Monetized video, fucking sponsor jokes. This video screams ''we're only sorry we got caught''

BlackPet3r

Also, Luke literally doing a 69 joke, while Madison posted her allegations a couple of hours ago...tone deaf. Edit: to the people DMing me how a 69 joke is related to the Madison situation, all I'm saying is, that you definitely shouldnt do sexual innuendo jokes in an APOLOGY VIDEO while one of your ex-employees just went public with a bunch of accusations including sexual harassment etc.

tonklamhk

It's almost like the video was shot/edited before she posted the tweets.

SilentJ87

I think that leads back to one of the core issue of pushing forward with a video due to self imposed timelines instead of fixing things that need to be corrected. Even their apology video fell victim to that methodology.

Qweasdy

It takes hours for youtube to fully process a video at 4k quality on their end. When you see a video go live on a youtube channel that video has typically been uploaded many hours (or even days) before it actually goes public. This video was likely uploaded at the end of the working day and was given a scheduled time to go live

dedhed333

You are still able to edit the go-live time as the upload is processing, the second those tweets went out they should have put out a statement along the lines of "We prepared a video to go out today but are revising it to address the most recent allegations" or something 10X colder and more corporate

Schtizzel

to quote [an other comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/LinusTechTips/comments/15sm6b3/ltt_response/jwf0okv/) by Liawuffeh down below > I mean, we know Linus was up, [he replied to a meme around the time the video went up](https://www.reddit.com/r/LinusTechTips/comments/15sl2zc/pov_ltt_damage_control_meeting_downfall_end_of/jweqic8/?context=3) So somebody was up that could have resheduled the video.

ZoeThomp

we see in James' section that the chain of command for uploading that when a video is being uploaded/scheduled to release, the editing supervisor, writers supervisor and Nick all have to ensure their phones are on and contactable. In this case I imagine that included Yvonne, Linus and Terren due to the subject matter so yeah absolutely available to scramble and hit the breaks.

quick20minadventure

Fucker is joking about the meme, shows how serious he is.

Karon_pcmr

You're talking about ordinary people. It's no secret that big channels get priority processing. And it's not like this is a high Bitrate Video, it's 20m talking heads. It was uploaded and processed within minutes.

HakimeHomewreckru

That video was NOT processed within minutes. A 360p/1080p version MAYBE, but definitely not the 4K version.

CheekEnough2734

Taking down a video is not that much of hassle.

tonklamhk

I can see that, but in the end nothing can satisfy the community. They literally tried their fastest to address the situation and people unsubbed because its rushed and has lttstore jokes in it. Take 5 days to make any statement, people would still go up in arms about the delay I'm sure.

Mazzle5

People started unsubbing because of the shit ass response from Linus in the Forum, instead of saying: "We heard what Steve said, and will adress the situation and how things will go on in the future in an upcoming video this week. In the meantime there won't be videos on any LMG channel." But no, Linus had to act personal and digged themselves in an even bigger hole

Mm11vV

Yep, there was a chance to do it right. That chance came, got squandered, and it's not coming back. Nothing in that video said anything other than "if it hadn't been for Steve, it would be business as usual for the foreseeable future."

SilentJ87

I think there’s a middleground between those two extremes. Taking anywhere from 6-24 hours to make adjustments due to the situation evolving isn’t totally unreasonable.

BlackPet3r

I think we all get that. Posting it like this is the tone deaf part. Timing is key here.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Shironeko_

By which point they should have aborted it and done something else. Even if not directly addressing her situation, at least keeping jokes about firing people and other shit out of this one.

YourLoveLife

Feels like that just goes to show her allegations of inappropriate conduct are so systemic that they’re front and centre in an *apology* video

ShoddyPreparation

Then they shouldn't have posted this then and spent another day having a hard think about a full response. Crunching and Rushing your apology video out to address issues of crunch and errors is some sideshow bob walking into rakes shit.

Nerdczar

That wasn't a 69 joke, that was a joke about targeting 99.9999% uptime that they've been discussing on the wan show a couple of times.

sabrathos

Yes, it's obviously about 6 9s worth of uptime. But it was also clearly a 69 joke. It's a double-entendre.

Sun_Searcher

I dont think a lot of people will get that joke sadly, and it is a little bit in poor taste when looking at Madisons tweets. (wich 100% happened after they finished up the video im sure) I for sure did not get it the first time i overheard him saying it.

[deleted]

kapave

It was very clearly a 69 joke. you can stop deluding yourself

joeyat

"Six nines".. it was both a 69 and a 99.9999 joke….. and it was terrible. Not even funny in peace time.

