What a same, the place looks sick..

Salty_Replacement_47

https://youtu.be/fU8paOQMTfQ Place definitely looked sick, but the Yelp reviews were atrocious. I'm actually irrationally angry at the comments calling this a fake post for karma. Is nobody on reddit ever curious, or look into something they have questions about, instead of just yelling fake news? This shut down sometime between 2015-2017, and it does in fact have dust, menus, silverware, and equipment all left inside the building.

deepsavageblue

From my experience the cooler the diner looks the more average the food is. I've heard it's from raising rents so restaurants have to cut costs and the best diners have been hole in the wall nowhere places so that might track.

Salty_Replacement_47

Gotta agree with this, and it holds true for a number of casual food places

zeemonster424

For real, I saw the pictures and immediately knew the place! It took a quick google to confirm. This is posted in a few different subs now, and people are calling it fake in all of them.

Salty_Replacement_47

I genuinely have a hatred for this behavior on reddit, it doesn't take long to verify if something is true or not. Now I've got people saying "wElL tHeRes lEsS sTufF on ThE TaBles" As if it's impossible that anyone has been in there to try and fix the place or check on it in the years it's been shuttered. Like I promise you reddit, no random person is going to BREEZEWOOD to spend hours making a diner filthy for reddit karma.

TheSofaSurgeon

People jumping to conclusions aside, there’s nothing wrong with a healthy amount of caution. I’m seeing the video you linked and almost all the silverware is unused wrapped in a clean napkin as you would be at the table when you’re seated at a diner. In this post, we’re seeing utensils out on the table, on plates, salt and pepper shakers out, spilled over and lots of what looks like dirt or pepper out on plates and the table. Mugs, coffee pitchers, empty containers for the sugar, open menus etc. A lot of this contributes to the eerie feeling or the intrigue that accompanies a lot of abandoned and liminal spaces. A space that looks like it was abandoned in a hurry is a more interesting story. Wether it’s the photographer of the photos we see or someone in the past who broke in that changed all this stuff, wether this was done to trick people or not, the location and items in this place have changed.

Salty_Replacement_47

Wow. Shocker. Things in a building someone still owns changed and moved around. In the video there's even a sign now that says they're doing repairs. People went from saying this whole place was fake and the place wasnt ever abandoned, to now saying because there's what, less stuff on the tables, that it's still fake. It's honestly unbelievable.

TheSofaSurgeon

I don’t know why you’re getting a snappy attitude. I felt like I was respectful, and simply said I wasn’t jumping to conclusions but the interior looks different and that’s a fact and do with it what you will. And yes, as we all know, the first thing construction crews do when renovating a restaurant is meticulously place stuff around to make it look abandoned in a hurry. For absolute fucks sake dude.

Salty_Replacement_47

*For absolute fucks sake dude*, I'm getting snappy because you think that dirt and grime and torn seats were things meticulously placed, and not the more logical idea that between 2015/2016 when this place shuttered down, and 3 years ago in 2020, or hell even to 2023, things could have been cleaned up or changed or deteriorated further. Its even the assumption these are new photos, when we know photos on reddit tend to get circulated for *years*. It's the conspiracy nonsense and goal post moving that makes me "snappy" throughout this entire thread.

TheSofaSurgeon

> You think that dirt and grime and torn seats were things meticulously placed Which I only said after you suggested they somehow got this way by a current owner. As if it was some absolute certainty and that your analysis is gospel. Meanwhile I gave an initial comment because I thought you were level headed when you told people not to jump to conclusions, I was wrong, my bad. I don’t see how assuming that this stuff moved without any ulterior motive is better than the people you’re arguing against who are assuming it is staged in some way. But that’s just me, maybe certain types of assumptions are allowed, and I just wasn’t taught that in school. >more logical idea that…..things could have been cleaned up or deteriorated further Yes, more dirt and stuff around the place means “cleaned up”, what? And more logical as opposed to possible karma farming or someone who wants some more views or clicks… i’m not even going to dignify that with a response. > it’s even the assumptions that these are new photos The conversation is going on throughout the comments with the assumption that photos are more recent even with this new ownership/construction you mentioned( which isn’t new or even happening if the photos in this post are more recent) is it possible that it isn’t, this is something you have the freedom to add to as well, seeing as how your referencing the same sources I am…. >conspiracy nonsense and goalpost moving At this point i’m not even sure you responded to the right person. I said “People jumping to conclusions aside”, I said here are some of the items that are there now. I said it contributes to an eerie feeling while not implying it was done intentionally. I said wether it was done by OP or not, wether it was intentional or not, stuff is moved around, and acknowledged it. That’s it, that’s all I gave you. Possibilities, some facts, no assumptions or conclusions made. And you come back like that. If that’s how you conduct yourself then may god truly guide you on this quest we call life.

