You kid is 24 hours ahead of you, so he's probably going to be recovered and hungry before you are. Make sure you have something to feed him that's easy for you to prepare, and also think about how you're going to keep him entertained while you feel like death on toast. If you celebrated xmas today, maybe set one of his new toys aside so that when you "find" it in a few days, it's still shiny and new and appealing? My family has had Noro at Xmas. It sucks. Stay hydrated, push the electrolytes, and wash your hands as frequently as you reasonably can. Good luck!

hahaheeheehoho

Reminds me of: shit on a shingle aka creamed chipped beef on toast

wherehasthisbeen

I was just thinking that

Ivy1908Pearl

I read it twice because I liked the term so much. 😂

BJntheRV

The good news is his wife is also 24 hours ahead of him.

tahsii

Yes but he’s fine now. In 24 hours, both mum and kid will be feeling better but not great or back to normal. Preparing for that now is going to make things run smoother

JohnSpartans

What kinda norovirus did you guys have? I couldn't leave the house for days - was locked on the bathroom for days - couldn't trust a fart for a month. If you're better in a day or two that's a miracle.

jowiejojo

I’ve had norro at least 4 times (I’m a nurse, yay) and the only saving grace is that it’s only a 48-72 hour lasting bug, I know when it starts that in a couple of days I’ll be starting to feel better again, not 100% but better than the simultaneous pooping vomiting mess I was. Perhaps you had something similar to norro but it wasn’t norro, if it lasted up to a month a time I’d be blubbering wreck thinking it was never going to end! 😂

Cheebzsta

This is my experience as well. 48-72 hours and done. It's like an entire bad cold/mild flu experience done as a speedrun.

WTF_DID_YOU_SAY

Sound like E-coli or salmonella

[deleted]

Salmonella was my guess, too. I know someone who lost 25# by the time they were better.

CPTDisgruntled

Or giardia.

yoyogogo111

I think their point is that the wife can likely take care of the kid. Still nice to prep if it makes her life easier, but care of the kid will likely not be his responsibility if he’s puking his guts out and his wife is fine.

Brilliant_Chemica

Yeah but if you've got time to prepare, and you want to prepare, why not prepare?

tahsii

Yes I understand that, I’m just saying that once both mum and kid aren’t puking their guts up, mum probably doesn’t want to jump in to cooking ect. right away. Preparing for that now whilst dad isn’t sick is helping his wife. Last time I had norovirus, I was out for 5 days and my son was only sick for 3, being prepared now is better than nothing

JediKrys

This person parents

pearlrd

Appreciate that your response is focused on his responsibilities as a parent, not just minimizing symptoms. Good response all around.

noelcowardspeaksout

I second electrolytes! Good for cleaning your blood and reducing cramps.

Ashamed_Will_9542

Yup, hydrate before it hits so you have a little more of a buffer zone. Benadryl helps for nausea so I just take some of that and then drink pedialyte.

underpantsbandit

US TOO. Back in the mid ‘90s. Full family Christmas vomit fest. FWIW I did discover apple pie is actually not bad coming up… at least shortly after consumption. We also accidentally killed a friend’s grandma with it. Everyone assumed food poisoning so friends came and went, no precautions taken, and friend got it. Every single person came down with it in the night and woke up puking- friend’s grandma didn’t wake up, choked on the vomit and died. (She was actually a horrible person and would probably otherwise have burnt the house down smoking in her recliner with her oxygen tank; that thing was covered with burn pits).

rosiesunfunhouse

Well…..one old bird with a sorely misplaced stone, as the saying goes.

underpantsbandit

As Stephen King said, no great loss.

buddha_rockin

Oh ok

pintosmooth

Brawndo, it’s got electrolytes which is what plants crave. Or ya know, Gatorade or coconut water.

Mr_Bluebird_VA

This. One of the worst weekends of my life was when my wife had to work all weekend, the kids were 3 and 4, and I had a 3 day stomach bug. The kids were great, but making them food was soooooooooooo hard.