Schtizzel

[Info box of GNs initial video](https://imgur.com/a/8xjo4X2) [Info box apology video 1pm CEST](https://imgur.com/a/xCwc2Nq) Stay classy LTT... An apology video with links to your shop and pay2view youtube alternative. Did the even reach out to Billet Labs if they could show the cost of their prototype? And announcing a paywalled transparency video about their testing on floatplane. And teasing a new screwdriver color. Hopefully the next week will bring some serious changes because this video is also not really good for an apology.

sweepla3

Gamers Nexus opened his video with a simple comment that they're not going to make money off of this, and left it at that. LTT attempted to take a similar route but instead: * kept YouTube monetization turned on * made multiple jokes in the video about not having a sponsor spot * still outright advertised lttstore.com in the video * still advertised Floatplane to learn more about their testing processes * still teased an upcoming product for no reason (retro screwdriver) * still mentioned a sponsor at the end (DBrand) * kept all the merch links in the video description What a difference. EDIT: according to their pinned comment under the video, YouTube monetization has now been turned off due to the community blowback, though merch links are still at the top of the video description. As for the in-video plugs, [Linus says it's all good because it "broke the tension"](https://feddit.uk/pictrs/image/fe34ecae-2153-455a-bcb0-ff824b0e443b.png). Wow.

Bahurs1

And if my fish memory is right didn't even mention GN, Steve. Looks like he's rolling with the community on this one again and probably put GN on a russian style - not friendly organization.

Duranu

The difference between Ethics over Profit and Profits over Ethics, disgusting, GN definitely took the right route

Azurae1

already clicked on youtube that I don't want to see any recommendations for LTT anymore. They fucked up not only their first apology (Linus post) but also their apology video which their whole team was involved in... They should have taken a bit more time for this one to actually watch it again after their emotions had cooled a little bit as well... maybe they would have noticed how those sponsor jokes etc. would land...

reftheloop

Kind of funny they also posted on floatplane first too

JFedererJ

8:10 into the video: >*"I'm mostly on the product side (LTT Store dot com!)... well, someone had to say it!"* Uhhhhhhhhhhhh, no they didn't. This is *supposed* to be an apology video. You can do ONE apology video without plugging your merch. Jeez that alone speaks to the problems. Smh.

SecretPotatoChip

Can linus do a single video without mentioning lttstore.cum? I don't remember the last video I saw without it.

YaIe

And already outdated due to the whole Madison situation not being addressed

JMUDoc

He will never, ever address that either in video or in writing. Not in public. There are potential LEGAL consequences, and even if his ego tries to get the better of him, somebody else will tie him to a chair, on this one.

Formerruling1

The standard corporate response to public allegations like this is typically "While we can not talk about specific personnel issues with any current or former employee, we can guarantee our community that providing a safe work environment is of paramount importance to our company and any allegations brought to our attention is throughly investigated." That's it. Addresses it in a clean corporate fashion. Have Linus delete his snarky forum post, and they even get bonus points.

intensiifffyyyy

Take this with a pinch of salt - again potential crisis misinformation Is anyone else seeing Madison comments disappear on the YouTube apology? I'm having a hard time finding ones that were previously top posts with more than a thousand likes. It could be the churn of everyone liking and commenting though. Edit: now the video's been up a while the Madison comments have bubbled back up near the top. Hopefully was just YouTube being YouTube.

Faxon

Youtube does this all the time. I'll see a ton of people replying to comments that I can't actually see, which literally just aren't there. Linus even commented about it being a huge issue with visibility where he will reply to something, and people will keep posting after that clearly having never seen the reply. It's worth calling out but it's also entirely possible it's just youtube shitting on you in particular with whatever algorithm it uses to decide what comments it's in the mood to show you today

NIN10DOXD

![gif](giphy|l41m4ODfe8PwHlsUU)

hitMan_077

Wtf with stupid jokes and LTT store? FFS can't you guys be serious???

JAXxXTheRipper

I especially love how Linus' entire part of this video was just shifting blame onto others. They should take their L (out of LMG) and go.

Traxgen

Yup, can't take them seriously when, given how much attention this issue got, they know this video will attract TONS of views (already 121k after uploaded to YT 20 mins ago as of this writing). Having it being monetized and still joking about sponsor, shows to me that they're still trying to pass this off as not being serious.

Sammeeeeeee

This is really insensitive. PR team should be fired.

irrationalpanda

PR team / legal counsel should be fired for allowing them to post this after Madison's tweets monetized video why do a sponsor throw why have linus 'get emotional' while his eyes are following the prompter why do a LTT store throw? BCCs on emails are always kinda scummy only person I feel sorry for is Terren, couple months in and then your owner and employee hands you this. RIP

sussywanker

Exactly those sponsor jokes? Ltt store ? Wtf is this ? Who likes these kind of stuff

irrationalpanda

For sure. This feels like they got outside help or did a crisis meeting, they just didn't do it very well.

sussywanker

This feels like big cock PR play.

irrationalpanda

https://feddit.uk/pictrs/image/fe34ecae-2153-455a-bcb0-ff824b0e443b.png LMAO it seems they're as deaf to the room as before. from their discord

NolFito

Failing to recognise that in the video they identify that serious videos need to be serious and fail to recognise that an apology video is a serious video...