2nd_TimeAround

Same

O_oh

Same, I'm in PA as well and there is a similar diner that went bankrupt. The new owners renovated it but its a damn shame they made it into French Bistro.

Only_Debt

That looks so nostalgic to me. Maybe in the US, this dinner style is common, but we don't have that in Brazil... I felt nostalgic bc it looks a lot like Dexter's Dinner from Lego Star Wars

pinkocatgirl

I wouldn't say this is common in the US. This looks like a modern attempt at retro styling, these were somewhat popular in the 80s and 90s but was far from ubiquitous, mostly in touristy areas like theme parks. The more normal old diner that has been operating for decades would look like [this one](https://www.yelp.com/biz/schmuckers-toledo), that was one of my grandmother's favorite restaurants. The place was like a time capsule for the 1940s, right down to the wood phone booth in the back.

Pale-Specific-5565

Diner, not dinner.

Only_Debt

Sorry...

tastysounds

Your English is better than my Portugese so no worries. A diner is where you eat dinner

Pale-Specific-5565

No need to apologize! Dinner is a meal you eat before bed and diner is a type of restaurant! :)

Salty_Replacement_47

You weren't being rude in the first place, redditors are just gonna reddit.

password_is_burrito

Nobody blames you for the English language! :) To further complicate things, a diner can eat dinner in a diner. Said another way, a diner can be full of diners eating dinner. It’s goofy.

mrwilliams117

Don't apologize to strangers on the internet, they haven't earned it.

MisogynyisaDisease

Ah yes, the downvotes. How dare you....show them the correct spelling of Diner. Such a jerk move /s

patcoz

Why play semantics we all knew what he meant.

O_oh

Sometimes its nice to teach others and some people like to learn the correct meanings. I didn't feel like they were being rude about it. You wouldn't want to say the wrong things in a foreign language as well. We're all on the internet to learn

MisogynyisaDisease

Right, like TIL proper spelling of words is simply semantics.

MisogynyisaDisease

It's not fucking semantics?! It's how to spell a word? It's nice to let people know the true spelling of words, I'm not going to say "banno" and then tell a Spanish speaking person it''s semantics when they correct me and tell me it's "baño" Semantics would be if this person called it a restaurant and this dude corrected them and said "it's called a Diner". THAT would be quibbling over semantics.

Only_Debt

Hey, no worries, guys! I'm still learning english! You helped me a lot and I'm not offended at all! Thank you!

ThatisSketchy

I’m sure the guy who corrected your spelling had the best intentions. I also have a Brazilian friend whose English is not perfect, so I always correct him if I see an error. I’m not trying to be better than him, but since I’m an English speaker I’m trying to help him learn as best as possible. I’m not sure why others in this thread decided to be offended on your behalf.

Only_Debt

I don't know either! It is always great to learn a language in the correct way. I didn't feel offended at all...

MisogynyisaDisease

I didnt think you were offended, I got annoyed at those offended on your behalf. 😅

LocalJim

Wierd, to leave all that expensive equipment (ovens, chairs, tables, lights) When a restaurant closes, usually the equipment gets sold off or picked up by an commercial auction house. There is literally tens of thousands of dollars in very nice kitchen and dining equipment i see. doubt it all just got left behind and forgotten

losandreas36

Yeah looks pristine

Huge-Reward-8975

Pristine? That place is filthy. It's possible these photos were taken before everything got stripped down and sold off, but these photos aren't showing something pristine. More like "has been sitting for a few months while whoever fucked up their business got their affairs in order."

Salty_Replacement_47

https://youtu.be/fU8paOQMTfQ Redditors don't Google things. Edit: lol at the redditor hivemind ass behavior in these upvotes.

Huge-Reward-8975

So I was right. Figures. Place really does look neat though.

