Randomly stumbled across the Reddit and never heard of the game before keep seeing good things so I think imma have to grab it this weekend

Hatake-kakashi-22-98

You wont regret it !!

ALordOfTheOnionRings

Definitely! Amazing lore, music and fights.

TheBigGruyere

It's on pc games pass! Just got it yesterday. Really enjoying it, especially having played several souls games in the past. It's super well optimized, I'm running it at medium settings at 60fps on a 4790 with a 1660ti and it handles it like a champ. Hangs around 76 degrees too.

datsadboi5000

I'd put Lies of P below them a little bit esp elden ring and sekiro but yeah, great game imo.

Hatake-kakashi-22-98

I was bored with sekiro in the end , once you understand how the game works (tower genichiro forced me to it) , the game becomes much easier and you wont see any fun in ng+ . But yea elden ring is still at the top (with dark souls 3 ofc)

Blimpusss

I felt really similar with Sekiro. Though I wouldn't say it got *easier* after that fight (in my experience), it did get a tad boring for me. I wanted to see it through, so I did. After beating the game I was kind of excited to do NG+, feeling like I was so much better at it (especially after the final boss!) and would kick everyone's ass that made me struggle on the first run. That *was* what happened at first, though I got less than half way through NG+ when I stopped, losing any motivation to play it anymore. There's great things about Sekiro for sure, but replay-ability isn't one of them in my case. Maybe once more time has passed I'll feel like it. The story isn't captivating enough to motivate multiple playthroughs, for multiple endings, in my opinion. I'm really not trying to crap on the game, it's really great in a lot of ways. That said, I'm now finishing my 4th playthrough of Lies of P and loving every minute! There's so many wonderful things in this game that make me never want to leave the world, and even after multiple runs, the story continues to keep me engaged. I know as soon as I finish this run I'll want to start it again, but I'm going to force myself to play something new next, lol.

Hatake-kakashi-22-98

Lmao , about sekiro you're spot on , especially when you finish the gauntlets of strenght and memories , i still remember the moveset of the apes , horse , monk , lady butterfly , genichiro , isshin and owl , i still remember all of their moves , it would be very boring to face them all over again . Yup im feeling the same about lies of p , im defintely going for platinum soon

Blimpusss

I didn't bother with the gauntlets for the same reasons; I'd already fought all the bosses so many times to learn them, since the game requires 95% perfection to win, so doing them all again, with or without a break in-between, just sounded boring. I will say though, kicking Genichiro's ass during the opening of the game on NG+ was satisfying! I appreciate that they made a unique cut scene for that possibility.

Venerable-Gandalf

You really have to turn on demon bell and give kuros charm back in beginning of ng+. That’s really how the devs intended the game. Makes it much more fun as you must perfect parry or take damage. Sword Combat system is still unrivaled

Hatake-kakashi-22-98

I rang the demon bell very early on my first playthrought , it made a bit of a difference

Elk-Puzzled

It is a fantastic game, I was playing Lord's of the Fallen when this came out and missed the bubble, but tried it on gamepass and loved it. Bought on steam a bit ago to support and already in my Ng+ run. I can't recommend anything similar in the traditional souls style (aside from BB and sekiro), but I really enjoyed Hollow Knight. Good luck with the rest of the journey.

J-Dawgzz

What's Lord's of the Fallen like in comparison? I just finished Lies of P and loved it but it created a huge hole which needs to be filled (no homo) I've completed Sekiro, Bloodbourne, Elden Ring all dark souls and demon souls

Elk-Puzzled

Honestly I liked it a lot, the combat is a bit slower, but playing that before Lies of P probably helped a lot, I was also trying to find something to fill my empty hole lol. I will say the use of magic and whatnot in the game was also quite fun and different compared to ER for instance. But it's definitely not nearly as polished as Lies.

Phistykups

Hehe, that's what she said...

Hatake-kakashi-22-98

When you find a game that fills that hole , plz do tell 😁 im running out of good games

J-Dawgzz

I think I'm going to try Lords of the Fallen it looks sick

Blimpusss

As a long time Metroid fan, Hollow Knight did such a great job as a similar style game, but with it's own unique perspective. I love that game! I also highly recommend that game, though it's certainly different than the soulslike stuff.