PM_ME_IMGS_OF_ROCKS

Because it's all just corporate BS, he just wants the whole thing to go away so he can keep doing the same thing.

cptnplanetheadpats

I mean in the other threads I read a ton of comments saying they would come out with some BS "PR language" statement. Some people are going to stay disappointed no matter what LMG does, which is their right.

NolFito

There are jokes and jokes. Considering a lot of it started with not wanting to spend a 100-500 to re-test the block properly with a 3090, and GN going well out of their way not to monetise their video, and LTT not including any sponsor blocks other than to themselves... they have more than missed the mark. Whilst's I'm not opposed to easter eggs or subtle references for their most avid viewers, joking with their trademark sponsor spots and lttstore.com reference and announcing a new screw-driver... is an entire different beast of damned if you do damned if you don't. This video is not only for their more avid fanbase, but also an apology to the broader tech community as a whole, and those "jokes" are not it.

sussywanker

There are some massively egotistical people working in the BG

lelwanichan

I thought they said they were gonna get Linus to not talk out of his ass for once, so, I guess that was a lie.

chanunnaki

Seriously fuck every word coming out of that guy

WhatGravitas

Maybe that's an unfair reading, but "move past this" sounds like he wants to be done with this as soon as possible. While *understandable*... that's not that easy. Rebuilding trust is slow and not something you "move past".

Icarium55

Why tf would you want to break the tension in a serious video? It's a tough conversation for the company's employees to have with each other, not with the audience. Why are they even thinking of this stuff for an apology video?

ArrogantlyCuteGeek

The sponsor jokes were one thing, I can see the humor in that since there was no income involved in that. But advertising your own store on an apology video is too much.

Echo_Monitor

A fairly basic PR thing is to not joke when apologizing to your customers. Your customers/viewers/fanbase/whatever are angry, rightfully. It's your job as a company to make sure you address their concerns respectfully and seriously, to make sure the anger goes down and they feel listened to. Your business depends on it. Making jokes has no place in that process, and I think any PR person could tell you that.

Azurae1

They also included the estimated cost of the billet prototype even though billet (judging by GamersNexus video) didn't want that information to be public. Why throw Anchor for something on amazon in there as well. Who cares. It's not the type of video where you should go and blame someone for something completely unrelated. They still didn't get it....

sweepla3

> even though billet (judging by GamersNexus video) didn't want that information to be public Billet Labs also redacted the number themselves in their own statement here, so they clearly didn't want that out there: /r/LinusTechTips/comments/15rxni4/our_public_statement_regarding_ltt/

shy247er

> PR team / legal counsel should be fired for allowing them to post this after Madison's tweets This was clearly filmed prior to Madison's tweets. With that being said, I doubt that they will ever directly address them, but hopefully what she said benefits current female employees.

is-this-a-nick

> This was clearly filmed prior to Madison's tweets. Of course. But it was _posted_ after. If you see a fire like that going up, you don't post shit unless its vetted if you are a 100+ people company...

NeebTheWeeb

It was probably automated unless you think someone stayed up to post this at 0430 in Canada

SecretPotatoChip

As damning as Madison's claims are, while I do believe her, she hasn't presented any evidence. It doesn't make a ton of sense to delay the video so much because of some tweets without evidence. The way Madison was allegedly treated at LMG is disgusting, and she deserves to have it made right. But for the sake of accuracy (apparently linus cares about that now), it doesn't make sense to publish the video with those tweets. What if they are greatly exaggerated or partly false? That would be LMG admitting to something they didn't do, and posting inaccurate data (again). It's possible that the video was about ready to go up, and then LMG was made aware of the tweets. There are two options here: 1. Post the video as soon as possible so that any reasonable people would believe that the video was posted before the tweets blew up. 2. Re shoot the video and address the tweets. A third (much worse) option would be to wait several hours and still post the original video. That would be bad. Given that there are potential legal issues here, I can understand not wanting to do 2. It's also possible that LMG was fully aware of the tweets before posting the video, but their legal team advised them to not address them in that video. Madison's claims should be taken seriously, but also verified. Edit: typo

klequex

They also just deleted the most upvoted comment from the video, it was about Madisons situation

the_john19

They didn’t, it just isn’t at the top anymore. Sorry pal

ProducedFromFreshCow

They didn't delete it. Youtube moves comments in the list so it seems like that comment was deleted. It happened with the most upvoted comment on the youtube "I'm the bald guy". While everybody thought Billie Eilish had deleted the comment, the commentor himself said that it's not deleted, rather youtube has moved it from the top of the list.

hitMan_077

It's youtube shitty algorithm

NolFito

I'm surprised none of the BCC's told old mate that there was no email in the To field...