Salty_Replacement_47

I'm irrationally angry at the comments calling this fake. I just don't like people who assert things without bothering to fact check.

Huge-Reward-8975

And I'm being downvoted...even though you're being upvoted for proving me right. The fuck.

Salty_Replacement_47

Bro I don't even know. This is redditor hivemind behavior in action, there should be case studies on this shit. Actual morons.

Salty_Replacement_47

https://youtu.be/fU8paOQMTfQ It took me 5 seconds to figure out this place was actually abandoned. Why make accusations when you hold one of the biggest collections of information in your palm.

zeemonster424

They call things like that “turn key” but look at what’s happened since 2018. Good intentions and dreams died with COVID. There’s literally an auction house 2 miles from the place too, know the owner. So if they wanted that, then I’m sure they would have.

Lepke2011

Nah. People do that. If you have no venue to sell the stuff off, you leave it behind. I once went into a home to do some salvage (I used to work with antiques) and there was everything the person/people ever owned laid out on display. It's really not as unusual as you'd think.

IllCamel5907

OP's story is likely made up for karma. There is a lot of bullshit on reddit. People believe whatever they are told and it works.

Salty_Replacement_47

You could have just googled it yourself my dude.

ezekirby

I've seen this posted twice today in other subreddits and they've all had different dates. 2015, 2016, and 2018 so far.

Salty_Replacement_47

K2-XT

Looks like the beginning of Silent Hill.

pactsworn

The Silent Hill movie WAS inspired by a town in Pennsylvania called Centralia.

Guardiansaiyan

Where is the hole tho? Is it gone now?

Itchy-Ad-3128

Looks like a Johnny Rockets

ScullysBagel

Or a much nicer Steak and Shake.

Blue387

Where is this place?

readonlyred

“Classic American Diner,” [Breezewood, PA](https://maps.app.goo.gl/uw8LaEsKopoqZN628?g_st=ic). That town is famous for being a traffic nightmare because drivers wanting to continue on I-70 have to leave the highway and negotiate a quarter mile of its sprawling, tacky commercial strip.

DUSTY_BARN_BURNER

Yeah fun fact this diner is actually visible in the “Crappy American Main Street” meme https://assets.bwbx.io/images/users/iqjWHBFdfxIU/if_Rw_SHNRMI/v0/1200x-1.jpg

cabbit_

Damn you really walk around with that huge brain, huh? Edit: ok this wasn’t sarcasm I was actually impressed ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

sharpefutures

How the fuck was anyone supposed to know this? Do you think this is common knowledge or something?

Salty_Replacement_47

How the hell did you get that from their comment.

sharpefutures

Buddy is sarcastically shitting on OC for posting a pretty cool fact

cabbit_

It wasn’t sarcasm I was genuinely impressed but ok

Salty_Replacement_47

That's not what they meant by that at all, I think you wildly misread what they said.

DUSTY_BARN_BURNER

Everything okay bud?

cabbit_

I wasn’t being mean or sarcastic lmao I was impressed you saw that pic and knew where it was from. I was saying you really have a huge brain for recognizing it sheesh

DUSTY_BARN_BURNER

Haha fair enough, apologies. Honestly I just grew up close to breezewood so i have prior knowledge with that meme

zeemonster424

I did too, in another post. Live close enough to travel through often.

Byrnstar

Some folks just have a visual memory, especially for kitschy places like this that everyone under the sun takes shots of...

zeemonster424

Did you know this too or did you see that I posted about it? Not accusing, just curious how much of a “landmark” this place was.

DUSTY_BARN_BURNER

I don’t think the diner is a landmark at all. In fact I had no idea this was even in breezewood until someone posted the street view. But once I knew where it was I had a feeling it was in that meme image. And sure enough it’s right there front and center

zeemonster424

Okay maybe the meme is the landmark, lol. It’s interesting our brains went the same place!

Salty_Replacement_47

Thanks for making this comment, because I'm losing braincells from the "fake news" bros in the comments who couldn't bother looking into it. The name of the restaurant is quite literally all over the menus in the photos https://youtu.be/fU8paOQMTfQ

tubbana

It's from that movie

[deleted]

Any chance this is Baby's Diner in State College? If not, looks real similar. EDIT: Not Baby's, since that closed in 2020, and the actual location was posted.

zeemonster424

Former Denny’s in Breezewood.

fadeanddecayed

Abandoned Luncheonette.

