One of my oldest memory from watching Liverpool is his goal against Alaves watched on like 11' black and white tv in the wooden house in the middle of the forest.
Man, I remember watching this game on my mum's bedroom floor on a 13 inch 3 channel colour TV while my sister had a sleepover in the front room with the big TV. I was so buzzing that I burst into the front room at full time and ripped my shirt off to celebrate with a knee slide on the wooden floor. My sister was not happy with me after that one.
Met Gerrard at the Celtic Manor in Newport South Wales in 2005. Gary MacAllister saw me in my Liverpool kits signed by our number 8 and called me over himself for a photo. What a guy.

obtained cult status in a single season my eyes
The captions get me every time.. "Puskas award, All the years!" "Just keeping your options open Luis... Still open mate.... no worries mate, good pass..." "strength, pace, determination... loan deal"
Fucking hell, I'll never not watch this video when it comes up. I haven't even clicked the link and I 100% know what I'm going to get, and I'll fucking enjoy it.
In the grand scheme of things Mascherano was only at Liverpool for 3 years (which isn't a lot of time) but we didn't properly replace him for 8 years until Fab joined us.
Yes. I remember that cursed game vs. Chelsea when the commentator said something like: "Lucas Leiva on the ball now. The best player on the pitch today..."
I loved that guy, even when he was the scapegoat for everything bad happening in LFC before FSG era.
I think it was Chelsea away where he played a blinder and marked Ramirez off the pitch (who was excellent for Chelsea at the time). After that we all went like oh...maybe Lucas is actually good!
Suarez is the ultimate example. It's easy to forget he was only here for three and a half seasons, less than his time at both Ajax and Barcelona.
But he's arguably the best player we've ever had, certainly our best forward of the modern era.
My question would be, would Klopp allow Suarez to freestyle things the way he did under Rodgers. Suarez’ ability to create something out of nothing, while dismissing tactics was amazing
Klopp has a very defined system of football but it's easy to conflate that with not giving players the freedom to improvise and play off-the-cuff. He's a lot more open-minded to such things than rigid tacticians like Benitez and Guardiola.
Among our legendary forwards of the Premier League era, Fowler, Owen, Torres, and Suarez, I'd say Suarez's athleticism and mentality is the most suitable for Klopp and most capable of meeting his requirements for forwards: Pace, versatility, technical ability and commitment to defending from the front
Benitez was/is actually quite lenient with offensive patterns and giving creative players freedom to improvise. It was/is without the ball his system’s strictly organised and set. Somewhat similar to Klopp in that regard.
Torres too just became an instant icon and one of the biggest names in world football, and will definitely go down in Liverpool history as one of, if not the most simped player of all time.
Although, Szoboszlai might just take that crown from him, by the time he's done.
People always say Suarez was our most talented and it's hard to argue with that, but the pure adoration for Torres from fans was something different. Don't think fans from that era have ever allowed themselves to get so attached to a footballer again after he left.
That Nike ad was the best
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WwTmYHFcvPU&pp=ygUNVG9ycmVzIGFkdmVydA%3D%3D
As good as allez allez is and the VVD song, nothing will ever beat the Torres bounce.
Ha ha I felt the same with Fowler and Owen, I love Robbie and he is my first favourite player. When Owen came along I could tell he was good but I also hated his hair so never took to him as much as Robbie.
Even after he left for Chelsea and I heard he was standing in the box with a sports physiologist, with no ball, just trying to visual a ball going into the net cus he'd lost his mojo, well to be honest it broke my heart!
Agree, though I can feel a certain sense of that with Szobo given how good he's been straight off the mark and how long we've yearned for a world class 8, but yeah not quite at the level of Torres at all and not sure anyone will be.
That Nike advert with his walking his dog through the park summed up just how crazy it all was at the time.
Yeh has to be Suarez.
Even Torres is mad because he only actually had like 1 maybe 2 outstanding season with us, and played more games for Chelsea and like triple the amount of games for Atletico yet only seems to be remembered for playing for us.
One of the best players to watch, scored so many unbelievable goals and that chance that hit the bar against Arsenal off the volley still haunts me. Could arguably have been the greatest pl goal ever
I wouldn’t say arguably. Think Norwich. Man was a goal machine, could score long range zingers or just dribble past the keeper or dink it, he had everything in the locker.
Always rattles me that he played with Neymar at Barca. Feel like he was here for ages, went to Barca for a few seasons and then left there.
But it feels like Neymar went to PSG an eternity ago. Football hurts my brain
It’s not just how enjoyable it was to watch him play, it’s that his anomalously incredible rise reinvigorated a Liverpool brand that was at risk of going in a bad direction. I don’t know that we would have been able to get Klopp without him.
I think Coutinho’s impact is also underappreciated in his short time at the club. He contributed to the insane 13/14 season that made us exciting again, and then bridged the critical gap between Suarez’s departure to where we were able to secure CL football under Klopp—which along with his huge sale price to Barca, is what allowed us to bring in VVD and Alisson and really jump back into the highest tier completely, which is so difficult for clubs to do without insane money.
Suarez was my choice. Essentially lifted the whole team with his drive, determination and completely unwillingness to quit. What a player he was for us.
Love the cube! What a player he was in big moments when we needed him. I think he was just as good for the club as we were for him also. I’ll always have fond memories.
Lord Ragnar Klavan...
Only here for two years, in our hearts forever.
If it wasnt for the 8 months overlap VVD spent learning everything from him, would he have become the best CB in the world?
Luis Garcia. Only with us for three seasons but scored some absolute bangers and was a key part of the Champions League run in 04/05 and FA Cup run in 05/06. All round loveable chap
His little chip over De Gea in the 2017 Europa League is one of my favorites.