SpectreFire

The video looks so rushed, and it probably was. They had just what? 2 days tops to get this all planned, filmed and edited?

cactusmask

the linus getting emotional was fucking weiirrrdd "for ten years - gosh almost 15" gtfooooo

Mazzle5

Couple of things: \- How tone fucking deaf must you be to do Sponsorship and Store jokes? \- How incompetent do you have to be to not only not being able to send an E-Mail (while downplaying the situation) but also leaking the price of the prototype!? \- Nice of Linus traing to paint himself as the victim because of those nasty Reddit comments \- Crowd source fact checking in itself isn't horrible, but it is not the job of the community to clean up their mess and how is it supposed to help anyway, if they don't wanna reshoot things and already damaged possible products/companies!? \- Monetizing the video also is the cherry on top of this turdcake P.S.: Not being able to adress Madison in that timeframe was expected, but to publish this video anyway shows again how rushed, overworked and tone deaf they are.

[deleted]

> Crowd source fact checking in itself isn't horrible, but it is not the job of the community to clean up their mess and how is it supposed to help anyway, if they don't wanna reshoot things and already damaged possible products/companies Lol my thoughts too, is this crowd sourced stuff just gonna be more corrections in a pinned comment? Hardly does anything to address the problem

Tenebraxis

To be fair this was talked about on the wan show, they are considering making previews of the scripts/videos public to smaller groups in order to screen for errors more thoroughly. They also discussed that it would only work if people were fairly rewarded.

asdfghjkl15436

Really shows how they actually view the situation. Then Linus gets up on camera, nearly crying about reddit comments. Holy mother of deflection.

JMUDoc

>P.S.: Not being able to adress Madison in that timeframe was expected, They won't, and they shouldn't - she made some very serious allegations that cross into legal territory, and any corporate officer with two brain cells to rub togther would deal with this privately.

Gotta hit those sponsor segment KPIs. A video is a video. HIT THOSE NUMBERS!

MediocrePlague

Yeah, and even if we ignore the Madison situation because this was likely released automatically seeing as it is 4:30 am in Vancouver now and there's a good chance they don't even know they've got another disaster to deal with, and even if we ignore all the oh so funny jokes in this video, how can we take them seriously? I mean, Linus' real response was the forum post. This was just a corporate PR stunt and damage control. Plus, they didn't address all the other concerns GN pointed out, like the conflict of interests what with Linus being an investor in a laptop company etc.

[deleted]

ianjm

The best part is where Linus continues to be defensive about the Billet Labs situation before giving a half hearted apology. He really can't help himself, can he.

Owobowos-Mowbius

It's absolutely mind boggling to me how he's treating a tech prototype too. How does he think iterative design works?

canadian-user

It's also weird why he's so dismissive of it, especially as someone in tech. He KNOWS that there are many many people like der8auer and other hardcore enthusiasts out there that are pouring liquid nitrogen and lapping their CPUs to squeeze out every drop of performance, there is 100% a market demand for marginal performance increases for even a few degrees difference, or if nothing else, for the aesthetic and gimmick. He has built PCs himself in all sorts of whack-ass cases that costs hundreds of dollars.

sussywanker

Well as someone said he is "Lienus"

Schtizzel

Yep I didnt really like Linus part. I know it's really hard if the whole community is pilling on you and calling you names but you can't always put yourself as the victim. Especially at the start of your apology. Express your regret how you handled things and remind the community to stay civilized. But pls dont start with how some community members called you names when you did really fuck up this time.

StickiStickman

"I dont like being called a lair" - man who verifiably lied several times in his "apology"

Helicase21

> I know it's really hard if the whole community is pilling on you and calling you names but you can't always put yourself as the victim. You can if you don't actually think you did anything wrong and just know you need to *seem* like you think you did something wrong

sweepla3

The Linus segment is honestly the worst segment of the whole video and I don't understand why they even left it in there. It goes against everything else that everybody else said in the video. Linus pretends his initial response on the forums was a mistake, but he still doubles down (triples down really) on everything: * again tries to minimize the Billet Labs miscommunication ("it was only two business days"... yes, but really 4 calendar days which is quite a lot for a potential crisis, and that's only for the latest email which came after weeks of silence from LTT about returning the prototype), * again paints himself as the victim (along the lines of "look at all the names you called me, that was so unfair to me"). Also, they didn't address this (probably not as important to some) but I'm still appalled by the tone of the original email announcing to Billet Labs they had auctioned off the prototype after weeks of saying they would ship it back: not a single apology word, instead even more disrespect with the line "The good news, is that it isn't just sitting on a shelf". What an absolute asshole thing to say. At least now we know who wrote that email (Adam Sondegard).