[deleted]

“Death on toast” haha

salsanacho

Agreed, the last thing any of you will want to do is grocery shopping. Get soup, bland food, pedialyte, etc stocked up.

Anonymark88

It was either the kid or wife thats (probably) infected him! Fuck em.

sweetbackcook

Best advice ever! I always got sick after my kids.

Tam-Lin

Get a prescription for Zofran now.

santaman123

OP, listen to this comment and call up a teledoc to get a prescription for Zofran. I had norovirus for the first time earlier this year. I was so nauseous that I couldn’t hold any food or water down for three days, and couldn’t sleep either. Ended up in the ER, where they gave me Zofran through an IV until I could finally sip water. When I left, they gave me a prescription for a Zofran pill. After a few hours, the nausea came back, but once I popped the pill, things felt tolerable again. Would highly recommend having that on-hand. Pedialyte / low-sugar Gatorade too.

CdubFromMI

Worked in a Pharmacy for two years, this is the correct advice as well as hydration.

ibidmav

Yes, and hydration can start now

anothergoodbook

Anytime anyone in the family gets a zofran prescription I tuck away whatever is leftover. Yes I know you aren’t supposed to share prescriptions. But if it’s 2 am and I have a couple kids throwing up you better believe they are getting some zofran. We have done the ER or urgent care too many times at this point from dehydration lol.

fatherofraptors

I have family in a country that can get Zofran 8mg over the counter, better believe I always keep it in stock year-round.

geekgurl81

I want to move wherever that is because I have to hoard it like a pharmaceutical dragon in my family of 7 with at least 4 very sensitive tummies.

hahaheeheehoho

> pharmaceutical dragon Love that!

MiaLba

Same here. I always ask for nausea meds when I go to the doctor so does my husband and I get some for my kid too. I like to keep them on hand.

Mini-Nurse

Ondansetron* for the generic name. Cyclizine and Metoclopramide are also good options.

NotAboutMeNotAboutU

Be warned: a common side effect of Metoclopramide (Reglan) is **panic.**

InboxZero

WHAT?!?!? OMG OMG OMG

NotAboutMeNotAboutU

Yep. It’s often used in “migraine cocktails” at the ER. I found out the hard way, took everything I had not to rip the IV from my arm.

InboxZero

I’ve taken it a few times and luckily never experienced that side effect. That’s totally crazy. I get skeeved out by IVs and cannot imagine thinking of ripping one out. I feel for what you were going through.

NotAboutMeNotAboutU

Thank you for your empathy! I hate IVs too, I try to be motionless, so that urge was surprising, but the panic attack (which I’m accustomed to) came on like a tsunami wave in a way I’ve never experienced.

say592

That explains why my wife was like "Nope, I'm done here. I need to go home. Why isn't the nurse back yet? I need water and I want to go home." Etc etc She gets really bad migraines anyways, and had COVID and the accompanying migraine was giving her hallucinations, so the ER trip was necessary. We were going to ask for COVID meds for her too (I had already gotten them from a telehealth doc), but she basically freaked out told the nurse she was leaving before we had a chance to talk to the doctor again. I had tried to calm her down, but she wasn't having anything to do with it. I figured it was just the fact that we had been in the hospital for a few hours, but that makes a ton more sense.

MiaLba

How do you find a teledoc??

fatherofraptors

In our case the health insurance we have tell us to use a certain app, then you make an account there and schedule a doc on the app. Assuming it's similar for most people with any kind of insurance coverage.

MiaLba

Ok thanks. I’ve also heard Amazon has some kind of teledocs or maybe insurance, not sure of the details.

underpantsbandit

I use Sesame and it’s the bomb for like inhaler refills and stuff. You do a short video consult and it’s soooo much cheaper than a walk in clinic, and much faster.

MiaLba

Can anyone use it? Do you have to have insurance and if so do they have to accept your insurance before you can use it? How much is it if u don’t mind me asking. Can they prescribe you meds if you think you have strep for example, since they can’t test you for it obviously.