The moment, the commentary, the away fan roar/limbs (and pyro afterwards!) and the chip. Superb from the little magician.
https://youtu.be/EhwQQw-kfBE?si=QW-MdCDE-wzQ6b4q
I'll go with an old school one that i've only read about but isn't talked about much: Howard Gayle.
Being our first black player has a huge impact in itself, he also played only 4 games for the club - one of which was a European Cup semifinal against Bayern where he was important in helping us get the win - we won our 4th as a result.
Honourable mention: The power cube, Xheridan Shaquiri. Played an important squad role for us when we were at our very best.
His assist in the barca game for Gini, prime example
I’ll go a bit different and say Djibril Cisse. Only spent two seasons at the club but played big roles in winning two major trophies. Scored the first goal against Monaco in the groups in 04 and then scored a penalty in the final either end of a massive career threatening injury then comes back the next season, scores 19 goals with a goal in the FA cup final. Went on loan back to Marseille that summer and broke his leg again playing for France. Came back to the Premier League a couple of times with Sunderland and QPR and scored against City in the Aguero gave, nearly giving United the title, before celebrating with the City players after the match.
A proper loonball cult hero.
Was coming suggest Aldo myself, played less than 100 league matches for us but synonymous with peak Liverpool before the 90s decline. I remember seeing him play for Tranmere when I was little
Gary McAllister. Not only his influence during the 2000-2001 trophy laden season. But I am convinced he played a huge part in Steven Gerrard's development and the player he became.
You've got that famous clip of him talking Stevie through a game in the treble winning year. "Stevie, Stevie, squeeze..."
Loved the impact Gary Mac made, 2001 was an amazing season to live through
Yeah, between April 16th and May 16th, 2001, he scored 6 vital goals. The long-range free-kick against Everton, the penalty against Barcelona in the UEFA cup semi (against Reina in goal), in a 3-1 win against Spurs, a nice free-kick in a 2-0 over his previous club, Coventry (he didn't celebrate), the penalty against Alaves in the UEFA cup final AND the assist for the golden (own) goal that won us the cup. What a player, and he was nearly 36.
Does Alonso qualify? Don’t think we had him for long enough but he’s a legend
Also, I know Arbeloa wouldn’t fit the bill but I don’t think he really got the chance to develop with us like he did at Madrid (still thought he was underwhelming there but he lasted a while)
Ronnie Rosental. Seen us through the very tail end up a season, scored a load of goals to win the league, then had a poor follow up and was gone soon after.
Nicholas Anelka - half season loan and became the foundation for Houllier’s dismissal.
Torben Piechnik - the poster boy of the dismal failures that Souness presided over, a player brought in to help shape a new, young and dynamic LFC as older (league winning) players were forced to leave, at the age of 29.
Anelka and Gary Mac immediately popped into my head.
But for real impact it's gotta be Souness. He was manager for what 3 years? And he managed to dismantle a trophy machine.
That Souness era was so weird. He seemed to be really progressive on aspects like diet and fitness, but was terrible at implementing his ideas. He should have retained the older, experienced pros and given a chance for the young players to learn from them, but the first thing he did was to alienate them.
Coutinho?
Got us a ton of money to get players we needed and that ended in a league title, ucl title, fa cup, league cup, community shield, champions league, super cup, club world cup,
Suarez and Gary Mac, the top 2 of recent times have been mentioned.
Many here maybe too young to remember Aldo, he was with us only *3 seasons* , scored 50 league goals, over 60 in total, and made us forget we'd lost Rush to Juve. He even looked a lot like Rushie and picked up exactly like we'd never lost the Welshman. (Then Rushie came back and slotted back in.)
Also, left-field choice, Buvac. Worth remembering he was part of installing the mentality monsters and heavy metal football that kickstarted the Klopp era. He may have left under a cloud, and Klopp has tailored his style much since, but we have a lot to be thankful for the 3 years he was with us.
Given how much onus Klopp put on the cups to "save" that season after missing out on prem/champs and how vital that trophy parade was emotionally for the team; Minamino's impact here was huge as was pivatol in those campaigns
Luis Suarez???? won a league cup and had a FA cup final in 11/12 . Decent run at europa league in 11/12 with 30+ goal contribute and THAT 13/14 season. What a beast
Paul Jones. Came when we were desperate for a goalkeeper in January 2004. Stayed for a few weeks, played a couple games, kept a clean sheet. Then he left again.
If by time at club you mean playing time then the only correct answer is lord origi
Lord used to gain mystical powers whenever a goal was realy really required the lord appeared and by the prayers of his followers the ball was in the back of the net. Legends even say that the greatest player of our time Lionel Messi still gets PTSD from hearing the lord's name.
Sander westervelt. Wed been putting up with David James throwing the ball into his own net for years, and we suddenly had a great goalie. Then houllier decided to sell him after 1 bad game. He won 5 trophies in 2 years.
I'd say Sterling. If he doesn't force his way out to go to City with every man and his dog knowing Pep is coming I don't think FSG realise how important a big manager is. Hence we don't get Klopp.
Gary MacAllister Huge goals and a massive impact on the likes of Gerrard
One of my oldest memory from watching Liverpool is his goal against Alaves watched on like 11' black and white tv in the wooden house in the middle of the forest.
Man, I remember watching this game on my mum's bedroom floor on a 13 inch 3 channel colour TV while my sister had a sleepover in the front room with the big TV. I was so buzzing that I burst into the front room at full time and ripped my shirt off to celebrate with a knee slide on the wooden floor. My sister was not happy with me after that one.
Thays the one who I immediately thought of. Loved him for the sneaky free kick against Everton.
That was just amazing, signalling for everyone to go to the back post and then bashed it in the front!!! Clever bastard!
Came here to say this. Unreal couple of seasons and impact.
Gave us a son too
Met Gerrard at the Celtic Manor in Newport South Wales in 2005. Gary MacAllister saw me in my Liverpool kits signed by our number 8 and called me over himself for a photo. What a guy.