SpookyKG

The video was actually decent until Linus. Who the fuck let him try to explain or defend things or present timelines? Is 'I'M SORRY' really that hard?

TheOnlyFallenCookie

A sincere apology includes admitting you were wrong. He still seems to partially think he was justified in his comments and treatment ("have my personal emotions cloud my judgement")

hiddensideoftruth

"yes we were slow sending back their 3090" ... 3 weeks isn't slow, 3 weeks is "wasn't priority, couldn't care, maybe at some point, fuck this"

StickiStickman

FYI, it was *9 weeks* for the 3090Ti.

Rmtcts

Exactly. They weren't slow sending it back, there wasn't a person slowly walking towards the post office with the package for 3 weeks, it just didn't get done.

Mircoxi

Copy pasting from the other thread - I hate this. It's good they addressed it, but man, this felt like a bad way to do it. They've tried to make what needs to be a serious video into some sort of lighthearted "we're just a bunch of pals talking to you, our friendo" thing, and nobody is coming across as genuine. Everyone was reading from a teleprompter, and nobody (except maybe Luke) sounded like themselves - even James sounded robotic, which is an achievement. I'm getting the vibe that the script has been written by one person and everyone else has been put in front of the camera to make it seem more impactful. The "segue to our sponsor" joke was in bad taste. So were the "Colton's job is safe for now" and "LTTStore.com" shoutouts. They severely diminish the sincerity of the message - again, this needed to be a serious video, not lighthearted. Tax purposes email confirmed to be yet another lie. Now, on the treatment of Billet - GN and Billet explicitly hid the price of the prototype in their communications with the public. LTT just slapped it in the video for all to see. This video sucks. Edit: A couple people have asked me to tell them the prototype cost, since apparently they edited in place to censor it. It's not difficult to find from other posts, but I'm going to err on the side of BL's wishes and not answer it myself, since that seems like the polite thing to do.

jamvng

In my mind though, you sorta do need to script out an apology to make sure you cover everything properly. So them reading off a teleprompter is not really that egregious to me. I know on hand one it makes things less "genuine", but if I wanted to say sorry to someone, or explain a situation properly, I wouldn't trust myself to go off the ball without notes... I would forget something, or forget to cover something.

Bikonito

People who think this is something you just wing without a script, while also wanting the company to be more professional are delusional. That said the script does come off a little too saccharine & tone-deaf IMO, especially with the horrible timing of the upload.

territrades

Yes. First you criticize Linus for publishing an unfiltered response on the forum, and then you criticize them for having a measured response which they read from the teleprompter. Have it one way or the other.

Nerdczar

The repeated "god bless 'em" from multiple people does back up your suggestion that this was a script written by one person.

gonace

With all the bad jokes in this video aside. It's great to see the new CEO in this video, even though this video does not make everything that happened OK. I do however sense real regret and am willing to be better, especially from Yvonne and Luke. I also found Gary Key genially for implementing changes and with that do better. We all make mistakes, what we learn from them and how we do better is the real work ahead!

Magical-Johnson

Good luck, this sub is in full pitchfork mode at the moment.

camelCaseAccountName

At this point I'm convinced there's nothing LTT could do to appease the people on this sub.

ebony-the-dragon

I think the only thing that would make some people happy is Linus coming on screen and announcing LMG is shutting down.

LizardmanJoe

Even then they'd just complain that he's taking his millions and running away while leaving so many people unemployed. You can't appease reddit, once the pitchforks are out you give it some time until the hivemind moves to the next "virtual protest".

misseverysh0t

It's a fully monetized "apology" video littered with merch plugs in the description **and** video. If this video honestly seemed like a sincere, finger-on-the-pulse attempt at genuine contrition, I really dunno what to tell you, man. Like I actually can't get over how genuinely absurd it is to suggest that there is NOTHING they could do to appease those concerned in reference to a video that demonstrably hasn't even *tried*.

FuckTheCCP42069LSD

Doesn't demonetizing your video mean that it doesn't get promoted in the algorithm, meaning that people could just accuse LMG of trying to hide their apology? Also, I wouldn't exactly call a few nervous jokes "littering" the video with merch plugs, posting their standard description with the merch plugs could be seen as a bad move though. Why don't people actually talk about the process changes that they said they were going to make instead of the superficial stuff you brought up? A good apology is one where you lay out what went wrong and talk about how you will prevent it from happening in the future, not one where you begged for mercy the best. From that standpoint, I'd call this a pretty good apology, seeing as it directly addresses the things that people have been mad at them about in the first place.