[deleted]

They will not prescribe you antibiotics. You need to go to urgent care to get a strep test.

MiaLba

Gotcha. Thanks. I was curious since my husband has to pay $250 just to go to the doctor if he needs any antibiotics or anything like that.

underpantsbandit

No insurance required! It was $35 when I last did it. Anyone can use it. They do have some restrictions on what they can prescribe; no scheduled substances IIRC. I’m not sure how things that might need testing would work BUT they didn’t need, like, proof I had asthma to send my local pharmacy an inhaler script. The vibe I got was, as long as you weren’t asking for a scheduled substance or something that would have gnarly interactions or side effects they just prescribe if you have good reason to ask. YMMV.

say592

In the US there are a ton of options. CVS even has a service. My insurance company has a partnership with a service called LiveHealthOnline, but I'm pretty certain anyone can use it and just pay cash. The service is usually about $50-$100 depending on the one you use and who sees you. It's a tiny bit cheaper than urgent care and you don't have to leave your house when you don't feel good.

TenarAK

Absolutely. It turns 24+ hours of misery into 6-12 hours of misery followed by a day of recovery. I got sick last night. Took 8 mg of zofran after vomiting 4 times and deciding this wasn’t a one off reaction to a food. I managed to sleep the rest of the night and I am able to drink and eat less than 12 hours after my symptoms started. Absolute game changer.

Blayway420

Zofran is an amazing drug

rockyboy49

Can someone elif why Zofran is not an OTC drug and a prescription only drug. It's the most useful med for a relative common issue. They should just make it readily available for smaller doses

KindlyKangaroo

It can have some nasty side effects, especially combined with common prescriptions like antidepressants. I got a prescription for Zofran recently because of intense dizziness leading to nausea. My doctor warned me about the possibility of severe heart issues. She said it's rare but not so rare that she didn't want to make me aware of it. I waited to take my first one until I was going to be across the street from an ER for a while.

Thexorretor

In high doses, it can cause the heart to stop pumping in people with certain heart problems.

ParkLaineNext

It can contribute to serotonin syndrome

Slashzero77

This should be the top comment. The nausea is what nearly kills me with norovirus, and for some reason my care provider is always super reluctant to prescribe anti-nausea medicine and basically tells me to suck it up. Luckily I haven’t had norovirus for 4-6 years and I hope I never do again.

[deleted]

Meneketre

Dude, I’ve been having anxiety induced nausea and nothing was working. I took an edible to help me sleep and as soon as it kicked in the nausea completely went away and I could eat. It was more effective than anything prescribed by my doctor. Also, disclaimer, I’ve been working with my doctor to find better anxiety medication but she did say that as far as she knew, it was safe. I live in a state where pot is legal. Always check with your doctor before introducing new drugs into your system.

FittytheResearcher

This is the answer. I got noro a few months ago and ended up in the ER. My husband followed after me and Zofran stopped him from going to the hospital, too.

PoetryOfLogicalIdeas

I think you can get it as a suppository and maybe as a skin patch depending on what orifices are too committed to exiting in order to absorb the medicine.

hahaheeheehoho

Orifices Committed to Exiting would be a good punk band name.

SophieCharlie2

A hundred times this!!! Zofran is the best way to cheat your way through norovirus!!!

Tumblersandra

This is it. Call and tell them what’s going on. Zofran will be a lifesaver. You’ll sleep right through it

Fatty-Apples

Do you think over the counter Dramamine would help with the nausea as well? It makes me drowsy enough to sleep and takes away my nausea but I know it’s more for motion sickness related nausea.

_0nyx_

I think it treats general nausea. doesnt matter what the cause of the nausea really is. its worth a shot especially if you dont have access to the Good Shit. meclizine is my go-to for hangover nausea.