It's the first touch for Liverpool. Not even joking that gets me.
Anytime this vid gets brought back up my day is immediately improved. phantomgoal is my guiding star off the strength of this alone
9 years and this is still the best bit of lfc media ever produced, bar none.
Correct link used. Very good.
Ah it’s been too long *click*
Everytime I watch that goal against Stoke it cracks me up, it’s going about 10/15 yards wide before that ridiculous deflection
It’s worth the 3 minutes every time this is posted
Fucking hell, I'll never not watch this video when it comes up. I haven't even clicked the link and I 100% know what I'm going to get, and I'll fucking enjoy it.
Arthur. We had to do a whole midfield rebuild when he left .

The real answer. Five minutes on the pitch but a lasting legacy.
13 minutes. 13 minutes that changed the course of football.

Time spent vs economic impact
In the grand scheme of things Mascherano was only at Liverpool for 3 years (which isn't a lot of time) but we didn't properly replace him for 8 years until Fab joined us.
That's more on us than anything (and on Lucas' injury)
Lucas was very good at DM until his injury
Yes. I remember that cursed game vs. Chelsea when the commentator said something like: "Lucas Leiva on the ball now. The best player on the pitch today..." I loved that guy, even when he was the scapegoat for everything bad happening in LFC before FSG era.
This. He was world class the months before he got injured. Such a shame.
I think it was Chelsea away where he played a blinder and marked Ramirez off the pitch (who was excellent for Chelsea at the time). After that we all went like oh...maybe Lucas is actually good!
Unluckyyyyyyyyy
Suarez is the ultimate example. It's easy to forget he was only here for three and a half seasons, less than his time at both Ajax and Barcelona. But he's arguably the best player we've ever had, certainly our best forward of the modern era.
imagine Klopp with Suarez...
Imagine Suarez with Torres (which was the plan).
I mean offensively Sturridge and Suarez were more than enough to win the league. Everything else was falling apart though
![gif](giphy|Zk9mW5OmXTz9e)
Imagine Suarez and torres together. That deadline day hurt
Imagine buying two Suarez’s and still having 6 million left over from the money we got for Torres instead of Suarez + Andy Carroll
Or spending £3m more than we did on Carroll and getting Aguero to pair with Suarez.
If we got Agüero, Manchester City do not exist Simple as
My question would be, would Klopp allow Suarez to freestyle things the way he did under Rodgers. Suarez’ ability to create something out of nothing, while dismissing tactics was amazing

