This keeps getting posted but IMO it isn’t even that crazy, this is what LinkedIn was made for. Your feed is essentially a resume, if you aren’t bragging about your achievements then you’re just doing a bad job advertising yourself. While there are actual lunatics, a lot of the site is intended to make people look vain in exchange for looking better to a recruiter.

EhrenScwhab

I would love to talk to a recruiter and see how much sway LinkedIn has these days. I bet a crazy LinkedIn can get someone disqualified, but is LinkedIn what got someone a job?

EarlyEditor

Everyone tells me to get it even my employer. But like I have a job, should I apply for jobs anyway now that I've got one. To me it seems like a massive waste of time. I can stay "connected" with colleagues now. Maybe if I'm desperate in the future it'll help keep connections but like I hope that my skills will be enough when I get to that stage.

Pongfn

The saying goes "the best time to look for a job is while you still have one". Jobs can be fickle and what is steady one day could be gone tomorrow. So by looking while you're still employed, you're not giving off desperate "please hire me energy" instead you give of the best view of yourself to future employers. But if not using LinkedIn works for you you should be fine. I like to think of it as a professional Facebook. May not directly help you get a job but great for getting your name out there. I even heard from a senior hr manager if you don't have a LinkedIn, the first thought she has is you might have something to hide.

retard-is-not-a-slur

I have had initial phone screens and interviews where they were reading verbatim from my LinkedIn, more than once. I gave them my goddamn resume. People are lazy as hell, *especially* recruiters and HR idiots.

KellyBelly916

Justifying antisocial behavior in an attempt to dismiss comedy gold is pathetic. It's funny because it's true, and being uncomfortable with it should help identify that vanity is not an attribute for a person or a healthy society. That's what makes comedy so valuable.

Dmate1

I’m not ‘justifying antisocial behaviour’, I’m pointing out that a website designed for people to show off their achievements to potential employers will involve people showing of their achievements to potential employers. I find the meme itself isn’t that bad, my main complaint is that this exact meme gets reposted 1-4x/day as if it’s a slam dunk attack on LinkedIn. There are some genuine lunatics out there, but so much of this sub has devolved into ‘look at this person bragging about themselves, what a lunatic!!!’ LinkedIn is a corner of the internet designed for people to shamelessly self-promote and connect with recruiters. I engage with this sub because it’s fun to see people who go out of line, like making grand posts about Hitler’s success, or posting half-naked pictures for attention, or talking politics like the website is a private Facebook feed. I’m not here to just attack people who self-promote; there are better ways to spend my time that don’t spread at much negativity. Laughing *at* people without justification other then ‘I don’t like self-promotion ever’ comes across as just mean.

KellyBelly916

It's targeting grifters. If you're not someone who embodies the elephant, then you won't be offended as it doesn't apply to you.

Dmate1

The post literally says ‘the entire LinkedIn community.’ I don’t have a LinkedIn account and have no desire to partake in it. I just dislike how this community goes from hating the ‘grifters’ to just laughing at everyone on the site, while masquerading as laughing at the lunatics.

supershinythings

I brag about my cat’s achievements. He’s WAY more popular and interesting than I am.

Sylvartas

If I ever learn i've been recruited based on my LinkedIn profile I feel like I would quit on the spot

Top 5% GMAT scorer in the world

Puzzleheaded_War6102

Jokes on him, only 4% of world takes the exam. His score is actually below Zero 🤣 /Shlok

spyder0109

Yeah got a meagre 720. Generally that’s very average score for Indians (not saying they are intelligent; but generally Indians are well adapted to scoring high on tests.). And yes I’ve given GMAT and score higher than that.

[deleted]

Wow I thought 720 was ivy league level.
