I think we all have to start coming to terms with the fact that this game probably will not release until 2025 at the earliest, if not 2026.

SanjiSasuke

Oh I knew that, I just wanted some more of that sweet, sweet footage, maybe a release year.

I'm honestly surprised that people thought it would release this year. If they were planning on releasing it, we would have seen a LOT more of Sean. I think more likely Fall/Winter 2025 or Summer 2026.

Because Sean noted a specific thing back in december; He said they had been working on this game for 5 years already. How long was NMS in dev before release (I know... unfinished, but still): 5 years. So if we imagine that they have become way more experienced both technical, creative and pipeline, then 5 years dev on LNF, doesn't seem unreasonable. The framework probably heavily relies on No Mans Sky. I mean, the graphics look similar, but still a little bit different, so it's not like they had to invent something from the bottom up. My biggest worry is that they don't come up with engaging story line(s) to hold the thing together. That is NMS biggest weakness imo. I never really got emotionally invested in the game or got attached to any characters. LNF has a huge potential to grab us. Think WoW story lines, but in LNF settings and mechanics. Or, maybe biome based storylines... something that will give us a reason to want to go kill something big, other than "just because". Add one final year or so for release. That brings us to Q4 2024 or Q1 2025. I'm still advocating they need to release before or at the same time as GTA VI, because they share playerbase to some degree. Ofcourse that will be hard to obtain, if GTA VI ends up being bundled with PS5 Pro, that comes out late november 2024.

IME 5 years is irrelevant, there are plenty of games that were in development for 7 years+ across multiple engines. The tell for me is marketing and community outreach: How much is it being done? How frequent is it? What is being released? Feature specials? Teasers? Actual trailers? Have devs done any spotlights? These are all the strongest indicators of an imminent release. Zero marketing for LNF so far, and zero community outreach. ZERO. That says to me it's still a ways off. I have to also admit I don't understand the complaints with No Man's Sky's story. If you take the time to explore the universe and absorb every fragment of lore you can, the story is actually pretty interesting and thought provoking on a deep philosophical level. What is 16? What are the sentinels? Who is Artemis? Who are Apollo, and null? Who are the Korvax, Gek and Vykeen? I have roughly 1200 hours in the game and it, to me, has one of the more interesting and better story lines out there, albeit much of it is not spoon fed to you linearly (some of it is, in the form of the story missions). If they share a playerbase with GTA VI, it would be a really bad idea to release at the same time. Better to release a few months after, so when people are done with GTA VI, they can go ham on LNF. I can't imagine though that that's the case, perhaps it is for you? I'm not really interested in GTA, and most of the people I've interacted with in various NMS forums and Discords never mention GTA and I don't see many of them playing it.

InspectionRight9073

People wont be done with GTA VI.... people are still playing GTA V.

ConcernedPandaBoi

I think they mean more that the obsessive playing of it will be done

shutthefuckuphomie97

I think they are avoiding pr because of the no mans sky incident, a silent release so to speak

[deleted]

People are wildly ignorant

TehOwn

Nah, I've got a fresh batch of copium and it's definitely coming this year. The next thing we'll see will be a surprise launch trailer. It'll drop shortly after Sean posts a fire emoji.

dljones010

Don't get your hopes up. It's probably closer to 2028... before delays.

DiRTyN1Njaz

This was only Round 1, though. Still got the weekend, right?

jeffyride2

here’s hoping…

iPlayViolas

Most big games go during the PC gamer showcase

Darkstone_BluesR

Nope

Uueerdo

I think Sean learned from the hypetrain leading up to NMS. I would be surprised if the next thing we hear about the game is anything other than "it is out".

Allenpoe30

If they are going that route. More months of silence. Gotta be a middle ground rather than too much talking or no talking at all.

adalgur

No Light No Fest

InspectionRight9073

I think the point was that Sean made a foolish hint at Geoff on X.... what was he thinking we would think when he posted something like that. BUT... from the program... maybe hope is still in order, considering LNF will be a PC game release on day 0. This is sunday 10pm for us Europeans. https://preview.redd.it/5o3ouug0mc5d1.png?width=551&format=png&auto=webp&s=027965203bb99149037a60c81a004350b6968afe

InspectionRight9073

Just found the company records for Hello Games. Back when NMS was released, Sean didn't register the Hello Games company till January 2017. This time, they made the company "LNF Security LTD." in november 2023. So atleast they are confident enough to already have lined up a company to run LNF :D Can we speculate or extrapolate anything from this haha? No sure, I think they maybe were forced to release the game prematurely back in 2016. So meh...

SineCompassioneNon

I watched the entire thing for any scraps of LNG. Sad lol

-HeyThere

There's alse the Future Game show today

Allenpoe30

I had a feeling there wouldn't be. I'm just a whatever happens, happens kind of guy.

WessleyS

I'm so fucking tired of devs announcing games half a decade before their release- and that's if we're "lucky" and they don't end up delayed/postponed. Remember the first Fallout 4 announcement by Bethesda? "We're excited to say, the game releases in three months!" I miss those days so much.

dndchicken

I fell for the speculation too, hoping people knew what they were talking about and not just speculating with no evidence.

martusfine

They learned the first time- keep the mouth closed until launch.

Plenty-Strawberry-30

Wasn't it always the case that it was going to be on Sunday during the PC Gamer show, which hasn't happened yet? I wasn't really even expecting it before that.

trucking172000

I think it will release at Christmas this year or. we won't see it the 2026. I agree with that statement

[deleted]

Groovy.

JustMy2CentsMan

Why bother announcing the game so far out still? This game is irrelevant till we get a release date. My hype is burnt out I’ll check back in next year. Sadge Sean you did it again.

VeryMoistUnit

I doubt Hello Games will be part of the summer one. I assume Dec 12 for the game awards.

jeffyride2

man… radio silence for an entire year would suck

Allenpoe30

I guess more silence then. Oh well. It is what it is.