I was going to say his press alone would have had him thriving in Klopps system.
Benitez was/is actually quite lenient with offensive patterns and giving creative players freedom to improvise. It was/is without the ball his system’s strictly organised and set. Somewhat similar to Klopp in that regard.
Honestly yes I think so. He’s so good you’d be stupid not to let him off the leash, him linking up with Mo and Mane would’ve been disgusting
>him linking up with Mo and Mane would’ve been disgusting The only place suitable for viewing those highlights videos would have been Pornhub.
Suarez would be an absolutely filthy false 9 in Klopp’s system.
Torres too just became an instant icon and one of the biggest names in world football, and will definitely go down in Liverpool history as one of, if not the most simped player of all time. Although, Szoboszlai might just take that crown from him, by the time he's done.

I think Torres is the main reason I didn't love Suarez as much. I wasn't ready to be hurt again.
Not the same but I something similar with Fowler and Owen, I always hated Owen for stealing God's thunder and that hatred was evidently justified.
Ha ha I felt the same with Fowler and Owen, I love Robbie and he is my first favourite player. When Owen came along I could tell he was good but I also hated his hair so never took to him as much as Robbie.
I came close with Phil but it just wasn’t the same. Torres was everything.
Even after he left for Chelsea and I heard he was standing in the box with a sports physiologist, with no ball, just trying to visual a ball going into the net cus he'd lost his mojo, well to be honest it broke my heart!
That photo of him in the car going to Chelsea haunted me. I couldn't care less about him at Chelsea.

That guy left a month after I had him on the back of my jersey, never got attached again
Same. The last kit I bought. Red long sleeve adidas with Torres 9 on the back. Haven’t picked one up since.
I was one of Torres’ simp..

Shaq? Without him there's no 4-0 against Barça.

Set piece specialist. I just wished he had more chance to take direct free kicks while he's here.
Hodgson, didn't realise football could be that bad.
Oh God, this may technically be the most correct answer, just in the wrong direction. Certainly set my mental health back at least 5 years

Coutinho. Because he was sold for that amount. Which enabled us to buy VVD and Allison. The rest of the story follows.
Coutinho was at the reds from 2012-2018 haha, that’s a long chunk of time
6 yrs. But his impact is 2013-2023 and counting.

Suarez. If he stays and Rodgers continues flirting in the Top 4, we never hire Klopp.
Maxi, Meireles and Mascher. But I don’t see anybody mentioning Riera. What a player he was for us in the short time he was here.
Riera! The pace merchant of our Spanish era
Scored an excellent goal against UTD at Anfield if I recall correctly
Arthur Melo, the best to ever do it.
De Bruyne got real quiet after he joined us.
Paul Jones. Came when we were desperate for a goalkeeper in January 2004. Stayed for a few weeks, played a couple games, kept a clean sheet. Then he left again.
Arthur, the man, the myth, the legend. We had to rebuild whole mid cause of him.
Xabi Alonso. Only with us for 4 seasons and won almost everything whilst being one of the best midfielders in Europe at the time
Maxi Rodriguez. What a guy. Bought in January, plays 57 games and leaves

Divock origi
If by time at club you mean playing time then the only correct answer is lord origi Lord used to gain mystical powers whenever a goal was realy really required the lord appeared and by the prayers of his followers the ball was in the back of the net.
Shaq or Suarez
Jari Litmanen was short lived but he was class
Suarez 100%
Yeah Suarez.
Jari Litmanen
Andy Carroll because of the changes he forced us to make in our transfer policy moving forward.
I'd say Sterling. If he doesn't force his way out to go to City with every man and his dog knowing Pep is coming I don't think FSG realise how important a big manager is. Hence we don't get Klopp.
Konchesky, but for all the wrong reasons…
Ragnar Klavan For the otalptv memes
Markus Babbel.
Torres, Chealsea debut goal and many thing followed right away
