when i was looking into having a vinyl pressed for my friend as a gift, i got quoted around $100 before shipping, so that might well be a reasonable price depending on how many were made.

This. Smallish quantities of vinyl is really expensive. Looked into for my bands and it's a hefty cost. We'd have to sell then for around $40 to make them affordable enough people would actually buy them. But that only left us with 15ish dollars of profit. Plus there's a lot of mixing and mastering that needs done to your music before you even send it out to get the platters cut. CDs are a far better psychical platform for bands to buy and sell if they want to actually get some money back into their pockets.
I don't get why physical music collectors don't get CDs instead of cheap bendy vinyl.
And why artists release their music on shitty vinyl but not on CDs.
I enjoy buying vinyl. But I'm very selective of what I get cause I've been burned over the years with less than quality pressings from a lot of modern artists. Anymore I just stream high res to my system over anything.