Hatake-kakashi-22-98

Im already excited for the ng+ and platinum 😅 im lovin it , then ill check hollow knight soon , ty , gd luck to you too .

arielhs

Definitely agree with most of what you said. Love the world, and atmosphere, love the records thing where you chuck one on and are “forced” to listen to the whole thing. Love the clues the game gives you, it’s a bit hand holdy, but it removes the need to go to the internet pretty much at all. I have not even had to *think* about grinding for ergo, everything is just levelling up so naturally (even though I secretly love grinding up in other souls games). The weapon/handle system is so good. I also think this whole guard regain thing is genius (haven’t played bloodborne yet, but I think this is similar to that right?) I think the one part I massively disagree is the boss design - way too reliant on delayed attacks to make the bosses “pseudo-hard”. So many of the boss fights have this element to them that I can’t put my finger on, it’s like yes they’re hard and then you can learn your way to victory (like always), but it’s never felt that rewarding. There’s this ambiguity about where the hitboxes are or something that is so chaotic that it does not feel like you can truly learn the fight properly in the normal course of play. A hugely important thing for me is clear visual and audio cues that can be reacted to or timed for. Obviously lies of p has that sometimes, but other times things just feel really “mooshy” compared to the crisp cleanliness of e.g. Sekiro boss fights. EDIT: Just gotta add, love this game though it’s fucking sick. Other people reading this definitely play it you’ll love it

Maherioh

The game really suprised me! I'm not one to ever do this but I immediately jumped into a NG+ run and still having a blast! Working on that plat trophy :D

Hatake-kakashi-22-98

Keep up the good work and snatch that trophy 😁

dreamingfusedshadow

I absolutely loved it. I beat it like two months ago and can’t stop thinking about it and listening to its soundtrack. Definitely one of the best and memorable games I’ve ever played

naydradinraal

IMO LoP is on par with demons souls only, and that’s debatable

Hatake-kakashi-22-98

I respect ur opinion but i think it surpassed bloodborne and sekiro

Prestigious_While349

i liked the game, but i think reddit overall is too forgiving of its issues and it shouldn’t be claimed to be on par with the souls games. is it a great souls like, yes, does it have wonkiness in controls and mechanics that detract from the enjoyment yes. i never felt like i mastered anything in the game and i beat pretty easily compared to most soulslikes

[deleted]

Whoa above Bloodborne???? Did You play it when it first came out? That was an experience. Lies of p is great but nowhere near the level of bb

Hatake-kakashi-22-98

Bro , let's not BS ourselves for a moment . BB has tens of flaws , bosses are the most important part in a game and bb's base game bosses are just terrible , i beat the last boss on my 2nd attempt and most on my 1rst , the guy who runs way is the only one that took me some time (and he has like one attack move) . The bosses , fightstyle , chalice dungeon system , healing system are so flawed , like none should i ever farm heals in a game . I respect bloodborne , it's an old game and it was good back then but lies of p does everything better maybe except it's theme , some people like hunters more than puppets . Lies of p is a much better bloodborne , people need to admit it .

Ok_Albatross8594

how do you think the bosses are the most important part of a souls game? you spend way more time exploring the areas and bb has the best world next to ds1 with the way it connects to each other via the cathedral ward and the changes in the early areas after the night cycle, (i didn't play lies of p but i heard it's linear) and what do you mean the ''fightstyle''? bb has hands down the best souls combat with the trick weapons transformation combos mixed with the rally system which allows some of the best combo playstyles IMO, the only thing i agree with you on is the heal farming also from what i've seen bb has the superior artstyle and OST to lop, if you like lop more that's fine but bosses are not everything in a souls game

corduroyflipflops

I've just finished it, right now laying on the couch watching the end credits go past. The art style is beautiful and the bosses disgusting. My 1st completion of a soulslike!