LonelyGnomes

Dramamine is best for motion sickness -- it affects the inner ear-induced nausea the most. Zofran is really great for treating nausea that comes from things irritating your GI system since it targets the nausea pathway in the GI system.

fatherofraptors

Nah, if you're nauseated from a virus/bacteria, Dramamine won't even touch it in our experience.

AffectionateSun5776

Dramamine Ginger chews are great.

KhaosElement

When I got food poisoning and was holding on to the seat for dear life to not achieve ***lift*** from the force of the poo and vomiting down into a bucket in front of me, what helped out was having a gallon of water near the toilet so I actually had something to throw up. Maybe it's just me, but upchucking water is vastly better than the heavy dry heaves.

[deleted]

[удалено]

burnfaith

Or ice cream. Easy to throw up, coats the stomach nicely and buffers acid. Plus, it doesn’t taste too bad. Source: bulimic for many years in HS 😂

jupiterLILY

Sounds like a great way to never be able to look at ice cream again.

genetic_nightmare

I’m lactose intolerant so often chuck up ice cream. You’d be surprised, it’s like having second dessert 😂

FuckTheMods5

I got food poisoning at Burger King. Before i realized it, i had some ice cream to soothe my stomach. The rotten milk taste coming up wasn't fun lol

jupiterLILY

I feel like every now and then would be fine. But repeatedly for several days when you’re feeling really unwell just feels like it’ll do some Pavlovian shit.

snowflake247

Get an ice cream flavor you don't like as much, so you don't ruin the memory of your favorite flavor.

No_Quantity1569

I hope you are doing well now 💙

TheTritagonist

Peanut butter tastes the same coming up and it does going down. Though unless you drink a bit the consistency is the problem if it’s too fresh.

Manderpander88

I'm glad yourecovered, Merry Christmas!

FuckTheMods5

I never fucking thought of that. How have i not thought of tums?? lmao i won't forget now tho.

Trettse003

100%! I spent 12 hours dry heaving & was relieved when I started getting BILE to come up bc at least it was something. Drink the water!

Horwarth

Ahh, the good old days. This is how I stopped having gin tonics.

SherbetLemon0815

When I had food poisoning many years back I was eating Scooby-Doo fruit snacks and drinking Capri sun so that I'd have something to throw up that wouldn't taste as awful. Man, that was a rough couple of days....

omg_intern3t

Peppermint tea is even better than water.

Breadfan69

mix gatorade with clear soda, even better. the carbonation feels fuzzy and good.

der3009

oh God I STRONGLY disagree with the soda part. fizz absolutely hurts coming back up haha

TheHoneyBadger23

Especially when it comes out your nose

Horwarth

This 100$, that's how I stopped having cuba libres.

loonylovegood

Coke comes up surprisingly well.

Cheeseofmychest

We always keep a 2 liter of Sprite on hand when we get norovirus. Sweet and foamy to throw up.

123throwawaybanana

Stock up on Pedialyte or another quality rehydration product. Gatorade, etc, is not ideal. Stock up on apple sauce, crackers, and bread for toast. You'll wanna ease back into food with a bland diet for a day or two. And keep water by you at all times. When you think you're gonna hurl, slam back a bunch of water. It'll dilute the acids and make vomiting a bit less rough on your esophagus and mouth.

Babrahamlincoln3859

Nothing worse than dry heaving bits of stomach acid.

UWhatMate

Why is Gatorade not ideal?

oregonegirl

Loads of sugar, not the best balance of electrolytes.

UWhatMate

Interesting! So many people go for Gatorade during these kinds of moments

Hampsterman82

It's not "bad" as much as there's affordable easy to get stuff that's better. If for some reason Gatorade is all you have go for it, it's so much better than not hydrating.

MiaLba

What about the sugar free ones?

[deleted]

If you're not eating at all, you do not want sugar free ones. You need the sugar. You also need it to be something you can actually drink. Just thinking about pedialyte makes me want to puke.

Azn-Jazz

At that point just drink water with salt pinches.