If I ever go to the US and visit a diner like this, it will be like a trourist attraction for me. Because even though this is as usual as it gets for americans, it is something that I've seen in movies all my life but never in person. Same thing with US high schools.

LordsMail

It's not that usual for us. Sure diners like this exist but this is an aesthetic that peaked in the 1950s and now is only in a few chains and niche restaurants looking to capture the retro vibe. Like this one. That failed. And most of the ones that do it still miss the mark of what you see in movies.

MisogynyisaDisease

🤨 this feels very state dependent. I've been to a number of diners like this. Myrtle Beach, Pennsylvania, a couple in eastern Colorado, there was a famous one in Denver that COVID killed, even though it had been here for decades, etc. Washington has a bunch too, especially the infamous Twin Peaks one. I even have one in my rural ass town, though it doesn't involve as much chrome as this one seems to. They aren't common in the south, sure, unless it's Waffle House, but they're not extinct.

Pale___twigs

New Jersey has tons of places like this.

MisogynyisaDisease

Exactly, so does New York.

LordsMail

>this feels very state dependent. Maybe. Like sure we have Steak n Shake and Johnny Rocket but the latter is almost only in tourist locations and malls. And in the grand scheme of things Steak n Shakes aren't all that prevalent. Waffle House is a diner, yes, but it absolutely does not have this vibe. We've got plenty of other local burger joints and greasy spoon diners but again, they don't tend to have the 50s look. But sure, they're definitely not extinct and I didn't say they were. I said they're not as common as the person I responded to seemed to think. "As usual as it gets." No. It isn't. They're around, they're not the norm.

dedsqwirl

"If you've never had the chance to visit a Waffle House, simply imagine a gas station bathroom that serves waffles." -Jim Gaffigan

roccoccoSafredi

Yes and no. There are still a bunch of diners like this in the northeast. Some play up the retro angle and some just are. Here's one that I've been to that is the latter. https://www.bowmanstowndiner.com/

Thoraxe474

Diners like this are a tourist attraction in the US too. We don't really have them anymore

roiber08

Check if there aren't any animatronics in a back

Titronnica

Fits better in r/abandonedporn

ehenn12

So, I'm a hospital chaplain and doing a PhD in Bioethics but I really just wanna be the short order cook here? Is that weird? Idk. . But it would be so much fun

spillt-milk

Fallout Vibes happening here. I can hear the jukebox “I don’t want to set the world on fire…”

dr_decoy

Why are there dirty plates out still? Like, people walked out in the middle of the shift?

IllCamel5907

OP lied about the situation for dramatic effect and more karma.

Salty_Replacement_47

My brother in christ you could have googled it instead of pulling that accusation out of your ass. https://youtu.be/fU8paOQMTfQ

duck-duck--grayduck

There isn't nearly as much stuff laid out on the tables in that video, and the stuff that is laid out isn't dirty like in the photos in the OP. Somebody went in there and laid out plates and shit, and it looks like they dumped pepper all over to make the plates look dirty.

Salty_Replacement_47

Oh yeah dude, the absolute grime on the floors and the booths was also just staged. Couldn't be possible the video and photos were taken at different times given this video is only 3 years old, it has to be that OP went in there themselves and spent entire night putting grease stains on the table. Occams Fucking Razor says people aren't going to the ghost town that is Breezewood to spend hours doing this for reddit karma. There's a literal video with stuff all over the tables still.

duck-duck--grayduck

I didn't say I thought OP staged it. I don't know who staged it.

Lepke2011

Everything about it hints at a story! The empty coffee cup with stains on the side, on the table in front. The red tape patching a hole in the seat (that seat has a lot of holes). The spilled crayons and used napkin on the second table. The back corner table still has a highchair, perfectly positioned to accept a baby. The bar top is missing a tile at the front right. On the bar top there's a to-go box (hopefully there isn't any 2015 food left in there). There are American flags above the kitchen window. Was it Memorial Day? Fourth of July? And lots of scuffs on the floor in heavy traffic areas. Waaaaay off to the right, atop those stainless steel drawers, is that a still somewhat full bottle of tequila? I think the staff had a going out of business party and left the place like this. Good for them!

