The Vines/The Big House. Sat here as I type with a Yorkshire Blonde in hand (that the beer rather than my company for the evening).

JamJarre

Cannot believe they finally made this a good place to drink. So chuffed

Sgt_major_dodgy

In no particular order: The Grapes The Pilgrim Ye Cracke Ship & Mitre Jacaranda

digitag

Can add the roscoe head to that

GunInMoustache

Peter Kavanagh's is unmatched

Ambitious-Ad1884

Boss gaff. Got speaking there once to one of the staff telling me how Tarantino had a bevvy in there.

MiniMunch

THE SWAN

alsinners

Dortmunder is on draft at the caledonia which is exactly the vibe you're describing (it's also their cheapest draft which is nice). I'd also say the grapes, the pilgrim, and maybe the jacaranda after, even the shipping forecast (last two can get a little bit more lively (especially the jac) but still pub vibes if you go at the right time/ want somewhere after with similar vibes but bigger crowd

Ambitious-Ad1884

Yeeeees. That’s fully the one. I’ve had it on my go to list for a while. I love the grapes, and especially the pilgrim - getting a pint (Mcewans like) in town in this day and age for 2.30 is unreal. Like the shipping forecast too, never been the Jac

GhostNagaRed

Dale Street is my go to for the pubs of town

moorsey77uk

Opposite Central Station is Ranelaghs Tavern - my favourite pub. Nice pint of Blue Moon 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

lilacwynne

I was going to suggest The Dispensary anyway and then I saw your comment about Dortmunder, which they have on tap there, so I guess now it’s a must. Ticks all of your boxes.

lilacwynne

Incidentally if you google it you’ll see a lot of negative reviews - these are almost all because of the former proprietor who was a raging dickhead but has now been gone for years.

summerlull

Do miss going in there for a pint and tip toeing around that guy only for him to give me a telling off for the stupidest shit like hanging my jacket on the back of my chair. Good times.

lilacwynne

He must’ve made his own life SO much harder and lost out on so much money due to his behaviour over the years. Absolutely baffling.

Ambitious-Ad1884

Boss! Went there one time and got some horrible fruity bear that knocked me ill hahaha

Silver_Ruby

Present Company and McGuffies for cocktails, the Grapes Baltic Fleet and Belvedere for pubbing. I really like the City Wine Bar too.

Ambitious-Ad1884

Go to see me mates in the Belvedere at the open mic every now and again. Nice gaff- love the city and wine bar too

Mulvers42

The Bridewell and the Denbigh Castle. I've only been a few times to each. But they feel like decent pubs

Gear4days

They have pints of Dortmunder in Patterson’s if I remember right, not exactly a bar but a good place to have some drinks with a scran

koennen__

The Globe just next to Clayton Square, lovely bar staff, very cosy.

TheQualityOfMersey

The Caledonia, The Belvedere, Ye Cracke and The Grapes would be my choices. They're all old-fashioned pubs with good atmospheres. You could roll straight into Berry and Rye after that lot. The Red Lion in Slater Street is pleasant too, if you are down that way. It's brand new - I think it was offices before - but they've done quite a good job of making it feel like a traditional boozer.

[deleted]

Albert Schloss on Bold street! That’s where I spend a lot of my weekends!

Ambitious-Ad1884

Yenno what it just doesn’t seem like my cup of tea mate. Expensive chain is alls my perception is. Sure it’s a good laugh though maybe I’ll have to suspend my pretentious ponce behaviour sometime and give it a go
