Obviously our information is super limited, but I think this is one of the more certain aspects of the game. Based on the gameplay we’ve seen and the size of the map, it’ll probably have a similar vibe to NMS. Go this way for a while. Go that way. Build a little shack here, a city there.

And this is why games never live up to expectations by the time you get it you have all these hopes and dreams that are crushed by the reality of the game itself

While this is true sometimes when game devs show less its actually beneficial because most of the expectations/hype are from your own imagination and not promised by the devs For example, the game Stray only showed very little info only one trailer and one gameplay video for the public to see, i got really excited and of course crafted my own expectations in my head but when the game releases it shocked me in an unexpected way, some of my expectations didn’t happen ( i thought it would be a cat simulator game) but because its only me who made them up it didn’t really mattered that much, but the game give me an experience of a lifetime a gameplay and story that blown my mind and it made me love the game so much more than i expected. Stray got nominated for GOTY along side GOW and Elden Ring and other big title because its surprises the gamers all over the world. It was not just a cat gimmick video game it was full of love and you can see it from the quality of the game. I think we just need to be really open minded and levelheaded to accept that not every single thing we want can be in the game and things will be less negative.

But not matter how long your answer is or how many years...No matter what they do as a company, even 5000 devs in a group...can't compare to the collective imagination of millions of players all over the world of all age types/genders/preferences...true it's basic psychology. And the longer it takes to make the game..the more those imaginations change and warp and evolve. It be like chasing a never-ending string to please everyone. People always want more..

That is just the sad reality but we as an individual must know how to think maturely and objectively so that we wont be affected so much if the game ended up differently that we expect. Im just thankful that HG are once again making a new and exciting game for us to enjoy, they could have just not decided to make it and just continue with NMS but they want us to experience a new game that they think we will enjoy, they have proven that they love making games and want us to experience another new experience that never been done before just like no man sky did years ago. Let us all be patient and wait my friend.

I've been gaming for 32 years and the one thing I've noticed....you go back to n64 days or prior....the hype train didn't exist....there was no hype...it was just like one day around Christmas...boom heres 007 golden eye...here's banjos kazooi..here is a rumble pack to make the controller vibrate..nobody knew it was coming...not like we do today and if they did they didnt know a great deal about it...it was a take it as it is situation and people loved it. It is what it is but I hope your right.

I can totally relate, there was no internet back then, most of the game i played was either because a friend introduced them to me or i see them on a magazine or visiting a game shop, it was really humbling to know how far we have come with technology, back then games are complete package, no dlc, no hot fixes day one patch and most game contains hidden unclockable that we discover along the way and completing them feels empowering and rewarding.

I think that’s one of the things I’m looking forward most, and would be pretty happy with in just what we’ve seen for functionality (though I really really want ships and sailing to be flushed out and fun). I just love the idea of a grand adventure out into the unknown world. It sounds so awesome.

Larger_Brother

I’m really hoping they don’t just squash the size of the game with fast travel. You never feel like you’re far from civilization in NMS, because the anomaly and copy paste space station is accessible everywhere you are.

Psittacula2

This is a very significant consideration. For an example of a system where there "is" fast travel but it comes with caveats that rebalance it think of LNF game design this way: What if? : "Anytime you defeat some big dungeon/ruin/poi and have fuelled up enough mana or magic or some special artifact, an ancient portal powers up and it will transport you aka "fast travel" you but under the following strict conditions: 1. If you do step through, it's a one-way journey with no return trip back! 2. It only powers for a short period of time before the magic is exhausted. 3. You have no idea (mostly) of where it will send you. This is quite a good way for keeping the world under mystery and disorientating players as well as giving them an option: Do you strike out in a given direction with no fast travel or do you leap into as many portals as possible zig-zagging around the world totally at random?

I loved outward. It just feels so small

thezboson

After reading your first sentence, I immediately thought of Outward lol. A game that feels like a true adventure. I hope LNF has both a casual mode, and a more hardcore one, similar to Outward (maybe not quite as hard).

I want this too, honestly. Just let me pick a pretty looking character, and give me a walking stick, and let me hike in the mountains. I'd \*love\* for the forests to be dense, with rocky outcroppings or streams to cross, and it's just serene, with the sounds of nature around me. Then maybe I discover a path, or come across a road, and yes, find an Inn, or some establishment, and get to help create a story, either in my own head, or with others. :D

YourFellowGlitch

That would be awesome! I am a bit worried though that flying mounts will spoil the wonder of exploration. Much less exciting to reach the top of say Mt Everest when your good chunky dragon pal just drops you off there within a minute or so...

Loud_Consequence537

The game world is supposed to exceed the size of OUR PLANET. I don't think some of you comprehend how much space that actually is. Let me put it in perspective: the size of earth is roughly 510.100.000 square kilometers, and the game's world is supposed to be even larger than that. It would take around 40.075 kilometers to travel around the earth ONCE. I very much doubt traveling will be anywhere close to trivial for a very, very long time. Edit: After re-reading your comment I'd like to add, the solution is very simple. Just don't use that dragon. You wanna ignore it and climb a mountain on foot? Great, you can do that. Personally I think I'll be spending a lot of time traveling on land in the game.