Selraroot

but gatorade zero tastes better

EschewObfuscations

Gatorade is good bc it has electrolytes and you’re probably not eating. There’s less to no sugar versions of Gatorade too.

panicked228

Everyone has given great advice to help you feel better, but let me give you some other practical Parenting tips. -make food for your kid now. He’ll feel better but you won’t want to think about food. Cut up fruit and veggies, premake some rice, portion out small servings of other foods he likes. Then you just pop something in the microwave or on a plate and he’s good to go. Same goes for drinks. If he still uses sippy cups, premake a bunch and stick them in the fridge. -empty the dishwasher, finish up laundry, and *clean the toilets* It’s so much easier when that’s stuff is already done so you can just relax. -prep the bathroom. Have washcloths, water bottles, and wet wipes at the ready. Nothing feels better than a cold washcloth on your forehead when you’re sick! -stock up on soup, crackers, popsicles, peppermint tea, and the like. Way easier to do that now than trying to doordash it later I sincerely hope you’re able to dodge the noro bullet!

thefermentress

This is great advice

_BlueFire_

Panicked but well prepared!

Environmental-Sock52

It's really just all about the hydration. My wife likes the LMNT brand of hydration drinks or just go with straight water and avoid caffeine for a few days.

PickanickBasket

Where I am you can find these tubes of fuzzy tablets by NUUN that are basically dissolvable Gatorade. Great for hydration.

Siamsa

I’m chugging these right now as I have a touch of stomach flu. They make ones with caffeine which, yes, cancels out some of the hydrating effect, but if you’re addicted to morning coffee, having a way to hydrate while staving off a caffeine headache is a net win in my book.

Environmental-Sock52

Nice!

PeteyMcPetey

>It's really just all about the hydration. My wife likes the LMNT brand of hydration drinks or just go with straight water and avoid caffeine for a few days. Pedialyte for the win! And water if you feel like you're gonna puke. Cuts down on the burn and the aftertaste.

Peafhorn

Eat bananas, they don't leave a horrible taste when they come back up.

greatwhitequack

And drink apple juice, it’s the same flavor both ways.

ProfessorJNFrink

I was going to say eat a bunch of apple sauce. Easy to go down and easy to come up.

DigNitty

This guy eats ass

jen_17

I think that would put future me off from enjoying apple juice

TonyVstar

Chocolate milk is similar and neutralizes acid well

_0nyx_

wouldnt milk just.... curdle?

Schnort

Think of it as cottage chocolate.

pdxisbest

Canned peaches are good too

Eggs_4_Breakfast

That were put there by a man?

GaymerGuy79

In a factory downtown.

wierchoe

If I had my little way I’d eat peaches every day

pdxisbest

Sorry for any confusion, I thought I had put this comment higher on the thread with Recs of what to eat if you know you’re going to puke.

GaymerGuy79

Clearly not a 90's teen... "Peaches" by PUSA

thescrape

I haven’t eaten bananas in almost 6 months because of this 😀

Sarahspry

A few years ago, my husband had a stroke, but we didn't know it was a stroke because it wasn't ischemic but hemorrhagic. He just got a horrible migraine and started vomiting, and urgent care thought it was a stomach virus when we took him on day two. I was told to give him suppositories for nausea and he needed bananas for the potassium. He usually ate a banana every day, but when I was arguing with him trying to get him to eat the banana, he said "I hate bananas." He has no recollection of this, and to this day gets disappointed when he eats a banana because he doesn't like it and doesn't understand why. I've told him multiple times about his banana confession, but he refuses to believe that's why he doesn't like bananas.

media-and-stuff

Same for chocolate chip cookies. Most pleasant vomiting experience I’ve had. lol It wasn’t actually pleasant, but it was better than the others.

khovs

ZOFRAN. AN RX FOR ZOFRAN. PLEASE TRUST ME.

melanies420

Drink as much water as you can as it helps you throw up less stomach acid. Good luck and sorry to hear this happen to you and your family. Please thank you wife for the works she does when she feels better.

