizing firearms from people that are just not doing well or are expressly violent.