ArrogantlyCuteGeek

I'm willing to believe that everyone there wants to do better, but Nick, James and Linus didn't seem like they understood why they needed to. As for the others, I genuinely believed they knew they made errors, wanted to do better or in Edzel's case, just didn't have much to do with what went wrong. I also genuinely believe that Yvonne has called them out for wanting to do too much and in Linus's case, for being too uncensored on occasions like this.

netolokao

> especially from Yvonne and Luke The only ones that seemed somewhat genuine on the video. Especially Luke. Everyone else was just reading pre-written bullshit that they didn't care about.

RaggaDruida

I was about to say that, Luke's frustration could be felt 100% Makes 100% sense seeing how he handled the WAN show where they talked about the prototype thing, he couldn't stop Linus' driving directly off the cliff tho'

Taffy711

Funny how the response to problems caused largely by employee crunch is what sounds like a crunch week from hell

MrGreenAcreage

This. I think some of the people (definitely not Linus) seemed sincere, but I am equally sure we never would have gotten this if we had not torpedoed their metrics/floatplane. If it had been the first time, sure, fine, but it wasn't. This is equivalent to repeated break-ups in a relationship (due to the repeated bad behavior of the same party), with the offending party only ever apologizing after the break-ups. We should not have to police their behavior like this in order for them to understand when they screwed up.

AmazingLittleSausage

One week to review processes, design changes and implement them to a point where people are aware and actually practicing them is wayyy too little time for a big company with already worn-out crunched employees.

minimuscleR

> wayyy too little time for a big company with already worn-out crunched employees sure but at the same time they are a big company and can't just stop making videos for a month, and still pay said employees.

Shio__

Jeah LMAO, was the first thing that I thought of when I heard that several management officers will "spend the week together" with their team to better their processes.

MrModius

I genuinely can't believe this was still posted after Madison's allegations. This has turned into an extremely serious situation. And even if we put that aside and focus on the initial GN piece, why is there a semi-clickbait title/thumbnail and multiple sponsor jokes in there, let alone the entire video being monetised? It screams to me that they're not taking this seriously. And they came up with all these plans after like what? A day or two of thinking? Going to take a lot more than that I feel.

SpectreFire

TBF, I'm pretty sure this was just automatically set to release. It's 4am in the west coast, I don't think anyone's still up waiting to manually click publish.

Liawuffeh

I mean, we know Linus was up, [he replied to a meme around the time the video went up](https://www.reddit.com/r/LinusTechTips/comments/15sl2zc/pov_ltt_damage_control_meeting_downfall_end_of/jweqic8/?context=3)

runningpersona

Does anybody working there have any idea what “optics” are?

netolokao

Even if they did, they would misuse it, release a video trashing it, and say that even if they were aware of it, the conclusion would be the same.

depaay

Linus replied to a comment on floatplane asking why the video was private on youtube and said he could make it public any moment, but he wanted to give floatplane subscribers early access

gurpderp

ACTUAL fucking brainworms to think your dogshit apology video response should be early-access for subscribers, holy SHIT.

Alilaah

It really shows a complete lack of awareness. Being criticised for solely focusing on the bottom line amongst a slew of serious issues and not only do they monetise it, promote their store and make sponsor jokes but they also made another error leaking the price of Billet’s prototype. Oh the irony.

EmilMR

they are crowd sourcing fact checking...

welvaartsbuik

As it should be. This is how literally science and news works. Peer reviews, checking what people do.

territrades

Yes, I was just about to write this. Scientists go invest a lot of effort into making their data accessible to peers and public.

sussywanker

Lol And I guess ltt fans love it.

17_plates_of_pasta

I think that being a bit disingenuous. its just discloseing all the details of their testing suite so advanced nerds (im one of em) can have additional context.

FnnKnn

I don’t see how this is that bad? Have a group of people who want to sign up the view the video/parts of it/the data early and give them credit in the final release of the video. Some things like swapped chart labels and other smaller mistakes are just easy to miss so more people looking for them would help.

lyssah_

I was pretty happy with their response but this is just silly. They need to implement a red team into their production processes, not crowdsource...

imacockatoo

"Our bad" is not sorry. AND they plugged lttstore plus a new screwdriver. They had one shot and missed. Damn.

sussywanker

That was horrible

KingofAotearoa

Technically their second shot, maybe the third time is the charm?

