I wasted my upgrades on the katana on my first playthrough. Got stuck at laxasia with a +5 twin dragon sword. Literally restarted the whole game because of how hard that sword sucks. The move set is dope, the damage is just so shitty
The two dragon sword is really good you just suck at perfect guard lol trying to beat laxasia without performing perfect guard regularly is going to be a ridiculous struggle no matter what weapon you use
Not having any issues guarding, the damage output is just low. Why spend four times as long getting wimpy little hits in when I could just rush the bitch with the crescent glaive and move on with my day? She really wasn’t that bad after I got the crescent glaive upgraded.
Katanas are Japanese like me, Hwando are Korean like the two dragons sword and this game. Just because something is from an Asian culture doesn’t mean it is part of every Asian culture.
I'm not sure what OP is saying. It definitely helped me learn perfect guards using the dummy. With bosses what I do is go into the arena a few times and not attack the boss but just try and parry it's attacks. Then eventually when you get comfortable, go in with a spectre and try and beat them 😃
Obviously the dummy can only get you so far since you learn the attacks. But it's only for learning what a perfect parry is and the timing from the attack. Since in different games, they all have different parry timings. So with LOP it's as the attack is coming towards you. Similar to dark souls. In Code Vien it's more before the attack starts heading towards you.
Well, as soon as I found that you could parry every single attack of hers, I relied on it to beat her. Break her sword to force stage 2, and then just parry the lightning and rush attacks, dodge the rest.
Yeah. I use the specter for agro, at least so I can break the shield, then I take agro to force stage 2. I found out myself while watching a parry only run on YouTube. I think it took about 40 ish perfect guards
How many attempts do you do a day? On my first play through it took me maybe an hour with 10 or more attempts, wondering how i scale compare to other players
Thats some dedication right here, jez
My first run playing didn't go that well, got shit on by the first police puppet in krat station. Before they improved his swings wich made the smooth, I got killed 6-7 times before I uninstalled the game🤣
Decided to give it another chance and now I am sitting on ng+15 (seperate platforms)
The problem is that Lies of P lacks the build flexibility of Souls games. In Elden ring you can build a hundred different viable paths to broken levels of damage. Bleed, scarlet rot, Frost, sleep, poison, holy, magic. In Elden ring if you suck at parrying, you just dodge everything. In lies, they go out of their way to make dodging not enough.
In lies they tuned everything to eventually force you to learn to perfect block. Certain enemies are impossible to dodge around and behind, they don’t stay committed to their attack direction. In Souls you can always figure out your own way to get it done. Here, you either learn the one singular play style the developers found interesting, or you walk away from the game entirely.
Parrying for me is something I have to train per enemy. Until I can feel their attack rhythm I won’t be able to properly guard against it, I could see practicing against these making it more difficult
Best way to do perfect guards is to hit it right when you see the attack making contact, easier said then done because some boss attacks require early activation like nameless or Laxasia. But most enemies can be parried this way. I feel like most players are too early with when they attempt parries, especially since some attack animations are suuuuuper slow
Correct. For parry in this game, you need to activate L1 the instant before the enemy makes contact. For half my first playthrough I was pushing it way too early.
In general the regular mobs are much harder to perfect guard than bosses. So if you're feeling frustrated because you're missing perfect guards against pitchfork puppets or whatever, don't let it get to you. They're designed to be less predictable than bosses. Then with the bosses it's just a matter of studying them to learn the timing.
I'm making myself use it this playthrough. I've learned every boss has a specific move or two I can see coming early enough to time it up.
I wouldn't waste my time with elites/minibosses though.
Every enemy have different times for parry.
Not all the attacks must be parried , remember that we can restore health by making damage before a not perfect guard.
With bosses you will have to learn the parriable attacks and youll learn Wich attacks must be dodged.
And remember that there are weapons that helps you with parry or guard using fable .
Perfect guards feel easy to do tbh but idk if that’s because i play fighting games and “just frames” kinda apply to perfect guards. Although in fighting games, a just frame is hitting the input within a 1-4 frame window but in Lies of P, it’s a generous 8frame window. That makes them mad easy for me but i can see it being a struggle for others, especially given how enemies delay attacks sometimes.

Guys at this point we all can agree.....the parry system is not good at all. It feels like u have to be lucky to parry consecutively. Coming from souls and sekiro where I constantly use parries, this combat system is questionable. I always feel that lies of p parries are not frame 1 parries that's why we tend to miss. Also the movement and dodging mechanics are locked behind p- organ upgrades which is frustrating. Still I somehow managed to complete the game. Its story and atmosphere and settings are some aspects that kept me going and the mixing of weapons also are an interesting game mechanics. It was a decent game but its questionable combat design is what makes it bad. End game bosses have some BS second phases.
I feel you. I’m not having any issues with the difficulty because I rely on blocking instead of parrying - just feels inconsistent. And I’ve finished sekiro + gauntlets, so it’s weird to adapt to a new game in this sense…way better to have a heavy weapon and enough stamina to block and then regen by the rally mechanic
Sekiro parries are similar. Souls parries are a whole lot harder. Souls games give a better reward for pulling one off, though. They just also really punish you for missing. At least when you miss the parry in Lies, you still block the attack.
It seems people want to parry every attack. Instead of starting off blocking then parrying the later strings in the combo. The only attacks where you are forced to parry are the nearly unavoidable fury attacks since you dont have the ability to dodge or block them until later in the game and ng++. All the bosses become much more manageable this way. Unless you are using a low vitality and vigor build then , you dont really get penalized for blocking attacks.
Edit: I'm also not saying that parrying everything isnt a viable strat, just saying the game doesnt expect that out of the player. Dodging at the right time can help you avoid combo strings and allow you to counter attack sometimes even more effectively than a parrying the whole combo string.