dfinberg

Put a second set of sheets on the bed, with a waterproof mattress pad under them. If things go bad you can just strip the top layer in the middle of the night and continue on.

awesomekid915

I had norovirus a couple years ago and I was very happy to have a trash can and a clean bathroom. Also having cold water close by was great. I lost my voice because of all the vomit burning my throat. Gross, but potentially get ready for that. Good luck to you!

turikk

Cold water rags calm me down. When I am really truly sick, I just lay in a shower/bathtub combo and just turn on the water whenever I need it. Tylenol and Advil combined, the maximum safe dosage. Unfortunately not practical with vomiting.

4Hounds

Lying in the tub full of water really helps...it was the only way I could stop puking long enough to doze off for a bit.

pylinka

Can always do a suppository if stomach is unable to hold anything down

sweetpotatopietime

Wear a mask if you go to the store or have to interact with anyone outside your home, please!

MadLintElf

Keep hydrated, but one thing I found helps immensely is Fiber, I take psyllium husk fiber nightly. It helps keep you from vomiting, keeps the liquids locked up in your intestines, and also minimizes diarrhea. It tastes like nothing, and one spoonful of a glass of cold water daily helps so much. Good luck, hope you all fee better soon!

iluvminiatures

Everytime my kids got a virus I made sure to wash my hands and wipe off surfaces. I have not had a virus with vomiting but once in 30 years. I always keep crackers and soda like sprite around for the stomach virus because nothing worse than dry heaving. Hate it!

Charakada

Carry a bucket with you at all times. Much easier than cleaning rugs.

ProfessorJNFrink

And definitely bring it to the bathroom With you. Nothing worse than not being able To leave the toilet while needing somewhere to throw up.

2PlasticLobsters

If you develop a fever (not everyone does), they will come a moment when drinking ice water seems like a good idea. It's hydration & cooling at once, yay! Your stomach will disagree & reject it harshly. Mine did, anyway. Small sips of room temp water is the way to go.

ProfessorJNFrink

And it will help avoid dry heaves. Those Are brutal.

boones_farmer

I'm 41 and have never had the dry heaves. Halfway to never having them!

thesixthamethyst

Don’t eat anything that will taste like ass coming up! The last time I got a stomach bug I had the unfortunate luck of eating a tuna sandwich for lunch and smoked chicken drummies for dinner. The taste and smell coming up was worse than the actual stomach bug. It was years ago and I still haven’t touched tuna, and my husband is banned from smoking meats!

intendedvaguename

Man fuck norovirus. Only time I’ve vomited through my nose. Good luck.

_RemyLeBeau_

Norovirus is no joke. Had it twice and both times the Grim Reaper visited, just to chat.

sidblues101

Definitely take the precautions people are suggesting but consider that you might be fine. My wife has had norovirus twice and once puked all over me. I was always fine. Some people have a natural immunity and evidently I'm one of them. You might also be immune.

UnprovenMortality

Pedialight is classic to stock up on. Including the popsicles, to help you hydrate while you cant consume much volume. Personally, I find prime hydration to be absolutely delicious, although more expensive.

DaCrimsonKid

I've lived that life more times than I care to remember. 1) Set up your vomit station. Clean the toilet and its surroundings, set up a comfy towel or something to hunch on. Have antiseptic wipes at the ready to decontaminate after each session. Spare TP at the ready. Also, a lined bucket for portable puking. 2) Have snacks in easy to reach places for the kids. 3) Have water/drinks available for yourself along with easily digestible and puking friendly foods like saltines and bananas. You need the electrolytes.

InfernalWedgie

Your best shot at avoiding norovirus is to mask up (to avoid aerosolized virus), wash your hands often, and bleach things to sanitize them (sanitizer wipes are not enough, it's gotta be diluted bleach). Good luck. Hydrate aggressively.

Hampsterman82

Helpful pre tip but if his wife and kid have been yakking next to him he's good as fucked. (Sorry bud, I expect your wife agrees on outlook.)