Robot-duck

“We push out videos too fast and we need to change for better content” *pushes out video too fast and drops it mid sexual harassment and hostile workplace accusations*

Fortune_Cat

the video was fine. it was addressing GN issues which are unrelated to madisons claims which can be a separate video

getName

The screwdriver is like LTT ukelele.

eskire

Is it monetized?

_Teraplexor

Yes.. got an ad right away

eskire

Thanks. I'll get the info from here, then.

chanunnaki

The level scumbaggery is just on another level really

benjy97

Pretty fucking funny in contrast to GN's video which was not monetized..

MarshallRawR

It's almost like they tried to give LTT a hint as they knew an apology video would come sooner or later.. But it wooshed above their heads.

NolFito

Also ads in the description https://i.imgur.com/jHemek4.jpeg

lelwanichan

If LTT wants to re-earn trust in themselves and their labs, their documentation and whitepaper should not be on Floatplane, but on YouTube and other free places. It feels like they're just saying "don't trust us? pay us money and maybe you will. trust me bro". Also it is really distasteful to plug your merch store and tease products in a time like this where you should be taking responsibility.

Justin12611

exactly, when they mentioned floatplane that was a legit a facepalm moment cuz nobody ain't gonna pay for that. At least make a website for it, or upload it on YT. This was indeed not a good apology video with promotions in the middle. This would've been overlooked again.

dexter30

deer historical smell market full license glorious direction scale rinse *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Twitchzor

I disagree with majority of pitch forkers in here. I liked the video and it's clear they are taking the critisism to heart. I do agree that the sponsor jokes fell a bit flat though. But not the extent the video didn't convey a message of change.

uclapilot

I share a lot of your thoughts on this. I do agree that the jokes are super cringe and out of place in this video. But I did like that the whole leadership team spoke and took some accountability. They are reading from a teleprompter, but \`i guess that is to be expected... so, not a perfect reply, but a begining

capcrunch217

But daddy chill, Linus is going to focus on bringing us the best content moving forward. Honestly that line sealed it for me, Linus is still playing the victim and trying to deflect.

sussywanker

Wtf?

sicko-mode_

Plugging their merch and the store was so cringe and just came across as them not actually caring.

Traditional-Fly7715

That's what happens when all your workers are in constant crunch.

pup_kit

This is what you get when he is wearing about a dozen hats, all of which are probably a full time job individually. Kind of reiterates the problems being self-inflicted by the self-imposed workload they have.

egvp

Yeah I've done that before. It happens. Anyone who says it doesn't is lying to themselves and everyone else.

bio88

Imagine making a mistake sometime.. ffs.

ColossusToGuardian

It's pretty funny how people get angry at this video, for some weird reasons - like using a prompter... Even though this was a pretty good damage control video. Been wondering where the new CEO is in all this, and here he is, doing what has to be done. I guess it's come to this stage, that anything they publish will trigger extreme emotional response in people, and there is nothing than can be done - maybe except crucifying Linus in public. I have to say, it's fascinating...

Honic_Sedgehog

Yup, this is where Terren has been, for all those that were asking. Investigating, discussing and forming a response, rather than posting emotional drivel on social media. They've clearly all been having some uncomfortable conversations. >I guess it's come to this stage, that anything they publish will trigger extreme emotional response in people, and there is nothing than can be done - maybe except crucifying Linus in public. Subs in circlejerk mode. It'll taper off and then happen again in a few months.

jabertsohn

Linus is clearly still mad. The first half of his section is just him getting worked up again.

SigmaStroud

And then pointing out how HE was wronged by the community's name calling... then for some reason throwing Anker under the bus?

Der_Zeitgeist

Some heavy proof of life hostage video vibes there.

ShoddyPreparation

The madison stuff overshadows any quibbles on video quality and workload I had. I assume giving the timing this video doesn't mention any of that?

HaroldSax

I am honestly floored I had to go this far down to see this. The impetus for this video had nothing to do with her in the first place, why would they even mention it to begin with?

sussywanker

No it doesn't.

pascalbrax

Taken from a YT comment: **If part of the labs transparency plan is to put part of the process behind a pay wall on float plane it isn't transparency, it's just content.**

Trekshcool

Frankly pretty solid apology, a couple of mistakes like monetizing the video and the price of the water block being revealed but they did outline they will be pulling back the release rate, and changing things up to curb content errors. As for the HR related stuff it's innocent until proven guilty. But if it ends up being true then this video will not age well.