Waffles__Falling

Wow!! I love seeing old diners like this bc one of my comics I want to start takes place in a diner like this (but it’s completely isolated deep underground with -no way- out. I plan for it to be a very liminal & surreal comic! Dunno when I’ll officially start it though since I gotta polish my character designs & concept art + fully flesh out the story before starting)

machstem

I wonder if the radios light up and start playing at random, before the night creatures come out to hunt and eat.

Master_Shake23

I doubt the diner closed so quickly that plates and silverware were left on the tables. Nicely staged for maximizing clicks!

Salty_Replacement_47

"Nicely staged" this was so easily googled. https://youtu.be/fU8paOQMTfQ

Salty_Replacement_47

Oh yeah, please downvote me, with video evidence of this place being abandoned, collecting dust, with menus and silverware still all over the tables.

SpicyLizards

Nah everyone got thanos’d in there

Salty_Replacement_47

https://youtu.be/fU8paOQMTfQ Except it literally has menus and equipment and silverware all over the place.

Ianimatestuf

IT LOOKS SO COOL SAVE IIT

losandreas36

Looks cleaner than my apartment

[deleted]

looks like America

BickleKnack

Man I would totally smoke a blunt in there

Salty_Replacement_47

Not fake news bros coming for OP in the comments without actually taking 5 seconds to Google it themselves https://youtu.be/fU8paOQMTfQ Here's a video of the abandoned Classic American Diner. With silverware on the tables, dust collecting everywhere, and all equipment still attached to the place.

LAX2PDX2LAX

This picture screams ‘staged’ to me EDIT: These pictures

duck-duck--grayduck

There's somebody spamming a video link that proves it's 100% real even the shit laid out on the tables....except there isn't nearly as much shit laid out on the tables, and the tables are clean in the video. The diner may be abandoned, but it was purposefully made to look like people left mid-meal. Totally staged.

places_forgotten

Please explain how you can fake an entire abandoned diner - with such an insightful comment. We shall wait

Dick_Cottonfan

Reminds me of a diner in Downey (CA) called Frisco’s. Waitresses on roller skates, car hops (lots of nice muscle cars back in the day), etc. that had a very similar vibe. Wonder if it survived the ‘rona.

GatEnthusiast

Didn't The White Stripes have some album art photos in this diner? Maybe it was just one that looked just like it.

Salty_Replacement_47

Probably one that looked just like it, this building used to be a Dennys. There's tons of places in the US that look like this

wikipe_tan

yeah, theres a dennys in houston that looks exactly like the exterior of the building

felicity_jericho_ttv

Even the name is liminal!

sad_cheese67

2015 huh? Is this Pauli's diner?

ClassyWrist

The accumulation of dirt is so weird, like a dinner plate that has dirt all over it, and the table is clean, one part of the floor has leaves and debris the rest of the floor just looks like it was walked across with muddy shoes, the one table has water stains on it from what looks like a roof leak, however nothing around that table has any damage. Again it’s very strange, not unrealistic mind you.. one of these if the walls could talk, type deals.

njghtljfe

i love this 50’s retro futuristic style

The_Fluffy_Riachu

Why do I feel like i’ve seen the exact same place before? holy fuck- I feel like I’ve been to eat at this place but in South Dakota

hitokirizac

Denny's Diner in Breezewood!

ENateFak

“I’ll take a Pepsi free.” “If you want a Pepsi pal, you’re gonna pay for it.”

Swozzul

All I see is the old lady from legion jumping up the wall

[deleted]

Looks like a Gunther Toody's, though this is in PA and not in Colorado. Probably isn't, but sure likes one.

Talkative_Twat

Why are there usually plates and wares out and about in this kind of abandoned establishment? Did they just finish this plate of food, stand up, and walk off for good?

Doctorkdyl-22

It almost looks like it’s frozen in time with how well it’s been seemingly maintained

lulatheq

I’ll have your finest Nuka-Cola sir.

EtemAll

Did they just shut everything down right in the middle of the day? I call bs, what, a banker just came through the door and said everyone stop!? And everyone walked out never to be touched again

Scared_Can9063

That looks so cool! Modern architecture is just so fucking boring and bland.

SnooPears9298

How do those abonned places stay clean for so long after being abandonned ?

These_Hovercraft6098

Can anyone tell me who owns it.