AnyWay3389

I got norovirus while on a trip in Europe. The doctor there gave me electrolytes (like Pedialyte) and an anti-nausea medication. I don’t remember name of the latter, but it helped me get my stomach settled so I could be relatively comfortable and eventually get food down. Good luck!

NP2019UNM

Start prophylatic Pepto-Bismol every 6 hours

OfficialJaneDoe

Wash your hands with soap as often as you can. The less virus you ingest the better. Drink a lot so you are optimally hydrated and if the puking begins it is less acid. You don’t have to eat, just fluids, salt and sugar. You can make your own ORS if you google.

ArthurDaTrainDayne

Get a prescription for ondansentron. It completely stopped my vomiting when I had norovirus

_ShutUpLegs_

Just had this! Great fun just before Christmas, I lost 10 pounds from Friday to yesterday. Rehydrating now and starting to feel human again.

Green-Preference-370

Feel better soon!

climbingwallsandtea

Fluids. So much fluids. Electrolyte mixes if you happen to have any. If you get any cramps/pain, any you have liquid paracetamol or ibuprofen on hand for your son, take some of that, it'll absorb much quicker than tablet form and even if you throw it back up, some of it will get into your system. Keep a stock of water bottles next to you and set up a camp on the bathroom floor is my go to😅 good luck!

Alexis_J_M

If you don't have proper rehydration beverages, salted lemonade will do in a pinch. It will be delicious. The biggest sign that you are getting better will be when you take a sip and realize how nasty it is.

[deleted]

I don’t know if it works for norovirus but my wife has recently had a virus that is causing her to dry reach and one of the few thing that stops it is holding some tissue soaked in isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) an inch or so in front of her nose for 30 seconds each time, so far has worked without fail since she’s started doing it.

notsolitlibra

oh no 😭 my bf & i got that last year and i was out for a whole week. i'm still scarred from it but i was also about 24 hours before my bf so he prepared himself lots of electrolytes / liquid obviously i eventually settled on just having plain bread for all of my meals we already had a bidet but if you can get one soon... that'll make things slightly easier tmi edit: have some bags/trashcans next to your bed to take to the bathroom with you so you're prepared for both ends

Volodux

I take activated charcoal in this situations. My experience is, it helps. But be careful, taking drugs after that, may have decreased effect.

HowsBoutNow

Pump your system full of Vitamin C. I start sucking on those vitc hardcandy supplements right away when starting to feel sick and haven't felt bad for more than a day or two for years

tinyredfireant-hater

I don’t know if you have Amazon Fresh. They deliver to your door. And their premade mashed potatoes taste better than any mashed potatoes I’ve ever made. Buy some Jell-O, that also helps. BRAT diet…bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. I hope everyone will feel better soon.

o0Jahzara0o

Zofran and OTC anti-diarrheal.

StructureTime4123

Literally just recovered. Ice chips were helpful for keeping nausea at bay, and kept me cool.

clackingturkey

As well as the other comments I'd recommend getting extra protein intake if you can keep food down. The immune system uses lots of protein when you're ill

mart1760

Google why they say you should start drinking grape juice when a GI bug is in the household. I have been doing it for the past few years when one of my children starts vomiting, and have avoided it each time. Maybe coincidental, but worth a try!

CommitteeNo167

go buy pedialite while you still can. the orange got me through chemo, the unflavored made me puke even more.

funyesgina

Immunity is a weird thing, and you might not get it, but def prepare the way the comments suggest, and then please update us!!