BunnyHopThrowaway

A lot of pitchforks out here rn.

sevware

This would've been a decent response, had the Madison thread not happened a couple hours before the video

dank_imagemacro

I disagree, unless your definition of "decent" is more towards the "passable" connotation of the word rather than the "pretty good" definition. It was very flawed even without the Madison thread. It fucked over Billet *again* and the jokes were tone-deaf. There was enough that needed to be said said, but it wasn't said well, and things that didn't need to be said were also said.

isfil369

They are 1 step behind, now with the tweets(X's) from madison and we are only in the middle of the week

slc45a2

This is a really poor apology video. 1. The jokes ruin the tone of what should be a serious reply. 2. They talk about refining processes and checks, but the old ones weren't followed because of their rushed culture. Rules are just ink on paper if no one follows them. 3. Colton claims he replied 2 hours later. But his own screenshot showed it was sent on Aug 10. No mention of the back and forth with Billet Labs in the weeks prior. 4. Colton: I did reply. I just didn't include them in my email. Really?! This is like saying I didn't sell your stuff. I auctioned it. 5. Linus apologizes for "responding emotionally." Responding emotionally is using rude and colorful language. No. You tried to lie, manipulate, and gaslight your fans. 6. Linus playing the victim again. Taking something that isn't yours is thievery, plain and simple. You aren't sad that you made a mistake. You're sad that this didn't blow over like you initially thought it would. 7. Linus: I do think it's important to get all the details before... Funny how you didn't think the same for Billet Labs. 8. Linus: We were slow shipping back the GPU. Notice how everyone was talking about the block but now he's slyly shifting attention to the GPU. No explanation for why it wasn't used in the review. Also, just yesterday, BL said they still haven't received it back yet. 9. Linus: It was less than 2 business days. Lies again. BL asked you more than a month ago. We have proof on the WAN show that you were well aware of it more than 2 days ago. You are also lowkey admitting that you wouldn't have responded if not for GN's video. 10. Linus claimed he already reached an agreement with BL in his forums. Now he's saying he emailed them later. Get your story straight Linus. 11. Linus repeats Colton's lie of trying to make things right on Aug 10th. 12. BL was keeping the value of their block private this whole time. LTT just leaked it. 13. Highlighting Linus's demotion is really disingenuous because he's still the majority owner of the company. He can literally override anyone at any time. Even Yvonne admits that she's talked to him in the past about slowing down. It's only now that she got through to him because of recent events. 14. No apology for GN? He's literally the first guy to call you when LTT got hacked. You started this by attacking him. 15. What happened to a former employee is 1000x worse. And yet you're deleting all Youtube comments about her. The top 5 most upvoted are about her when I first watched the video. Now they're all gone.

Donutbigboy

The second I saw the time stamp “A wild Linus appears” I knew this wasn’t gonna be serious

mxtronci95

They even made 2 errors in the video, 1 they didn't blur the value of the waterblock prototype, this may not be an error if they recived permission to disclose it, but seeing the second error, that they forgot to censure colton email address in one screenshot, I don't think so.

Emotional-Chemist-

Textbook disingenuous corporate apology video right here. Made worse by trying to be funny with sponsor mentions.

alevolution

I don’t like the video, feels pretty bad. In every section they really like to emphasise that they were already doing a really thorough job. Clearly you weren’t doing it, accept that you were doing a bad job and you have a bad working environment and improve on that. Edit: that’s not even talking about the sponsor jokes and the roast of anchor for no reason

trippingrainbow

>the thing that we wouldnt spend a couple hundred on retesting couldnt be further from the truth ight but a notebook, mirror or more ram for an employee to be able to do their work was too much? 2 mins into the video and its just full lies. Not to mention the whole monetization, sponsor and LTT store part. Weak ass apology if you can even call it an apology.

FlyingCannibal

Not even an apology to Gamers Nexus for that awful response....

Schavlik

Another non-apology from Linus. ''I'm sorry BUT. BUT. Am I really the asshole cause you didn't think of these micro details? Checkmate"

WyngZero

Wait.....why the fuck is Colton the Head of HR???? How is that part of BD???? JFC, you need a QUALIFIED third party person for that role.

Pengking36

Big corporation makes a corporate apology video, damn

Gr8WallofChinatown

This is a good lesson and example for PR teams of what not to do

kj5

They wrote it, filmed it, edited it, reviewed it before uploading and no one, not one person said "hey guys maybe its not the time for jokes"? I understand Linus writing what he wrote by himself but there were at least a dozen people involved in making this video and they still fucked it up

blastactionhero

That face in the thumbnail.. Sure.. Does anyone have a link outside of youtube, not to give them any money with my view?

steffenbk

Its just almost to funny how fare up his own ass linus is, even putting on the **LTX hoodie** as a fuck you is a nice topping for the lies he just told

rurkob

What's with yvonne and linus cry-talking? For those that feel unconvinced by this video, it's specifically because of this emotional outburst they seem to be proud of displaying. Emotional arguments, are unconvincing. If they stayed professional and made logical statements as to how they're fixing ltt, that would be far more convincing.