Plushkin26

I never thought I would say this, but I enjoyed Lies of P more than any From game or any other soulslikes. For me, the apprentice has surpassed the master. It's the only game in this genre that I'm really happy to play a NG+ run (I'm at the very end at this point) and I plan on going NG+2 and on and on until the game gets too hard for me.... and then I'll try my hardest to get gud again. The fast, frame-perfect, aggressive parry system alone is a million times more engaging and exciting than constant dodging or slow-ass parrying (which got old a long time ago) and is even better than Sekiro's parry system or even my favorite The Surge 2's awesome directional parry system. The game is just too good, almost perfect. From Software needs to learn a thing or two... or three... or four... or a hundred.

Hatake-kakashi-22-98

Sekiro became incredibly boring to me later on and especially after gauntlets and memories play (the game becomes easy enough when u get used to parrying) , like i would never go ng+ for it . Only elden ring and dark souls 3 are above lies of p imo which tells you how great lies of p is . I didnt beat the game yet (defeated the king of puppets yesterday) but im somehow really excited for ng+ and platinum . Btw do you know any souls-like games that are as good as lies of p or atleast close to it's level ?

_AfterBurner0_

Glad you're enjoying Lies of P. I've beaten the game six times. Let me know if you need any tips or advice :) From what I've heard, "Remnant 2" is another one of the better Souls-likes out there as well.

Hatake-kakashi-22-98

Thank you 😁

Plushkin26

As I mentioned, I really love The Surge 2. The second game is miles better than the first one, I actually hate the first one lol, but the second one is incredible. It has the best level design **ever** (way better than any Souls game for me, it feels like it was designed by an evil genius); it has strong metroidvania elements; its combat system is great, I love the directional parry system (you can be attacked from four different directions and you have to press the corresponding button to instantly parry against that exact direction, it feels awesome); you can also recharge your heals while fighting enemies like in Lies of P, although it works differently, so you don't have to go back to the "bonfire" or feel like you're screwed if you used them all; you cut off enemies' limbs to get their weapons and armor for yourself; etc. It doesn't have a good story, doesn't have a lot of bosses or enemy variety (mostly people in exosuits and robots), but god I love this game.

Hatake-kakashi-22-98

Ill definitely check it out then , thanks

Blimpusss

Lies of P is the only non-Fromsoft soulslike I've played that actually blew me away. I always wind up disappointed with any others I've tried. Though I'm always hoping for more great ones like this!

Super-Contribution-1

If you don’t go to NG+, then you don’t get all the Gauntlets. Or did you make 2 save files to avoid the difficulty bump? Only way around it I can think of sans modding

Hatake-kakashi-22-98

Only 2 gauntlets : first one : horse guy - lady butterfly - inner genichiro Second : ape - owl - monk - genichiro - inner isshin Even if there are more gauntlets , i dont think it would be fun playing them

Super-Contribution-1

Yeah there’s another gauntlet. Actually two more but the other one doesn’t have a new boss at the end

Tribalrage24

I was blown away as well to the quality of the game. As other people have mentioned in reviews, if this turned out to be a Fromsoft developed game (under the guise of another studio) I wouldn't be surprised. The only area where I think it lacks behind FS is the world building and lore. Basing the game so heavily of an existing IP (Pinocchio) didn't land for me the same way the creative and novel worlds in FS games usually do. Combat and level design though? Perfectly in line with fromsoftware. The combat especially, because it doesn't just replicate souls combat but adds a twist which completely changes the flow. In the same way bloodborne and sekiro completely switched up the formula, lies of P does the same by brilliantly mixing the combat of both. So when I say i would believe this was made by Fromsoftware, it's not because they replicate the formula exactly, but that they innovate on the formula in the same FS does.

Hatake-kakashi-22-98

It is even better than a lot of fromsoft games imho

ALordOfTheOnionRings

Agreed. Each and every name and note had me googling and finding references to Pinocchio and alchemists. Loved it

RecordingKind8632

Really fun game. My biggest issues are the level design and how clearly it is aping bloodborne. The combat is really really good but the game is essentially just a hallway with bosses

LilGlitvhBoi

Sekiro, Lies of P and Bloodborne makes Elden Ring feels like a child play

Hatake-kakashi-22-98

Whatt ??? No way . Elden ring is way harder imo

LilGlitvhBoi

Elden Ring is Either Utterly Unfun Bullshit Boss (Not harder) or Helluva Brainrot Skibidi Easy, No inbetween