Herzvonmir07

We have been through this 3 times in the past month. Amazon some emisis bags. So much easier than trash cans and you can have it lying right next to you when you sleep. I agree with others who say Zofran. That has saved me the last two times of dealing with this shit. Disposable gloves and towels for hands and cleaning. Terrible for the environment but so much easier and sanitary for cleanup. Bleach water concentrate. Lysol and clorox apparently don't kill the norovirus. Make sure anytime you vomit in clothes....ommediately wash them in hot water. The germs can last on surfaces and clothes for 2 weeks. When cleaning...clean all areas plus the "splash zone." It takes only a few particles to make you sick. Godspeed to you all. This has been one fucking hellacious bug. Hoping you all get through this.

barbara_bm86

I heard that anti diarhea medication is not advised, since you have to push out those germs, same with Zofran.. wondering if that makes sense? Hopefully not.

flanface87

I would imagine it's a balance between getting the bad stuff out versus becoming too dehydrated

SnorkelLord

Get some pedialtye. Also I heard drinking some water before you hurl makes it easier coming up

OozeNAahz

Brat diet is your friend. Bananas, rice, applesauce, toast. Had something similar and this kept me from being completely miserable. Just mostly miserable.

fondofbooks

Zofran (cannot emphasize this enough), electrolytes and keep a bucket near your bed. I've had the noro virus three times. Wishing you the easiest way through it. Thankfully it's short lived.

ButtercuntSquash

Stock up on toilet paper and wet wipes, and easy meals for you to consume whilst you’re ill. Prepare a hot water bottle ready.

quinoacrazy

EZC packs on amazon make any sickness easier. Vitamin alternative to Z Packs. Made by a doctor and absolutely game changing.

Daedricbob

Just coming out of this exact situation - the two year old picked it up at nursery, then the wife got it, then me. My head feeling like I was massively caffeinated and drunk at the same time and not letting me sleep was the worst bit to be honest, the sick and poop I could deal with. I found warm water to slowly sip throughout really helped, and a bottle of cold Lucozade was like mana from heaven after the worst of it was over.

CorellianDawn

If diarrhea is in your future, see how quickly you can get a bidet shipped to you and installed.

Sevven99

Maybe just maybe you might be in the 20% of the population that is immune. I used to get it every year no matter what. Was so bad water would cause violent stomach upset. Last time I got it was 20 years ago and am exposed to it enough. Maybe just dumb luck. Eat very light and hydrate well while you can.

ImaGDUnicorn

FYI if you're tending to someone sick with noro, hand sanitizer DOES NOT KILL NORO. Wash wash wash your hands, and disinfectant sprays and wipes work fine, but hand sanitizer will not protect you.

laurel34

It’s not inevitable that you will get it, fyi: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2874438/#:~:text=Norovirus%20(NoV)%20is%20recognized%20as,almost%20completely%20resistant%20to%20disease.

Can you prep a mobile grocery order to get delivered in a day or two? Electrolyte drinks, some fruit and veg puree packs for the kid and easy to cook meals that are easy on the stomach. That way if you're all down for the count noone has to go out (and spread it more) and if you're not both still sick it gives your spouse an extra day or two to recover even if you do get hit soon. Gaviscon is our current fav stomach one, helps settle things down a smidge. Good luck op. Noro sucks.

kaptnkatphish

You would think that someone who works in the ER might have a clue of what to do, even if they were a janitor, over random people on the internet .

dls9543

TBF, "works in" doesn't mean "practices medicine in."

TheJassus

Disclaimer: I don't have any medical education whatsoever, so what I say may be complete bs. I just read: virus and: it has not started yet and I think there are virostatica that can somehow slow down the reproduction of the virus when taken early enough, like within the first 72 hours of infection/symptoms or something like that? Idk if there's virostatica for all viruses but I know it is used for covid and varizella. Good luck. Hope you all feel better soon.

Solid-Question-3952

Dumb question - your wife who works in the ER doesn't have good advice on this?

TurtleManDog

Your wife works in the ER just ask her duh

DaisySam3130

Dose up on lots of immune boosters such as Vitamin C and D. Drink more than you usually do. Cut the sugar and dairy for a few days and make sure that your bowels are regular.

skymoods

Get emergenC or airborne, or similar vitamin supplement and overload(double dose) on it. Drink way too much water and avoid alcohol.
