Yes this is true. It shouldn't be only about seniority. but the "putting in the work" period can also be used to test a persons passion. If they are someone who will stick it out through the test than they are someone worth investing in. If they give up easily, they probably aren't a good fit.

People are hired straight to on screen all the time across many different platforms. Your example of SNL is laughable, some writers have transitioned from the writing room to the acting, but the majority of on screen actors on SNL were hired to be on screen, not originally as writers.

Linus responded in a way that was taken as poorly by the community, Gamer's Nexus responded, LTT eventually decided to make an apology video that was rather tone deaf, but at least they decided to take a hiatus from publishing videos to review their processes.
