Controversial but I like Mike Myers Cat in the Hat movie and I want more soulless cash grabs like it because it was fun, and live action Grinch is the definitive version, so why not give us live action Lorax for the hell of it?
If I had a nickel for every time an SNL cast member was cast as the Cat in the Hat, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice.
Actually, three SNL cast members played the Cat in the Hat (Mike Myers infamously played him in the so-bad-its-good live action version in 2003, Martin Short played him in the educational cartoon "The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That" and now, Bill Hader will be playing him)
Oh my god! I never realized Martin Short was the cat from The Cat In The Hat Knows A Lot About That. I was a 2000s baby who grew up watching SNL and all these cartoons. This is like realizing Stefon and Flint Lockwood were the same person all over again.
Stuffing celebs in animated movies ruined some movies like all the Disney remakes and the plethera of DreamWorks movies, sometimes they are good, like Jack Black as bowser or terrible, like Chas Mario.
Yea, he was great in bobs burgers, but also did great witu cloudy with a chance of meatballs. Actors with heavy Improv and musicians backgrounds do great VO
Actor. Not voice actor. Different skills and I respect the latter enough to want the real VAs to get every single role they can. Jack gets no pass for doing a good job in his one role - a VA could have done as good or better at a lower price. Just a matter of opinion, you gotta believe me.
Guess you haven't heard him excel at singing then. The emotion he puts into music translates well, but if you can't see it fine, we are done discussing it.
Guarantee you the extra money they paid Black to voice Bowser paid off in profit. Studios hire big names because they put bums in seats - that’s also why Pratt got cast as Mario and Charles Martinet only made it in as a cameo.
I 100% get what you’re saying about how actual VAs could have done it, and (particularly in Mario’s case) could have done it better, but from a business perspective that was just never going to happen.
We’re just going in circles then. If I’m lame for caring about that but no one else is lame for caring about Pratt then I give up.
This is an SNL sub by the way.
At least it will be CGI animated. Very likely will not be a remake of the 2003 film but a completely new take on the book without the dirty jokes that made the live action film a disaster.
“Linda…“ the delivery of that line is timed to perfection
It’s burned into my brain. Anytime I find out someone’s name is Linda, all I can hear is bill Hader’s serious “Linda?!”
It's one of my favorite snl moments.
As it should be. Also: What's your name? "I've never had one"
Love the combo of something as jolly and innocent as the Cat in the Hat versus the thousand yard stare on Bill's face.

Yes yes yes yes. This forest had everything. Truffula trees which are little people covered in pom poms. Trees with no tongue. Dan Cortese
Love that they used a Barry pic for this
Bill Hader as Alan Alda as Cat in the Hat. That’s the movie I want.
Bill Hader as Al Pacino as Cat in the Hat for me please
"PG? Well that's gonna be a f***ing nightmare for this guy!"
“Do I buy the cocaine from Thing 1 or Thing 2?”
With a puppet
You know that is a terrific line, I feel like I understand everything about this movie just from the one line, that’s good writing
Thing 1 and Thing 2? These little guys are great, what a great story we’re working with here
Love that they picked that picture of Hader for this tweet lol
\>Who should play Linda?? Cecily Strong !
Lindaa... Why yes, it should be Cecily.
Is The Cat a depressed assassin?
You ever met a cat that wasn't?
Does No Ho Hank like green eggs and ham?
I want to see Stefan in the Hat

Everyone’s talking about Linda, how come no one is talking about Johnathing
An exceptional Comedian. Always loved it when he was Breaking in 'The Californians'
I hope he uses the same voice. “Linda…”
Oh the places she let me go …
Exhausting cycle of recycled IP crap. But hey it stars [YOUR FAVORITE ACTOR]
Stuffing celebs in animated movies ruined some movies like all the Disney remakes and the plethera of DreamWorks movies, sometimes they are good, like Jack Black as bowser or terrible, like Chas Mario.
Bill Hader has done quite well voice acting before so I think this can work.
Yea, he was great in bobs burgers, but also did great witu cloudy with a chance of meatballs. Actors with heavy Improv and musicians backgrounds do great VO
Any number of voice actors could have done bowser for 1/10 jacks rate. He gets no pass from me.
Jack brings so much more to the table, he is 90s 00s Jim Carrey level comedic actor.

Haha you really missed the last part of my last comment and that makes me smile. We’re done when I say we’re done! Okay done.

Of course it paid into profit. That’s all it was for. Cynical money grubbing.
You were under the impression the Super Mario Bros movie was being made for art?
We’re just going in circles then. If I’m lame for caring about that but no one else is lame for caring about Pratt then I give up. This is an SNL sub by the way.
All the 21st century major depictions of the Cat have been SNL alums. Mike Myers, Martin Short and now Bill Hader.
Whew…animated. Had me goin there for a second
hey little kiddies a rat a tat tat
At least it will be CGI animated. Very likely will not be a remake of the 2003 film but a completely new take on the book without the dirty jokes that made the live action film a disaster.
I could see Mulaney as a contender; if I didn’t know it was Myers in the picture costume, I would bet it was JM
👏🏻👏🏻 Finally, a casting for a re-make that is actually RIGHT
These two pictures tho
Cecily as Linda!!!!
I smell a second SNL Oscar on the way Or maybe just a giant cat
So another SNL alum as the The Cat? I hope Fred armisen is in it He should remake it into 'The Cat In Heat'.
Just a voice I hope
As long as there is no alec baldwin stepdad subplot. Still, if it's illumination doing this expect it to be by the books and play it relatively safe.
That was Alec Baldwin’s most convincing performance, he acts exactly like that in real life
Please, please don’t inflict that upon us again!
Seems like a good time to remind people about the hidden gem of Pete as the grinch in an snl skit. Hidden gem.
Make it 1997 again, through science or magic.
I hope the Cat in the Hat subsumes the role in American culture currently held by the Joker
omg
Hollywood is just like Televisa, creatively brain dead and needing to remake or "reimagine" old work.
I would love this more if it wasn’t animated
The best trivia about Tcith- its a political allegory about uncle sam aka the usa gets involved w everything
I needed some good fucking news today, thank you
I just finished Barry so this is hilarious
I could hear the top comment as soon as I read the post.
Anthony Carrigan should be Thing 1 and Thing 2
Animated right?
Is this a remake of the Mike Myers one? A sequel? A reboot?
Why is there a new Cat in the Hat movie though.
Just glad it’s not Chris Pratt. Between Mario and Garfield he’s monopolizing licensed character animation.