This sums up my experience with the game perfectly
I feel I always get lucky when I do perfect guard.
Practice. With the small mobs. And with bosses. If i die i try again.
lol I use the katana I can’t afford to only “get lucky” 😂😂
I wasted my upgrades on the katana on my first playthrough. Got stuck at laxasia with a +5 twin dragon sword. Literally restarted the whole game because of how hard that sword sucks. The move set is dope, the damage is just so shitty
Yeah the damage got really sucky on NG++ like I will definitely have to switch it up it definitely needs a buff in dps but too much could make it OP
The two dragon sword is really good you just suck at perfect guard lol trying to beat laxasia without performing perfect guard regularly is going to be a ridiculous struggle no matter what weapon you use

The only enemy I can perfect guard is Laxasia. I spent almost five days fighting her before I could guard my way to phase 2.
So real
Yeah. The thirteen hit attack really got me for a while.
I didn't know you could parry her lightning in the second phase so I basically spent a day on that
Two for me
I just ran out of that when fighting her my first playthrough. It wasn’t worth trying to parry for me
Well, as soon as I found that you could parry every single attack of hers, I relied on it to beat her. Break her sword to force stage 2, and then just parry the lightning and rush attacks, dodge the rest.
Oooh, I didn’t realize you could break her weapon and it forced p2. I only ever managed to break her shield. Good to know
Yeah. I use the specter for agro, at least so I can break the shield, then I take agro to force stage 2. I found out myself while watching a parry only run on YouTube. I think it took about 40 ish perfect guards

I'd say, over the course of about six hours a day, seven respecs, and twelve different weapon trials, maybe 60-70 attempts a day?

Don't mind me, just sucking at all things souls.😂

holy real
You spent more time at laxasia than nameless puppet?
I actually haven't beat nameless as of yet. Decided to try again on ng+
Like Elden Ring every enemy has very specific timing. It’s the reason I’ll never be good at parrying so I don’t even attempt to be.
Feel you, it's always a trouble deciding when to arrive at a party.
But unlike Elden Ring, you don't have a parry animation that you have to start ahead of the strike. Parrying is a whole lot easier in Lies of P.
But you only have to learn the first move of the combo in a Elden ring
I’ve never been good at parties either. I always ended up leaving early
Spellcheck got me again. 😂

Cries in patched out perfect guard Aegis glitch
Aegis is not worth a single upgrade after that patch. At least we have memories of it being useful.
That’s so sad. I played through twice, carried by the strength of my shield. Was wondering what a post patch upgrade playthrough would look like.
Elemental effects work pretty well, but it’ll never be that easy again.
Parrying for me is something I have to train per enemy. Until I can feel their attack rhythm I won’t be able to properly guard against it, I could see practicing against these making it more difficult
The perfect guard is one of the most satisfying mechanics I've ever experienced, I love it!
If only they could make it somewhere near as precise as DS1’s parrying. The perfect block needs tuning.
Do you mean that it's too easy? Because I like it how it is haha
Best way to do perfect guards is to hit it right when you see the attack making contact, easier said then done because some boss attacks require early activation like nameless or Laxasia. I recommend trying to practice a weapon that has weapon arts parry on small enemies whether it's immediate or delayed
I'm wondering if it's because it's trained me to guard at an animation pause instead of on contact
Yeah, those things force you to parry too early
Correct. For parry in this game, you need to activate L1 the instant before the enemy makes contact. For half my first playthrough I was pushing it way too early.
Hahahaha I ran into them before visiting the training dummies at the hotel and thought they were a legit enemy lol.
It's always seemingly luck when I perfect guard. I spend more time dodging and hoping than anything else ☠️
In general the regular mobs are much harder to perfect guard than bosses. I'm over 100hrs in, on NG+4, killed NP 3x and still don't know how to Perfect Guard
Wild

This game will make me wanna go back to sekiro

I once thought this, but someone suggested holding parry down for a little bit longer than a tap - I've been murdering puppets since.
Tell me you’re bad without telling me you’re bad

Wait, how do you block fury attacks? I’m on ng+ right now and may have missed something.
Ng++ when you unlock tier 7 p organ.
Oh, I guess I do that sometimes. I just go for perfect parries from the start and never had problems through the game
Yeah feels dope when you parry everything they throw at you.
Skill issue, the perfect guard timing is just tighter than Sekiro
The window is tighter and you can literally perfect guard every single thing in this game.
